Jan -- <<Yes, I'm very much aware of the situation in Africa concerning HIV and such. However, do you really think that once it airs in Africa that it won't be introduced here in America shortly thereafter? They are already discussing the probability of this.>>

If they do, I can only applaud the people who can get it through our overly anal S & P departments. Children can only benefit from having a friendly and comforting role model of a "muppet child" who has to deal with real life issues of a terminal illness. For those who are themselves ill of aids or other things that will probably kill them before they reach adulthood, and for those who will be the friends and neighbors and fellow school mates of other children who have terminal conditions.

There is protecting kids, and then there is BLINDING them. For those who would "sanitize" children programming so that children don't see examples of real life things like disease or handicapped people, they are only setting up kids to be unfamiliar and uncomfortable with ill and handicapped people. Frankly, that's a mindset that sickens me far more than a child seeing a puppet person who is an example of child who has an illness or disability, yet is still a friendly and non-scary person that the child can relate to.

Kudos to Seseme Street for dealing with real life and making children comfortable and informed about real life issues. Seseme Street has always stood for education, and breaking down barriers of prejudice with knowledge and familiarity. Rather have children watch that than sanitized pap that has been so edited for content that it is the equivalent of "empty calories"/junk food TV.

Just my two cents

Imzadi> Woohoo.
<<No, that's me>>: You aren't hairy enough.
<<at 8AM I'll believe anything. Well, almost anything>>: Me being the sexiest man on earth would fall into the second category, I take it?
<<Wasn't I talking to Spacebabie?>>: Yes, but the same pretty much applies to me.
<<You get that even though you're fully clothed, don't you?>>: They claimed it was worse.
<<No way. 9.81 and 3e8, usually>>: But only because I taught you.
<<Master flame baiter?>>: Nah, too obvious.
<<That and the stock market>>: But those conversations are a bit dry.
<<Lucky. I've only got 1>>: Evil laugh.
<<Then shut the !@#$ up!>>: Nah, we want more people in here.
<<We'll have to play some time. After I learn the game>>: Well, I've still got a bunch of stuff to get through before I install. Maybe it'll be moved up if my roomies also get it. Though you'd still whoop me.
<<Such things mean nothing to me>>: Oh, my world is collapsed. Life has no meaning. No, wait, there's still 42.
<<Private schools tend to waste tuition on things like athletics>>: Our teams were pretty small.
<<apple.com/switch>>: "My name is Raven, and I'm an elitist !@#$%^&"

Hey Wilek, what kind of demon can I summon from a kitney bean shaped outline on the ground? We're going to be making a garden, and we've got the border painted.

Welcome Zach.

Jan > You did read the article and understand that this new muppet is only joining the cast of "Takalani Sesame" in South Africa, and not the U.S. version of "Sesame Street", right? I don't mean to seem rude or anything... but in this case your comments seem to be betraying a strong cultural bias. For many, many children in Africa, HIV is a "scary, adult, depressing topic" that they already know about all too well. With one in nine of the population HIV positive (4.7 million people), South Africa has the highest incidence of HIV of any country in the world. And many of those are children who were BORN with the virus. So I don't see that there's anything inherently wrong or evil with introducing a character into a South African childrens show to help educate South African children about something they already deal with as a fact of everyday life. If nothing else, perhaps the new muppet might help the children separate the facts from the myths and thereby make things a little less scary.

SJ > Thank you once again for adding that wonderfully appropriate content. Just another Saturday night in the family-friendly TGS comment room. :: sighs ::

<<HIV-positive Muppet character to be introduced in South Afrcan version of "Sesame Street" >>

Don't believe the liberal propaganda.

The real muppet virus can be traced back to ONE source.

You didn't really think Bert & Ernie were just "roommates" did you?

"You Stink! I hope you slip in a puddle of AIDS & crack your skull open!"

"Down to my target weight.
Carcoma popped out all over my face
I lost 3 teeth & all of my friends
looks like this time I'm nearing the end
Full Blown AIDS...

No need to lie, no reason to fib
when you're flat on your back counting all of your ribs.
I went to give blood they just showed me the door...
I stoop up to leave and I fell on the floor
Full Blown Aids

Damn that whore...
Damn that whore...
I said, damn that whore!
Damn that whore!

Well, now I've got AIDS, I don't feel so good.
So I'm gonna go out and share it with my neighborhood.
Bartender, waitress, here's your tip.
That ain't acne above my lip.

Oh, you have to leave? That's okay.
I've got time to kill. Maybe....2 or 3 days.

My customer in the restaurant? Her tips blew.
So that ain't half-n-half in your stew.

Leo> yeah, I heard about the HIV positive Muppet... I have a problem with that. I don't think it's necessary to put that in a children's program. We are confronting them with these hard, cold realities of life when they're not prepared for it. And you can bet that the truth of HIV is not part of this presentation. How you get it and what happens if you do, will not be a part of this.

Well, if Sesame Street thinks that three to seven-year-old kids need to be taught about scary, adult, depressing topics like HIV, why stop with an HIV-positive character?
You know, if you really want to teach kids about life, just give Kermit the Frog the clap, and let him and Miss Piggy deal with it and show how it is to be an adult out there engaging in Clintonitis, instead of HIV. Or give other Muppet characters such as a pedophile or a child who suffers from depression.
There was a minor discussion earlier about children not being *forced* to face the reality of the adult world and letting them be innocent and _children_ while it's possible.
I think this has gone over the line in introducing children to adult issues and robbing the kids of their innocense.

Josh> yes.. sometimes I question your political party affliation. ;p

Christine > Your pin went out in yesterday's mail.

Josh > I don't doubt we have different views on what is scary. However, I think it's preferable that as long as children aren't expected to join the workforce then they be allowed to keep to "childish things" and get exposed to more mature concepts gradually.

Let's see... not much happening lately...

Oh yeah...

We closed.

Yep. The seller tried to postpone by saying she was having contractions (at 6 months), we didn't find out how much money we were supposed to bring there until an hour and a half before the meeting, but still, that dosn't negate the important thing:

*WE*
*CLOSED!*

The house is OURS! YOU HEAR ME?!?! *OURS!*

...

Now the fun of actually moving in begins.
More whenever.

I wear white in here because I didn't at my wedding ; )

The sky looks ominous this morning. Maybe thunderstorms. I hope so. Had e-mail from my sister-in-law the other day and the temperature there was literally twice what it was here -- we had a 56-and-rainy day, they had 112. 112! Yow! How in the world did I survive 18 years living in that hellhole?

If the post is prompt, the family intervention letter might arrive today. I'll be braced for the phone call and gnawing Tums all day long. Joy.

Alright, I decided I have time for a post tonight. Went to a restaurant after work to hang with the interns and management trainees. That was a lot of fun, but it sucks that I couldn't have anything to drink. I hate being the only one who isn't drinking, even if I'm just nursing a beer.

I got paid yesterday! Woohoo for direct deposit!

Time to catch up. Sorta.

Spacebabie: <<I did pick up a cute and fluffy Stitch stuffed animal>>: I want one of those. I rarely want plushies, but in this case I do. <<When the frell is that coming out anyways?>>: She wouldn't know, she doesn't work on it anymore. <<they keep all the pretty lesbians there and send the ugly ones to Berkley and Greg’s bookstore?>>: No, just hot chicks in general. Contrary to popular opinion, not everyone at Berkeley is gay. Or even bi. <<You are nable to express yourself without using minor words now can you?>>: No, I use lots of big words. But they're usually engineering jargon. <<Yes I need to get my own place, but how can I get there with out a car>>: Oh come on, this should be a no-brainer even for a humanities major like you: get someone else to drive you. Maybe hire a moving truck? <<Wow that actually made sense>>: Too bad I phrased it incorrectly. <<I'm freaked>>: Yes, growing an inch is a great reason to freak. <<Wich Greg?>>: X. <<your big and hairy. Do you also have an admantium skeleton and have self healing abilities?>>: No, that's me. <<My second priority when I come into some money is to get a scanner that will work for a Windows XP>>: Oh, just switch to mac and get it over with.

Leo: <<I'm sort of introducing the contractor to CAD programs like "Chief Architect 8" and "3D Home." He still draws by hand but wants to start learning the software>>: And you're paying for the privilege, aren't you? <<I'm also honing my Photoshop skills by creating "virtual photos" of what the kitchen would look like with different cabinets and countertops>>: That's really cool! <<could you please, pretty please>>: Just teach your mom to do it herself. Or hell, write a script or whatever its called to do it and she can just run that. <<I'm sure she'd ask if I didn't still live here>>: The nice thing about not living at home is I never get called for tech support. <<Nooo comment>>: Dude, watching a video game on a $7000 system is awesome. <,most grad schools now give their own "specialized" enterance exams>>: That all depends on where you want to go and what you want to study. <<I remember the "Duke Nukem" series had lines from "Army of Darkness">>: You mean because Bruce Campbell did the voice-overs for the game? <<that's one movie that should be a direct to video release like those stupid dog movies>>: Agreed. <<Why not just use "GRE for Dummies"?>>: Two reasons: a) my GRE score is already quite high, so that book isn't targeted at me and thus won't be as effective, and b) my flaws are in very particular areas. Besides, tutoring is much more effective at motivating me to actually DO the work. <<I don't know if I can stare at my monitor that long>>: I'm sure I'll have to take several breaks. <<Have you thought about splitting it up?>>: I'm sure he hasn't, but that's a good idea. Personally I don't think a single story should exceed 30-40 pages.

Todd: <<it caused a real to-do when it was proposed>>: Does that mean we'll never see gay or lesbian couples in TGS? Or people with HIV? Cuz that never would have flown with the show. <<since apparently purging the system doesn't work>>: Reformat the drive. Then sell it and buy a mac. <<I don't think that I can afford to buy a new computer>>: Apple has great financing. <<how to get rid of this virus, once and for all>>: Start by not using outlook for mail.

Christine: <<Other Gang of Idiots>>: As opposed to the one you're in? ;-)

Gside: <<use of sleep deprivation among brainwashing techniques>>: Hell, at 8AM I'll believe anything. Well, almost anything. <<Don't need one at school, don't get out much at home, Jersey insurance is pretty bad>>: Wasn't I talking to Spacebabie? <<Just needed some updated DLLs to recognize my brand>>: Ugh. DLL-hell. No thanks. I'll stick to my kernel extensions and that's it. <<The floppy>>: What's a floppy? <<psychcs were complaining about public indecency>>: You get that even though you're fully clothed, don't you? <<oy do you need it. I mean, 9.4=g? 2e8=c?>>: No way. 9.81 and 3e8, usually. <<But you do know about the Life commercial?>>: I do now. <<Desire to be used?>>: I don't think so. By that term you could count your sock as a partner. Hell, I hear many girls say that they prefer their vibrators to most men they've been with. <<Flamebaiter>>: Master flame baiter? <<Current lives are just about the only thing constantly changing to provide enough fodder for a lively forum>>: That and the stock market. <<I've gotten Mail Undeliverable autoreplies for messages I never sent to people I don't know>>: Sounds like an episode of the twilight zone: "The email is coming from *INSIDE* the house! Get out now!" <<I only have 7 inches on you instead of 8>>: Lucky. I've only got 1. <<Please note the frequency of others' posts>>: Then shut the !@#$ up! <<Should be getting medieval soon with NWN and WCIII>>: We'll have to play some time. After I learn the game. <<females tend to exist in quantum>>: Hey, if you could find the right half, you'd be in business. <<You getting naughty again>>: Or just bad at spelling. <<Like the Hello Kitty "shoulder massager.">>: Which is oddly phallic shaped ;-) <<Your purity shines through your words>>: Brownnoser. <<Come bask in my manliness>>: I don't think anyone would want to bask in *anything* that has to do with an ECE. <<Hire a giggilo?>>: She can't afford me. And I'm what she really wants, apparently. <<If you're talking about something belonging to someone else, it's your. If you're making a statement about someone else contracting you and are it's you're>>: One would think a humanities major would know such a thing. <<And after all we shared.>>; Such things mean nothing to me. <<Seen the latest Penny Arcade?>>: Yup. <<then, he does work at a private school>>: Even at private schools, a lot of teachers still don't make much. Private schools tend to waste tuition on things like athletics.

Lain: <<might have time to write a real post sometime this.. century? maybe?>>: I feel your pain. I'm swamped as well.

Jan: <<Since you were the one who mentioned the "brainwashing" then it's funny>>: Oh, sure, but when *I* do it I get an harranging for not being a good upstanding republican. <<I could beat you severely, throw rocks at you, shoot you, sic my dog on you>>: remind me not to visit you. <<I assure you that I'm a pitbull when it comes to my children>>: Doesn't surprise me ;-) <<welcome to the real world of employment>>: Wow. I was expecting. "Sheesh. Cry me a frikkin' river." ;-) <<you'll actually be glad when school starts so that you can get some rest>>: Ironic. After 6 weeks of work, I'm looking FORWARD to 8AM classes. <<My kids have told me of conversations I held with them after I returned home - but I don't remember any of it.>>: Good, they can hit you up for money ;-) <<$150 a year. whoooppeee>>: What kind of a bonus is that!? <<

Kathy: <<children do need some time of innocence other wise they become worldly beyond their years and scary>>: All depends on how you define innocence. How do you define it? My opinion is different from yours, I'd wager.

FS: <<I get viruses when I am on IE>>: Why do you use IE? You're supposed to be a computer geek. <<EVERYONE should get an anti-virus>>: I would...but the odds of Norton f*cking up my computer are 100%, whereas the odds of a virus f*cking up my machine are roughly 0%.

Kai: <<I really hope this OSX thing gets a good chunk of 3rd party support>>: You're waiting for something in particular? <<who's bandwidth is getting chewed assuming that you run the banner in its own frame>>: Banners? Omniweb has a nifty feature that doesn't load images from any servers but the one you're at. <<What sorts of curiculum changes would help improve the quality of public schooling>>: How about stuff about the ways and laws of the city/state in which the school is based? I shouldn't know high-school aged kids who don't know that parking tickets are based on chalk-marks on tires. <<strings of explicatives aren't acceptable in most public settings>>: You obviously haven't been to meeting of Apple executives 8-) <<I'd cut down to elective status on the more specialized courses like Current Events, non-Western civ, Trigonometry, Calculus, and advanced Literature>>: Current Events CANNOT be optional. That would lead to a generation of kids who have no idea what's going on in the world around them. Non-western civ is also important. Its how we learn about ourselves. <<well, if I ruled the world we'd all be in deep trouble, I'm sure>>: Which is why I'm taking over.

DPH: <<What would have happenned to Goliath's clan if the Viking Massacre hadn't occurred at Castle Wyrvn?>>: By now, they'd probably be dead 8-) <<I thought you had to open the message in order to get infected>>: Many outlook virii will run automatically, without you doing anything. <<f the modern the release of Windows, the easier it is for the operating system to crash>>: apple.com/switch.

Zath: <<I hadn't known that it was possible for anyone to reach adulthood (legal adulthood if not mental adulthood) and still be so naïve>>: Now imagine graduating with 72 people like that, and you have my high school class.

Crzy: <<Do they not teach this anymore?>>: Nope. You were in 7th grade a LONG time ago. Schools suck now.

IX9: <<Really? Like what?>>: Wireless networking and firewire are two, but also things like true plug-and-play, built in CD-burning. Easy networking. <<Thank you for the link dude i'll be sure to check it out>>: What'd you think? I know the website can't fully explain the coolness of Jaguar. I saw a demo at WWDC in early may, and my jaw dropped. <<i'm hope it will last me until i bye a G4 or better.>>: It will. Jaguar will only improve speeds. <<Really how bad are you?>>: Bad enough to be doing this on a friday night. <<I got you beat by dating three>>: No, I just said more than two girls I've dated are "the most twisted girl on the planet". <<another year to dabble with my Mac and give it the loving care it needs>>: It shouldn't need any. It should be able to run fine for months on end.

Stephanie: <<when I found out that there is an e-mail virus going around, the first thing I did was to e-mail someone>>: And send them annoying unwanted email about a virus going around through email? Isn't spam enough of a virus? <<I must be the exception to that rule>>: Notice the qualifying "probably". I was a virgin for much of the time I went to RHPS as well.

Damn, that took a while.

They've really got my balls in a vice grip.

*Whistles and 12 Coyote Robots fly in to destroy DC thoroughly.*

That's for all the problems I have been having lately with being online. I am beginning to wonder if the modern the release of Windows, the easier it is for the operating system to crash. I'm serious. These past weeks I have had more problems with some program crashing that last year.

For all of you wondering about why the current episode hasn't been updated, well, maybe that's because things realy are slow. Rest assured, when more stories from Timedancer season 4 reach final version, the page will be updated. Meanwhile, I'll give you a hint about what the message will be on the current episode page the last time it is updated before an exact date is set for when it will premiere. That message will be "All Timedancer season 4 stories are in edits. [Insert Number] of timedancer season 4 stories are in final version."

Jan - <The one thing that I would like to point out though.... teachers are NOT paid 12 months while only working 9-10 months. They are paid for the actual months worked and have an option of spreading that amount out over the actual working months or into 12 months.> As I recall, there are tax advantages to having the payments spread out over the 12 months, namely less money is taken out of each pay check for taxes.

IX9 - happy birthday

Gside - <the problem is they don't have to be active in the fandom.> I know. It's maddening to know that I can't list my email address without getting spammed and others do the same thing so private communication is difficult.

Tribun - Thanks. Sheesh. This pretty close to my imagined worse case scenario - somebody buys a list of email addresses just so they can send a new virus to everybody on the list.

*A temporal wave passes through the CR* Hmm. I think I know what caused that temporal wave, but I want to be sure before saying anything.

Yesterday was my turn to finally see "Lilo." After seing the trailers for the two upcoming Disney releases, my opinion of Disney went down several notches. "Treasure Planet" doesn't bother me as much as "Country Bears" (now that's one movie that should be a direct to video release like those stupid dog movies) Do any of you living in Texas rember a chain of pizza restaruants called "Showbiz Pizztime Theatre?" (I think Chuckie Cheeze bought them out)
They had a litte theatre with an animatronic country band and the lead singer was a bear named "Billy-Bob" I started having flashbacks of elementary school birthday parties when I saw that trailer. AAAAAGGGGGH!

Replies:

Josh:<<I have 8 hours of classes for GRE>> Why not just use "GRE for Dummies"? :-D

Spacebabie:<<That’s a movie? I remember reading the book>> Iv'e read the book also, and yes they made a movie of it in the 70's. It's directed by Robert Wise and it is very faithful to the book (unlike Jurassic Park or Rising Sun.) There are only a few time cuts, and they made one of the four scientists a female for PC reasons. I touught it was a pretty good movie though it seemed a bit slow. (I'm sure someone out there in Hollywood has thought of making an "updated version" alla Planet of the Apes")<<My second priority when I come into some money is to get a scanner that will work for a Windows XP>>Hmm, strange. I have an HP-4p that's 6 yrs old and it works just fine on Windows XP. What kind of scanner is "Gourry?"

IX9> geesh, what's your problem? I'm not jumping on you, but I really don't appreciate your innuendos that you have been making concerning Anna and myself.
I do believe that I know Anna FAR more better than you do and I know what she would mind or not mind in what I say in public about her. These are my friends here and not hers. She doesn't read this room anyway... even if she did, I don't care. She doesn't need a watchdog - I assure you that I'm a pitbull when it comes to my children.
I haven't said anything too personal about her or Michael. Maybe there's a reason she hasn't told you?? I don't know - but don't fuss at me because I mentioned that she is buying a house in here and it's something that she hasn't told you yet. My friends here are aware of the past that she and I have had and when I say that she is buying a house, it's a victory for both of us. I will share some of my victories here.

Josh> welcome to the real world of employment *chuckles*
Seriously though, it sounds like you have a very busy schedule and I'll bet you'll actually be glad when school starts so that you can get some rest! :D

Wilek> that's soooo sick, dude! *giggles* Now I know why I love ya!

Spacebabie> You're 5'9"?? gawsh, you would tower over me! then again, a lot of dwarfs would tower over me... O_o ;)
Yeah, Anna's a piglet when it comes to housekeeping skills. I'm a clutterer myself, but at least I will clean once a week so that I can start the clutter all over the next day ;) At least in her own house, I don't have to look it on a daily basis. hehe

I had my stomach scope thingy done yesterday - that's an experience I will NOT have again. I have no idea of what they found out - gotta' love those valium cocktails! I do remember them saying something about inflammation to the stomach lining and something about it being a precursor to stomach cancer. They drew more blood for additional testing. My kids have told me of conversations I held with them after I returned home - but I don't remember any of it. I ended up sleeping a total of 8 hours after returning home during the day and then slept last night.
I wonder if I can get the valium cocktail in a "to-go" container... ;)

GSide> funny joke *L* Of course, it's not so funny if you're a teacher.. ;) The one thing that I would like to point out though.... teachers are NOT paid 12 months while only working 9-10 months. They are paid for the actual months worked and have an option of spreading that amount out over the actual working months or into 12 months. They receive a bonus after so many years of employment - starting bonus for us was around $150 a year. whoooppeee *twirls finger* Each school district is different, though.

Still no luck in finding Gargoyle pins :(

Long and busy day - I'm going to go rest now. We have 41 inmates right now and we're comfortable with around 27. We have some really violent men there too. Lucky me... I'm working in the jail tomorrow. "Lock Down" will be my motto.

You can't imagine how much I have on my plate. In addition to 40 hours of work every week, I have 8 hours of classes for GRE and LSAT followed by homework. Lots of homework. This week I have hundreds of practice questions to work through, on top of learning a bunch of vocab words, etc. It's like school. It keeps me way too busy to post as frequently as I usually do. I also have to get my apartment ready for my friend who's coming to stay with me for a while.

Gside: Sorry. Well, not really. Just do what I do and look for more 8-)

After the virus scare yesterday, I know my computer is virus free, at least according to McAfee. I even updated the list of patterns to look for and rechecked my computer and still came out virus free. I also know why those forged emails weren't delivered: they were too big. (42k and 142k message, no attachement).

I'd look to know who in the fandom has an address book that contains my email address, Winterwolf's, Aaron Wheeler's and Todd's. That's the person who is really infected. Since every email account I use is web-based (except for the one to connect to the internet, but no emails are sent from there) and I have no address book, I must be a little more immune.

Wilek - Is there anything wierd on sell anywhere on the 'net that you aren't looking for?

Tribun - You might be the explanation for why one email that had my email address listed in the from field went to somebody in Germany. Can you let us know of anyone in the fandom who was in your email address book while you were infected?

Gside - <I prefer going in order from ! for my unprintables. > if anyone can make sense of those unprintables, let me know. They do a job that we give to other children. So let's pay them a babysitter's wage. That's what, $5/hr on the low end? And they only go for 3/4 of the year, so let's only pay them for that. Wait, they have to deal with classes of 30 or so kids, so let's be nice and multiply that by the hourly wage. Ignoring time spent grading, correcting tests, and other after hours tasks, that's a yearly salary of
~$234,000. Nevermind.> Good joke.

Coyote - <The "pwrlevels" mail might be coming from more than one person, though, because I have it from three seperate senders. Both of them had hidden file attachments on them.> Wait a minute: I thought you had to open the message in order to get infected.

IX9> of course I'll miss Anna when she leaves the house (again).... but I won't miss the clutter, the left over food products in her room, the increased trash left in the living room and kitchen, etc. Besides, there's a difference between a daughter leaving the nest and a son leaving (in a mom's POV) I will always "have" my daughter - my son will eventually find someone to marry and will become more of a part of his wife's family, etc. There's an old poem that says,
A daughter is a daughter until her dying day
A son is a son until he marries away.
It's reversed when a daughter marries or leaves - the dad has a bit more difficult time dealing with it than the mom does.
I have already experienced Anna leaving - even though it was under the worst of circumstances. Michael has never left home. Anna will be moving a couple of miles away - Michael will be gone for the rest of his life now. He won't be moving a couple of miles away - he might be a couple of countries away.

Because of his Eagle Scout award, he will leave Basic at the rank of an E3. :)
I have very mixed feelings about this. While I'm extremely proud of his decision and proud of him, the "mom" side of me is dealing with the fear of him increasing his chances of being killed or hurt and the heartbreak of him leaving the nest. W32.Kletz.H@mm......this Virus is a pain in the ass.

I got this fuc$%$# virus a few weeks ago, and it was really a mess. But finally i outfoxed it. This virus will create a file calles "winkcbl.exe" (or in that way, I don't remember exactly) in the "System" directory of Windows (and the file is cloaked). This file is protected by Windows itself, as long as it is in this directory, and it can't be moved. And DOS don't see the file. To eliminate the file, I copied the whowe directory with exception of the virus file. with the help of the "Norton commander" toll, I named the "System" directoy with the virusfile "System2" and the "System1" directory without the file "System". Then the file was not longer protected, and I deleted it and the old "System" direcory. And with the Help of Norton Anti-Virus I killed all viruses on my PC.

Norton Anti-Virus is excellent to kill or repair the infected files.....

Re: Virus Scanner / Klez-Virus

The Klez-Virus is a very ugly bugger. He not only mails himself to another addy found in your address book or internet explorer cache - He additionally fakes the sender address to be another one out of the same source. So even if it says that you got this EMail from user A, it just means that both yours and User A's email-address can be found in the address book or cache on user B's (infested) computer. And there's no easy way to find out who user B is.

So, please - EVERYONE in here: check your comnputer. This stupid virus MUST be removed as soon as possible.

I get about 5 - 10 a week..... mostly to my gargoyles-fans.org-addy (so I suspect it's the cache-part of the virus fetching it from the fanfic main page).

Maybe it is another Firestorm (There is a Firestorm in the GFW... which is the reason I used Night Flame.)

Hello, Cats and kittens, IX9 here again and boy yeasterday was busy. I was stuck till 9:00 in the morning upgrading and installing new software and OS for the MAc and PC's in my little corner of the world. Then I had to install then new Express pay system, made sure that the customers were being charged properly blah, blah blah Yackety smackity.

After driving 30 minuents home I had to check out my printer and Cd burner and figure out why they wern't working. That didn't take too long for me to accomplish,

After that i started to work on revamping my website and writing of course...man so many things to do in such little time.

Oh, yeah i'm gearing up for my 23rd b-day as well.

Firestorm> Were you in Taina's and Lily's chat this past Sunday?

Now without further ado...

Josh>IX9: <<what do you think of Mac OS X?>>: I love it. Compared to OS 9<<Sweet.>>...well, there is no comparison. Its superior in every way, unless you're oddly attached to some quirk of OS9 (like the chooser or something)<< The only quirk i have with it is that's it's still on my Mac ;) But, not anymore.>>. Compared to Windows, I find it to be far more intuitive and far more stable. It seems to be much more standards compliant and takes advantage of many technologies that require complicated installation procedures in Windows.<<Really? Like what?>> Jaguar, the next version of OS X, comes out this summer and its gonna be even more amazing. You can check it out at apple.com/macosx/newversion.<<Thank you for the link dude i'll be sure to check it out.>> There is a caveat to all this though: OS X really needs a G4 and a lot of RAM. No matter what they say, every G3 that I see it on is a bit pokey for doing anything complex.<<Well, I maxed out the memory on my G3 and it's working just fine.(thank god) So i'm hope it will last me until i bye a G4 or better.>> I'm gonna max out the ram in my iBook and see what happens. <<unitl I got a Mac and I have been in-doors ever since>>: LOL. I'm not quite that bad<<Really how bad are you?>>

You can't be raising the most twisted girl on the planet, because that title already belongs to half of the girls I've dated. Which, oddly, is more than two girls 8-) << Heh, I got you beat by dating three..but that's old news.>>

Christine> PowerPuff Girls > anyone else seen the movie yet? We loved it, had a grand time. I can't imagine why my cousin won't let her kid watch the show. Says it's too violent. Honestly. Wherever would she get such an idea? <g> Though really, the best part was probably the Harry Potter preview. <<Hmm, really? I plan on seeing it today. you know since I'll have nothing else to do.>>

My son, Michael has decided to enlist in the Air Force. He has already talked to the recruiter, taken the military test (scored perfect in all 5 categories)<<That's awesome!>>, turned in his paperwork, and will be going to Kansas City for MEPS on Tuesday for his physical and to select the area in which he wants to enter. Because of his Eagle Scout award<<Your son was a Eagle Scout eh? I was a boy scout for a short while.>>, he will leave Basic at the rank of an E3. :)
I have very mixed feelings about this. <<All mothers do.>> While I'm extremely proud of his decision and proud of him, the "mom" side of me is dealing with the fear of him increasing his chances of being killed or hurt and the heartbreak of him leaving the nest. So, I do what most moms do... I sit in my bathroom and cry. <<Aw, poor Jan..*pats her back*>>
Looks like I'll be making a trip to San Antonio after he completes Basic (for his graduation). I don't mind, I have always loved San Antonio :)

Anna's home loan is moving right along and they are predicting that it will close by the end of this month. I will miss having Wacky Zachy here each day, but it's time for her to have her own place. She's been trying to move out on her own, but she's hit obstacles and delays with the home loan. Everything is fine now (that we know of) and hopefully I will be concerning myself with getting her and her furniture moved in just a few short weeks.<<Looks like your babies are leaving the nest. I will be having an EGD on Thursday - scope thingy down my throat to look into my stomach. *sais* I'm starting the quest to cure the stomach problems again. I *almost* had it completed but was side tracked by the heart surgery. I think I've been afraid to continue the stomach treatment/cure because of that. I mean, geesh! the last time I tried to have stomach surgery I ended up with a quadruple heart bypass... what's going to happen this time... a brain tumor?? *falls over* ;) <<For god sakes I hope not.>>

Spacebabie(again)Has anyone every played “Eternal Darkness?” Its fun watching your character go insane but I really got a kick out of one of the lines that was said by a middle aged character.
“What sorcery is this?”
The boy had no idea why I was laughing. << Youth doesn't get anything these days and yes I have played Eternal Darkness. I picked up a copy while preordering the nexy Smackdown game.

DPH: My grandfather is dead. He died this afternoon.<<MY condolences.>>

Josh(Again)And we aren't immune to Virii over here on the mac side either. We just don't get attacked by them because a) no one cares<<I'll probaly have to shoot for a more than B. Jay> Flamebaiter. Current lives are just about the only thing constantly changing to provide enough fodder for a lively forum.

Fire Storm> <<I think someone sent viruses to people using LM's name... no clue why someone would do that>>: I'd say address spoofer using randomly gathered addresses. I've gotten Mail Undeliverable autoreplies for messages I never sent to people I don't know.

Spacebabie> <<I just measured myself I'm 5'7" the last I measured myself I was 21 and stood 5'6". I'm freaked>>: So I only have 7 inches on you instead of 8.

DPH> <<$*(&^%)*&)(>>: I prefer going in order from ! for my unprintables.

Toku Kai> <<Banner adds from servers other than your own, who's bandwidth is getting chewed assuming that you run the banner in its own frame?>>: I'd say the banner's host. The main page's macine should only be requested for a bit of text telling each reader's browser where to look for the image.
<<I'm also a big fan of forcing basics of grammar and speech before allowing a student to pass on to Literature and Poetry>>: for 6th through 9th grade, I had separate mandatory classes in Literature and LAnguage Arts.
<<I'd cut down to elective status on the more specialized courses like... Trigonometry, Calculus>>: Assuming a 50/50 split between right and left brainers, those are going to be required courses for half the population (assuming also college). Of course, Calc is already an elective in high school, I believe.

Zath> <<I always thought "smeg" was just short for "smegma.">>: Perhaps subconciously, but I belive they never noticed until it was too late.

JLA> <<pay teachers enough to make it a job worth having>>: Joke I heard: Teachers are paid too much. Ignoring time spent grading, correcting tests, and other after hours tasks, that's a yearly salary of ~$234,000. Nevermind.

FS: Well, I think I found the possible source of my virus, at least ... it was messages I didn't even frickin' open with the subject line "pwrlevels." Both of them had hidden file attachments on them. Norton didn't destroy them, just quarantined them. Somehow these got past the hugely-powerful virus screens that my *server* has that apparently will block Yahoo! Groups mail at will but will let crap like this past.

The "pwrlevels" mail might be coming from more than one person, though, because I have it from three seperate senders. Additionally, I might add, I most nights wind up interrupting long IM's with Ravyn having to give the Norton firewall FS put up on my machine instructions to block the asshole hacker who seems to enjoy subscribing my address to every sick fetish porn site on the planet. :P

Kaioto - Public Schooling: You want better public schools? Then you need to fire all the beauocrats, streamline the system, and pay teachers enough to make it a job worth having (and worth going through extra schooling for!). Apathy on the part of teachers is a huge problem, IMO.

I don't know about you, but I learned banking skills in 7th grade in Math. We created pretend companies, traded pretend stocks, learned how to balance a checkbook, write a check and the importance of savings. Do they not teach this anymore?

Government courses teaching law? Not sure I follow you there. Government is to learn about how the nation/state/city is run and the Constitution, not to pour out a ton of laws onto kids. I think what you want is like a "Criminal/Civil Justice" class but these laws change so often that it would cost a lot of money to keep the texts updated.
Ironically, I live in an agricultural community and we are on a year round school track. Even though there ARE crops to take care of.

At any rate, Kai, I am very pleased to see someone as young as you who doesn't have kids (YET!) concerned about this issue. :)

Christine> <<sort of our own "smeg" (been re-watching all my RD tapes, yay!)>> I always thought "smeg" was just short for "smegma." <<if they're too well-shielded from all things violent and scary, they're in for a heck of a rude awakening>> That reminds me of two of my former roommates. They were like over-grown children with credit cards. Until living with them, I hadn't known that it was possible for anyone to reach adulthood (legal adulthood if not mental adulthood) and still be so naïve.

Coyote> <<Now, with Ravyn on her way to Jersey ... tonight there's a wildfire going through St. John's Marsh, which isn't even five miles away from me>> When I was in Los Angeles, large chunks of southern California were (and probably still are) burning down all over the place. Kai: 'This' long. Smart-assed comments aside, Mac OS X has its share of security flaws just like any other OS. The trick is Apple doesn't make an effort to hide them, doesn't sue people who reveal them, and fixes them as quickly as they can.

As for emulation, don't knock it until you've tried it on a dual processor machine. Yeah, some people can't afford them blah blah blah, but I did. I can run almost any windows program (games don't work well, but everything else does), any UNIX program in an X shell, and any mac program made for OS 7.5 or later. Emulation rocks. It may not be as fast as a Pentium 1.8 GHz, but the engineering calculation programs I use in Virtual PC are fast enough to be useable. For the mac, many "cool games and applications" are available, no emulation required. Just a port. And then there's my age old comment: "how many first person shooters do you really need?"

And we aren't immune to Virii over here on the mac side either. We just don't get attacked by them because a) no one cares and b) Mac apps aren't vulnerable to the same stupid exploits as windows (which isn't to say they don't have stupid exploits of their own - see the current Software Updater hubbub).

Now, that said, I sometimes wonder why people who don't *need* a PC (i.e. for a particular program) and complain about these problems haven't switched to Mac. Then I remember that I do my share of bitching too, so it all comes down to which problems you're willing to tolerate and which interface suits you better. Personally, the mac interface could degenerate into a 16-color POS and I still wouldn't trade it for all the Palladium-DRM-crap that M$ is planning for the future of Windows. Fortunately, right now my only complaint is that mail.app doesn't handle spam the way I'd like, but that's a program choice not a platform choice. And iTunes skips with airport on my dp800, but that's reportedly been fixed for Jag. Yay.

Leo: if you want a 128 MB Radeon 8500, then you can get one. At least I think its 128. I could be wrong. 8-)

Anyone want to take a pool-bet on how long it takes Josh to make a smart-ass comment about the number of viri that work on the Mac OS 10? :)

I really hope this OSX thing gets a good chunk of 3rd party support. The only drawback I've ever seen for Unix-flavored systems is having to use emulation in order to get at many cool games and applications. That sort of defeats the purpose of the enhanced performance of a *nix box. But, I guess relative immunity to viri and not having your OS explode every time a program crashes is still worth it to many folks.

I have a random question for people out there in the know: Banner adds from servers other than your own, who's bandwidth is getting chewed assuming that you run the banner in its own frame? The main page host, the banner's host, or both?

Bleh, have to use the digital camera more liberally at the next Gathering, methinks.

Outrageous thought of the day: What sorts of curiculum changes would help improve the quality of public schooling?

I'm all for adding in some basic business and personal finance training. I think kids need to learn about advertising, where things they buy come from, how a bank works, the dangers of debt, what a stock is, and how important it is to save and budget their money.

I'm also a big fan of forcing basics of grammar and speech before allowing a student to pass on to Literature and Poetry. You don't get a fair chance in the job market of the world if your school didn't make you recognize that "ain't got none" and strings of explicatives aren't acceptable in most public settings, let alone professional ones.

It would be nice if our Government courses included information about Law as well. Basics of Philosophy including rational argument and logical proofs should be taught at the beginning of High School or the end of Middle School too.

I think I'd cut down to elective status on the more specialized courses like Current Events, non-Western civ, Trigonometry, Calculus, and advanced Literature.

Extending the school day or the school year might be helpful too. It isn't very logical to continue patterns based around farming when most of the population does not farm anymore.

Ah well, if I ruled the world we'd all be in deep trouble, I'm sure. :)

now, where was I? (DC deleted this previous post)

Oh yea, now I remember. This is a burial plot ready for my grandfather, but there's a catch. It is owned by my aunt. On the other hand, it makes a great assett to be seized. You see, my grandparents sold some property a while back. WHen my $%(*^%****^%^*%^**^%*$356*(&))*#%$*)(*%^&*()^%&*()*^%#^&*()*&()(*%^&*()*%^&*()(*&%^&*()*&%^&*()*^%&*()%$r%&*()(*%&*()(%&*()%*()^%*()(^%&*()&*(^%&*()**&*()(^%&^%&*()*&^%^&*()*&%^^&*()^%^&*()*&^%&*()*&^%&*())*&^^&*()*&^%&*()&^%&*()(*&*()*&^%&*()(*&^%&*()^%&*()&*((*)&^%^&*()*%^&*((&^%^&*(()*&^%%^&*&*( aunt took of care, payments were still being received from the sell of that property. My brother estimates there is $20,000 of that money around that is unaccounted for. By law, my aunt could have only spent the money on my grandfather. Since I know that didn't happen, there's an inheritance to be found. My brother and I are entitled to $5000 apiece from that because of the will.

Spacebabie - <Now that sounds like a pretty good idea.> That is probably going to happen.

Sunday afternoon, my brother offered to take me to visit my grandfather one last time becasue we knew he had only hours to left. I didn't go because I didn't want to deal with the emotional pain. Monday, my brother and I traveled to check on funeral arrangements (I drove both of us in my car :-)) for my grandfather. That's where I found out the earlier information.

I was mad at my dad yesterday. While I was gone, he visited my house and left my front door wide open. When I talked to him about it, he didn't think it was that big of a deal.

Todd -- e-mail? You should be able to download the program straight from the site. They don't e-mail it to you. The only e-mail I remember was maybe for registration?

The only problem I ever had with AVG was that it's so popular, sometime it's difficult to download because their server is overloaded with users. When I went to Windows XP, I had to wait a while to get the latest AVG because their server got overrun with people downloading.

Todd --

two words. Antivirus Program.

Some of the major ones even have a free trial period. The best one I like is AVG, and it's completely free for a US user. Just go to www.grisoft.com It's the only one I use. I get over 50 e-mail groups/lists, and am on the net constantly on a daily basis. No virus problems since I got AVG.

DPH -- My sympathy for your loss.

Kathy -- rollercoasters, my one regret about VA was not being able to go to Busch Gardens with everyone on Monday. sigh... I adore rollercoasters.

okay, things to do, including my muchly belated Con Journal.

This is a request for help from those who are more computer-savvy than I am.

In early May of 2002, I received a blank e-mail with an attachment, purporting to come from Lady Mystic. Now, normally, I understand that opening attachments on mysterious e-mails is a bad idea, and avoid it. But I knew about Lady Mystic, and was so honestly bewildered about the blank e-mail that I forgot my customary caution and opened the attachment, resulting (apparently) in receiving a virus on my computer.

After the first warning signs appeared, I finally took the desperate step (a couple of days later) of re-installing my computer with a backup system, after which the signs of virus havoc disappeared. However, this morning, my WordPad program, which had been working fine up until now, suddenly stopped working; whenever I tried to open any document created by it (such as RTFs), the attempt failed, with a message saying "Could not create empty document". I'm quite worried by this, and wonder if the virus could be activating again, if it had survived the purge after all and is returning.

I need some advice on what to do about this, since apparently purging the system doesn't work. I don't think that I can afford to buy a new computer, so I need some definite suggestions for how to get rid of this virus, once and for all. Please help me out.

Chris > No other show in Greg Weisman's Gargoyles Universe has been produced for television. Therefore we can't give you channel or time information. Several of his spin off ideas have been incorporated into TGS (The Gargoyles Saga) the online and found only on this website, continuation of Gargoyles. The various series are mostly under hiatus although there is a new season of Timedancer in the works as we speak.

DPH > Condolences on your loss.

Christine > It would be nice if parents could find some kind of happy medium between total protection and complete exposure. After all, children do need some time of innocence other wise they become worldly beyond their years and scary.

And speaking of protecting us all from ourselves. How about that new attack on roller coasters? - click the link for more.

GSide> ahhh ok! Since you were the one who mentioned the "brainwashing" then it's funny! :D

Josh> *chuckles* well here in the Ozarks, it's not against the law to defend your property. From my basic understanding of the trespassing laws here - if you were to come onto my property and then refused to leave (and I felt threatened) then I would be justified in using whatever force was necessary in removing you from my property. Of course, the best solution is to call the law enforcement but if that's not an option or the situation esculates before the deputies can arrive - then I could beat you severely, throw rocks at you, shoot you, sic my dog on you, whatever means of getting you to leave - I can legally do so. hehehe gaw, I love the Ozarks! ;)

Okay, you want to talk about duality in a relationship?

For a few weeks, we've heard about the Show Low fire in Arizona ... haven't heard quite as much about it in recent days, but I haven't heard anything about it being extinguished.

Now, with Ravyn on her way to Jersey ... tonight there's a wildfire going through St. John's Marsh, which isn't even five miles away from me. Fortunately enough, there's a limit to how much can burn there (unless it starts consuming homes), and no less than seven fire companies are working to put it out.

But it's still freaky.

Greetings all...

Just delurking from a still-busy schedule... just have to answer a couple of questions:

CHRISTINE - RE: "Frell"... that's actually a curse word generated by Rockne S. O'Bannon's "FARSCAPE". The characters use in in place of Damn, and other colorful swear words. I think it's actually a amaglam of "Frickin' Hell!" but that's my theory.

RE: AVALON MISTS - Okay, just so that there's no further misconception on this...

For Starters, I'm NOT making another magazine to replace Avalon Mists. I'm working on a brand new issue of Avalon Mists, but the problems have been the lack of response from the server admins in Gargoyles-fans.org on the switchover of the server account access from Christine to me.

The Good news now is that I've been told the account is switched, and just a couple of pieces need to get into place, and I'll start getting the new issue into place. For the moment, the OFFICAL (and I mean this now) release date for the new Avalon Mists is August 1st.

Looking forward to get this in place and running. More to report later. ^_^

DPH > condolences to you and your family on your loss.

Spacebabie > <<When the frell is that coming out anyways?>> Frelled if I know ... that's the Other Gang of Idiots department ; )

Out of curiosity, is "frell" unique to this room, sort of our own "smeg" (been re-watching all my RD tapes, yay!) or did it come from elsewhere? Word Origins for 300, please, Alex ...

Josh > I guess I have a hard time understanding those parents who so diligently want to shelter their kids. A measure of that is good, but if they're too well-shielded from all things violent and scary, they're in for a heck of a rude awakening. Then again, given that I'm raising probably the most warped little girl on the face of the planet, I guess I shouldn't talk ; )

Black Roses update > it's now looking like the audio version *may* be ready in August. And my editor at RAP just sent me an e-mail to the effect that they're ready to start talking contract for a print version. Given the swiftness of RAP, it'll be funny to see which comes out first.

Site update > didn't work out as planned; I spent the whole day wrestling with a synopsis (have I mentioned I hate that part of the process?) and a soul-baring letter to my mom about some tough family issues. Was just too warn out, and I had to go back to work last night after a blissful two weeks off. Will hopefully get it done today or tomorrow, but Thursday's looking like the better bet.

Thanks, but our real concern is Breakdowns; so far, we've had a scarcity of people actually pitching in on working on the outlines for stories, season arcs, etc. Usually, it winds up being a case of somebody (often me) writing an outline, presenting it to the rest of the list, and then the place becomes so silent that you can practically hear the crickets chirping.

My parents are in the paperwork stages of remodeling the kitchen and laundry room. I'm sort of introducing the contractor to CAD programs like "Chief Architect 8" and "3D Home." He still draws by hand but wants to start learning the software. I'm also honing my Photoshop skills by creating "virtual photos" of what the kitchen would look like with different cabinets and countertops (Taking a digital photo of a door sample and superimposing multiple copies of the door on a digital photo of the existing cabinets). It seemed like fun when I came up with the idea but after 5 different samples, I'm sick of it.
Mother: "I just brought home a new door sample, could you please, pretty please, make another digital photo for me? I have to return it tomorrow."

This is the price I pay for still living with my family (although I'm sure she'd ask if I didn't still live here)

Has anyone every played “Eternal Darkness?” Its fun watching your character go insane but I really got a kick out of one of the lines that was said by a middle aged character.
“What sorcery is this?”
The boy had no idea why I was laughing.

Did the mall thing instead of the movie. Mom needed a trifle dish. She has all the ingredients for a trifle but not the dish. She also wanted some coffee from Barney’s…yum. My main reason to go was to pick up some stuff from Bath and Body works, well they were renovating.
Frell!

We went to Sephora and checked out the Urban Decay products, Mom did find the right shade of gloss but there was a shade of shadow that I wanted. It’s called “Shattered.” and it’s Demona blue.. Guess what. They were out of it.

Double Frell!

I found the 12 months of Disney pins display with no problem at the Disney store. Guess wich one they didn’t have? Yup you were right. They didn’t have a topaz Pooh birthstone pin either.

Triple Frell! I did pick up a cute and fluffy Stitch stuffed animal.

Also bought some green tea, its good with honey, Lain ((Not the CR Lain.. Serial Experiments Lain)), and a coat for winter.

The coat is faux leather, lined with faux fur. Did I mention its also a trench? It was also under 25 dollars so it was a good deal, except when I wear it with my red hat I look like the female version of Huggy Bear.

Oooh Serial Experiments Lain is, well strange. The opening theme sounds like a song that they would play at the Bronze.

Trifle turned out yoummy. The boy didn't like it cause the pundcake was sokaed in melon liqure.

Christine<<<After all, I'm sure that he's already hard at work on his own 'zine to replace AvMists>>>When the frell is that coming out anyways?

Got back from Berkeley last night at around 1AM. Driving for an hour when you're tired is not a good idea. More LSAT prep today. 3 hours...ugh. On the plus side, it was at Santa Clara University, so I managed to get some good eye candy 8-) And the teacher is pretty good. Knows his stuff and reasonably funny. I also noticed that I did fairly well on the practice LSAT. 75th percentile. Not *good*, but any standard, but then again that's why I'm taking the class.

I also had to drive to work because its the only place where I get free, stable, high-speed net access. Had to take another practice GRE. I did much better on this one (see what happens when I actually use a calculator on the math section), but my verbal score dropped. My vocab just isn't what it used to be, probably because I've been mumbling in numbers for the last three years. Well, that's what the tutoring is for.

Vashdoka: <<Damn my slow typing>>: The only solution is to spend even MORE time on the computer 8-)

Warpmind: <<there are *more* configurations for PCs than for Macs, last I checked>>: True, but I often wonder how important that is. I mean, a 128 MB GeForce4 is a 128 MB GeForce4, no? <<PCs don't suffer from those all-in-one solutions that look like a shrunken VW New Beetle>>: Dude, that's just one product line. <<Don't mind my bias against Macs. I'm a gamer>>: I saw the most beautiful thing the other day: Warcraft III running at *native* resolution on the 23" Cinema HD Display. That's 1920x1200 pixels of flatscreen love!

Todd: <<pretty much discourages the more "over-the-top" concepts (such as heavy sexual themes>>: Oh, bullplop. I've seen some pretty overt innuendo. <<So orgy scenes, say, are strictly out of the question>>: SJ just lost all interest. <<I don't like orgy scenes myself, either>>: But you're such a sleeze!

Lain: <<THAT was the slowest top ten ive ever seen>>: Some of us don't like to wake up early.

Spacebabie: <<I’m going to see if I can convince the maternal unit to go to the mall so I can stop by the Disney store>>: Get a car you slacker bum. <<I’ll use a fork lift>>: Dis. <<Now how much of that is spent on actual work?>>: Less. <<Okay Brooklyn naked>>: He's already in a loin cloth. <<con virgins are more fun>>: Obviously you haven't been using your virgins correctly. <<Confusion bubbles float behind Spacey’s head:::I hate math>>: Basically, engineers consider something small relative to something else if its about 1/100 or less. <<Cause I was looking at guys>>: Worthless. <<So you are thinking about Mojo Jojo>>: Aren't we all? <<I have to wait for my brother to leave the house before I play with his game cube>>: I'm sure you'll be waiting for *everyone* to leave the house now 8-) <<what is funnier the perves or that uberprude woman>>: Uberprudes are always funnier.

Jan: <<I don't think that you have anything to worry about him attempting to insert inappropriate material into the TGS>>: I think I'd expect *some* measure of subtle innuendo, though perhaps not sexual.

Christine: I saw powerpuff girls with my roommate. We both laughed our butts off. <<Says it's too violent>>: There's a whole generation of parents out there that think children should never be exposed to violence. Sucks for us kids.

Gside: <<My CDRW is fixed. Just had to download a couple updates>>: I hate when that happens. Updating firmware bites. <<Thought I already had them all on a floppy included with it.>>: If that were the case it wouldn't be an *update*. <<I might if it weren't for that court order>>: What, do you live in the south? Only there can they make laws about what you do in bed. <<That is why you have been calling me incessantly, right?>>: No. I call you for help on my homework. <<How much does it cost to get to Florida?>>: Depends on the method and time of year. <<I am infamous for abusing the self serve soft serve machines>>: Abusing them how, exactly? <<Everyone is Mikey under the right circumstances>>: We use "Ted". <<convincing females to get nearer too me? You might be stretching it>>: I dunno, some women are very maleable. <<wishful thinking doesn't hurt. I think>>: Letdowns can get pretty painful. <<The controlers are just sextoys>>: At what point does a toy become the a partner? <<Sure that would be enough?>>: I've seen some pretty powerful forklifts.

Jan: <<I can't believe that you actually think that because it's part of the morning activities in school for the Pledge of Alligence kids are being "brainwashed">>: What I think is that the pledge is surprisingly fascist. No other free countries have such a thing. Its one thing to sing the national anthem at a ballgame, its quite another to institute it in public schools. <<It has got to be one of the most lame reasons I've heard yet over this particular issue>>: You're missing my point. I don't take issue with the pledge being recited in schools. I take issue with the under god thing. Has nothing to do with brainwashing (well, sorta, just subtly). <<Michael has decided to enlist in the Air Force>>: Congrats! I wish him the best of luck for doing what I never had the guts to do. So will he ever be a pilot? Or just a bombjockey? ;-) <<the last time I tried to have stomach surgery I ended up with a quadruple heart bypass... what's going to happen this time... a brain tumor??>>: Don't you die on us!

DPH: <<My grandfather is dead. He died this afternoon>>: My condolences.

Being a Linux user is sort of like living in a house inhabited by a large family of carpenters and architects. Every morning when you wake up, the house is a little different. Maybe there is a new turret, or some walls have moved. Or perhaps someone has temporarily removed the floor under your bed.

Kathy - <No, there's a difference between active and passive suffering. The people at the shelter do their best to alleviate passive suffering. But you are doing nothing to end this kitten's active pain. So to me that's a big honking difference.> I can't do nothing for said kitten if it makes itself hard/impossible to find.

Imzadi - <Really depressing, what if he's waiting for someone that is, uh, permanently detained?> That's something to consider and highly probable.

Todd - <This, by the way, is (we hope) something of a lesson to our potential future recruits: if you join TGS, you really have to make a commitment to it. It's not something that you can just walk away from after you get bored with it a couple of days into it. Leaving it because you've got a lot of RL responsibilities is perfectly all right and commendable. Leaving it just because of a lack of interest in sticking it out isn't.> And if you decide to leave, let people know. <Almost everybody who signed up left without telling anyone - just deserted without any sense of commitment to the project. So that leaves us with pretty much the same staff size as it was before the recruitment drive.> I can count the number of people on one hand who joined when I did and stayed.

Lain - <don't just join cos you want the spoilers.> Yes, joining TGS staff involves work and people need to know that. <well.. THAT was the slowest top ten ive ever seen.> Actually, this was at the pace of the other CR.

PKBitchGirl - What if TGS simply agreed to keep the rest of the world up to date if how progress on Timedancer Season 4 was coming? Little things like knowing when 2-3 more stories were in final version?

Josh> <<<<If you can brainwash kids to be patriotic, the sky's the limit>>: I can't believe that you actually think that because it's part of the morning activities in school for the Pledge of Alligence kids are being "brainwashed". I've heard a few others spew this garbage and I certainly didn't expect it from you. It has got to be one of the most lame reasons I've heard yet over this particular issue... grasping at straws.
I hope that you were making a joke and I just didn't realize that you were kidding around or being sarcastic.

My son, Michael has decided to enlist in the Air Force. He has already talked to the recruiter, taken the military test (scored perfect in all 5 categories), turned in his paperwork, and will be going to Kansas City for MEPS on Tuesday for his physical and to select the area in which he wants to enter.
So, I do what most moms do... I sit in my bathroom and cry.
Everything is fine now (that we know of) and hopefully I will be concerning myself with getting her and her furniture moved in just a few short weeks.

*falls over* ;)

to bed to bed... we currently have 39 inmates with a comfortable capacity of 25. O_o Busy week ahead of me....

My CDRW is fixed. Just had to download a couple updates. Thought I already had them all on a floppy included with it.

Imzadi> <<That's sleeping naked time if I've ever heard it>>: I might if it weren't for that court order.
<<Which sucker would sign up for that job?>>: That is why you have been calling me incessantly, right?
<<I dunno, can you return tampons, condoms, lube, or blow-up dolls?>>: Well, vibrators are reusable unlike the first threee, and easier to clean than allegely half of the last.
<<Spacebabies clothes might fit you>>: Well then. How much does it cost to get to Florida?
<<??>>: At Rutgers, I am infamous for abusing the self serve soft serve machines at the diniing hall.
<<But he didn't ask mikey>>: Everyone is Mikey under the right circumstances.
<<If you can brainwash kids to be patriotic, the sky's the limit>>: Good point. But still, convincing females to get nearer too me? You might be stretching it.
<<With both of us on the other side of the country, that's some wishful thinking>>: But wishful thinking doesn't hurt. I think.
<<Wouldn't that be a foursome?>>: Nah. The controlers are just sextoys.

Wilek> <<Now who needs licking?>>: Yo. Well, not from you.
<<Who is the room's most knowledgable Supermegatopia fan?>>: I believe I have read the entire website, with the exception of the forums. If you want to try me, go ahead. Oh, and who are you going to horribly mutilate? Buxom Gal? Topless Las? Jiggly Jill?

Warpmind> <<Um, no tips, thanks>>: Are you absolutely sure?
<<maybe if Wilek has any ideas>>: And apparently, he does.

Spacebabie> <<Ill use a fork lift>>: Sure that would be enough?
<<:::Confusion bubbles float behind Spaceys head:::I hate math>>: Mostly he was just being picky, but orders of magnitude are essentially how many numbers it takes to write it out (ignoring leading zeros xor decimals).
<<I bet he would>>: Evil laugh.

And a bit of Yoko Kanno for the mp3. Go Go Cactus Man, from Cowboy Bebop. Next time, I'll get around to the inspiration for that one.

Zombie news > well, alas, my story didn't win the Origins Award. The other zombie story from the same anthology did. Still a coup for Team Zombie, and it's still a kick to have been nominated. Now I just have to decide which idea to go with for the sequel!

Gathering > thanks again to those who keep posting tales and pics!

I should have a site update coming soon, hopefully today. Got some new art to add to the Gallery. But first, must write a synopsis of Changeling Moon. I hate this part. Never was any good at outlines.

SJ and TGS > just make sure that he doesn't get loaded down with too many assignments. After all, I'm sure that he's already hard at work on his own 'zine to replace AvMists. Musn't overwork the fellow. ;)

PowerPuff Girls > anyone else seen the movie yet? We loved it, had a grand time. I can't imagine why my cousin won't let her kid watch the show. Says it's too violent. Honestly. Wherever would she get such an idea? <g> Though really, the best part was probably the Harry Potter preview.

ummmmm?? SJ is quite outspoken about his personal views on these type of fics. i.e. he doesn't like them and thinks that they are a waste of space, engery, and braincells.
Forgive me, SJ for speaking on your behalf - I know that you are more than capable of speaking for yourself ;)
But no... I don't think that you have anything to worry about him attempting to insert inappropriate material into the TGS. In fact, I think he would bring an element of excitement, fresh, and creative ideas to the staff. Heck, I might even start reading them if SJ is on staff! :)

Hey! more pictures! More journals! =)

SEVARIUS JR. - Well, actually, the way that the Pendragon recruiting procedure functions at present is this: volunteers e-mail me and let me know that they're interested in working for "Pendragon". I forward their request to the list (which, preferably, should include the qualifications for the job - information on where to find previous writing of the applicant and his or her specialties and knowledge concerning this and that are particularly helpful), and we decide whether to accept.

Keep in mind that if you do join TGS, you might want to put your wilder ideas on a leash; we've got a S&P system that pretty much discourages the more "over-the-top" concepts (such as heavy sexual themes). Our goal is to (as much as we can) keep the series to the level of the original television series in terms of what's acceptable for S&P and what isn't. So orgy scenes, say, are strictly out of the question.

LAIN - Thanks for your post; it is indeed a very accurate account of just how things have been at TGS lately. I'm hoping that this will explain what our current position is to our audience. Imzy-wimzy> <<Which sucker would sign up for that job?>> Licking? Oh I have something in mind. [Wilek sounds a low note on a ghastly little flute, and *something* visits the CR, looking like a dehydrated Predator corpse, swinging in using a long, stretchy, movie-Toad type tongue with a xenomorphic secondary jaw. Upon arriving, the critter spies Mr. Disconnect and, quick as a whip, uses its tongue to reduce his head to a crater.] Now who needs licking?

Oh, and the point of this post: Who is the room's most knowledgable Supermegatopia fan? I need some help, preferably over e-mail, for a project. Thankee.

Good god that was nerve-wracking! I took a mock LSAT at 9AM today. 5 sections, 25 questions in 35 minutes for each one. I'm amazed that I was able to finish *most* of the sections. It was really tough too. Well, I'm glad I'm taking the prep course! And fortunately I never have to drive to Palo Alto again 8-)

Drove up to Berkeley to unload/load stuff between apartments and took a practice GRE while I was at it. Didn't do so well. Of course, I rushed like no one's business and didn't have a calculator, so that helps somewhat. But I'll have to start doing vocab reviews, etc.

IX9: <<what do you think of Mac OS X?>>: I love it. Compared to OS 9...well, there is no comparison. Its superior in every way, unless you're oddly attached to some quirk of OS9 (like the chooser or something). Compared to Windows, I find it to be far more intuitive and far more stable. It seems to be much more standards compliant and takes advantage of many technologies that require complicated installation procedures in Windows. Jaguar, the next version of OS X, comes out this summer and its gonna be even more amazing. You can check it out at apple.com/macosx/newversion. There is a caveat to all this though: OS X really needs a G4 and a lot of RAM. No matter what they say, every G3 that I see it on is a bit pokey for doing anything complex. I'm gonna max out the ram in my iBook and see what happens. <<unitl I got a Mac and I have been in-doors ever since>>: LOL. I'm not quite that bad.

Revel: <<Who has heard or read anything about PS 7.0?>>: To my understanding, the only new features are the healing brush and carbonization, the latter doesn't matter unless you use OS X. Save yourself the $200 upgrade. I'd still be using 6 if it ran in OS X, but I had to upgrade.

Jan: <<They referred to his prothestic leg as a "peg leg">>: Very PC 8-)

Niamhgold: <<I don't usually sweat when I sleep (er...>>: I second that "er". <<95 degree heat during bedtime>>: That's sleeping naked time if I've ever heard it. <<everyone else is healthy, and seemingly happy. Which is all you can really ask for, I guess>>: That's not what I'm asking for my high school class 8-) <<I'm trying, for my host's sake, to keep things down to a minimum>>: I'm sure the sucker who's putting you up can find some extra space. <<Maybe the biz cards I'm making for them will help>>: Do you have any idea how much space cards take up? <<it depends if you're Mac or PC>>: Carbonization is a big plus. With 7, there is only one more application I'm waiting for, and Mathworks finally announced it for this winter. Of course, by that time I won't need it. <<concerning bananas, it'd be monkeys. Concerning popsicles...now THERE'S the not-so-innocent thought track>>: Are popsicles somehow less perverse than bananas? <<berating him for NOT drinking enough>>: That happens many times. <<Sadly, RL sucks>>: Maybe you'll have some time while you're on vacation. <<You remind me of my friend Ivanny (only taller>>: And hairier! <<Someone will have to lick you to find out>>: Which sucker would sign up for that job? <<why would you need to do that?>>: I'm an engineer. I count things. 9 days, for example. <<ever closer to the mac & PC household>>: I'm sure if you wanted to you could stick with PC's. But as you get more and more towards film studios, you might wind up on some *NIX. <<to say that Apple is making it difficult to do anything creative on any machine other than a mac is unfounded>>: Notice the word "starting" from my sentence. When 70,000 Windows-using musicians have to switch from Emagic or switch to Mac, I'd call that a start at making it difficult to do on a PC. Besides, Apple has swallowed 4 digital media companies in the last 3 months. Who's to say more aren't on the way? Apple is *never* going to be able to make it *impossible* to do creative on Windows, because they only have 4 billion dollars to spend. But they can make a dent. <<I wonder if there's any leniency in their return policy>>: Ewwww. I dunno, can you return tampons, condoms, lube, or blow-up dolls? <<You AREN'T a vampire>>: Sometimes. <<Always accepting applications>>: "disturbed WM seeks disturbed WF for roommate. Must split internet connection." <<Northern California>>: Why the hell would you go there? It sucks. I should know. <<::Happy Thoughts:: ...whoo, I'm worn out>>: I wondered what that smoke was coming from the east.

PKBitchGirl: <<when is the new season of TGS coming out?>>: Never. Stop asking.

Sevarius: <<So, you looking for recruits? I always have time to kill>>: Dude, I would *love* to see your influence on these stories. But if you always have time to kill, then why don't you post in here more often? <<It's a rather unique way of using the old Gamecube controller>>: LOL!

Gside: <<They're not drunk enough. Or insane enough. Same thing>>: The former is a temporary form of the latter, though often with the same effects. <<so far, I'm both>>: Reminds me of RHPS: "If you're actually a virgin (sex), you're probably a virgin (RHPS)". <<I do question the validity of that patent.>>: As do I. Didn't stop people from licensing it just to avoid lawsuits ::cough::Apple::cough:: <<Then who should I trade with?>>: Spacebabies clothes might fit you. <<I'd have to look up the kms/imperial conversions, and I already know 32f/s/s off the top of my head>>: Someone at GE the other day gave me a load in units of kilograms-force. kgf!? WTF!? Just use newtons. This is why we have SI, people! <<I do have ice cream groupies>>: ?? <<I don't know of another easily obtainable source of magnesium>>: I'm sure someone does, though. <<Mikey likes it>>: But he didn't ask mikey. <<So you like it cold? Going to be heading over to the undead quarter's red light district?>>: Might not be cold enough. <<He must be pretty ugly>>: And fuzzy. <<what does it have to do with the Pledge of Alegiance brainwashing kids into being patriotic?>>: If you can brainwash kids to be patriotic, the sky's the limit. <<You? Imzadi?>>: With both of us on the other side of the country, that's some wishful thinking.

Jaden: <<in case you didn't know the new trailer for the next Lord of the Rings movie is out at quicktime.com>>: The bastards spoiled the return of Galdalf! How dare they!

Lain: <<a threesome with king arthur and the olsen twins and vibrating nintendo gamecube controllers?>>: Wouldn't that be a foursome? <<i wonder what the heck the other 27 are doing>>: While SJ is writing about the gamecub controllers, the other 27 are using them 8-) <<lets not all hop on the critical bandwagon till weve tried the other side>>: Too late.
