Warpmind -- I thought you smarter than to smoke cigars. As for orcs and elves, I would think in the tolkein universe that they would breed. Not that it would be very pretty.. Orcs being mutated elves, I would guess that it wouldnt take a whole lot of generations for it to breed out, BUT look at the africanized honeybees... Those traits survive even 10 generations of breeding with normal honeybees. Oh and one other thing on the cigar -- tobacco was actually considered in several native american myths to be the thumb of their gods. It was not to be used the way the europeans have done.

I may be wrong, but I seem to recall that some, if not all, LAN routers work like that; giving the individual machines their own profile, yet providing them the same IP for all internet purposes. I've reported the IP, and each of the previous IPs the spammer is using to AOL, letting them know about the AOL IDs the person is using. Whether or not the person really is on AOL or not, I am sure they and their legal department can determine. The IP and the time of each post that had a "death threat" overtone has been reported. Much as I'd like to see the spam removed, we may want to leave it so the legal authorities can check it and pursue the necessary steps of taking this person's internet account away from them.

Had my game last night. They knowingly accepted a job offer from one of the enemy conspiracy, went down into the dungeon to wipe out a tribe of orcs who'd established squatter's rights in a ruined elven keep. The battle was moderately horrific; the main swordsman went down three seperate times (once critically kicked in the head by a scary she-orc), the archer attempted an acrobatic leap to the top of a crate which worked fine until he crashed through the flimsy wood and was knee-deep in rotting cabbages, the thief with low-pain-threshold sprained her shoulder and sat down crying. But in the end, they killed the orcs, only to find that the enemy conspiracy agent closed the door and sealed them in the dungeon. That's where we ended, with them trapped, whee!

I will be doing a reading and a talk at the Everett Library this afternoon. They decided for some reason (maybe because I'm talking about fantasy fiction and gaming) to promote it toward teens, so it appeared listed in the "Kid Stuff" section of the local paper. Well, maybe all the high school gamer geeks will show up ... who weren't even born when I started gaming (that anniversary's coming up in a couple weeks, 21 years of RPGs, no wonder I'm depressed, LOL).

BS that we answer to the fandom???? Do you know what I got in my mailbox the other day? I got a fan, chewing my ear off because I made a typo. A TYPO. I was up late at night typing out the update so it could be sent off on time, (So I wouldn't get emails saying, "where is the update?" Which btw, isn't my job..) and accidently typed a 3 instead of a 2, so I got scolded in a letter by a fan, who isn't even GOING to the convention.

We do have to answer to the fandom. I spend so much time making sure that everyone is seen to and everything. And if something goes wrong, guess who is the instant target. No, might not matter that it isn't my fault but a staff member, but *I* get tagged for it.

If it costs a little extra..people bitch. If things don't go well right off, people bitch. And guess what? *I* don't chew them out. Even if I wanted to chew them out..I CAN'T. Because once a con chair stands up for their rights as a human being..we get shot down. :( We get yelled out, we are accused of jumping on people like a pack of wild dogs. I answer EVERY question, ASAP. And when I can't answer it, I try to find people who can...but sometimes that's still not good enough. I am the fandom's 'bitch'. I am the fandom's lackey.

But I made this choice. I decided to step up on stage and let the tomatoes and other assorted things be flung at me. My staff and I made this choice. I will see my job through to the end, good or bad. But Josh there is nothing you can say, that will make me think that I do not have to answer to this fandom. Because I do. And I knew that when I took this job and I still try everything I can to make a majority of the people who attend happy for this convention. I always ask for CONSTRUCTIVE critism (why do you think I entertained your question about the badges?), because I really want to make this a better convention, and everyone to have as much fun as I have had going to them over the past several years.

A lot of people think of this as the 'social event of the year', and if something goes bad..I will hear *MY* name talked about from now until when people decide to move on and start hounding the next gathering staff (whoever they may be they have my 100% support and best wishes). I have nightmares once a week about something going wrong. Every morning I wake up thinking "What needs to get done today?"

And you know what the scariest part is? I know, for a fact, that even with all this hard work, every hour I put into this convention for you and the rest of the fandom when I could be doing something else, there's going to be something someone will bitch about. There always is. You can't make everyone happy, but everyone can make you feel like absolute trash. "Yeah, she thought she could run the convention, what WAS she thinking!" I don't know what yet, but I can put money down there will be something..and people will talk about it for several months after the convention. "Oh, they should have known better." "Why couldn't they have made it cheaper."

I *LISTEN* to these things...I have turned a lot of cheeks..I'm not trying to bitch at you Josh, because I knew what I was getting into with this job.

I'm not asking for anyone to be 'happy' with what I'm doing, or not to bitch if something is wrong, but please, do it constructively. I like getting imput, good or bad. Because I honestly can't put on a convention without hearing everyone's imput. It's important to me to hear you.
But I answer to this fandom. Not to myself, or anyone else famous or otherwise. I answer to each and everyone of you.

(And I want to sincerely publicly apologize to Patrick again for being a victim of me not sleeping, worrying about the Gathering, and anything else. *HUGS* Love ya Patrick. :( I'm sorry.I always appreciate your help and friendship.)

I've reported 152.163.207.83, who yesterday was 64.12.106.48 to AOL -- AOL has floating IP numbers so they tend to change. But I also reported the IDs the person is posting under. I'm sure they can sort things out and see if this person is really an AOL member, or only pretending to be.

ISPs take a dim view when people claim to be AOL memberrs and then start spamming sites with references to "killing" people.

Did homework, "worked", and downloaded programs from other people today. I got cool goodies too: Quicken, Vectorworks Architect, Mathematica, Maple, and the mysterious Soundjam Carbon beta that never got released because Soundjam got bought by Apple.

I went to a midnight showing of "Better Off Dead" starring John Cusack. Great 80's teen movie, absolutely hilarious. The crowd looked like they used to be the rocky crowd, but since rocky moved off campus they're stuck doing anything else at Midnight.
