Happy belated birthday, Mooncat and test results, Patrick!

Question: Did AOL kick all non members off of IM when they put out version 8.0 or am I just getting some weird error message (you've signed on too soon) just for kicks and giggles?
Thanks.

Congrats Patrick !!! :: hugs and chocolates ::

The Flavor Test - is there a list of possible flavors? I took it twice, got Cinnamon the first time, and Dark Chocolate the next. I'm one of those mercurial people I guess. *^_^* Maybe I"m supposed to be cinammon flavored dark chocolate, yay!

Feeling loads better today! Yay! Means I have to do all the chores I missed for the past two days... boo! hiss! sigh...

Well, if I get them done soon maybe I can work on my artwork.

Waiting for the room to wipe.

Thanks for the congrats to everyone who's given them. :)

Mooncat > Glad you're feeling better. You should stay away from that Scottish hamburger place, anyway. There's not a thing on the menu there that's good for you... they've even figured out how to make salads high in fat.

b9 > Hmm... I'm not sure whether to say "Bingo!" or shout "You sunk my battleship!"

Random fun with cable TV last night > Turned the SAP setting to Spanish while watching "Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone", and found it sounded like a Mexican soap opera. Found this also works with "Gargoyles" on Toon Disney.

Josh > "82. I will not shoot at any of my enemies if they are standing in front of the crucial support beam to a heavy, dangerous, unbalanced structure." - As a structural engineer, I like to add a corollary to that one:

82a. I will design my secret lair (and all other heavy, dangerous structures which are important to my diabolical plans) with solid foundations and framework featuring redundant load paths.

** Niamhgold enters **

I am also 32% Pick-upable and 79% lovable. Weird.

Bled my car brakes today, and they seem to be in tip-top condition (we replaced all four). And I taped everything from the soundtrack to "Queen of the Damned" to "Believe" so that I won't have to listen to more holiday music on the drive back to Baltimore tomorrow. Then it's two days there, and on New Years day I fly out for my *real* vacation--in warmer weather, hopefully! :)

Patrick: <I received notice from the state board that I passed the Professional Engineer's exam that I took back at the end of October.> Congrats!

Dezi: <I also found out the real reason that my great uncle broke his arm was that he was deer-hunting from a tree and got completely stoned and in his haze, fell out and the arm broke.> Sadly, I've heard that story from several different people ;)

Christine: <And as usual, I have to work.> But you get overtime! I know that's why I'm working on the eve ;) <I just keep telling myself it'll be worth it when I get the big check, even if it will have to go right to the credit card company> Those damn plastic people.

DPH: <I am pleased to present an updated version of the Art Site with the new logos added and a bonus of a brand-new page with previously unreleased pictures> Beautiful!

Gside: <I'm apparently dark chocolate> Great minds eat alike. <Good news for whatever man you find> And it's great for my health! ;) <He muys the recent ones from an Irish company called Mithril (www.mithril.ie).> Nice site, interesting pieces. <The early Balrog and Smaug versions don't impress me, but the Mithril stuff has some nice detail. Unfortunately he hasn't learned how to wash yet> Pics? <We'd buy up the Tri State supply of Froot Loops to get the complete set> I'd probably get stuck with all the Sams ;) I remember when they put all of the Talespin characters in cereal--I tried so hard for a complete set, but I got silly Molly across the board :( <Congratulations, though> Thanks. Though, sometimes I wonder if the whole art-subjectivity thing keeps some teachers from giving *anything* but A's and B's. Yeah, there are professors who hand out D's and F's even if you bust your arse, but there are others who seem too...timid. <Wooha> Hell yeah! <Loss of bladder control, or got too excited?> With Ivanny, it's a little of both. Like when we brought him to the comic convention and he saw Alex Ross. Oh. My. God. <Do you kow if the last disc counts as Death/Rebirth and/or End?> Sorry, I don't know. <It's off to (west center) New Hampshire for me tomorrow> Sorry ;) Maybe I'll run into you...I'm driving through there on my way home tomorrow (Monday). <as my mother's relatives are holding gifts hostage, under the pretense that they're too heavy to mail> How else are the New Hampshirites supposed to get people to visit us? ;)

DPH: <Good news: I came out with Mocha. Intense, rich, and a little complex, you're as tasty as they come> I have to agree. Mocha is my flavor of choice :)

Mooncat: <It really is perfect snow for making snow balls and snow men though...> Don't forget that carrot! You can't just have the balls and the men! ;)

Godiva: <Yum! You're cinnamon. Explosive and utterly red-hot, you're as tasty as they come."> Wow.

Warpmind: <Dragoon's fun, but Lavitz' combos are a BITCH, eh?> I liked the game a little while ago, but I feel out-of-love with it after awhile. The sad thing is, for some reason I never got as attached as I'd hoped to FFX. Is it just me, or did that game lose a lot of its RPG nature? <AND that the coffee's never been as good as since I started there a little over three months ago. :)> Never underestimate the power of morning java!

Spacebabie: <Are those caramels that are cappuccino flavored or cappuccino with caramel in it?> The latter. I've actually been using those Cappuccino instant-breakfast mixes, heating it with warm milk, and then dumping in caramel (and, on occasion, butterscotch) ice cream topping ;) It's so delightfully BAD ;) Maybe I should just add a scoop of ice cream and go the whole nine yards! WHEEEEEEEEEEE

Greg: <Sir Ian McKellen.> Just, darn. My roommate's going to explode.

Imzadi: <Meat meat meat...> Spam spam spam spam... <<<I'm French>>: I was referring to them as Surrender-Monkeys at dinner the other night.> Reminds me of when we were watching an early Muybridge film that showed the French military trying to mount horses, to which our teacher said, "This is why the French never won any wars" ;) <Does that work with Metroid Fusion?> It certainly should. Gameshark RULES. <What else would you have done?> Marketing analyst, or something included in publicity/marketing. <Christine?> Close. My mother. Christine got me Lilo and Stitch. Speaking of which, I really want to meet Dean Debois. <Soooooon...> And *my* witty response to this will wait till another day ;)

GB: <BTW, there are some folks from the NH Guard up here> If you get a chance, give them my holiday regards :) <I wonder where my next Christmas will be> Hopefully, in a warm place and surrounded by lots of friends/family.

b9 - That reeks of Futurism. That movement didn't last very long.

Hyperion: <It depends, do they taste good with chutney?> Perhaps not, but the Baltimore homeless people do.

Adios

I don't stop by here much any more; I used to read the room quite a lot, especially to see the comments on the latest TGS eps. With TGS slowed almost to a standstill, s8.org slowly fell out of my round of sites.

But I just came across a VERY cool web site that I thought I'd share with the people here:

http://www.angel-mask.com/ (Or click my name)

That's the web site of a woman in Oregon who makes *seriously* cool leather masks -- think Carnival in Venice. Plus, she's a Gargoyles fan! Check her costumes section for a very cool gargoyle costume she made.

Anyway, I hope some of you find the site interesting. I know I did. Ta.

Saw "Catch me if you can" today. I hate Leo and I still really liked this movie. A definite must see if you like The Pretender.

Just kind of hung out the rest of the day. Had to take my little bro to the library and now I'm just kind of hanging with him watching him play Metroid Prime. Beautiful game.

Silverbolt: <<At least he didn't say anything about the art side of it>>: No, the art was gorgeous. I'm always in awe of talented artists, since its something I can never do.

Green Baron: <<I must wash thoroughly as I have just used French>>: LOL!

b9: Are you talking?

Hyperion: <<snide commentary on a current political/social issue>>: Dude, that was deep. You should go to Berkeley. <<You all get no points for originality>>: Screw you, hippy! <<None of you get the case of Turtle Wax>>: That's okay, all I really want is duct tape. <<I mean, why'd they change it?>>: Because they didn't want all those hippies smoking weed. <<like that will ever wor.. *looks up in the CR*...what the>>: That particular summons works in this CR. <<The most wildly misnamed SUV of all time>>: As my roommate says: "there's nothing *SUB* about it". <<do they taste good with chutney>>: No idea. What's chutney? <<There's a meeting of the Rainbow Coalition down the hall.>>: ? <<cheese-eating surrender-monkeys>>: I can forgive eating cheese. There's some good cheese. <<no one's cared about the inner city *period* for quite some time>>: That's because they don't pay any taxes and they don't vote. <<I can't wait for the day when he switch over the fuel cell technology>>: Except for the minor fact that car companies don't want to develop fuel cells. <<put lain on so I can continue flirting with her behind your back. Seesh..some people are so uncooperative>>: Is it really "behind your back" if its in a public CR? <<if she ever gets done fornicating>>: Is one ever really finished fornicating, except when one kicks the bucket? <<Witty/insightful Babylon 5 quote here>>: That was your best one yet!

Mooncat: <<I love drugs>>: Drugs are good! <<never felt like someone took an iron crow bar to my ribs and stomach before>>: Bad surgery? <<Jealous MUCH>>: Well you should be. <<If you have a spare moment, feel free to e-mail me any glaring bits of bad grammer or mispelling you catch>>: The one that sticks to mind was "Physognomy", which is so not a word that I laughed. As for the rest, well, there were many 8-) <<we will strive for excellence in the rest>>: The story definitely works. <<just opened them Christmas Eve, as that was my B-day>>: You probably got the shaft when you were a kid. Damn "oh, we'll just give you one *big* present for your birthday and christmas" - which was then just a regular present. My uncle had that.

And with that, I leave you.

82. I will not shoot at any of my enemies if they are standing in front of the crucial support beam to a heavy, dangerous, unbalanced structure.

Ugh I am so bored right now. So bored I don't even want to go clean. I've gotten hooked on this cartoon called Inuyasha on Cartoon Network and I spent all week looking forward to the next episode and now I've watched it and I don't know what to do. Now some other anime is on, something with blue zombie people. No me gusta zombies. *shivers*
Now I guess I'll sit back and wait for my friends to get off work. Maybe we can go hang out at Steak and Shake.
Wow I am bored.

Feeling Better! Gods I love drugs :: happy sigh :: civilization is an abundance of apirin or pain killer of choice.

Thanks everyone for their b-day wishes and the sympathy. Greenbaron, :: hugs :: - Silverbolt, I hear and obey. As for suing someone, I'm not entirely sure if it was food poisoning or a really horrible mutated strain of flu. A girl friend of mine just told me there is one going around right now with the same symptoms. I dunno, I've had flu before, and it never felt like someone took an iron crow bar to my ribs and stomach before. I've been thrown by a horse, and it didn't feel a tenth as bad as this. yeeks... :: surpressess memory of last 42 hours ::

If I find out it was food poisoning from a specific source, I don't know if I can sue, as I'm now almost over it (or at least the pain meds let me believe that) and I didn't bother going to a hospital for it, thus no documentation. That's necessary, isn't it? I am pretty sure it was food poisoning, as there were no other flu like symptoms of sneezing or coughing, or anything remotely cold like with it. Whatever it was, I will chalk it up to experience and use it in my writing.

Dezi - still loving the rawhide toy *^_~* thank your puppy again!

Josh - Ooo... Maui... Jealous MUCH! Just the idea of beaches and warm water... sigh... Thanks for the comments on GNL. I'll go over it again to see if I can catch the missed edits. If you have a spare moment, feel free to e-mail me any glaring bits of bad grammer or mispelling you catch. I'm afraid this episode didn't have quite the same scrutiny and revision the first one did, do to the looming holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas, but we will strive for excellence in the rest.

Leo - also, thanks for the remarks on the new ep. Feedback is very appreciated.

Opening Presents on Christmas Morning 2am -- yes, I was awake *^_^* so I opened presents! I was so good, because I could have just opened them Christmas Eve, as that was my B-day. And it works for me as I usually sleep late, only that morning I had to cook the Christmas Meal for my Mom and deliver it to her by lunch time. gah... no sleep really bites. So at least I got to open my presents when I was in a relatively good mood *^_^*

b9 - Head Injury? Well I guess that could account for the glaring bad taste of your website. Poor thing, I suggest professional pyschiatric help for your delusions. Hopefully someday you can be cured.

And that, for now, Is All She Wrote... !

Okay I'd better make this fast. The wind blowing so hard outside that the powers likely going to go out. And doing that in mid-post really sticks.

Bud-Clare<It's good to be unpredictable> Most over the that's true. You should see the look on my friends faces when I shaved my head one day.

Green Baron- That's too bad about the MOS change, you'd think that they'd make room, but if things are going the way they are the two of us may end up in North Korea.

Warpmind<Lavitz' combos are a BITCH> Tell me about it, I like the spear but sometimes the moves are too fast and I end up getting spanked.

Sir Ian McKellen- The man just like being very powerful characters.

Josh<Skeletons? Me?> Like I say to everyone, "Don't think I don't know, because I DO!" You'd be surprised how many people get nervous when I say that in serious tone of voice.

Uh-oh lights are flashing.

Oh, yes, thanks to all that pointed out the easiest way to get a tank into Tokyo is to drop bombs or something first. You all get no points for originality. None of you get the case of Turtle Wax.
DPH does however receive +10 points for the prisoners idea. That's some good thinking.

Gside><enev old New York was once New Amsterdam> Yeah...I mean, why'd they change it? I can't say...

DPH><I summon Daniel Johnson with the challenge of encouraging people.> Yeah...heh...like that will ever wor.. *looks up in the CR*...what the...?!

Josh><I feel your pain.>Thanks

<I thought the San Francisco Treat was homeless people> It depends, do they taste good with chutney?
<the fact that its a STAR> Posh-posh. It's a stupid little yellow dwarf. yawn. The fact that it's a star isn't all that impressive, for the simple reason that most people can't grasp the sheer magnitude of it. It's when you see a picture of a X1 class solar flare and the size of earth to scale that you start to realize just what kind of monstrosity we're orbiting.
<Meat meat meat...>There's a meeting of the Rainbow Coalition down the hall.
<I was referring to them as Surrender-Monkeys>That's "cheese-eating surrender-monkeys"

Green Baron><I wasn't commenting on your cracks>Oh good. I can still like you then.
<so no one really cared about generations of chidlren in the inner city who were being stomped on by the Teacher's Unions> Very true. Actually, no one's cared about the inner city *period* for quite some time.
<Still, I don't like the sound of an area that lilly white that anyone minorities are looked upon with suspicion> It's not quite that bad. Although, yes, minorities are a bit of an oddity where I live. But then again, so is anyone driving a sedan not made in Germany. <shrug>comes with the territory.
<will soon chuck our firendship with that rogue state> not until we don't need the oil, so don't hold your breath. Personally, I can't wait for the day when he switch over the fuel cell technology and can just leave that whole area to squabble among themselves like kids in the world's biggest sandbox.

Gunjack><Yeah, we're back>Good, now put lain on so I can continue flirting with her behind your back. Seesh..some people are so uncooperative.

b9> apparently you're not fully recovered from the aforementioned head injury. Your mixing of the spiritual and mundane smacks of some New Age preacher or a terminally whacked out Christian trying to randomly convert people.
I, out of a morbid sense of curiosity, visited your website and must concur with your assessment as "killer", in that it made me want to track down and horribly slaughter whoever made it in the name of good taste. One is forced to wonder if you were still in a comatose state when you commissioned the design of that waste of good electrons. I would find your "wisdom" saddening, if it weren’t for the fact that you're probably paying for the web hosting. Adding to my mirth is your supplied e-mail of "kadaver", which wasn't quite what I was expecting from a right-wing god-peddler. But the very best news of the night was borne when I saw that your registration was due to expire in March. I might suggest that you let it go quietly into that good night and spare yourself the embarrassment of being laughed at by anyone with the mental capacity of a five-year old.
<God Bless You with discernment> In fact, he has. Which is why I can say, with absolute assurance, that you, sir, should probably avoid posting your particular brand of claptrap again, lest I loose upon you one of our most religiously prolific members (if she ever gets done fornicating, that is) who will happily dismantle any case your try to build to support your brand of zealotry.

Bud-Clare> <<That was beyond nice and well into scary; you harassed a random passer-by. :P>> Sorry if that bothered you. I guess I felt you needed more compliments and I still stand by my opinions.

<<No, I'd just look really miffed for awhile...>>
Which is why I wouldn't do that around you.

Sobotka> <<Not to poke in where I may not be wanted, but why are you so sour on Christmas?>> Lots of bad memories. Very bad time of year and all the false cheer. I did actually ahve a good Christmas here. First it has been my only workday off since I arrived in Kosovo, and it will be my only full day off (if you don't count I ahve Sundays off) until I return to Germany.

I wonder where my next Christmas will be.

<<Man, I know you've been a touch cynical in the past (from what I recall reading your posts and RPs),>> Most was in good fun, but yes I did use RPs to vent out my dislike of a lot of known figures.

<<I mean, I know it may not be any of my beeswax, but what's thrown sand in your engine, dude?>> As I said before a lot fo bad Christmas memories, plus my father was telling me of how they celebrated Christmas in his Navy days. I actually foudn it rather amusing, like Mr. Garreson's song :)

Kathy> Christmas was better than most I've had. I ahd soem roast duck and egg nog, but I have to watch that as I need to lose weight. I also got a Tom Calncy novel form an Army buddy. It was a Secret Santa thing so I don't know who. The other present was a towel.

<<But you knew that. Me - I'm looking forward to Palm Springs in January.>> I'm looking forward to a little more of Europe and NYC and Canada in June.

Mooncat> ::hugs:: I hope you feel better.

Gside> I now will start book 3.

DPH> <<Prisoners having cable is stupid, but they should have access to visit a library (said library wouldn't have to be inside the prison).>> Library yes, but it shoudl be in a prison, since they shoudln't be outside the prison complex unless tehy are contracted out to do some labor, and they should have 14 hour work weeks if not more.

Public schools would be good if they weren't failing so many children. Yes, some are good, but mainly these are suburban public schools. The ones who really need the good education and the ticket to opportunity are in the cities and out in the poor rural areas. They are most in need of challenges. I was lucky to have my private schooling. A lot of kids in New Orleans aren't.

Hyperion> <<As far as I'm concerned, I'm only engaging in good-natured kidding.>> I wasn't commenting on your cracks. I knew they were joking.

<<The elimination of the "Really Great Society" programs of the last 30 years? The depressing thing is not that the schools are so screwed up right now, it's that it took about three decades to get them this way and will probably take an equal amount of time to fix them, and without the old, highly educated people from the pre-1970's covering for the nitwits in the meantime. Interestingly enough, education is a small subplot in "Atlas Shrugged">> Very true. The publci schools were in trouble in the 70s, but the Teacher's Unions are very powerful. Besides, the suburbs had good schooling, so no one really cared about generations of chidlren in the inner city who were being stomped on by the Teacher's Unions.

<<Actually in the part of PA I'm in, if you see someone of black or Hispanic origin walking around without some sort of landscaping tool, it's generally a good idea to call the cops.>> That's mildly disturbing. In New Orleans, most Hispanics are actually middle and upper class and mainly live in the suburbs, though when they first left Honduras they were poorer, but the opportunities are there if you want them.

Still, I don't like the sound of an area that lilly white that anyone minorities are looked upon with suspicion.

<<Russians are investigating whether the Harry Potter books incite religious hatred. Apparently some woman in Moscow feels that they do.>> I fail to see that at all.

<<After all, according to some people, the reason there are terrorists all over the world is because of poverty, people insensitive to their plight and Hollywood (ooh...those evil American movies).>>

And Hollywood fawns oevr Sadaam, the morons. Poverty does lead to balming someone for your poverty, so they blame the US. Its a good ploy for many leaders who should rightfully be impriosned for their misrule, like Saudi Arabia, and I hope we will soon chuck our firendship with that rogue state.

Niamhgold> <<That's cool...handmade or commercial??? Commercial card, but handwritten. BTW, there are some folks from the NH Guard up here.

Spacebabie> <<It was amazing when I experienced my first and only white Christmas in Midland.>> In Dubya's home ;)

Imzadi> <<It goes beyond that. People don't just want privacy so they can occasionally fracture the law. If I've never been convicted of a crime, then why should I have to have my purchases tracked, my phones bugged, and my innocence questioned?>>

Well, i do prefer the Government that governs best is one that governs least. Besides, invasion of privacy is expensive.

<<Or we could just kill all the poor people in Los Angeles 8-) And Maxine Waters.>> I would prefer to give them a chance, but if they don't take it let them starve.

<<Once something's been approved by the gov't, its no longer immoral! ;-)>> What's sacry is that some people actually base their morality on the Government. I prefer amorality to Government-based morality.

<<True, but it also means that no one has a right to stop you.>> Parents can when children are under age or adults still sponging off mom and dad.

<<Really? So then all black people are poor?>> Far from it. 2/3 of balcks are middle class and better and the majority fo welfare recipients are white, but that is teh standard propaganda, like Hillary Clinton accusing Republicans of exploiting race. That makes as much sense as Hitler condemning French anti-semitism.

<<Great idea. You pay for it ;-)>> I wish that I could. The poor knowledge of Georgraphy by the average American is embarrasing.

I now bid aideu to my fellow CR dwellers, and I must wash thoroughly as I have just used French.

*Plods in holding his stomach* Ugh, too many chocolates! Why did they have to be so tasty?

Josh> <<Great story, congrats to all who wrote it. Excellent plot, even if it all just leads up to massive orgies in the near future 8-) I think you could stand a few more editors, though, as I spotted grammar and spelling mistakes all over, and a few words that appeared to be made up.>> *phew* At least he didn't say anything about the art side of it.

Mooncat> <<crawls in, shaky and weak from a bout with food poisoning>> Oh no! Mooncat I demand u get better right this instant. Plus since you got food poisoning and it wasn't your fault I suggest you sue someone, everyone's doing it! ;P

Spacebabie> <<I still haven’t seen the New Lord of the Rings movie>> Shame on you! <<books on how to get published>> You mean there are such things?

Well folks, I have returned. A bit more tanned than usual, a bit more well read, a bit more knowledgeable in the ways of programming and Metroid Fusion.

I hope everyone had a great X-mas. I know I did.

****Trip Log*****

Day 1: After a 6-hour flight sitting next to my brother (those 20 minutes during takeoff and landing when he can't use his game boy make him REALLY annoying), we arrived in Maui to 80-degree weather. Yay! We got to the hotel and checked in, only to discover that the room I'm sharing with Alex featured one large bed instead of the two we were promised. Doh! Rollaway time (hope they don't charge us for it, bastards). We unpacked, walked around, had some cocktails (my first Mai-Tai (sp?)), and later off to dinner at this awesome grill. Went to bed early because the travel and time change had exhausted us. Dad can't get online, so it looks like we're SOL there.

Day 2: Spent most of today hanging out at the pool reading. Little bro went for scuba lesson. I'm almost done with LotR: TTT and I went for this killer massage this afternoon. I discovered that resort massages are far more expensive than the normal ones, which I already thought were overpriced. We came back to the room to discover that the reason Dad couldn't get online was because he plugged the phone cord into the ethernet jack. Doh! Once that was solved, I plugged right in. Having a location in AOL called "Maui" is really cool :-P

Day 3: Went into town and had a great breakfast. We also got some cool shirts at one of the nearby stores. Then we went to the Maui Ocean Center (the local aquarium). It was beautiful. They had lots of sharks and rays, so I was happy. Got some great photographs. Finished both LotR and the new Star Wars book, Destiny's Way.

Day 4: Today we veged. There is no other word for it. From 11 until 3 we sat out by the pool and read books (except for my bro, he played with his game boy advance). After 3 I decided I'd been baking long enough (anyone who's seen me knows how dangerously pasty white I am) I headed back to the room. I started the 4th Harry Potter book when we sat down at the pool and got through 600+ pages of it. Will finish tomorrow. It's very funny, and I can't wait until it gets made into a movie. It's a bit long, so I'm hoping they'll split up the book into two movies, that's really the only way to cover all the cool stuff that happens. Had dinner at this really good French restaurant that my parents ate at 15 years ago.

Day 5: Little bro went scuba diving today and my parents went to look at other hotels around the island for a return trip next year (they're not too happy with this one, who's name I won't mention). So I got to sleep in. Yay! When I finally woke up around 1030, I finished off Goblet of Fire. Good book. Nifty ending. A definite recommend. After that was done I started back on Beginner's Guide to C, which I put down to read these novels. I'm starting at the beginning so I can fully absorb it all. So far I'm not too concerned. It was written in 1994, so I hope its not too out of date. But so far, my favorite line is "The demand for C programmers today is high, and THERE IS NO END IN SIGHT TO THAT DEMAND. Laughable, no? Well, I found it funny.

Day 6: Well, we are home. A shorter flight this time (though according to my brother, it's 7 hours with the time change 8-)). Good vacation. My parents can take me to Hawaii any time.

***END TRIP LOG***

And now for the moment everyone's feared: the catch-up post!

Flavor: I'm mocha! You have frappio for my bunghole?!

Bud Clare: <<That's terribly unoriginal; I hear it all the time>>: Maybe, but it was the first time I'd heard it. <<That's normal for you>>: Hey! <<You genuinely misread posts at least once a week, and it's like pulling teeth trying to get you to understand that you have no idea what's going on.>>: There is a reason for that. By the time I see that I've made a mistake, I generally have forgotten what I was talking about in the first place. I do this with Gside all the time. Thus the argument continues, as I continue to lose cognition of what happened previously. Note this doesn't happen with anything that's actually important, but CR arguments don't warrant that label, as you can well imagine. <<I'm sure that if I'm wrong about that, you'll jump right in to correct me>>: Of course you are right ;-) <<Really? When?>>: For this response I actually bothered to go back to my last post and find out what we were talking about, but I'm not really willing to go further. So I'll just assure you that I was paying attention at some point 8-) <<I do have some rather strong opinions on the subject of locking baby cows in small boxes for months on end>>: As you should. <<He'll probably crash the whole server>>: I will not! <<I think that I need to hurt you now.>>: Seriously, what kind of units are those?!

Grey Wolf: Welcome.

Green Baron: <<the Presidnet of my Fraternity was a Conservative Jew and whenever he got exasperated, he would say, "Jesus!">>: It's an appropriate curse ;-) <<The only thing more disgusting is if a woman uses chewing tobacco>>: I've never known a woman to do such a disgusting thing. <<I doubt they're as strict in private>>: They'd have to change to be shacked up with 8 other wives ;-) <<Revel's a twig, eh>>: Since Revel threatened to beat me, I'll not comment here. <<Bud-Clare is not some left-wing drum beating hippy>>: yay! <<Don't forget beautiful, considerate, honest, and huggable>>: I know plenty of smart, attractive women that eat meat. <<down to accpetable levels of corruption, like we have in Louisiana>>: I wouldn't call the corruption in LA "acceptable" 8-) <<Personally, I don't like lobster.>>: Then you are missing out, my friend. <<Schools need at least five years teaching Geography and three for Etiquette>>: Great idea. You pay for it ;-) <<its probably because of Bush and not because of the law itself>>: Except that the law IS unconstitutional. <<I can't wait until The patriot Act hits the Supreme Court>>: What scares me is that the law itself makes people afraid to challenge it. <<Because you like to drive fast, right?>>: It goes beyond that. People don't just want privacy so they can occasionally fracture the law. If I've never been convicted of a crime, then why should I have to have my purchases tracked, my phones bugged, and my innocence questioned? <<disorganzied clusterf*ck>>: LOL! <<I imagien some here support FDR's comments about America being a Protestant nation where Jews and Catholics are only tolerated>>: I don't support it, but as a jew it certainly looks true to me. <<This is why I don't buy American too much, well that and I hate Unions>>: Fortunately for me, Daimler bought Chrysler, so now when I buy a jeep I can say I'm buying German 8-) <<when no one in the Office was looking>>: The best time to do it! I usually just read fics off the monitor, though I confess after a long time it does get harsh on the eyes. <<He may give you a bunch of penguins for Christmas>>: She'll have to come to CA to get a monkey. <<He'll probably have his snide comments ready for you when he returns to post>>: Nah, I couldn't think of anything. <<if we decide to lay the smack on Sadaam>>: Giving him drugs doesn't sound like a very good idea. <<First thing we need to do is cut Maxine Waters into small pieces and reditribute her to all the poor families in Los Angeles>>: Or we could just kill all the poor people in Los Angeles 8-) And Maxine Waters. <<there is a mentality that just because something is legal means its ok>>: Don't be ridiculous. Once something's been approved by the gov't, its no longer immoral! ;-) <<just because you have freedom to do something doesn't mean you should>>: True, but it also means that no one has a right to stop you. <<prisoners have cable>>: That is just sick. They shouldn't even have TV. <<welfare reform is declared racist>>: Really? So then all black people are poor?

Mooncat: Happy B-day. <<GNL>>: Great story, congrats to all who wrote it. Excellent plot, even if it all just leads up to massive orgies in the near future 8-) I think you could stand a few more editors, though, as I spotted grammar and spelling mistakes all over, and a few words that appeared to be made up. <<Pot -- I got a Crock Pot, a Fondue Pot, and a special nonstick Pasta Pot>>: LOL!

Gside: <<you should have been able to tell it was a discussion about discrepencies and which Faramir was from which source>>: Yes. <<Then why are you looking at C?>>: Because the research team I'm working with next semester works in C, and I need to know it 8-) <<you really do have a keeper>>: Keep her. <<as a bonus, no really uncomfortable place>>: There are others. <<Without any of the 5 long posters I enjoy lying to>>: You've been lying all this time? You bastard! <<Level the buildings on either side first>>: That was my idea! <<I'm as tasty as they come (good news for my theoretical woman>>: A VERY theoretical woman. <<Good news for whatever man you find>>: My witty response to this will wait till another day. <<he hasn't learned how to wash yet>>: It's not hard at all. I'll get you the names of the products tomorrow. <<I was slightly more reserved on my receipt>>: Why am I not surprised?

Fire Storm: <<I am one of those picky little f%&s that like sleep every day>>: Amen! <<if I EVER need one of those, I am getting one with all wheel steering, and enough power to pull my CAR>>: I'm just going to fix myself into my jeep. <<I mean, no back seat to make out in>>: On the other hand, its a lot easier to !@#$, just spin around and face your partner. <<Are you saying that the movie was lacking in plot?>>: No, he's saying the movie had NO plot 8-) <<The new US army policy: Attack NON-US journalists>>: Damn commies.

Niamhgold: <<kill-me-I'm-bored 9-hour drives>>: They don't seem to get any better when you do them with family. <<I know my GPA will suffer with the three I'm waiting for now>>: Don't be so sure. <<I wish somebody had warned me>>: What else would you have done? <<welcome to Colonel Spigot's Prison for Really Bad People>>: If this is a prison for really bad people, I'm never reforming! <<I found that I couldn't live without meat >>: I bet. <<soda, man?! What were you thinking>>: Don't know how he survived. I know I couldn't. <<find a Faramir in my bowl of Froot Loops>>: I imagine he'd need a wash after that. <<I got penguin-covered pajamas!>>: Christine? <<go back to getting lei-ed>>: Soooooon...

Heather: <<if anyone ( like Imzadi) would care>>: Glad to hear you're doing well.

Jaden: <<after we find out what skeltons are in your closet>>: Skeletons? Me?!

Patrick: <<Just finished drilling holes to run 100 feet of ethernet wire... and it's alive, ALIVE>>: Why didn't you just go wireless? No drilling required. <<would-be evil overlords out there who didn't get you own Carribean island from Santa this year>>: I'm staying here in HI and conquering it 8-) I will then override every Gathering committee and host it here. <<gift cards for Best Buy and Borders, some very nice wallet-size portraits of dead presidents>>: Those truly are the best presents. <<here I thought it was called "Boxing Day" because the day after Christmas was when you box up the stuff you don't want and take it back to the store>>: I one-upped you. I didn't even know there WAS a boxing day 8-) <<I passed the Professional Engineer's exam>>: Congrats! That's so cool!

DPH: <<I have a mouse problem - I've caught 6 in the past few days and there is still one around>>: I thought you were talking about your computer mouse! <<What separates your weakest troops from your best troops besides which weapons are used>>: Skills. <<I would expect all troops would be trained roughly equally according to function and the incompotent and semi-incompotent ones would be kicked out so they couldn't become your weakest troops>>: True, but some people are naturally better at certain skills than others. Some have great aim. Some are good at throwing their weight around. <<I wonder how long your catch-up post will be>>: This long. <<What's the politically correct way to say "Merry Christmas"?>>: Um, Merry Christmas. <<Firing a black female teacher = instant invitation for lawsuit>>: I hate that. This country has serious defects. <<millimeters per millisecond>>: Its an equivalent measure. So why bother? <<I came out with Mocha. Intense, rich, and a little complex, you're as tasty as they come>>: We're both Mocha!? Twisted.

Leo: <<here's where Josh is going to bost about how OS-X has a "System Restore" disk with an option to "restore in place" so you don't have to reinstall all your applications>>: I don't have to gloat, you're doing it for me.

Tony Elliot: <<Would cigars be a turn on or turn off?>>: Personally I think smoking is gross. Smoking anything. <<you’d enjoy helping people kick that nasty oxygen addiction>>: "I'm going to deprive you of your working relationship...with oxygen".

Revel: <<I happen to think I have a nice ass>>: You spend a lot of time admiring your ass? <<Why do we need an intro to how to do this?>>: Because the people in the advanced class aren't well trained ;-) <<I have a great excuse for being the way I am>>: Southern? <<watch out for sharks, they bite.>>: I bite back.

Spacebabie: <<I need stuff to throw at idiots>>: Use rocks. They hurt and they're commonly available. <<Not me but someone evil and who is good at computers *pokes Josh*>>: "Good at computers"? <<Yah but this is cheaper.>>: Gside is referring to yet a third definition.

Stephen: <<What about having breakfast first, or waiting for everyone else to wake up?>>: Don't be ridiculous. <<Go get lei-ed, man>>: No, that part comes when I get back. <<haunika(?)>>: Such a goy. I've never seen it spelled that way. <<Gameshark enhancer>>: Does that work with Metroid Fusion?

Jan: <<So far, there have been no fatalities>>: What kind of a family gathering is that!?

Kathy: <<I'm taking the day off from the 602 things I have on my "Honey Do" list (and you thought only guys had those)>>: I'm developing selective reading skills in advance. <<you are one lucky pup. But you knew that>>: Yes, I do. And I feel it, too. I was just commenting to my brother that we are such spoiled brats 8-)

Hyperion: <<Don't they understand that I hate kids?>>: I feel your pain. <<reading your post is like digging up ancient history>>: Paleontology for the CR 8-) <<Any SUV. Even one>>: Godzilla vs. Excursion? <<I am baffled as to how an foreign power would drive a tank down the streets of say>>: First, firebomb them and flatten all the wooden houses. Then a tank is easy. <<"the San Francisco treat">>: I thought the San Francisco Treat was homeless people. <<It should also give you an appreciation of the kind of energy output or sun is capable of>>: Actually, the fact that its a STAR is enough to do that 8-) <<L33cher! I wi11 own3rz j00!>>: I'm almost done leeching for a while. I'll come back in a year and get all the new versions ;-) <<I sit down to a dinner of meat, with meat sauce, a side of meat, a meat milkshake to drink and some sweetmeats for dessert>>: Meat meat meat... <<I'm French>>: I was referring to them as Surrender-Monkeys at dinner the other night.

Warpmind: <<in the middle of nowhere out in the North Sea>>: They live on a houseboat?

okay, hopefully this doesn't crash anything!

81. If I am fighting with the hero atop a moving platform, have disarmed him, and am about to finish him off and he glances behind me and drops flat, I too will drop flat instead of quizzically turning around to find out what he saw.

For those of you who are interested, the new actor to take the place Richard Harris left in the role of Dumbledore has been announced...

Sir Ian McKellen.

And all I have to say is talk about a resume. Gandalf, Magneto, Richard III, now Dumbledore. While I haven;t yet read the HP books or seen the movies, I can appreciate how much Ian is getting around in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy circle.

Let's just hope he doesn't end up being typecast.

FYI, another actor rumored for a while to be filling Richard harris's shoes was Christopher Lee (Saruman, Dracula, Count Dooku). Pure rumor though. As we all know, Christopher Lee can never play good guys or else the universe will collapse.

:: crawls in, shaky and weak from a bout with food poisoning ::

Ooo... thankes Dezi... give your dog a hug from me. I love rawhide toys =) They make such a satisfactory skitter sound when you bat them across the kitchen linoleum. *^_^*

But I'll play with it tomorrow. today I'm all done in.

It was either the fried chicken from the grocery store, or the quarter pounder with cheese from the evil land of the golden arches... but something poisoned me but good yesterday.

Today has been a misery of pain, tossing cookies, fever, and more pain... coupled with total loss of energy and more pain.

:: paw paws the air weakly ::

so I am just checking messages for now. real posts later. I hope.

:: drops to floor, panting for breath, and tries to ignore how much breathing hurts ::

bye for now

Sorry for the double post but my dog just informed me she wanted Mooncat to have one of her cyber rawhides as a birthday present. She has now bridged the gap between cats and dogs.

My dog has to be one of the strangest creatures on the earth. We just had a five minute "fight" over the three rawhides she got for Christmas. I made the mistake of taking her rawhide pretzel and she went nuts and barked at me and shoved her nose into my forehead until I gave it back.
...Then again, I just instigated a five minute fight over rawhides with my dog.

My only disapointment was that I thought we were going to see the flashback with Golem finding the ring and killing his cousin, but it didn't happen and I thought they were going to show it, but i guess not (maybe in the next film?)

Mooncat> It's your birthday??? *showers you in glittery type stuff* Well have a great day with all that snow *Mutter* lucky Americans, why can't we get snow over here?

Had a Good Christmas Woke up and made a hot beverage of coffee and cocoa. We had breakfast of baked goods and fresh fruit…and mimosas. Mom gave me my adult stocking...full of lotto scratch cards, a swizzle stick, a small bottle of Amaretto, liquor filled chocolates and non adult candies of Rochette’s ,chocolate rose, chocolate orange, and a tin or hard candies in the shape of fruits.

Great Prezzies: A lot went into my bathroom: Bubble bath products, perfume, stuff for my hair, beauty tools, and make up. Electronic goodies: Homedics paraffin spa, lava lamp and my new HP scanjet 2300...a scanner that works with the computer!!!! Books: The new Xanth novel and books on how to get published and markets where I can publish and soft stuff: A teddy bear, new purse, mouse pad, and dainties.

Dinner was great. The turkey was nice and juicy...dad salted it with mom’s new Salt grinder, technically the same food we had at Thanksgiving except we had peas and pearl onions instead of broccoli and a Dutch apple pie for dessert.

Today is my parents 31st anniversary…they are on a day cruise.

I still haven’t seen the New Lord of the Rings movie

*Warpmind strides in, looking smug, conspiratorial and slightly evil.*
Hi, gang. I promised you a post later, when I made the Top Ten this week... and this IS later... :P
In other news, I now run a country. See my link for details. };)

Jaden: Dragoon's fun, but Lavitz' combos are a BITCH, eh? :P

About movies... Haven't gotten to see Harry Potter OR Two Towers yet... but I hope they're both running when I get back to the city come January. (I am presently at my parents' place - which is in the middle of nowhere out in the North Sea...) Woe is me. But there's a good miniseries based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Lost World" on today. :)

Oh, and I think my position at work - ye advertisement agency - is pretty much certain for potential permanent employment; the boss and coworkers keeps commending me on the quality and speed of my work... AND that the coffee's never been as good as since I started there a little over three months ago. :) (I've even sacrificed flesh and blood for the company, too - granted, it was a work accident, but there's nonetheless a piece of me left there for good. Unless someone got that little piece of fingertip flesh in the vacuum or something...)

Spike: Filking the Battle of Helm's Deep? WAI! It Must Be Mine! :D

And, what with me not getting much fascinating for Christmas this year (yet; I'm anticipating some gifts might have been sent to my apartment instead), and I still haven't seen Two Towers, well... Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to y'all. And now I'm off to govern my nation a little more. *Evil smirk*

Later, everyone.

A quick post, more later.

Flavor quiz: And I quote, "Yum! You're cinnamon. Explosive and utterly red-hot, you're as tasty as they come." Hmmm...not too far off the mark and it doesn't hurt that cinnamon _is_ my favorite spice.

Christmas goodies: Elizabeth Arden make-up set from my baby sister (Jolie), Trésor parfum and body lotion from my sister who is three years younger than me (Nikki), and tickets to Disneyland (for me, hubby, and kids) from my parents. All in all, it was a great Christmas. Both Little David and Lauren got lots of clothes from cousins, aunts (my sisters) and grandparents (my folks, hubby's parents passed away in 1989 and 1993). They also got two games each for the GameCube. Chris and Mikey got the usual toys and clothes, but this year was a little special; Chris got his first two-wheeler and Mikey got a tricycle.

...and although this isn't really a Christmas present, my sister, Nikki, announced her engagement. The wedding will be sometime in July 2004. I'm so excited for her and I can't wait! Yippee!

Just realized... it's cold.

That means I can finally wear my Gargoyles sweatshirt !!!

It's been at the back of my closet since the Gathering, because Summer and Sweats just don't mix, no matter how great a Gargoyles fan you are. But now that is so blasted cold and snowy, it's a perfect time to break it out and break it in *^_^*

Hot damn!

-- Thanks everyone who wished me happy b-day *^_^* Yay!!! Ooo...! With this many birthdays, maybe someday I'll actually grow up. hmmm... nah! :: bounces happily ::

It snowed all day today. Gorgeous packable snow... I so wanted to go play in it... sigh... but didn't want to relapse from the cold I'm getting older. It really is perfect snow for making snow balls and snow men though... I shouldn't. I really shouldn't. And tomorrow it will probably melt...

It would be a bad, bad thing to go suit up now at 3:30 am and make a snow man. It really would...

tempted.

soooo tempted...

it really wouldn't take that long... I'll just go make a small one! See you all later!

It's off to (west center) New Hampshire for me tomorrow, as my mother's relatives are holding gifts hostage, under the pretense that they're too heavy to mail.

Hyperion> <<how an foreign power would drive a tank down the streets of say...Tokyo>>: Level the buildings on either side first.
<<if you've a date in Constantinople, she'll be waiting in Istanbul>>: Ture, it stands to reason. I mean, enev old New York was once New Amsterdam.

Niamhgold> <<the flavor test>>: Rich, intense, and utterly decadent, I'm as tasty as they come (good news for my theoretical woman). It wasn't paying attention to some of my answers, like sheese and crackers for my only food, or being described as intelligent, but according to my sex answers, I'm apparently dark chocolate.
<<I couldn't live without meat>>: Good news for whatever man you find.
<<Are they custom-made by your father?>>: Custom painted, if you call cross indexed with the books custom. He muys the recent ones from an Irish company called Mithril (www.mithril.ie).
<<That's so cool>>: Some yes, some no. The early Balrog and Smaug versions don't impress me, but the Mithril stuff has some nice detail. Unfortunately he hasn't learned how to wash yet.
<< It would be nice to wake up and find a Faramir in my bowl of Froot Loops>>: We'd buy up the Tri State supply of Froot Loops to get the complete set.
<<Will ask, I promise>>: Not really worth the bother. It'd just be finding out of a lesser degree of separation.
<<After my surprisingly good grades from last semester>>: Still waiting for most of mine. Congratulations, though.
<<I think I'll be concentrating a *little* more on my life outside school>>: Wooha.
<<Heard you guys didn't get too much in the way of snow>>: There was a bit in Philly on the eve, but was gone by morning. It lasted where I live (all inch or so), and the wind that came with it caused some difficult to read signs on the way back. But most of it was north.
<<He was so happy, I swear he wet his pants>>: Loss of bladder control, or got too excited? I was slightly more reserved on my receipt. Do you kow if the last disc counts as Death/Rebirth and/or End?

Patrick> <<I passed the Professional Engineer's exam>>: Much congratulations.

Christine> <<his new idol, Alton Brown>>: Well deserved. The man is practically a scientist.

And though it is somewhat wrong, I do seen nothing bad with it. Therefore, the new mp3 is Cheech and Chong's Santa and His Old Lady.

Merry (late) Christmas, folks! Hope everyone who celebrated it had a good one.

I'll have my holiday story online soon, a little Cat Sabledrake adventure in the spirit of the season. Plus a new fanfic and Spacebabie's pic, coming soon to my site! Update will hopefully take place tomorrow.

We had a nice quiet day at home. Becca was up all night despite Tim's best efforts. She was delighted with the Gameboy that Santa left, and now has four more sets of Harry Potter Legos.

I got several books -- a couple of Richard Laymon, a couple ElfQuest, the Cartoon History of the Universe III, that new Victorian epic (Crimson Petals and White? I forget the exact title but I've heard good reviews) -- that sculpture of the ruby-eyed cat with the sweeping-flaring dragon wing (if you've seen it, you know the one I mean), a cozy fleece jacket, other stuff. Tim had a kitchen gadget Xmas, including the cookbook by his new idol, Alton Brown, and the DVD set of "Good Eats" episodes.

His sister arrives tomorrow and his folks on Sunday for the traditional New Year's. And as usual, I have to work. Doing an extra shift on Saturday night too, for overtime. I just keep telling myself it'll be worth it when I get the big check, even if it will have to go right to the credit card company.

So it sounds like everyone had a good Christmas. Me, I got a leather jacket from my boyfriend (of two years)'s mom. Total surprise. I also found out the real reason that my great uncle broke his arm was that he was deer-hunting from a tree and got completely stoned and in his haze, fell out and the arm broke.
<Patrick. Glad you got good news, I got my $130 phone bill from my supposedly $40 a month plan. They have charged us for almost double the day time minutes. That's it, I'm gonna have to give in and get a real phone from ameritech.
However, all in all a good Christmas for me as well.

:: looks at Todd lying on the floor ::

And here I thought it was called "Boxing Day" because the day after Christmas was when you box up the stuff you don't want and take it back to the store. :P

Got some good news in the mail today. I received notice from the state board that I passed the Professional Engineer's exam that I took back at the end of October. Now all I have to do is send them the $30 final registration fee to get my license number and become an official P.E. And then I can ask for spiffy new business cards. :)

Sorry to post again, but click my name-link to take the flavor test, or go to http://www.emode.com/emode/tests/flavor.jsp. I'm dark chocolate. My brother, apparently, is beer. Have we had this quiz yet?

I have been reading the Lilo and Stitch collected stories book and Batman: Animated by Chip Kidd. My god, do these make storyboarding and animation seem delicious to me again, after getting somewhat bored with it at school. Aspiring/current artists, read these! ;)

Jaden: <If I ever gave up meat, I think that I'd just do it on a whim. No real reason at all. Like when I gave up drinking soda> I did that once, and I found that I couldn't live without meat ;) But soda, man?! What were you thinking! ;) <Everyone go see it at least two or three times> ::Makes Spongebob "I'm-so-happy" face::

Gside: <Eh, some yes, some no> Woohoo! <My father's got his miniatures displayed> Are they custom-made by your father? That's so cool! Speaking of which, I wish cereal boxes would come with PVC figures included again. It would be nice to wake up and find a Faramir in my bowl of Froot Loops... <Though next semester I'm taking Internet Tech and Distributed Systems> Will ask, I promise. After my surprisingly good grades from last semester (well, all except one), I think I'll be concentrating a *little* more on my life outside school ;) <Spent Christmas in Philly with my brother (we brought steaks).> Heard you guys didn't get too much in the way of snow. <and the EVA box set> Woot! We all chipped in and bought that for Ivanny this year. He was so happy, I swear he wet his pants.

DPH: <What's the politically correct way to say "Merry Christmas"> I think the best bet is "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings." Probably the latter, where aetheism is concerned.

Christine: <Typically, it died right before the holidays when we had NO money left.> What is it with cars and dying on Christmas?! I'm sorry...glad you're all right, though. Many wishes for the rest of your holiday!

Spacebabie: <Don’t guzzle to much nog> Sadly, my downfall has been hot capuccino-caramels ;)

GB: <He may give you a bunch of penguins for Christmas> LOL! I got penguin-covered pajamas! ;) <I am really not used to seeing snow for Christmas. Well, it is touching that my unit has gotten Christmas cards from strangers thanking us for doing our part in defending them> That's cool...handmade or commercial?

Imzadi: <Oh, but I am watching. And laughing about your XP-erience, don't worry ;-)> Eh, go back to getting lei-ed ;)

Mooncat: <I'm opening presents!> Bow chicka bow...oh, you're not talking about *those* kinds of presents, are you? ;)

And, in the spirit of the holidays, I must help my dad fix the front brakes on my car.

Adios!

Well, that was a busy few days. Christmas was fun, as it usually is. I fail, however, to understand why every single little rugrat in my entire family tree decided to latch onto me on sight. Don't they understand that I hate kids? Hmm…in retrospect, perhaps that's why they do it. Curses....

And from the (overloaded) WTF files: Russians are investigating whether the Harry Potter books incite religious hatred. Apparently some woman in Moscow feels that they do.
Really, she might have a point. After all, according to some people, the reason there are terrorists all over the world is because of poverty, people insensitive to their plight and Hollywood (ooh...those evil American movies). I suppose Harry Potter could be considered a "root cause" of religious intolerance.

Anyway...

If you're comparing it to say...the distance from your house to the corner grocery, yeah, but compared to the kind of distances, even within our planetary system, much less interstellar distances, it's not that bad of an estimate. It should also give you an appreciation of the kind of energy output or sun is capable of.

<In Pennsylvania>Actually in the part of PA I'm in, if you see someone of black or Hispanic origin walking around without some sort of landscaping tool, it's generally a good idea to call the cops.
In the hospitals note though, I suppose there are some in the sate I mentioned. (I don’t' think Mexican ambulance drivers are really going all the way up to PA though) but where would you rather go? A large private hospital or Happy Harry's Discount Health Care? Especially if you're not footing the bill.

<Schools need at least...>some serious reform? The elimination of the "Really Great Society" programs of the last 30 years? The depressing thing is not that the schools are so screwed up right now, it's that it took about three decades to get them this way and will probably take an equal amount of time to fix them, and without the old, highly educated people from the pre-1970's covering for the nitwits in the meantime. Interestingly enough, education is a small subplot in "Atlas Shrugged"

Well, happy Boxing Day, everybody.

* a boxer suddenly comes in and starts swinging punches at Todd *

No, no, no, that's all wrong! Boxing Day has nothing to do with boxing! It's called that because people put things out in boxes that day for the servants, not -

*The boxer punches Todd squarely in the nose, knocking him out. The referee comes in, and stands over Todd, saying "4, 5, 6, 7, 8,9. 10, you're out!" Turning to the boxer, he cries, "The winner, and still champion!" and raises one of the boxer's arms up high. A horseshoe falls out of the boxer's glove and bonks him over the head. *

What's the politically correct way to say "Merry Christmas"?

No, I don't feel merry.

Tony Elliot - <Although Christmas has lost its meaning to you, DPH, for different reasons, I hope this little anecdote will make you feel better.> Material possessions aren't what I really want: I want to wake up without depression hanging around me.

Green Baron - <It's why drugs remain illegal while
prisoners have cable, welfare reform is declared racist, and public schools remain a monoploy that trap poor children in a land of no opportunities and poisonous guarantees.> Prisoners having cable is stupid, but they should have access to visit a library (said library wouldn't have to be inside the prison). Public schools are a great concept, but the fact remains students should be continously challenged to prepare them for college. I knew a teacher who shouldn't be teaching . . anything because she is severely underqualified. Unfortunately, said teacher is also black. Firing a black female teacher = instant invitation for lawsuit.

Spacebabie - <Not me but someone evil and who is good at computers> As if they networked to any other computer. less than 168 hours until the mistletoe goes offline until december of next year. Is there any point in trying to corrupt it?

Revel - <I find it Ironic that my school wants us to get in and get out in order to grab a hold of more unaware freshmen to steal their money for what they dare call education. Starting next year they will rquire another class in my degree plan, Intro to printmaking.> I believe basic graduation requirements are an attempt to appease every department in the university. I can understand a minimum math class requirement and a minimum requirement of writing classes, but beyond that, almost everything else doesn't make sense.

Bud - <That aside, magic (of the kind that you're describing) would be a form of energy, so you can
assume that it'd be similar to electricity. ...Millimeters per millisecond?> Let's say I was traveling at 5 meters per second. That would 5,000 millimeters per second. That in turn would be 5,000 millimeters per 1000 milliseconds or 5 millimeters per millisecond. The reason I am interesting is testing possible specs for holographic mistletoe v3.0 on the basis of being practical. No way I can examine the area surrounding the holographic mistletoe every billionth of a second so that the mistletoe location could be adjusted to dodge something traveling at the speed of light.

Yes, I will give one big hint about one spec for holographic mistletoe v3.0: the holographic mistletoe will in fact be made up of projections the size of a cubic centimeter or cubic millimeter. Yes, I am aware that to project v3.0 with just this one spec means I probably need to acquire a few million (or is it billion?) more holographic projectors. Don't worry: I plan on utilizing a private dimension to house all those projectors, the generators, and the support staff.

Hope you all had a good holiday.

Spent Christmas in Philly with my brother (we brought steaks). Didn't get too many toys, but the highlights were Guards Guards by Pratchett, a stack of 100 CDRs, a borders gift cirtificate probably to be used on anime, and the EVA box set. Still not quite sure if it has Death/Rebirth and/or End of Eva. My father managed to get a nice Gimli mug and a couple more LotR bookmarks.

DHP> <<That's too easy because you could simply do that with a large array by using up all the bits of memory>>: Nah, an overlarge memory allocation would crash teh program before the OS.

Fire Storm> <<I got a Christmas song request>>: I got in late today, but I've picked it up. I'll check it out tomorrow and see.

Spacebabie> <<I guess that would be on my too do list>>: It'd better be.
<<Preach it brother>>: Hallelujia.
<<Yah but this is cheaper>>: No, not that kind, either.

Green Baron> <<I just finsihed book 1 of Sluggy>>: Congratulations. Get cracking on book 2.

Christmas goodies here... several new shirts, gift cards for Best Buy and Borders, some very nice wallet-size portraits of dead presidents, and a framed picture autographed by Marina Sirtis. And thus continues the ongoing Christmas tradition of getting at least one "Trek" related from my family every year. :)

So now I'm sitting here laden down with Christmas dinner, watching "Anastasia" for the very first time on Fox. Kelsey Grammer has a very nice singing voice. Too bad the same can't be said of Christopher Llyod. Yeesh.

A shining light for all to see
The baby King is born tonight
He comes to save both you and me

It's Christmastime
For tonight, may all God bless
Here's the sign, it's Christmastime ...

For rich and for poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so Happy Christmas

A very Merry Christmas
And a happy new year
Let's hope it's a good one

I had a nice Christmas myself. A fairly solitary one (I live alone with my cat, and my family now lives in Arizona), but still pleasant. I called my mom up in Arizona and we chatted for a bit. I read Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" on Christmas Eve. My cat got a few catnip toys, which he was quite pleased with; I got a few goodies, a new watch, and a new shirt, among other things.

As long as Mooncat's sharing, here's what I got from my varied Santas today:

An Authentic Mc'Ds Flatbottomed duffle & visor(my boss)
A rebok Buccaneer's equipment cap (my boss)
A mini RC Matchbox car (sis)
A 20-dollar gift card (brother-in-law)
An interactive jedi lightsaber (niece, her mom picked it out)
A Milkshake Mixer (grandparents)

And for myself (though it came months earlier) a Gameboy Advance with a Gameshark enhancer...

I gave out some cool stuff to: My mother got a copy of Shania Twain's new CD (in a Wonder Woman lunchbox I found in a nostalgia store); my sis got the Cary Grant movie "Father Goose", my grandparents got some cute duck soup bowls, and my niece got a Crayola flashlight and a pair of Tigger and Winnie the Pooh water babies...

But the best part was spending time with my family... nuff said. ^_^

Happy December 25th!
Gah, what a month it's been. The movers are coming on the 30th so at least our stuff will all be here, though not in the house - (don't know when we'll have floors) but hey, it's a step forward and you just gotta appreciate those.

It snowed this morning, not enough to really stick, but enough to be pretty. I'm taking the day off from the 602 things I have on my "Honey Do" list (and you thought only guys had those), it's a good day.

Green Baron > You may be far from home but you have friends who miss you. ::Hugs:: Go do something fun today.

Actually, that's a good thought for everybody. Do something that makes you happy today, it'll rub off on those around you.

Josh> Christmas in Hawaii - you are one lucky pup. But you knew that. Me - I'm looking forward to Palm Springs in January.

Merry Christmas to all!

The presents have all been opened, the Christmas Eve meal has been digested, and my nephews from California received a very white and snow-filled Christmas - so everyone is pleased. (except me because I HATE snow)
We open our presents on Christmas Eve and this year, the "big" dinner was also on Christmas Eve (due to family scheduling of the other siblings). Unfortunately, my oldest brother and his 2 older children spent the night in Ft. Leonardwood, MO because of the snow storm that has swept thru here these past couple of days. (took him 3 hours to travel 20 miles, so they stopped for the night at the first available motel) Once they arrive, the entire family will be here - first time in many many years.
So far, there have been no fatalities... but the week is still young.

Zach made out like a bandit and was an absolute joy to watch while he opened presents! He would become upset if Anna took one toy away from him so that he could open another gift. He certainly enjoyed the new toys and the activity of having so many people around to give him whatever attention he desired.

I hope that each of you are enjoying your Christmas holiday and that you receive the blessings that come with the season.

Merry Christmas Morning!

I get to spend time with the family today, and then tommorow I'm off to Orlando to visit with Kellie - she's down for a week off. Joy! - and then I can only hope that we don't get as busy at work so I can wheedle leaving early so she and I can spend some time visiting some places in Tampa.

Some replies while I'm here...

MOONCAT - (notes time index) SHEESH! Opening presents THAT early??? What about having breakfast first, or waiting for everyone else to wake up? (assuming you're with family on christmas that is)...

CHRISTINE - Glad you got the plushie firedrake (dragon) in one piece! I already gave Becca her beanie-babie dragon, so that's legally yours! ^_^ And the cookies did make it! though they didn't last the night... ^_^

GREEN BARON - Not to poke in where I may not be wanted, but why are you so sour on Christmas? Man, I know you've been a touch cynical in the past (from what I recall reading your posts and RPs), but your last post... hell of a way to start it off! I mean, I know it may not be any of my beeswax, but what's thrown sand in your engine, dude?

JOSH - Hawaii, for the holidays... Go get lei-ed, man.

And with that, I'll just close this with wishing everyone a merry christmas, kwanza, haunika(?), winter solstice and a peaceful, prosperous new year to come!

Maintain and Check Six!

Merry F*cking Christmas from Kosovo

I am really not used to seeing snow for Christmas. Well, it is touching that my unit has gotten Christmas cards from strangers thanking us for doing our part in defending them.

Mooncat> Got your fics printed (when no one in the Office was looking). Now for time to read it :)

Gside> I just finsihed book 1 of Sluggy. Bun-Bun is a riot. So is Alayte :)

Bud-Clare> <<*beats Thomas with a nerf bat* Knock it off! >> At least you only used a nerf. I guess I'll have to remember not to say nice things about you.

<<Actually, I do have some rather strong opinions on the subject of locking baby cows in small boxes for months on end...>> I can understand where you'd ahve those views and I can even respect that, but I never have allowed principles to come between me and a good meal.

Also, if I ordered it, which I won't if I'm with you (out of consideration for your own feelings), you wouldn't throw a plate at me or throw blood at me over it.

Niamhgold> Watch what you sau about Santa. He may give you a bunch of penguins for Christmas :)

Heather> He's in Hawaii. He'll probably have his snide comments ready for you when he returns to post.

Jaden> It's not freezing right now and not much wind, so its ok. Right now, there's a freeze on reassignments in my MOS, so I may be stuck in Germany a little longer. The slot in Ft Huachuca seems to be gone and my CSM couldn't even get me any Middle East slots and I would like to go if we decide to lay the smack on Sadaam.

DPH> <<I buy that because the word "Christian" has lots its original meaning.>> Not really. I was a Christian since I was christened at three weeks old. Now I wasn't a practicing Christian until I was 18 and I can't really say that I am a good Christian.

I think your definition of Christian matches my definition of good Christian. As for original meaning, I'd wager it was someone who followed the beliefs about Jesus being the Christ and Savior, and not all of the Christians were models of the faith, but simply followers.

<<My question is will legalizing some drugs keep people safer on the street than making them illegal?>> Yes, I think so. I can't see where it would get worse.

<<but will it keep the drugs away from people who shouldn't be using them for public safety reasons?>> That's up to how we regulate the drugs after they are legal.

Tony Elliott>

<<Would cigars be a turn on or turn off? I get the bad feeling someone is going to reply with “it depends on where the cigar is used.”>> Brings up too many Clinton memories. It would be odd if I saw a woman with a cigar as you neevr see women enjoying a cigar, but they don't repulse me like cigarettes (low class disgusting things). If I had a girlfriend that enjoyed a cigar on rare occasions, I'd prefer she brush her teeth before kissing me :)

<<I’m not too worried about the aliens, it’s the native singe mothers who have 9 kids with their only income being welfare. Its not the moms can’t get jobs, they just won’t bother since the government gives them wads of cash for each baby they can pop out. And do you think that these mothers are raising kids who will be productive members of society? At least the aliens are trying to give their children a better life.>>

I blame that subhuman demonspawn Lyndon Johnson and his Great Society. Tommy Thompson did quite a bit to reduce welfare in your home state. California is where they need welfare reform. First thing we need to do is cut Maxine Waters into small pieces and reditribute her to all the poor families in Los Angeles :)

<<Amen! How much longer are we going to keep up this pointless “prohibition, take 2”?>> A while, I bet. I imagine the public education scam will last just as long.

<<In grade school I figured out Santa didn’t exist>> I have neevr agreed with telling children lies and that just destroys their imagination as they have to be told the truth. What a great way to break down trust!

<<It’s the celebration of Jesus coming into the world to take away our sins so humanity can be right with God.>> It's about the start and also about Mary being a role model for us Chirstians as the best example of faith and obedience to God (I am quite devoted to her). I've always associated Good Friday and Eatser with celebrating His death for us and our salvation, which still requires abit on our part.

<<I’m glad that I don’t get much material crap for Christmas anymore, if I did, I’d be one step further from God.>> Exchanging presents is still good, but we can't let the appetizer outdo the main course. I think a good way to spend Christmas is taking the family to a homeless shelter or a Salvation Army or St. Vincent DePaul Society or well you can pick anoth option and practice that whole giving thing. That would be a good lesson to teach.

<<Ya’ know, just about every president and presidential candidate has had a common first name: George, Bill, Ron, Jim, John, Rich, Mike, Ross. At least a guy named Strom was never elected.>>

Actually, that is his midle name as he is J. Strom Thurmond, and I don't know what the J. stands for.

I'm certain Ulysses Grant, Woodrow Wilson, Warren Harding, Calvin Coolidge, Herbet Hoover, Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, and Lyndon Johnson would disagree with you about presidential names :)

As for Presidential candidates, Adlai Stevenson, Wendell Wilkie, and Hubert Humphrey would disagree too.

Bud-Clare> <<Really the only serious downside would be that some people would fail to take drug use as seriously as they should, just because they'd think that if it's legal, it must not be too dangerous.>> Yes, there is a mentality that just because something is legal means its ok. I'm scared by it. There are lots of things that are legal that are not good and just because you have freedom to do something doesn't mean you should.

<<Unfortunately, most voters aren't interested in logic, so most politicians aren't, either.>> It's why drugs remain illegal while prisoners have cable, welfare reform is declared racist, and public schools remain a monoploy that trap poor children in a land of no opportunities and poisonous guarantees.

Listening to Styx "Not Dead Yet" My theme song today. Yes us lowly people who work in retail must work today. I know it's the christmas season and all that but I have two small things I'd like to complain about.
One, if you have a cupon and it's out of date, please save us both the time and not bitch and whine about "Oh, but it's only one day pass date." then she called me a hard ass, I happen to think I have a nice ass. Anyhow.
I find it Ironic that my school wants us to get in and get out in order to grab a hold of more unaware freshmen to steal their money for what they dare call education. Starting next year they will rquire another class in my deggree plan, Intro to printmaking. WTF?! It's not that hard, you cut out the desing your roll some paint and you print. Why do we need an intro to how to do this? :P

Spike- If I started filking at his age my mother would be like "I'm so proud" Then again my mother has been doing conventions and RP's since before I was born. I have a great excuse for being the way I am. ];)

FS- But that's the one where Santa gets kicked out of the Projects, poor fat man. ;)

Josh- enjoy Maui, watch out for sharks, they bite.

GregX- Unicron's head did make an excelent moon though.

"No darlin. Spider-man's a sissy."

DPH> << I can buy the first part of that because the goal of some police departments is to seize money to pay for the department NOT wipe out the drug problem.>>
I was under the impression that all seized money was eventually destroyed.

<<No, I don't mean the obvious decline in turf wars over the selling of drugs, but will it keep the drugs away from people who shouldn't be using them for public safety reasons?>>
Anyone who went to work while under the influence would be fired, just like if they showed up for work drunk. And the penalties for driving while under the influence would be the same. Really the only serious downside would be that some people would fail to take drug use as seriously as they should, just because they'd think that if it's legal, it must not be too dangerous. They'd need to find better ways of educating people about the dangers, but they need that anyway. Legalizing drugs would solve some problems and create some new ones, but the new ones would probably be more manageable than the current problems. Unfortunately, most voters aren't interested in logic, so most politicians aren't, either.

<<I wonder how long your catch-up post will be.>>
He'll probably crash the whole server...

Still chuggin’ along through Gargoyles season 1; just finished “Two”, and am in the middle of “The Hunted”. I’m still impressed by the quality of this fan-fic. The only thing I don’t like so far is that the episodes don’t seem to be linked together. What happened to the journal Demona gave to Angela (From the Heart), Hudson’s teaching (To Restore Amends), and Demona’s meeting with the other parallel universe Demona (Two)? Are these story lines going to continue? Then again, there were a lot of story lines that just dangled in Star Trek (any series); like, what happened to Wesley Crusher after he became The Traveler’s protégé? Speaking of which, did anyone notice him at Troi and Riker’s wedding party in Nemesis?

I’d like to amend what I sad last week about having one good scifi/fantasy show on the air. I made it sound like Enterprise was the only one, but Fox’s Firefly is a damn good show. Anyone else a Firefly fan?

<Yes, Christmas has lost its meaning for me and has for years> I know what you mean. When I was a kid, I would get so excited for Christmas, but once I hit high school, they went downhill. I liked the family gatherings, but my focus was on the presents. In grade school I figured out Santa didn’t exist, which took away some of the “Christmas Magic”; and in high school, the amount of presents diminished every year killing off any magic that was left.
But now, I reflect on past self and I’m disappointed that I was that superficial. The only thing that made it special was the trivial crap. Now that I’m older and more mature, both as a man and as a Christian; I finally appreciate what a miracle Christmas is. It’s the celebration of Jesus coming into the world to take away our sins so humanity can be right with God. I’m glad that I don’t get much material crap for Christmas anymore, if I did, I’d be one step further from God. Although Christmas has lost its meaning to you, DPH, for different reasons, I hope this little anecdote will make you feel better.

Not having a good day today.

I just reinstalled Windows XP. Now I have to reinstall all my programs(if I want them to work with no glitches). And it was all my fault!!. I had a program that XP would not allow me to install. "This installation does no run on Windows 2000 (or XP)" I figured that since I can run 9x apps by switching the "Compatibility Mode" in the shortcut properties to "Windows 98", why shouldn't the same work for a 9x installation program. So I installed the program in Windows 98 compatibility mode. Everything was fine until I restarted my computer. Wiondows opened normally but as soon as the first icon appeared in the system tray I got "ERROR IN NEWDEV.DLL MISSING ENTRY: CLIENT SIDE INSTALL." then again after each device loaded. I immediately uninstalled the program and performed a system roolback, which only messed up my machine even more since it crashed on the restart. ::now here's where Josh is going to bost about how OS-X has a "System Restore" disk with an option to "restore in place" so you don't have to reinstall all your applications blah blah blah. But he isn't here now is he :p :: Can't do that with Windows because it needs to write to a "swap" file all the time. :p Thank goodnes though for my collection of old hard drives. With one of them I was able to rename the folders with all my customized settings so they wouldn't be overwritten. :)

I would expect all troops would be trained roughly equally according to function and the incompotent and semi-incompotent ones would be kicked out so they couldn't become your weakest troops. <Okay I'm off to Maui. See you all in a week!> I wonder how long your catch-up post will be.

GSide - <Crash a program, easy. Chrash theOS, you first need to find where the important bits of memory are and flip them the wrong way.> That's too easy because you could simply do that with a large array by using up all the bits of memory.

8 more days until Holographic Mistletoe v2.0 is offline and work on Holographic Mistletoe v3.0 begins. Seriously, I am going to have to start defining those specs pretty damn soon. One key feature will be decreasing the amount of time each holographic projector gets the info on where to place the mistletoe and what the mistletoe looks like.

Niamhgold> <<Anyways, I'm boring you>>: Eh, some yes, some no.
<<My mother's been proudly displaying all of the LOTR artwork she and her friends made in HS>>: My father's got his miniatures displayed. Even before the movies. He got some golf ball displays to hold them more orderly.
<<while the movie Faramir looked like a real brother of Boromir>>: I'd imagine the book Faramir would also look like a brother of Boromir.
<<I was never able to ask my roommate if her Rutgers BF is taking the class you asked about earlier>>: Eh, it's over now, so it doesn't matter any more. Though next semester I'm taking Internet Tech and Distributed Systems.

And since I do quite love the Ukranian Bell Carol, you're getting another version of it this year. Mannheim Steamroller's Carol of the Bells.

Na zdorov'ya.

Everyone having a Merry Christmas? I hope so. My family surprised my by showing up in Washington and we are having a great time.

Josh<I'm the candidate> We'll see about that, after we find out what skeltons are in your closet.

Lila< That would mean intelligence in office> But I still have a chance right?

Two Towers- Everyone go see it at least two or three times.

Green Baron- I was really pissed, not only that but my leave form had to be redone three times before they got it right. How hard is it to get a name and a SSN right? I hope you're staying warm.

Vegetarianism- If I ever gave up meat, I think that I'd just do it on a whim. No real reason at all. Like when I gave up drinking soda.

Later.

Fire Storm> <<LM REALLY loves the Lord of the Rings>>: Congratulations, you really do have a keeper.
<<How-Tos?>>: Nah, personalities, skills, and equipment for my first opus.
<<Well, that sucks!>>: But he is also quite old, so he might have gotten it first and taught it to others, only needing manpower (dwarfpower) for the birthday party.
<<Resistance is futile>>: Ultimately, but dwarves do only get dragged in later, and no not generate as much volume.
<<But does she ignore the 'For external use only' part?>>: Either works for me.
<<REALLY suck trying to use a broom for a date? I mean, no back seat to make out in>>: You just have to be a bit more creative about out of the way places to go. Perhaps create your own dimension to sneak off to. And as a bonus, no really uncomfortable place.

3rd.
More later.
