Canning > I used to do dozens of jars every year. Pie fillings, tomato sauces, chunks and pastes, pickles. Pickled green beans - Yum! Even used to do mincemeat and stewmeat.
But that back when I had access to lots of produce. My garden this year was reduced to whatever we could use fresh with no carry over.

One caveat - be sure to stick to new recipies. Especially with tomatos. One of the by products of all the improved breeding programs is tomatos are no longer considered a "high acid" fruit. As such, they now require the addition of vinegar or pressure canning to be safely put up.

Opposum fun > I like animals. At one point in my life I was an animal services officer and I used to relocate wildlife out of peoples homes on weekly basis. Opposums are ugly little critters, there's no getting around that, but they're really quite gentle.

Okay, I think its time to get back to nightly posting. My GRE and LSAT classes are over, I'm done with the many hours of homework I had every week. Work has been good. I've spent the last week working on my presentation, which will be given on Tuesday. Hopefully I can keep everyone awake.

Work is almost at a close. Just 9 more working days left!

Let's see...ordered my new auxiliary video card so I can hook up a second monitor, no other goodies right now but probably a ram upgrade for my iBook in the near future.

Barracuda: You really ought to post more often.

DPH: <<I'm mad because I can't collect anymore unemployment checks>>: My mother feels your pain. <<the s8 cr is currently 4 times bigger in content that this cr>>: I'll fix that!

Fire Storm: I don't think this case has anything to do with telling the difference between real and fantasy. Personally, I don't think believing in vampires is any more or less absurd than believing in god.

Spacebabie: <<Where doe these people come from?>>: Public schools, mostly. <<I was worried about Global warming and everyone was freezing their butts off and told me to stop whining??? Now do you believe me??>>: There is no proof that global warming is not a natural phenomenon. <<Now where is the Twister box?>>: Are Dreamie and Sorow playing naked?

Mooncat: <<that's their reason for trying him for the murder>>: He'd different...get him! <<grown up American people dismember poor little bunnies to make "lucky rabbit's foot">>: Actually very few rabbits' feet are really from rabbits.

Jan: <<humans have been stupid enough to believe in the "power of magnets" to heal their aches and pains>>: All magnets have the power to do is generate cancer-causing EM fields 8-) <<I've decided to attempt canning>>: I thought that was only legal in Singapore...oh wait, canning. Not caning. I was wondering how you were gonna cane with cucumbers. <<Wish Josh would come back to posting nightly again>>: What are your other two wishes! <<at any one time, 0.7% of the world's population are drunk>>: But 99% are stupid.

Warpmind: <<magic cards>>: If you find a sucker to buy them, let them know that you have a friend with thousands of cards from Revised through Ice Age he's trying to sell. <<their eighteenth birthday>>: Six 18-yr old identical girls? Are they hot?

Christine: <<that's a sheriff I'd vote for!>>: Me too! <<sugar-crystal d4's>>: Mmm, dessert dream of the D&D player!

Lain: <<GOD told her not to date him anymore>>: HAHAHA that's rich. Girls are too weird. <<at the end of this year, i can do ANYTHING i want>>: And why is that?

Sevarius Jr: <<I'd wait till October, when the Special Edition comes out>>: F*ck that. Wait till 2004, when you can get a full set of all three movies in special edition blah blah blah. <<The Balrog is just dreamy, I must say>>: You'd know. <<willing to engage in sexual activities for the right drugs>>: Drugs are too expensive. I recommend alcohol. Its slower, but much cheaper. <<I'll play around with more than their chromosomes!>>: Dude, you don't even know what they look like. <<did I just say that out loud>>: You're on cast!? ACK!

Lawrence: Learn to check spelling and grammar.

Gabriel: <<so what exactly is canning>>: That's where you take a big stick of bamboo and slap someone's @$$ with it.

okay, tired.

Christine> I've never heard of putting a pepper in each jar that is canned and none of the "old timers" here have mentioned it. I'm guessing that on some items, you'd want that flavor and that would absorb into whatever is in the jar. I've learned that if you can tomatoes, you are to put a pinch of salt at the top of each jar to help it from going bad and if the seal is just a fraction undone, it will also cause spoilage.

Gabe> Canning is where you take fresh fruits or vegetables and prepare/process them into jars. Like Del Monte only in my own kitchen ;) You clean, slice, peel, skin, or whatever you need to do with the fruit/veggie and then cook them in a very large pot. Sterilize your jars, pour the fruit/veggie into the jar and then either hot bath them or pressure cook the jars for a specific amount of time.
The canned foods are then good for at least 2 years on the shelf, if not longer.... plus they taste tons better than store bought canned goods =)

Yaaaaah! i updated my Web page. Nothing much but a re-edited Beast Wars fic. Check it out if ya want. The title of my first fic is "Close Decline of the Aftermath" and you can find it in the Beast Wars section under War of the Universe. It's a prolouge fic though. Check out my other fics 9which will be coming back soon) for a good idea as to what it is about.

That is, if you like beast Wars.

Vampires> ehhh, I have a cousin who was really into the whole vampire bit, even had caps for her teeth put in for a bit. Most are harmless and just like the night-time lifestyle and dark imagery. A few go way too far; but I firmly think you can't put age restrictions on something like vampire stuff or Mortal Kombat because of the few who have disorders.

Jan> so what exactly is canning O_o?

Weeeeee, I got two pet hermit crabs; I named them Demitri and Faust ^_^. It kinda sucks cuz my friend Jacque crab-sat for me while I went home to Houston to pick up some stuff for my new apartment, and her crab started to pick on my crab, but Demitry didn't fight back; he's already like his dad: a good pacifist ;P.

I'm internetless at the moment, so I won't be around much til I get internet in my home (I am at school right now).

DPH > at the time, it was D&D, this being back in the olden days when they were pretty much the only game in town.

Jan > I'm curious about canning (though have no real love for pickles). Heard or read somewhere that it's customary or necessary to put a slice of pepper on top of each jar before sealing. Is that so, and if so, whyever for?

lain > I'd offer the deal I've used with a few other artists, which is you mail me the pic, I scan it, and then mail the original back. But given the international postage rates, that might not be as feasible. Rats.

Sweeeee t Indigio! Way ta go Roy G. Biv!

Anyway about da vampire thing. I say there should be age restrictions only because I have seen WAY too many parents have no cares about what their kids do. I dunno. . . . It just seems to me that parents are a big part about what a kid does. I know parents who are snappy and lazy and their kids become destructive. The parents who are not lazy and not lenient creates kids that are . . . errr. . . . will become well mannered. (this of course doesn't apply to EVERYONE, but for the most part. . . . )

As for the age restriction itself= I think that at young ages kids are in a learning process about how the world works as a system. Violence in video games and such teachs a kid one way to deal with things. I think the problem comes when the parents are there. Parents who counteract the violence by teaching kids the morals of right and wrong are okay, but when parents are lazy, snappy, and 'no care' parents (as I often see them go through my register at work) they don't seem to be the best candidates to teach the kids what violence is and what right and wrong is.

I'm revising my statement to say that parents are a BIG part as to why there is so many troubled teens. And I think I'll change my age restriction policy to writing on the box "WARNING: Parents must be willing to educate their children about right and wrong to buy this product. Otherwise this product is only for kids ages 15 and over." or something along those lines.

I dunno . . . . all I know is that this is probably a hot topic in some people's hearts.

Gargs DVD: I'm so excited about the upcoming DVD I heard for Gargoyles. Is this all the episodes? I hope so. I have every episode taped! Except that one where they meet nessie, and the one where Goliath goes into the past and tells Demona to stay good but she doesn't. . . . (Time dancer I think or something like that). . . is all screwed up.

I wonder if the goliath chronicles are on it?

Anyway gotta go. . .

Hi eveyone just a very old member that left god who knows when but just comeing back to make a comment.

Vampires- I have a friend of 11 years but back in middle shool she statrd to become which I did for a short time maybe 2 years but she is still in that dress code anyway she started to get into a new faith which was vampireic. At first I didn't belive her about it but in fact there is such a religion. I found on a website, finding out that they even have a vampire bible. I didn't join her faith have no desire too but she told me alot of things about it which I found about of. But they don't kill people that is not them or her, now maybe some wacko yeah he/she wouuld.
I am a Anne Rice fan though it is just the way she writes her characters it is like you can feel some of their pain and desire's and I would say of all her character I would be Lestat's Lover!

If Green Baron still comes around which I think he does sometime, anyway this is Lawrence just saying hey! and hope that ur enjoying Germany. you still are there right?
anyway that is all

*Checks pulse* Yep, I'm alive, but the s8 cr is currently 4 times bigger in content that this cr.

Jan - <Interesting tidbit: It is estimated that at any one time, 0.7% of the world's population are drunk.> Hmm. On what percentage of the world is it raining at any given time?

Lain - <GOD told her not to date him anymore. :P i dunno. some people are just wierd.> Was there a more specific reason sited like conflicting religious beliefs? Hmm. That reminds me of a wife of a youth minister claiming God told her to keep her young son with her in a room of young ladies while on a mission trip.

Mooncat - <Now days, tiny kids get scolded if they play cops and robbers and use the word "bang, bang, you're dead!"> That's pc gone ridiculous.

Christine - <I always remember one of those cases of gamer suicide in which the kid's entire room was papered with game posters, all his books were game books, and his mother was quoted after saying something about how she had no idea this was such a big deal to him. You ask me, I think it wasn't _gaming_ that drove the poor kid to suicide.> You have a point. What kid of gaming, though?

Jan - <While you have to get a job now or can you qualify for disability?> I'm more actively seeking employment. I have an unexpected prospect. There's a guy who wants to sell his business through ebay. I hope I can make some money that way. I *finally* got back of state income tax rebate.

Ranitagoyle - <Does anyone know when the TGS is gonna come? > There's a promise. When the status on Timedancer season 4 's progress changes, the current episode page - http://tgs.gargoyles-fans.org/ce.html - will change. Not until then.

I claim a spot in the Bottom 100 before the room gets wiped!!

*walks in carrying a jar of bread and butter pickles in one hand and a jar of sweet pickle spears in the other*

yippee! I did it!! I canned 9 quarts of pickles from my one Wal-Mart bag full of cucumbers! I haven't tasted them yet, but will sample them tomorrow after they've gone thru the cooling down and settling process. I'm working on a salsa now to can :)

Sarge> ewww! my mom did the watermelon rinds once too!
Those are _nasty_ !! *L* She used to can every summer but then when it was just her and dad at home, she stopped. It's a lot of work *falls over* I did the simplest canning veggie and it took me most of the afternoon. I won't do anything that I have to boil, rinse with cold water, peel/skin and then do the canning process. *shakes head* Not fun.
I'm just eating my tomaotes straight from the garden. They sure taste different than store bought tomatoes! Much richer flavor.
Anna has sworn never to can and Michael has questioned me on the economical differences of home-canning -vs- store bought. *L*

hmmmm...another slow week of posting. Kind of bad when the admins won't even post here anymore. O_o
'Wish Josh would come back to posting nightly again.

Leo: <<My Brother who works at a video store brought the LOTR DVD home today pre release.>>

I'd wait till October, when the Special Edition comes out. FOUR full DVDs, full of everything you could possibly want to know about the movie. Enough Tolkien to make you SICK. That's what I'm gonna do, but if you MUST have the movie now, I guess knock yourself out.

The Balrog is just dreamy, I must say.

Vampires: Should all get their asses kicked.

Just because most of them (at least, most of the ones I've met) enjoy living that whole Anne Rice / Poppy Z. Brite blisteringly homoerotic, nauseatingly melodramatic, laughably melancholy look-I'm-a-little-gloom-cookie lifestyle which just ANNOYS the piss out of me. Just play your White Wolf games quietly like the rest of us.

I like my vampires & goths & vampire goths & gothic vampires like I like my women - mild-mannered, psychologically needy, and willing to engage in sexual activities for the right drugs.

But there I go slipping in shoot comments again!

Warpmind: <<The world's only batch of female hextuplets. Apparently, the docco's been made around their eighteenth birthday. *Blinks for a moment* No, SJ, you're NOT getting your hands on them. They're a medical sensation already; you are NOT allowed to play around with their chromosomes! >>

I'll play around with more than their chromosomes! *honks wacky horn* Huddala huddala.

Ranitagoyle: <<Hi! Does anyone know when the TGS is gonna come? >>

Well, WE're still working on Pendragon.

Oooops, did I just say that out loud?

Sarge - bite your tongue! Age limits? To learn about mythical monsters? You want scary, the classic "monster under the bed" wipes the floor with any vamp, werewolf, or mummy/zombie ripped from the grave... and no one "tells" a two year old there's a monster under the bed, they just seem to know.

As far as we know, this 17 year old boy may have just gotten into vampires. What age limit are we going to set to protect his fragile little mind?

At the age of 7 I was reading Bram Stoker's Dracula, as well as the works of Shakespeare. Maybe we should ban reading Shakespeare for anyone under a certain age least they decide to have sex or suicide like Romeo and Juliet?

I know reading Dracula didn't make me want to be a vampire. I wore a cross at 7 not because I was Christian, but because "just in case" there were vampires, I didn't want to be bitten. In case you read too much in that, grown men wear 'lucky' shirts and for some stupid reason thousands (if not hundres of thousands) of grown up American people dismember poor little bunnies to make "lucky rabbit's foot" key chains.

I also went through grade school and high school with a 'just in case you get sucked into another dimension where there are no stores or modern convenience' emergency supply pack consisting of tissues, matches, candle, book to read, and aspirin, bandaids and small useful dagger. Bar of chocolate optional.

As it stands, the matches and dagger would probably get me expelled in today's school system. Used to be no one looked twice at a pocket knife, especially if you grew up in farm country.

As a whole, those are useful things to have even if you don't fall through a hole between universes and land Elsewhere. I'd have carried a towel too, except it would be much too bulky.

Mind, I didn't believe I was going to drop down a rabbit hole, or get sucked into a tornado, trip through a looking glass, or any other classic story scenarios that are suitable for children both tiny and tender in years... but I reasoned it never hurts to take precautions.

I still carry tissues and aspirin in my purse. *^_~* And there's a little swiss army knife clipped to my key chain.

Now days, tiny kids get scolded if they play cops and robbers and use the word "bang, bang, you're dead!" I've seen poor little 5 year olds get "the voice of god" tongue lashings for just saying the word gun or shoot when playing.
I think they are going to be a lot more screwed up when they are adults then the little kid who gets to play make believe without getting reamed for innocent games. By the way, that scene wasn't from a cops and robbers game... it was a littler girl and her younger brother playing BAMBI. "And the hunter shoots Bambi's mom with his gun, and now she's dead..."

Jan > thanks; I am feeling mostly better. Hope you are too. And a happy half-year to Zach!

Sarge > I can't agree with you on an age limit (sayeth the mother of the weirdest kid headed into second grade), but I do agree that the parents need to be involved, need to know what their kids are up to and into.

I always remember one of those cases of gamer suicide in which the kid's entire room was papered with game posters, all his books were game books, and his mother was quoted after saying something about how she had no idea this was such a big deal to him. You ask me, I think it wasn't _gaming_ that drove the poor kid to suicide.

Speaking of quotes, had a lovely one originate from my old hometown of Lancaster, CA the other day. Apparently some guy kidnapped a couple teenage girls at gunpoint, leaving their boyfriends trussed up with duct tape. When the law finally caught up with him and shot him dead, the county sheriff said, "We don't have to rehabilitate the son of a bitch. This man right here is not going to appeal his case to the Supreme Court."

Now, maybe I'm heartless, but that's a sheriff I'd vote for!

I slept very oddly last night and had some sort of lengthy bizarre dream that involved Gargoyles for at least part of it. The rest was something about a police action search for a mad scientist who'd developed some sort of deadly new drug that took the form of rose-colored little sugar-crystal d4s and it was also some sort of precious life-giving substance to an alien race. Must have something to do with my reading material -- I just finished Relic, and the sequel, Reliquary, by Douglas Preston.

I know it would be cool to update my website with a huge "five 100 page stories reedited and new for You" ad in my news reel. . . . but I can't do it. I've gotta go slow. As for Gargie fan-fics all I can say is that I can't think of any at the moment to put in a series. However I can think of a lot of solo ones. I'll try writing them and posting them up on the Gargie-ficie site. They range from dramtic. . . . like a story about demona's past. . . . to comical. . . . like a day on the job with elisa Maza. . . . . to wacky. . . . brooklyn being attacked by millions of mutant twinkies.

REPLIES:

Vampires and other dangerous wannabes (and no I am not talking about Richard Simmons!)>> I'll jes say what I've always been saying about this. Their should be age restricitions. I know there are a lot of kids out there that would moan and gripe and go to the encyclopedias to find some kind of evidence against this, but the fact is I believe that kids that are in fifth grade and younger should not be playing Mortal Kombat or watching Scream or obssessing about vampires. I believe this is one of the factors into this, but I believe another big factor is the parents. I think how they treat their kids and how they teach their kids to act is a big part of it as well as what they control their kids to see.

i'm sorry I can't get over that name it's completely stupid. Who would name a town that? God it's longer than my last name!

I've heard about one kid from my friend that said he thought he was Batman. . . . . O.o

Kathy>> Wha. . . . oppossum? Kewl. . . . That doesn't happened every celestial full moon. . . . what did it say when you chat with it?

Jan>> Ahhhh canning. . . . I remembr back in the days when my mom canned waternelon rines. Pickled them she did. when she found out that none of her sons like them she stopped pickling. . . . . *shudders* pickled watermelon. . . yech. . . . . wouldn't mind a pickle though. . .

*Warpmind wanders in, juggling a HUGE pile of Magic cards.*
Well, my collection's now up on eBay, at last. Any interested peeps can click my link.
On to the regular CR.

There's a documentary on the Walton hextuplets tonight, I see... The world's only batch of female hextuplets. Apparently, the docco's been made around their eighteenth birthday. *Blinks for a moment* No, SJ, you're NOT getting your hands on them. They're a medical sensation already; you are NOT allowed to play around with their chromosomes! };)

Fire Storm: Sad to say, I've heard of other cases... For example, one in which a police detective had to introduce himself as the Prince of the city to get a young girl to tell the truth of how and why she'd killed her parents. (Interestingly, she claimed to be a Malkavien...)

Kathy: Oooh, an opossum? *Grins* Cute, ain't they? ;)

Spacebabie: You didn't understand where my mind was going. That is good. With the heatwave, my mind goes in directions even I am loath to consider. (And directions that would render Wilek terrified, knowing his attitude to such matters...) And Roughnecks IS good stuff. I even know for sure that Grew Weisman HELD the one I have. };) (He was the one who brought it to the auction in the first place.)

Well, that about concludes my post. I'll just return to spying on my eBay auction, now, I guess... :p

Christine> I hope that you are feeling better. I'm just now getting over a very harsh round of the flu myself. I haven't been this sick in a very long time.

Vampire Boy: Very flakey individual O.o I don't consider what was written about his obsession with vampires to be cirmcumstantial evidence, but to be the motive to his murdering the elderly person. I'm sure that there was much more concrete evidence not printed in this article for a jury to convict him of murder.

Spacebabie> *L* oh geesh - magnetic sweaters/shirts for dogs? How come I'm not surprised? Afterall, humans have been stupid enough to believe in the "power of magnets" to heal their aches and pains *chuckles* What is really stupid is if people actually buy these magnetic doggie sweaters. ^_^

Personal medical discoveries so far: no blood clot in my leg, inflamation of the stomach lining with a high degree of acid, but just a fraction under the % of the amount to register for the rare disorder that also has a tumor and I've found out that diuretics are _not_ my friends. I had a very bad reaction to just one tablet.

DPH> your unemployment ran out? While you have to get a job now or can you qualify for disability?

I've decided to attempt canning. I'm starting out simple with cucumbers (from my own garden!) and making bread and butter sliced pickles and sweet pickle spears. I'm also going to attempt salsa with the tomatoes that I've grown. I have prepared the cucumbers tonight (slicing and soaking in lime) and will begin the canning process tomorrow. I have no idea if I can do this, but I'm sure going to try! :) *farmer Jan* hehe

Wacky Zachy turned 6 months old yesterday! *sings 1/2 of Happy Birthday to him* I was able to get him into an exclusive and much desired daycare today too!!! *happy feet dance* The owners are former teachers and come extremely recommended. He will begin there on Monday. =) His sitter has moved out of town, so we have been scrambling to find him another one. Babysitters are very hard to come by here - all of them are booked solid.
I'm not that much of a daycare advocate (would prefer babysitting in a home situation) but from what I've heard and have observed, this daycare is as close to that as possible. Plus, when he gets old enough, he will be in a preschool environment.
He will only have to be in daycare for 4 hours a day, 4 days a week, so it's not too bad. :)

Firestorm> argh! sorry you have to move under such stressful situations! Moving sucks enough as it is.

Kathy> OMGosh! I would have died seeing a "critter" inside my home! O_O The worst I've ever had is a snake and a few birds - which I handled the snake better than having the birds in my house *shudders*

I'm thinking of getting a German Shepard once Anna moves out and takes her dogs with her. I love shepards and since I can't have a pygmy goat here in the neighborhood, I'll get a large dog instead ;)

Interesting tidbit:
"The "sixth sick sheik's sixth sheep's sick" is said to be the toughest tongue twister in the English language."

Spacebabie > new drawings? I'm holding you to that ...

Got a parking warning for being too close to the stop sign in front of the house. They're cracking down. Neighbor got one for having his car facing the wrong way. Can't fit both cars in front, no parking on the side street, no driveway, and the people next door ... never mind, it's too much of a pain in the butt to even mention. :P

Vampire Boy -- hmm.. well it really looks like cirmcumstantial evidence. So he was a vampire fan, *blinks*, what of it? I know tons of people who are vamp fans and some are blood drinkers or donors. Doesn't make them murderers. What real evidence links this boy to that murder?

If having books on vampires or looking at vampire websites makes you a murderer, lock me up! Geez...

He had books on vampires... that's their reason for trying him for the murder?

O_o... weird. And I'm not talking about the Goth boy wannabee.

Jan I’ll see your crazy bad Karma turtle woman and raise crazy magnet lady from the vet.

One of the dogs gets really panicky during thunderstorms and this is the one who has to be kept from the others cause he’ll get into fights. Well he tends to chew through doors unless we place him in the portable folding cage. Dad went to the vet to see if there is anything that will help keep him calm. This one lady suggested a shirt for dogs that had magnets woven in it and if you put it on him an hour before the weather turns yucky it will calm him down..

Where doe these people come from?

Something I have learned, never loan your father your Lain tape unless you have more than one.
Why? He got hooked on the series and after he returned the tape to me he wanted the second one, wich I don’t have. Well that is another animated series that he likes.

Fire Storm > I think you're missing that this kid was DELUSIONAL. And that is probably just the tip of his mental health iceberg.

Why doesn't this happen more often? Hard to say. There are people out there who think they are vampires. They even drink blood. But they tend (at least according to the bits I've read) seem to prefer less violent ways of obtaining a tipple.

RANITAGOYLE > The staff is working on a new series of Time Dancer. No date on when they expect to start releasing new eps.

And this has nothing to do with vampires or Time Dancer really, but I had a funny incident last night. We had a late night thunderstorm - all lightning, no rain. And it woke the dog's up. So I went to let Toby, the oldest one out. I'm not wearing my glasses, just get out of bed and shuffle down to the basement and there are two of my cats one at the feed bowl, the other perched on the back of the washing machine. Except the one on the back of the washer has a whole mouth full of big sharp teeth. (Please note that without my glasses I need a white cane). But even I can see that something isn't right. So I hustle back upstairs, trip over assorted stuff in the dark, grab my glasses and run back downstairs. And low and behold, it's an opposum.

I chat with it a bit and it doesn't seem to be inclined to go away on its own. So I put on a pair of leather gloves and with one hand on his bald and rat-like tail encourage him onto a broomstick and outside into yard.

Now that I think about it, I think he's probably been living down there for a while. One of the dogs has been going into tracker mode everytime she goes downstairs, but I thought it was because she was looking to play with my Siamese that spends most of his time hiding.

Point of this story? Even if you think you have strictly indoor pets - you never can count on what comes in from outside. Be sure to keep your pet's vaccinations current.

Have a good weekend everybody,

Even though this story makes me a little ill, I have to wonder why we do not hear about more of these happening.

I mean, here we have kids who can't really tell the difference between reality and fiction, shooting up places because they learned it in games, and doing other stuff they learned from movies (Trying to fly, ALA Harry Potter).

I mean, purely due to the ammount of vampire stuff out there, shouldn't there be alot more of this stuff happening?

:: tap..BANG .... thump, thump, thump...... SCRRRRRRRRIPP::

The roofers are here!! Very noisy.(*makes a note to remember not to use the bathroom with the skylite*)
The shingles came yesterday. They parked a conveyor crane in our driveway to transfer the bails of shingles from the truck to the roof. Today they're scrqaping off the old shingles and laying down a new all-weather barrier to go under the new
shingles. Their air compressor broke so they're using regular hammers. These guys drive nails through 3/4" plywood in just two strikes. One tap to set the nail one strong swing to drive it, just like in "Karate Kid 2."

Guhh... 90F outside, and just about zero wind. WHY??? This place shouldn't HAVE temperatures over 60F, EVER! *Whines* And because this is an island, the sea stores the heat, so it's frickin' STEAMING all night long, as well! *Sweat*

*Ehum* Right. Post. Slow CR these days...

Christine: I thought there was an asteroid scheduled this winter, too... Ah, well, I may have misread...

Josh: Oooh, did I touch a nerve, there? What's wrong with a guy smelling like hot chicks, anyway? Might indicate something, you know... };)

Rodlox: Really? I thought the American flag, as it is today, has been the same basic design since the late 1770s... I mean, if you can show me a date for when the final design was made (and I WON'T accept "the last star added" dates), I'll gladly admit being in error. As for the "Don't Tread On Me" flag - I thought that was just a local state flag, or something...

Spacebabie: Both are water signs... *Ponders this, and an utterly evil grin spreads on my face...* I am SOOOO not gonna say that out loud... This is, after all, a rated CR. };) Oh, and Starship Troopers: Roughnecks? *Grins* I haven't seen that DVD in far too long... Heck, in fact, I think it's been at least eight months now; I should watch that one again. (I so enjoyed bagging it at the G'01 auction... *Grin*)

Leo: Banging hammers... I think the heat must be broiling my brain, but that sounds remarkably dirty... Õõ

Well, that about sums up this post. Later, gang. I need something cold. Like, oh... oooh, hey, I got a bottle of wine in the fridge! *Ponders* Naw; better save it for the weekend; I hear it's gonna be even hotter then... :(

Off red?

I saw Austin Powers. It was groovy baby! Jes' below the quality of number two, and above the quality of number one. I can't get the image of Austin picking the mole with a stick out of my mind. Guess what else? there is a big rumor that number four is in the works. I would LOVE a number four. Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four Four.

In other news around the world a presidental order has been made to the entertainment community to bring back the following shows: Gargoyles, BeastWars, Monty Python's Flying circus, and the flying nun. Democrats shouted that this was another sick attempt to snatch votes up. However they do believe that enough people will be utterly horrified at the idea of the Flying Nun coming back that he will loose votes. When asked about this Mr. Bush replied that we needed to ask Mr. Cheney about it. We are not sure as of yet, but we believe that Mr. Bush can only speak those few words and may indeed be related to a parraot. When we went to ask John Cleese about this idea he had this to say:

JOHN: "NO NO GOD NO DON'T PUT ME BACK ON THAT SHOW I CAN'T TAKE THAT CHICKEN ANYMORE The chicken . . . hitting me on the head. . . . . no more chicken. god please no more CHICKEN!"

He latter went into a coma. When we confronted Mr. Spyder he told us that he was indeed looking for work where he didn't have to paint his face white for some stupid sequel movie.

My writing is going well. I'm re-editing a bunch of stuff. So It's going slow. I hate that. Also I need to start writing again. That way i can be happy! I can only be happy then!

And once I get 2 million dollars. . . .

****Mini Work Rant****
My 'In Box' is right there folks! So will you please stop putting notices next to it and start putting those notices IN it; that is why it is called an IN BOX after all.
****End****

DPH: "I wonder about all those people trying to save an endangered species and don't seem to care about human life" You mean the overpopulated human life that is slowly, and not-so-slowly, pushing all other forms of life on this planet out?
"water gun" ***Stephanie's eyes grow wide as she spots DPH shoot a Mr. DC look-a-like***
OOOOh! I want! ***Runs over to DPH and starts stroking the barrel, while humming*** 'T' is for 'Tank'/And 'T' is for 'Terror'/'K' is the 'K' for 'Killing in Error'.
Cyber-Sake for whoever knows where that is from.

Leo: Heat is un-Canadian. Now will someone please tell that to the heat.
"Was that a GARGOYLES related comment" Yes it was. You can tell because it fits the description in the 'Missing Persons' report.

Au revoir.

It is f-ing hot here in Va! Heat index is 105 with 86% humidity. Yuck!

We're in the final stages of the remodeling project. The new cabinets and countertops have been ordered and we've signed a contract. Still haven't decided on a floor though. It wil be either Congolium sheet vinyl or durastone tyles (these tiles come in simulated stone or simulated wood and cost twice as much as the sheet vynl) Every other day my mom comes home with new tile samples. I think she's already settled on one because she keeps bringing that one back. "I'm still not sure about the grey grout," she keeps saying. I stopped driving her to flooring stores last week. She has to drive herself now. :P

I recently finished creating a Gargoyles midi file for my web page. It sounsd good on my computer which has a wavetable sound card, but sounds crappy on my brother's computer which used the built-in sound on the mainboard whic probably is just FM synthesis. I haven't tested it on a Mac (Quicktime Musical Instruments?) but from my experience QMI falls on the quality scale somewhere between cheap FM and my mid-priced Turtle Beach wavetable. The best Synths are always outboard. [My dream is to get a Roland XV-5080 :)]

Happy Belated Birthday to Mara. :)

By the way, where did the topic of ostriches come from?

It turns out "Our" kittin wasn't "dipped." It just got the Frontline on the back of his neck (where the cat shouldn't be able to reach it) It was also only 5 wks old and came from the SPCA. It was probably abandoned and weened too early from its mother to develop it's immune system. Our real vet said it was probably a bacterial infection. :( Anyway that's good news about your baby.

I was in pain all day yesterday.
Sore elbow, pulled hamstring, razor burn on my leg, slept on my arm amd it was stiff and sore in the morning. I had multiple owies.

Had a lil problem with the DVD player yesterday. Everything was in black and white and Dad was ready to tear my brother a new one. ((he blamed his video game systems))) turns out One of the connecting wires was loose.

We watched Starship Troopers: Roughnecks, and I squealed every time I saw Greg W’s name.

Greetings from the center of gooey sappy love ... in other words, Coyote's house. ;)

(How can you tell? We can't get through a single line without smoochin'!!!!) ;)

<Coyote> We're startin' on our second week (in a row!!!) together for this period of time. The first week was much better than the second will be since the first week I didn't have to work! Of course, Ravyn's cute call to the store looking for headlight fluid and multiple transmissions certainly helped today! ;)

<Ravyn> We had a lot of ... well ... *fun.* Yeah, that's it. *Fun.* :) Starting with the fun new airport terminal in Detroit, which was nice to land at but really kind of strange to get to baggage claim (dark lights and psychedelic music! oooooh!). Then taking a walk on the Algonac boardwalk and checking out the river walk and the waterfront ... it's one of my favorite things to do, and the water's color is just stunning! (Plus the company wasn't that bad either ... ;) We even got to see a nice place to have a nice little wedding. (OMG, did I just say that?!?!)
After that it was a hot date at Comerica Park. Really cool, especially checking out the new ballpark there (pretty close to the BOB in atmosphere.) and the Tigers even won! Then we spent a weekend in Lansing checking out Coyote's old stomping grounds (aka MSU) and getting pictures of the engineering building and having a picture taken with Sparty. Then there was lots of love and happy stuff goin' on ... well, actually that was going on all week, but it bears mentioning, of course. (I never wanna leave!!!!)

<Coyote> Not much to add to that. We're just having lots and lots of fun, though like I said I wish I wasn't working this week ... ah well, at least I have something really nice to look forward to at home. :)

**insert approx. 10 minutes of distracted typing and more kissing than typing**

**insert approx. 10 minutes of just kissing with no typing at all**

<Ravyn> We're never gonna get this submitted, are we?

<Coyote> I'll do it right now. :)

Good news: My back is much better than I thought. I was able to stand about 1 hour and 30 minutes before feeling the knife in my back.

Bad news: How I discovered the good news. A friend of mine just broke with her boyfriend and needed to talk yesterday so I listened. I spent the 1st hour (starting around 9:00pm) sitting at my house, walked to her home, and then she kept talking until 11:30pm.

FS and LM > sorry to hear about your troubles. Moving's a pain even under the best of circumstances, and when it's under such duress and stress, ugh. Best of luck with the new place.

lain > best wishes for the kitty.

I nearly snapped twice in the last 18 hours. First a guy at work, a BIG guy, manic and agitated and irritable, rocking back and forth in one of the kitchen chairs for a solid hour and a half while he ranted on the phone to some buddy. Chair creaking and creaking and creaking (I was waiting, though, for the moment when it would squeal and simply fall apart and dump him on the floor). Had to crank up my Brian Setzer CD. Then, while I was trying to sleep this afternoon, I was repeatedly awakened by someone pounding on the door. Thought it was this obnoxious kid from Becca's class, whose style would be that if no one was home and answering, to come back and try again every 20 minutes. Turned out that it was not _all_ her; it was the UPS guy and the mailman responsible for at least a couple of the times. I was able to go back to sleep, fitfully, until the ice cream man stopped at the park across the street. Last straw.

Okay, that's enough griping from me. Got to write my column tonight and have no idea what it'll be about. Better think of something because Sabledrake's due out in a week.

Finally saw MIBII yesterday. Pretty fun. Felt a little rushed at the end. Odd to see Lara Flynn Boyle like that' I haven't paid much attention to anything she's done since she was good girl Donna in Twin Peaks.

Re gargoyle-fay crossbreeds: I've wondered about that on occasion myself, and even developed the notion (which I put to use in the Season Three TGS: Timedancer story, "A Tale of Two Gates") that such crossbreeds were the origin of brownies and other household spirits (the specific ones being used in the story, because of its French setting, being lutins, the French version of brownies). That notion was particularly inspired by the combination of brownies' nocturnal nature with their utter devotion to looking after a house and taking care of it: an adaptation of the "Gargoyles protect" tradition for beings that were not as big and strong as regular gargoyles and so could not take up the warrior path?

Stephanie, I would think Fay could breed with anything. Greg has mentioned they bred with humans and with ANIMALs, so breeding with a gargoyle would be gargoyle shouldn't be hard.

A human/fay breeding with a garg/fay, is probably possible because of the Fay genetics, but the child might be a mule and infertile... or like a New Olympian and settle into a fertile hybrid that can breed with other hybrids.

I was using this idea with Elisa, in a fan fic. In one of my universes, Coyote had more connections to the Maza family than just jumping the skin of papa Peter Maza. >^,,^< heh...

DPH: "birth control or getting yourself fixed so you can't become pregnant" Some people are not that smart. Most women who have an abortion are not thinking about the environment either; that was just an example of how being pro-choice is not a contrary stance to being environment-conscious.

lain: My boyfriend's kitten, Moose, used to be addicted to those Downy Dryer Sheets. It took us a while to figure out what was wrong with him. He used to act strangely (twitching and suddenly jumping four feet up for no reason) and would throw-up.

Strange idea that has been bugging me for years: Can Fay and Gargoyles crossbreed? After all, the Fay can breed with humans, and if one were to take a Gargoyle form, with their magic, wouldn’t it be possible?
Also, would a Gargoyle-Fay halfling be able to crossbreed with a Human-Fay halfling?

Au revoir.

I've used flea bath on young, stray kittens before, but a good thorough rinsing is a must afterwards. I usually flea bath (remember to keep the kitten occupied during the waiting period while the lather kills the fleas, DON'T let them lick!!!) then rinse and rinse and rinse... then give them a regular shampoo and conditioning, and dry them with a towel to a fluff.

Reading the instructions on a flea bath is important, some of them are not for kittens under 12 weeks, some are safe on 8 weeks and up, etc...

Your new baby looked old enough in the piccies for a regular flea shampoo.

Mild dishwashing soap will actually kill and wash off a lot of fleas. Dawn for instance. What you have to worry about is the eggs left behind. You have to re-wash the kitten every few days for a week or two to be sure you get the following generations.

Just soaking a kitten in warm water will drown a lot of fleas. Becareful to suds up their little heads with a mild soap, so fleas have no haven there. A nice non-pesticide thick lather will barrier the head from fleas. Comb the kitten while he/she is soaking, if it will let you. Some kittens will take a bath without too much fuss, others are little dervishes. note - Trim claws BEFORE the bath if you can.

I hope Charlie is doing better today.

Ambulence rides cost $150 for my area. It's cheaper to take a taxi.

Are you in a rural area? Most cities and large towns have emergency vet facilities. Call your vet and ask if there are any in your area. Even if you decide to wait, having the information for the future is good.

Lain > Yeah, the general rule is DON'T use flea dip on kittens - especially ones that are young and weak. And if you do - don't combine it with another stressful treatment like worming or a whole slug of vaccinations.

Tim Phipps > The one and only time I've been taken anywhere in an ambulance (life or death situation) I was presented with an enormous bill. (Or at least my insurance company was.) Paramedics might (and I emphasize might) be dispatched for an animal emergency depending on the circumstances, but it's doubtful that an ambulance service (which in many towns is private) will haul a critter anyplace unless it's in conjunction with a human emergency like a fire or car accident. And even then be prepared for an eye popping tab.

Less like a can of "chicken of the sea", for starters.

Lain:<the FLEA TREATMENT!> I was hoping that that wasn't it. That was what we suspected happened with our neighbor's kitten. It had all the simptoms you described (EVERY SYMPTOM) and they all started after it's first checkup at the vet, where it got dewormed and deflead. The sad thing is that the emergency vet didn't think that was it or he completly missed it. SHIT!!!!!! (not bothering to censor. I'm feeling a bit guilt sick) :::sigh::: :'(

P.S.: I know EMS mays seem a bit extreme, but we have had lots of cats around the farm, many have died with similar symptons. It's not unheard of times when ambulances transporting cats, dogs, pigs, and small calves to the vet ot even the hospital.

Kitten may have...
Allergic reaction to de-wormer or wrong dosage for it body mass.
Contact with pesticides household cleaners or other poisonous substance.
Viral or bacterial infection.

the FLEA TREATMENT!

it was a LEAVE IN PESTICIDE! no WONDER the poor guy is sick. i just washed him three times with soap, and i could smell the flea bath on him still. he was starting to be a little better.. but then he ate some and threw up again. i bet thats what it is. the wormer was sergeant's "worm-away" for kittens - and i couldnt find anything about side effects.

poor charlie! all this time, i bet hes been licking his fur and ingesting the flea stuff. :( hes all wet now and licking his fur more (sneaky way of gettin water into him :P) and i hope that helps. hes a little livelier.. though that might be because i just threw him in the tub :P
hes been more active in general for the past few hours.. which is good. he played a little and looked out the window at cars some. better than lying still for hours on end, anyways.

if he isnt even MORE significantly better by 8am tomorrow morning (or if he gets any worse tonight), i WILL skip class and take him to the vets.. no matter HOW much i cant afford it :P

speaking of.. if anyone would like to *koffkoff* commission artworks from me to help support charlie.. let me know, eh? i put in an application for a jewlery store and ive never done art for money but.. i cant afford 2 cats (and me) on 50$ a week :P

poor kitten :(

Lain: GET AHOLD OF VETERNARY MEDICAL MEDICAL ATTENTION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

If unable to contact vet, call for EMTs. Most ambulance companies in the U.S. don't mind transporting animals. They don't mind having something unusual to do. They still get paid the same.

Lain - DON'T PANIC!

First off, keep him hydrated. What worming medicine was used? Look up it up and see if this is a normal reaction or not. If he is not throwing up, it could just be that the diahrea (sp?) has dehydrated him. Give him wet food and plenty of water.

Take his temperature.

Check with your vet and if they don't bill immediately, take the kitten in to be checked. Check other vets, some may have a smaller charge for just a check up.

I just got home and am checking mail. E- me if necessary.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have to move.

LM's father gave us a week notice and due to our schedules, we have to move EVERYTHING right away.

Gside, could you please archive your MP3's in your eden account until I get back?
Thanx.

lain > What did you worm the kitten with?

Other advice > Take his temp. It should be about 101.5 -102.5F The link has instructions on how to temp a cat.

If temperature is up > take it to the vet.

If temp is normal and kitten hasn't perked up by tomorrow then a vet visit is called for.

If you haven't had a health check done yet then take the kitten in anyway. You haven't said how old it is but if it's more than 8 weeks, then it's old enough for first shots.
Some say 6 weeks is old enough, it depends on the vet.

Good luck.

hes had diarrhea, too. i'm going out for some pepto-bismal? my father has given it to his dogs and my stepmother to her two cats when they had upset stomachs. i need a syringe, too.. at the very least i can get some water into him :(

if he dies, he dies but.. im gonna try my best anyways. its 40$ just to SEE the vet, and i only have 30 so.. i guess this is the best i can do. hes only been sick like this since thismorning - thank goodness i didnt have class today or i wouldnt have noticed till it was too late. he drank a little catmilk a little while ago, and i managed to get a teeny bit of wet food in him.. which he hasnt thrown up yet. he seemed to perk up a little right after but now hes quiet again. aak! *sigh*
