Fire Storm> <<Maybe I am mistaken in the term... I think you need to add heat and pressure to make the borax take hydrogen again>>: Then here it would be endothermic to add hydrogen, exothermic to get hydrogen out into engine. Exothermic means energy leaves the reaction (big boom). Endothermic means the reaction absorbs energy (cold pack). But no matter what, you generally need at least a bump of energy at the beginnning to get something to happen.

Fire Storm> <<MISSING: Sleep If anyone can find it for me, please return it to me>>: When I lose mine, I usually find it again in my bed. That or on the sofa. I've even found it on the floor occaisonally.

Jaden> <<Does college seem alittle strange to anyone else?>>: I went to a very large school with a very large bureaucracy. I dealt with it mainly by eh.

Fire Storm - <MISSING: Sleep If anyone can find it for me, please return it to me. I am currently at work and I desprately need it returned.> DPH has instructed me to acquire any pills which give the effect of having 2 or more hours of sleep.

Silverbolt - <You've finished the book already???> DPH wanted me to pass along the info that if he finds a good book to read, he will finish reading the book very quickly, ignoring other tasks to read the book. It shouldn't be suprising that others do the same.

Also, DPH wishes to know if the new Harry Potter book knocked Hillary Clinton's book off the best seller list yet? (yea, DPH knows that Green Baron would probably ask that question)

While I'm here, DPH wishes me to warn DC: there are two new *untested* weapons waiting to be used against you. Both are particularly nasty.

Green Baron - <I don't think Massachusettes even borders Canada.> Very correct. Massachusettes is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

Okay, classes really hard! Barely have brain power to post. Seriously, I'm never taking three 101 classes during the summer again. I keep expecting to feel my brain leaking out of my ear. Though according to my Psych and Physical Anthropology that can't happen. We'll see.

Does college seem alittle strange to anyone else? I mean before they'll let me take college algebra they want to see my high school transcripts showing that I took geometry, even though I scored into college level math.
ARG!!! GROWL!!! and SNARL!!!

Lain> This may shock you, but I agree with you.

The US military has a horrible problem with friendly fire. This has been a problem since WWII. It's only more evident now, because of how few deaths actually occured in the last two quasi-wars. I have no sympathy for these pilots and I wonder why Celluci was even picked. I don't have my US map with me, but I don't think Massachusettes even borders Canada.

As for dumbass soldiers, try working Customer Service for them. And what is worse is how they wait forever to turn in a document or try any sympathy plea to get around using their PAC (personell officer), or they bring in their family and the family members can be particularly vicious.

As for Canadian beef, I think the ban is foolish and undoubtedly encoruaged by certain folks out to raise the price of American beef. Also, that was in Alberta, one of the most pro-Amerian provinces in Canada. We should get an Ambassador from the West, like Slade Gorton, ex-Senator from Washington. He'd be good with the Western Canada crowd, and shoudl be more diplomatic, or Bush coudl send his brother in. After all, Chretien's nephew is our Ambassador (unless that changed).

If France did bomb our soldiers, I would first be surprised they have working airplanes, and chalk it up to friendly fire, unless Dominique deVillepin (who is a man) started cheering about it on the news.

I am not taking part in any boycott in Canada. In fact I will enjoy a lovely week in Newfoundland, and if you're interested, I can visit you and Gunjack in London, since I will fly into Toronto from Frankfurt. If you want to see me, just let me know before I purcahse the tickets from Toronto to Deer Lake :)

Heather> I'm glad you got it. I didn't think your mother would let you. I am going to read teh first one after I finish Harry Turtledove's Ruled Brittania, where the Spanish Armada conquered Britain, Queen Elizabeth is imprisoned in the Tower of London, and Shakespeare is part of conspiracy to restore her to power.

In other good news, I finally saw Gangs of New York. It was an excellent movie and I wonder just how much of it is fact and how much has Scorcese's liberties.

On an interesting side note, the Five Points is now known as Chinatown.

Five days left until The Gathering.

Three episodes of "The Goliath Chronicles" left to dub for the friend I promised to deliver a tape to at the Gathering. I've been watching my tapes of the original ABC airings and editting out the commercials so I can fit all 13 on one tape. I just finished with "For It May Come True"... which means the next one I have to watch is "To Serve Mankind." I hope I survive this next half hour...

Maybe I am mistaken in the term... I think you need to add heat and pressure to make the borax take hydrogen again.
To release it is simple (I am not sure if it is a chemical reaction or a simple pressure drop that releases it, but either way, it's a lot easier to remove the hydrogen from Borax then it is to put it back.)

Ugh, Brandon has some friends over, and, Brandon being the least practicing drunk, has completely lost control of himself. *sigh* I just spent the last half hour convincing him to sit down. I'll give him this: he is a very witty drunk. :)

Lain: I was wondering when you would get wind of that story. For more fun check out antiwar.com alot of it is grossly slanted but some of it is fun. :) ...We have an ambassador to Cananda? Why? It's like a short long distance phone call away.

Ok, I've only read the first like five pages of the first HP book, and don't really care to read more. (not that I didn't like me, it just didnt grab my enthusiasm). But now I must ask: What happens on page 806 or whatever that has everyone so upset. Could someone please reveal what happens in spoiler mode for those of us who don't really want to by a book they don't want to read to find out? Thanks! :)
... Oh yeah, and Niamhgold, you're not alone.

Gunjack:<I'd be a small quivering pile on the floor. Good job handling it as well as you did>. Thanks. Oh I was sobbing like a child, but at some point I just got really angry and fed up that this guy was really giving me no chance, so I just started sob-yelling at him and I'm pretty sure that any customer near the registers could hear me. I wished I was financially secure so I could flip him off too. :) I guess I'm a little bitter now.
<From what Lain tells me, these hobby stores just can't be bothered.> Yup. We really don't care what you think of our store policies either, or if you want to go to the store down the street. It was pretty much yeah screw you too until we got this co manager from Old Navy. :P. I dunno, I do think Hob/Lob is too trusting old timey. It makes for a fun work atmosphere but you know that evil people are screwing them over.

DPH: How about, it takes one bad fruit to bring mold to the entire basket, or something nice and quaint like that. :) Belive me, the whole thing read like a tv show and it was almost too easy to see the plot twists coming. Only thing that didn't happen was probably the evil cashier screwing the DM on the side. Ahh, it feels good to vent.

As for the camera matter, the Sunglass Hut I worked at in north of the Loop Chicago didn't have a camera until there was a rash of gunpoint robberies on that street. Even then they put up a dummy cam that barely scared anyone. The Subway deli workers across the street kept us safer. Besides, I don't really see cameras as a deterant. They could have pointed out any one of the times I opened my locker door as the time to put the money in there.

Spacebabie: Oh yeah, consider lock gotten. And trust broken, but at least they fired the other cashier. :)

Thanks all! Brandon just spilled a coke all over himself, I think he needs my help. What an irresponsible drunk!

Josh lives!

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix...

s
p
o
i
l
e
r
s

I went ahead and read mine. I'll take something else with myon my flight bag.

Very Good Read. Started out slow, and seemingly meandering, but it all feeds to plot later on. During the middle the song "Fell On Black Days" kept going through my mind. Very badly wanted something horribly painful and fatal to happen to the frilly toad woman.

The thing I don't get is why people are crying. While there is a huge lot of food for thought and some excellent plot structuring, I don't really see the ending as all that sad. I know Harry is traumatized by it, but a reader as an outside party should know one thing well and true... NO BODY, NO DEATH. Sorry, without a nice chunk of recognizable corpse, I can't take the supposed demise all that seriously. Though I do feel very bad for Harry.

I think the writing style is maturing really well, to keep pace with Harry's real time aging a year for each book, but there is still a lot of "watered down" feel to much of the book that reminds me it is a children's book genre after all, and not yet really "young adult"/teen level of edge, considering that the main characters are 15 year olds. The violence is contained to "no children are permanently hurt" and all in all, the death count of this book is much less than previous ones. In fact, there is only one off panel, "red shirt" death, and the one death that has Harry so upset at the end. All in all, I think the deaths in previous books, like Cedric's, were handled with more "oomph" and involved me as a reader more.

A big plot hole to me was te person responsible for the initial Dementor attack on Harry. She said in front of witnesses that she set the Dementors after Harry, which is as good as a murder attempt as far as I can figure, yet no guard is placed on her? No punishment is meted to her?

Parts I loved. Luna. Yay Luna! I hope she is used more in future books. Ginny. What a proper young minx she's become! I'm proud of the girl! Go Ginny, go! Give your brother Ron the vapors with all the guys you run through. *^_^*

Snapes. Snapshot memories of his past. Oooo!!! nifty neat!!! Harry's dad James. What a prat. Can't say I like him or young Sirus much at all. He's the type of guy I absolutely loath. Picking on someone not because of what they do, but because they are the "odd one out" and easy prey. That's the kind of "popular/jock" bad behavior that I find particularly nauseating. I think Harry's mom shouldn't have given him the time of day, instead of falling in love with the jerk. Being fifteen isn't an excuse for that kind of behavior. Plenty of people manage being fifteen without being bullying pigs. I can't help but think Harry's mom and Harry's aunt married the same type of man, despite superficial differences.

Overall... I grade the read as OUTSTANDING. More angsty than previous ones, less "wonder" filled, but more complex action and suspense.

Harry embodies the moody, reckless young teenager in this book. I wanted to slap him several times, but the characterization is nicely realistic for his age and situation.

beginning to ramble now.

***************WARNING!!! INCOMING RANT ABOUT AMERICAN MILITARY AND DUMBASS US AMBASSADOR!!************

so yeah. i dont know if any of you remember (or not) an episode that occurred in afganistan involving some dumbass US pilots who decided they were going to completely disobey the rules and throw procedure out the window and thought it might be fun to drop an.. oh, i dunno 225 kg (bigass) bomb on a bunch of canadians who were conducting a live-fire training exercise.. in an area that was perfectly allowed and known that they would be doing that.
so, they killed 4 canadian soldiers and wounded 8 others, the first canadian deaths in combat since the korean war.
both the canadian and american inquiries into the incident agree that it was the US pilots faults and that the canadian soldiers followed all propor procedures.
the pentagon announced that the two pilots were supposed to face court-martial, four charges of (each) involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault and dereliction of duty.. but the american air force decided that.. well.. no.. that wasnt *really* necessary.. and have come to the conclusion that the most appropriate punnishment for them would be a months reduction in pay (for the one guy) and a "letter of reprimand" to the other pilot.

if you dont mind me asking.. what the f^*(ing hE!! is that? to top it off, the stupid american ambassador to canada (paul celluci) came up with the brilliant plan of saying "They [the pilots] have families, too, and they feel pretty bad about what has happened as well," well gee, i feel really sorry for them now! thanks paul. at least their families get to see their sons/husbands/brothers whatever, you know, ALIVE.

i cant help wondering what would happen if this situation were reversed.. or if french soldiers had dropped the bomb on a bunch of US soldiers.

then you go off and wonder where all this canadian "anti-american" sentiment is coming from.

.. and dont even get me started on that whole "canada has evil mad cow disease, lets ban all beef!!!" without telling anybody that the cow that was sick was 1 (one) singular cow that was slaughtered, oh, more than a year ago. uh huh, big threat.

my real question is.. if americans want other nations to view them as *actual people* and not pompous, ignorant, self-centered rude-@$$es, why dont they send an ambassador that DOESNT posess ALL of said traits with such vigour? just a thought :P

yeah, can you tell im a little aggravated? i know cool americans. why cant THEY be on tv? :P

mrow.

Fire Storm> <<I am pretty sure that it is an exothermic reaction requiring higher than normal temperatures>>: But why would you want anything that absorbs energy in your car?

Josh> <<Long time no see>>: Said the man in the middle of the desert.

Gunjack> <<If the place were cold, the energy lost to the atmosphere might actually warm things up a bit, yes?>>: But you're still losing much power. And there's the whole thing about butterflies causing hurricanes. This would be one large butterfly. Probably bigger than Mothra.
<<Well, I DO consider you a friend>>: Nice to hear, but this is still me we're talking about.
<<Your autograph, at least>>: You could have gotten that if you asked for an insert in my shipment.
<<Maybe I'll send Lain and Gabe to fart your belly or sommat>>: You expect this to bother me? I am large, hairy, and enjoy the baser things in life.
<<I've never been to a Con without there being at least one thing I wish I coulda captured for posterity>>: Still, without one of my own, I'll content to stealing others off online presentations.
<<how often do you hit le konz?>>: This shall be my first.
<<Unless you're suffering from it>>: Why suffer? Enjoy it. Molest a few corpses.
<<we were electrocuting ourselves with house current>>: It's something everyone has to do at least once.
<<I might point out that she hits first. Firmly>>: If they want equal rights, someone's got to make sure they get it.
<<I could SO pull a Golden Boy right now>>: Molest the toilet?
<<as of the 18th of this month, I am now 21 years old>>: Happy Birthday. Make some saltimbolca with a nice wine.
<<Zees Eez Bekause You Are Krazi>>: Hey! Listen!

Niamhgold> <<My website has now been shifted to a new address (still in the process of tweaking>>: Congratulations. I'm assuming you know there's a bunch more images you haven't uploaded.
<<Am I the only person in the world who completely doesn't give a darn about Harry Potter and getting those books?>>: Haven't read a one, but I'd like to get around to it some day.

My website has now been shifted to a new address (still in the process of tweaking, but the index page looks fine with the exception of the header ;)). It is now www.kryshiggins.com, ad-free, and cost-FREE with 50 MB of space and no registration fee. Bwahahahaha! www.geocities.com/fluff_astrid still exists, for now.

Had dinner with friends tonight at my place, had my first drinks since my birthday didn't go over well ;) On the other hand, my proxy vehicle (the one I got *after* my car totalled itself) decided to bail on me and went completely dead at the grocery store today. Curse my luck! But thank goodness for AAA.

I saw the Hulk last night. My coworkers and I both agreed, surprisingly good. Better than Spiderman. A little on the long side, but Ang Lee didn't go too far with his cinematography with the mere exception of a Charlies-Angels scene with an explosion (for those who see it, you'll know what I'm talking about ;)). My hard-to-impress friend Joe was even impressed by the movie, so I guess that's a good sign.

Am I the only person in the world who completely doesn't give a darn about Harry Potter and getting those books?

Have a good night and see some of you (if luck will be with me, for freaking once ;)) next week!

Just got back from FINALLY seeing X2 with Lain. I think she'd agree that Nightcrawler is tres sexi.

"How many do you have?"
"One for each sin, so... Quite a few."

The white house attack scene was incredible, and I loved magneto's escape. Iron is fun. I know next of nothing about the Marvel universe, but I was still dissapointed to see Lady Deathstrike dead; it'd be nice to see her as sommat other than "Mindless Goon". Did she even have speaking lines? 8 P

Oh, and apparently, we JUST MISSED seeing Cowboy Bebop: Knocking on Heaven's Door on the big screen, within walking distance, for TWO BUCKS A POP. They showed it for three days. And we missed it. *Gnashes teeth in innexpressable rage*

FS><<Well, you know that you now HAVE to post them!>> Spent the last few days working up the concept sketches, and she's finished down to the hips. She can also pick your nose with her ribs. ...Unfortunately, Kinkos experienced some technical difficulties, sop no cybernetic boobies for YOU. As soon as we get em scanned, Lain promised me some website space for posting. 8 )

Gside><<I've seen worse.>> So have I, but I've never been the one drawing them before... <<first way I think of to turn the laser into electrical energy would be to have it heat something to boil water to cause steam to turn a turbine.>> Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. <<And you'd lose so much energy in the atmosphere.>> If the place were cold, the energy lost to the atmosphere might actually warm things up a bit, yes? <<You're even more insane than she is, thinking about me personally.>> Well, I DO consider you a friend... <<Though I will if approached. Any requests?>> Your autograph, at least. Beyond that, we'll see. <<Every chance I get. I think it's a recipe for a good life.>> True. Maybe I'll send Lain and Gabe to fart your belly or sommat, and get a recording of the sounds that ensue.
She'll do it, too. She owes me. ;8 )
<<Besides, I won't be bringing a camera.>> I would, if I were you. I've never been to a Con without there being at least one thing I wish I coulda captured for posterity... Out of curiosity, how often do you hit le konz? <<Morbitity is not a bad thing.>> Unless you're suffering from it.

Dezi><<And no that wasn't like two weeks ago-it was when I was like 7...>> Heh. You said it, not me. Reminds me of a funny story, though... I used to have a friend who was convinced Greys (the big headed, black-eyed aliens) really existed and routinely abducted people. So one day, after a big rainstorm, he and I were in the garage, and I was showing him the new knives I'd been grinding... and as I touched the knife, I felt this wierd tingly feeling all up my arm. He tried to puick up the knife, and got the same thing, and was immediately certian that aliens were nearby and this was a side effect of their flying saucers. It took us about ten more shocks to realize that the humidity and steel dust had caused the grinder to electrify the whole bench, and that we were electrocuting ourselves with house current.

Good times, good times... 8 )
<<But it's all good now!>> ...Holy...
Uh, yeah. I'd be a small quivering pile on the floor. Good job handling it as well as you did... O.O

DPH><<And there should be some cameras on the lockers and on the cashiers. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.>> *Falls off his chair laughing* ...No, really, tell another!
...From what Lain tells me, these hobby stores just can't be bothered. Lain's shop had several hundred dollars worth of kits walk out of the store in under an hour, and their inventory is ALWAYS short. There's a sign at the front that says "smile, you're on camera"... but there ain't no camera.

Spacebabie><<Ha ha you’re her bitch>> ...It's comments like this that make me think maybe I should give up this whole "patient, longsuffering" thing and just start beating my girlfriend. ;8 P ...And before someone grouches at me, I might point out that she hits first. Firmly.
<<Let me take a guess…You are wearing her underwear again.>> Agian? AGAIN!? There was a first time!? Although, given that she's stuck at work for the next four hours, I could SO pull a Golden Boy right now... <<I can see her asking for that in her next upgrade. “Just so I have a floatation device incase I land in a large body of water.”>> I'm tempted to put either power supplies or a CPU in em... I'd hate to see that storage space go to waste.

Niamhgold><<Nothing like a scary movie with zombies to make my night!>> Mmmm, slavering hordes of the undead. Do the good guys get shotguns?

Revel><<got my suit laid out thout it has not been worn in four years, little dusty. And for the record, I hate NECKTIES.>> They remind you that you still have a neck. And it's nice to adjust after hurting someone very badly.
http://www.vgcats.com/vgc_comics/?strip_id=3
<<Probably why I find NASCAR only exciting in the last 10 laps and sometimes not at all.>> You watch Nascar? *snicker*

Bud Clare><<NO. I want to sue.>> Me too, dangit. <<What an evil b*tch.>> Quite. Annoying and creepy, too.

...And in closing, as of the 18th of this month, I am now 21 years old. Liffe continues to be good. 8 )

NOTE TO ALL HP FANS - If you missed out pre-ordering the new book, here's a tip: Head to Costco or Sam's Club. They've got a stockpile of the books for sale, and considering how they usually sell at below cost, the books should be a steal...

*delurks and waves half-heartedly*

Man, I am SO mad at myself...

Couple months ago, I tried to start putting together a costume to go as the Banshee. It largely fell through, mainly because of personal problems work, and the fact that Dad likes rushing into things...

So I'm digging through my closet and pull out the ONE costume piece I managed to get before everything went nuts: a purple wig that, while I got it on sale, wasn't all that cheap. I wouldn't care, but I'd like to get my money's worth, you know?

And that's all I've got. I'd totally forgotten about it. I have no energy and what with Dad's wedding tomorrow, I have no time to pull together the rest of it. I'm getting on a train to New York on Thursday afternoon. I just don't know what I'm going to do about this wig.

Any suggestions?

GNAW THE BONES!!!
...There should be a song called that, maybe from one of those black-metal bands Gabe likes son much.

Okay. Gonna scan the Hyena pages today, along with some other stuff. Some really toothy other stuff. We're gonna catch X2, and then catch a bite downtown. Maybe Tim Hortons, maybe small children.

Catchup later. Or maybe Ketchup. One never knows.

Hold on here... that's NOT standard practice at the Gathering?

Gside: <How violent is the reaction to get the hydrogen in? If not much the hydrogen could be bubbled in and reacted in the tank.>
No clue, but I am pretty sure that it is an exothermic reaction requiring higher than normal temperatures.

Sounds like I am in for a problem when I get LM her copy...
Um... I hate to ask this, but when does it happen in the book? I need to know where to put a bookmark that says "DO NOT READ PAST THIS POINT AT WORK!"

Got my Harry Potter book! Only had to wait 3 hours, until my preordered number came up at 1:40 am. My, children drop like flies after the witching hour... So many moms carrying sleepy or sleeping tots.

Had to park in the business center behind the bookstore and walk.

Now the book is safely tucked in my airplane carry on bag, all ready for the Gathering *^_^* ... or rather my flight down to the Gathering.

wuff!

Niamhgold> <<Silly east coast>>: You see, the jet streams changed so that we've got colliding Canadian air and Gulf of Mexico water.
<<soon enough I'll be moving to kryshiggins.com and there should be no stupid mess-ups>>: But who will be hosting?
<<What do you have to say on monkeys?>>: One of the great humor animals. It's uncertain which is better, monkeys or cows. Though lately I've been rereading what I have of Discworld, so I'm rooting for apes now.
<<I will certainly stop there...but I'll probably only be buying a soda>>: How can you not get a Stage corned beef sandwich? It's inconceiveable.
<<In any case, I figured you'd want to hit the anime store>>: Maybe, but for now I'm hoarding until I get an income, and I've had good experience mail ordering DVDs.
<<and you have to compete for one in 4>>: Better chances that one in one.
<<Aren't you scared yet of that photograph of me?>>: I've seen Waita Uziga and Rebis. It takes more than that to scare me.

Spacebabie> <<1 mummified corpse of a tit mouse>>: Tufted or vanilla?
<<but nice and sof>>: There are many advanced materials that can duplicate the softness, yet still conceal fun surprises.
<<What would you like me to say?>>: The entire Snark?

Leo> <<Why not "Yackety Sax" ?>>: Since I am off my network, it actually takes time to download songs now, so I hadn't gotten it yet, but Wabash was good enough. Besides it tortured me enough a couple weeks back in band. I am very out of practice.

Thought for a moment that my checkcard number had been stolen. I got a blue slip from the bank saying my account was overdrawn. Whaaaaaa?!? I hardly ever use this particular card except for small purchases like gasoline, and i'm positive I have NOT used this card in at lest a couple months. So where did this $19 charge come from and what hapened to the rest of the $59 that were in my account at the end of May?!? Well, it turns out that it's all my dumb-a$$ fault. , atleast the $19 part, I forgoyt to cancel my useless on-ling Consumer Reports Subscription and got automatically renewed for another year. "Mo$#%R F%$&ING G^$ &^%N S-O-B!!!!!!" *slams fist repeatedly against desk* >:( [[OK, I feel better now. :)]] Haven't confirmed the other charge yet but I have a feeling It's my fault too. :( So after settling my -$6.00 Balance and paing an additional $30 "overdraft fee" (BASTARDS)I have come to the conclusion that 1 check card is enough (and guess which one I'll be getting rid of? >:)) In case you haven't already guessed, it was Bank of America.

Niamhgold:<<When, oh when, will it stop raining? Silly east coast ;)>> Well down here in Southern VA. it does actually stop for a few hours(enough to see the sun), then it starts back up again. - My cable mode doesn't like this. If the TV cable so much as flickers, the broadband always stays out an additional 30 minets while everything down at COX Cable resets. I wish Verizon would hurry their butts up and bring DSL to our neighborhood. >:( <<The fact that it worked, or the photo?>> The photo. At least now I know what one of my gathering roomies looks like.:)

My writing has been slowing down, I think it’s because of my Gathering jitters. Yikes! Oh well I know things will pick up again.

I should be going over my list of stuff I need to pack and I have to add some stickers to my new luggage piece. I’m most likely needing to take a couple with me.

Today is my Dad’s birthday…yay we get to eat cake and remind him how old he is. He already got all his presents on Father’s day.

One day till the first day of Summer and Harry Potter!
Five days till I pack
Six days till I get to see my Revy
And to quote Samarah Morgan “Seven Days”

Notices a strange list on the floor Hmmmm.

1 Canadian toilet
5 Spark plugs
A pair of Jumper cables
10 apple cores
2 pairs of pickled monkey feet
4 lions fangs
1 orca brain
6 squid tentacles
1 alien fetus
5 naked mole rats
1 mummified corpse of a tit mouse
Talcum powder

I’ll think I’ll save this for later.

Dezi - <I didn't have a lock on the locker because all I had in there was crayons.> Do you realize how much of a risk you were taking by NOT putting a lock on the locker? Somebody could have used it to temporarily hide drugs, weapons in crimes, etc. And there should be some cameras on the lockers and on the cashiers. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Sigh, need to get up at 5:30 to be at college orientation at 8 am (90 minute drive...leaving at 6 am). It's going to be a long day, then I have to work all weekend (sat-mon). but hey, I get a week off after (since the gathering takes place on my 2 primary work days, sat-sun).

Niamhgold (and anyone else who is considering buying a disposable camera): When shopping for one time use camera (OTUC), get a brand name one. Yes, they are more expensive, but they are made from scratch (the plastic they recycle is melted down and re-molded). Cheap ones are held together inside with electical tape and are from receycled parts that are NOT melted and remolded (you can have parts from 2 totally different camera comapies in there, and they don't all have the same shape!) This can cause light leaks, and ruin your pictures. They also often use pretty low quality film as well. Plus the tape is a pain in the @$$ for the photo tech to get off to open the camera, and get the stupid film out.

My advice would be to buy a cheap $10-$20 camera and get good film. These types of camera aren't good for distant photos, but for close up, they tend to work fine. They aren't as good as those $200 ones, but for close-ups, they do pretty well, considering the price. The lens on them is MUCH better than 99& of OTUC.

And if you DO get a OTUC, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS use the flash! I've used Kodak OTUC's before, indoors when sun was shining almost blindingly into the room, and I didn't think I needed the flash (since they have 800 speed film in there, which is good for lower light), so I didn't use it, and you couldn't really even see the picture. It NEVER hurts to use the flash, unless you are taking pictures pf glass, then it can reflect, but that's another story entirely.

Trust me on all this Info, I'm a Kodak certified Photo technician, and I've been in photo about 2 1/2 years. They actually DO train you in more than just operating the machinery!

Bud Clare:
Thanks. I did need it.

See last Monday, the 9th, (also my boyfriend and my 2 1/2 year aniversary) was a fine normal day at work. Then on Tuesday, my boss called me to find out why my cash bag was $200 dollars short. (!) Wednesday, I got "interviewed" as to what happened. All I knew what that I had 2 $100's and 2 $50's on Monday and when they counted the money the fifties and the 100 was gone. I didn't take it. I don't need it. $200 is worth throwing so much away for and generally screwing myself over. This other cashier (a lifer, this 45 something year old woman who can get no better job in life and is sketchy) did have access to my bag because she was counting out near it while I wasn't there and before the boss had locked it in the safe. Hobby Lobby isnt really high-tech and also is very trusting. They told me that they had to tell the DM and he would prolly bring people from Loss Prevention and I would have to take a polygraph. No problem, I didnt do anything so I had no worries. Well, yesterday, I finally decided to color in a coloring book in my locker that I hadn't touched in like 2 months due to reading homework at lunch, and the money was behind the crayons. I didn't have a lock on the locker because all I had in there was crayons. Except the money was 1 $100 and some 20's and 10's. I freaked, called the manager, had witnesses, and generally treated the money like a dead hand found in my locker. My boss was cool and believed me but the DM had to play that whole bad cop thing.

So I needed the luck today because the DM was coming. I was scared. He tried to intimidate me into telling the "truth". He said he would get the sheriff involved. So, I said, I'll just tell him the same truth that I'm telling the DM cause its the only truth I know. It's the only truth that I have. So he sent me to this other room and was going to have me write down everything I knew but first I insisted that if I had to take a polygraph, that other cashier had to too. While I was writing everything out, she went in and confessed and got fired and escorted out. Then they called me and told me I was safe. My boss and the co manager knew I was gonna be ok, I just had to get by the DM who's this over paranoid cop wannabe. :P
But I'm cleared!
I luck out though, if she hadn't confessed, after I got done writing, the DM was gonna call the cops in and then I would be in lotsa trouble. All this and I didn't even do anything! I didn't even do anything to make that other cashier mad! She was gonna ruin my life to get some money to pay a bill! Oh if I ever run into her on the street or at a store....grrrr....*Evil Dezi is plotting and just being generally evil*

But it's all good now!

One week to go.

Get to drive up to Dallas again tomorrow for my old roomie's wedding. It will actually be the first wedding I've ever attended so hopefully it will be intersting and fun. got my suit laid out thout it has not been worn in four years, little dusty. And for the record, I hate NECKTIES. I think they are leashes to be dragged along by or self-stangulation devices, depending on the mood. My opinion of course.

Sequels-
Hmm, I think it depends entirely on how the first movie ended. For ones Like X-men, which had a very obvious "lead into the sequel" ending it was fine, The second was just as good as the first. Lord of the Rings was always meant to have all three parts so you have the anticipation of the next. Star Wars, well, Let's just hope old George does not let his three year old pick the title again. However, it is not always as well handled, Example: Matrix Reloaded. Entertaining, however more holes and irregularities in the plot and story than heads that got chopped off in Sleepy Hallow.
Then there are the ones like 2 Fast 2 Furious. Lots of fun, fast cars, fans service and what not, but the first did not need a sequel and if they try for a third it will be boring and lack any point other than the glory of the 80's "Bang Bang Shoot'em up" Hey, I'm still a "Tango and Cash" fan, I loved that SUV with the side mounted mini gun, but even destroying a bunch of really nice cars gets old after 2 hours. Probably why I find NASCAR only exciting in the last 10 laps and sometimes not at all.
As for what makes me want to go spend all my tip money on a ticket. Well, first of all, if anyone will go with me. Yes, I will miss out on good flicks on the silver screen just becuase I don't like going by myself. (yes, Greg, that's why I missed Gangs of New York) I know what I like to see in a movie and sometimes I'm let down, but at least if I have someone or a group with me I have people to talk about it with, thus getting my money's worth. I'll watch almost anything once.

Niamhgold- your link is not working, or at least not for me.
<<Well, I can't say I'll be *coming*, but I'll certainly be *attending*!>> I shouldn't say anything, but you can guess what I'm thinking *looks at Spacie*

Patrick-That was bad man :P ;)

Spacie-<<Going to be great to see you again. SMOOCH>> :D
<<Now I know I gotta try to make sure I can go next year>> Hoo boy, Canada. Better start saving now.

Hello everyone,

Out of school and looking for work, gives a guy a lot of time to think. I thought I'd introduce a nwe topic in hopes of picking things up.

What does everyone think about the 'Summer of the sequels'? Do sequels by and large; excite, disappoint, of fall somewhere in between? What sequels have lived up to the hype or became a big dud?

The other big question is what do you think it takes for a sequel to make it. McMovies are here to stay. What would you like to see to make it worth the $7 - $10?

Hey, don't look at me! ;)

Right now, I'm taking a break from working on some SeaWorld and Lego identities, since this past week has been really hectic. We'll be seeing the Hulk tomorrow after work at the Egyptian Muvico. Woot!

In regards to the Hulk, I had at first thought it was going to be lame, but now I'm not so sure. A friend of mine also saw 28 Days Later and gave that two thumbs up. Nothing like a scary movie with zombies to make my night!

Anyone know much about smoke detectors? Mine has been going off randomly (sounding like its dying; but the battery-dying indication is supposed to make it chirp only once ever minute), especially late at night. I can't smell/see smoke in my apartment or hallway, and I can't smell gas from the stove leaking out. It's really annoying, but I get yelled at for leaving the battery out ;)

Gathering: I'm excited for the events, but I'm also hoping to take some time out to go a few places that my coworker has recommended. He'll actually be up in the city for the same weekend, but attending a comic convention in Central Park. I may stop in on him. Also, anyone up for a stop at Image Anime on 6th? It's the best action figure store in town! ::cough cough:: gashapon ::cough cough::

I don't think I'll make the banquet part of gathering, mostly for cost reasons (after all the 4th of July is the following weekend) ;) But, maybe it can work out. On the other hand, I'm sure there's cool places to eat in the city, too.

In other news, I'm disappointed to see that my purity score (thespark.com) has only gone down to 75%, while my coworkers scored 44% or lower. According to the sex text, I'll only have sex with 4 people in my life (not complaining), I'll love two of them, they'll all be male, and I have a 63% chance of dying during sex ;) Compared to my coworker Meagan (only two years older), who is predicted to have 117 lovers. 72 of them female.

Stephen: <No, dear, just breathing hard> LOL. Well, I can't say I'll be *coming*, but I'll certainly be *attending*!

Christine: <everybody's going to post their Gathering diaries and photos for the rest of us, yes> I'm too poor to invest in a digital camera right now. I may get my act together and get a one-time-use one, but that'll only promise me about 24 shots, and I'm not a good photographer ;)

Gside: <It's those AB people who we don't really need.> A-, baby! My dad's the one who's always getting pimped out for the O blood.

And to see a really creepy pic of what my friend Paul does with a digital camera, my face, and an action figure, clicky my name link ;)

Adios!

Gside: <Not too bad. Actually, I've been going through my backlog of IEEE magazines, and read somthing about someone proposing to store hydrogen with a borox type solution.>
Yeah, I remember that from PopSci and Discover. Good in theory, but I really have to wonder how practical it will be to replace the Borax solution or powder at a gas station without swapping out tanks because I remember that it has to go through a process to be recharged, and quite frankly, I SEVERELY doubt that tank swapping will be well met by the average consumer.
I kinda liked the hydrogen-bonded metal powder idea myself, but I think that for the first dozen years of the fuel cell’s life will be fed by bottled hydrogen or in-car processed methanol.

Jan -

<Imagine your nephew without medication> That was last Friday night when he stayed at my house. <medication is a good thing for those who are ADD and/or ADHD> Seriously, if we could reproduce the results and knew how to undo the effect, there wouldn't be an army that couldn't be conquered. It does worry me, though. <and parents who yell that teachers only want to medicate their child so that they will have a room full of zombies and make their job a piece of cake.> The problem is separating normal behavior from the extreme behavior. One big problem is he doesn't want to take responsibility for his actions. I've told him if he calls me a name, he gets hit. The problem is when he calls me a name, he tries to dodge the punishment. He says he's sorry, but I have trouble believing he's sorry for anything except being caught. <helping your nephew to keep himself under control> It's ludicrious. If any part of his body itches, he doesn't have the self-control NOT to stratch. Having a child like that really sets a parent for abuse allegations. Really scary thought: What if Alexander Xanatos got either ADD or ADHD?

Jan - I get really tired of having to dish out punishment and am started to get worried about losing my cool around him. Normally, I am very calm, but by the end of the day, getting angry with him produces a large amount of anderaline (spelling?). Any suggestions on ways to keep myself from going over board?

Lain > Get a cheap webcam and mount it where it gets a good view of your front door and entry area. That way you'll have proof of her getting in. What you do with it afterward depends on how you feel about the whole situation but at least you'll get over the creepy suspicious feeling that someone might be looking things over while you're out.

Gathering News: Just added another guest: Paul Lacy. He was one of the original R&D fellows who worked with Greg on putting together the presentation for Disney that you've seen at Gatherings past. Who knows what surprise will turn up next? Don't be left out. You can always reghister at the door! Banquet too.

I just got done watching the Ring. I don't like it. :P
Saw Signs earlier this week too. That one freaked me out. The whole leave it to your imagination thing. I also have always had this fear (since childhood) about the big black eyed aliens abducting me. Saw it on the cover of a supermarket tabloid at an age where I was old enough to read and yet young enough to be that impressionable. (And no that wasn't like two weeks ago-it was when I was like 7). Anyways that movie played on that fear in me to the extreme. And I have an active imagination. Blah.

yeah so i get this note from my landlady today, saying she had "found one of my cats in the hallway" had unlocked and opened my door to put it back and seen sputnik (who is beige, not black like the others) and then proceeds to lecture me about city regulations of only having 2 animals and whatever. fine and good, were trying to find a new home for that cat anyways because aside from being illegal, its just too expensive. problem is; there is no way that one of my cats was in the hallway.
i am always rediculously careful about keeping the cats in (since the kira-falling-out-window episode) and none certainly got out when i went to work yesterday. she says she returned the cat at about 11:30 last night, which is total crap because i was home at that time and working AT MY COMPUTER which is RIGHT BY THE DOOR. so.. she must have been in my apartment - because there is no other explanation. gj was home all night and didnt open the door or hear anyone knocking (as the landlady claimed she had).
so.. id really like to know whats going on here. either she was in my place without permission - or somebody else was. i am currently feeling extremely uncomfortable with this situation.
i am very glad to be moving in 2 weeks.

Gside: <Right, but what kind of volume ratio can you get off one of those?>
Well, I went to a gas cylinder manufactures website and their best tanks got about a 200/1 compression ratio @ 3000 PSI (A 730 CC container held about 142 liters of compressed gas). (Given, it wasn’t for hydrogen, but it proves the possible compression ratio).I have even heard rumors about a 10,000 PSI tank under development made specifically for hydrogen. The tank is the limiting factor. You can find a compressor that will work. (Keep in mind that I usually consider smaller industrial equipment suitable for home use.)

Oh! Cool link! Make a fuel cell demonstrator!

Imagine your nephew without medication and then place him in a classroom. Add the stimulation from other kids, activities, visuals plastered all over the room and school, programs to attend, and an attempt of a structured environment.... and parents who yell that teachers only want to medicate their child so that they will have a room full of zombies and make their job a piece of cake. This is one of the reasons I quit teaching. I'm glad that your brother has realized the importance of getting the assistance needed in helping your nephew to keep himself under control :)

I have an incident report, but 1st I need to give some background. I live in a valley (ok, the upper part of a valley), surrounded by two hills. On one of the hills is a place that serves alcohol. (Yes, I'll above 21, but no I don't plan on getting drunk). I live next the to highway. D'oh. The road to get to the alcohol joint is before my driveway on one side. Now to the incident. A guy was in a hurry to drive to the place to serve alcohol and started to make the turn to go into the road, but deviated a small bit into my yard. Thankfully power lines and telephone lines were missed. I've been wondering how long it would take before somebody leaving the alcohol joint would plow straight into my yard, missing a turn. Thankfully that day hasn't come yet.

You know, I didn't drink anything on my birthday yesterday, but somehow I woke up feeling like I had a hangover. Is anyone else dying of the heat around here? ;)

Revel: <abundant fuel means no more oil companies>
That’s only partially true. That just means no more gasoline companies. We will still need oil for plastics, airplanes (No way in frell will the FAA allow huge hydrogen tanks on planes), and various other things. Hydrogen just makes it so we don’t need gasoline for our cars. I imagine that a lot of diesel vehicles will still rely on diesel mostly for duration and safety and planes will still need Jet-A, and all those cars will STILL need plastic body panels, so the oil companies may loose out in one sector, but may even gain in a few others.
And besides… the oil companies only have about 25 more years until we are either out of oil, we are using bio-plastics, or we create synthetic oil for plastics.

Gside: <How fast can you make it with gas station sized equipment?>
Well, the electricity may be the biggest problem. Gimme 240V x 100A and I can create a helluva lot of hydrogen out of water. Hell, I’ve used one of those black box power supplies and gotten about a liter an hour, and that was little more than 24 watts. I don’t think it would be too unreasonable to assume that a gas station could create enough hydrogen to fill a car up in under 5 minutes.
<And we still aren't getting good rates out of solar, what with clouds and necessary area.>
Yeah, I know. BUT, we have Nevada! Just need to perfect that technology that can print solar cells on plastic.
<I didn't doubt you could, just that eventually it's a good idea to adapt yourself to a standard schedule, especially if i don't want getting a job to kill me.>
Regular sleep schedules are good… I think. I don’t remember… it’s been so long since I had one that lasted more than a week…

**Stamps into the CR, tearing out his hair with every step**

ARGHHHHHH! This has been the most boring two weeks of my entire life. I've been in my lab for 12-16 hrs a day, every day, for the entire time. What have I done in this time you might ask... I sit at a computer and hit a button every 25min. Someone has to sit with the computer while the analysis is progressing, just in case something goes wrong. To top it all off I still have to analyse the 1032 data points that the program spits out before I know if the experiment worked.

Other than that life's good

Bud-Claire: It's kind of sad that a word like necrosis would be a part of my daily vocabulary, but when you deal with it on a daily basis it just works its way in. Language is a funny thing when you look at it. Each field has their own jargon, which is in itself mearly an evolution of a common root language into a more evolved (specialised might be a better term) form. To those within the field it's natural, it's a part of their life. To those outside however, it is a formidable obstacle. Ever tried to understand a lawyer, hell any professional when they get on a role.

I was at a conference last month and forced myself to make an estimate of the amount of jargon that was used in the presentations alone. In science the major form of jargon is in the form of acronyms. We have a lot of big words (phrases) that you don't want to write out 20 times in a paper so you shorten them (deoxyribonucleic acid = DNA, polymerase chain reaction = PCR, s-Adenosylhomocystine hydrolase = SAHH) you get the idea. These abbreviations become as much, or even a larger part of the language then the root words that spawned them.

It's just an interesting little observation and I can only assume that this happens in every profession (I have tried to talk with a lawyer).

On another note I do hope that you dog is doing well.

Comment about the Gathering: Wish I could be there. Life gets in the way. Have fun everyone and how does Canada sound for down the road.

I didn't realize today was flag day! I just usually ave ok Friday the 13ths and sucky 14ths. Work was busy (I'm a photo tech, it got SLAMMED from 9:30 to about noon), but manageable. AT least no one complained about having their film finished a few minutes late, they all told me to slow down a bit, since I was running around the lab like a hyper squirrel on caffenine.

In other news, I made my hotel reservations! Now we just have to plan getting there. We did decide to take the Amrtak, but about 5 minutets after she left, my dad calls and tells me maube we should take the grehoud since it's MUCh cheaper, so I have to wait until my friend returns my message so we can change travel plans to save $$ (since I'm paying for all this, she better compensate me for all this!)

Just looking at my Were-Cheetah pic makes my think about the Bangles' song "Walk like an Egyptian". It's stuck in my head now...don't be surprized if I start singing it at the con!

Gave blood today at work. I have type O so I try to every now and then make a small effort but the drive was in memory of my Boss's wife who die of cancer late last year.

Fiday the 13 turned put to be one of my luckiest days. Last night a very nasty storm ripped through here with heavy rain and wind. Why is this luck other than it made today nice out? Because it blew the tree the other direction and did not crash down on my car, just right next to it. *WHEW* Now I get to chainsaw it though.

Got a wedding to go to this coming Friday in Dallas for my former roomie. Lot of driving, but that's alright. Then the Gathering. Going to be great to see people again.

FS- The reason Hydrogen escapes so easily, you probably already know this, is because it is the lightess element we know of. Having only one proton makes it extremly small and capable to pass through the tiny space of solid molecules. Yes, hydrogen would make an endlessly abundant fuel, but that is also the problem with it. That is one of the true parts of the movie "Chain Reaction" Cheap, abundant fuel means no more oil companies. They would not like that idea.

My dad asked why don't I mow my yard while my nephew is here. My response in my head: Are you crazy? I'm not leaving him for any period of time or I am asking for a disaster. I took my nephew shopping with me, but I wasn't stupid: I offered a bribe for good behavior. I have a visit to my chiropractor coming up this week and there's no way I could take him with him. no, he will be there full time. he has a storyboarding panel, and will be co-hosting one on series development with Greg Weisman, both on saturday. he will also be in on any Q/A's that are applicable to him.

And yes, Gathering tickets will be available for door purchase at the con, for anyone who isn't sure than can afford one this early.

Pre-registration is now closed. If you want to come to the con and haven't already registered, you'll have to pay at the door the now $65 registration cost. Single-day passes can be bought for $25 for friday or sunday, and $30 for Saturday.

Woo-hoo, 13 days left until Gathering. And a Lilo and Stitch: AS art director. Now *that* is sweet.

Life has been hectic. I finally saw Finding Nemo last night, and rather liked it. I don't know if I like it better than Monster's Inc., but it's still another Pixar winner. And they only have one movie left to produce under Disney contract, before (a) they produce movies with their own tastes without the Disney budget and bomb, or (b) they produce movies with their own tastes with Jobs's money and have even more success. I also liked the Wallace-and-Grommit-looking pigeons that say "MINE?!?" ;)

Triskadecaphobia: I don't have it, though I was targeted by pigeons yesterday on my way to work. Got sushi for lunch, though, and didn't get food poisoning, so I still don't abhore Friday the 13th. Now TODAY, on the other hand, I'm superstitious about, since it's my big 2-1 birthday. So far, it hasn't been too bad (free cake at the supermarket because of Customer Appreciation day), but my friends have plans to "take me out" to the Ottobar. Problem is, I don't think they're planning on a designated driver; as much as I want to try *something* on my bday, I'll happily have nothing if it means I get home alive ;)

Stephen: Congrats! I remember reading "The Gift" a long time ago and loving it (it inspired me to make a bunch of art). Glad to see it in it's, ahem, full glory again!

I know this isn't relly the forum for this, BUT...

***RANT! RANT! DUCK AND COVER!***

When I see news reports on hydrogen power, the number one thing they talk about is transporting it. I see this and I can only think of ONE thing: WTF are you smoking? TRANSPORT hydrogen? Why?

Hydrogen can be made by a chemical reaction, and a lot of chemical companies create hydrogen as a byproduct, true, but that really wouldn't be enough hydrogen to power the planet. I think that hydrogen should be used to power the chemical factory and any leftover gas could be sold to the employees that work there.

The majority of the hydrogen would need to be created by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen. Now, this is just me, but couldn't that be done anywhere there is electricity like at, oh, I don't know... at the FRIGGING GAS STATION? Hydrogen is one of the most explosive gasses on the planet, and it has the nasty habit of going right through pipe walls. SO, we could bury hydrogen pipes at an expense of BILLIONS of dollars (special pipes would need to be used), and still about a quarter of all the hydrogen would leak out.

Some may say “But what about all the electricity that we would need? That would mean more pollution! If you convert hydrogen where there is solar power, it would be cleaner.”
Well, solar power is electricity, and it’s a lot safer, easier and efficient to transport a megawatt of electricity then it is to transport the amount of hydrogen that the energy would create.

So, what do we do? Invest in environmentally friendly electricity creating methods (one thing we would have to do anyway to make hydrogen truly clean), spend money on improving the electrical infrastructure of the planet (which we ALSO need to do anyway, due to increasing demand), and connect water pipes to refueling stations (Say… don’t those already exist?). If fresh water is scarce but there is salt water, even better! Salt improves the electrolysis! What about no water? Well, you need to have gas delivered to you, so water delivery wouldn’t be that much different, now would it?

The point is why ship it and loose a lot of it in transport when you can just create it at the point of use?
That’s my opinion. I don’t care if I am wrong.

ADHD includes hyperactivity while ADD mainly consists of lack of an attention span. This of course in not the only characteristics that are involved with ADD and ADHD and several overlap. You do not have to be hyperactive to be classified as ADD but you are not ADHD without also being ADD. heh :)

Huge news gargs and goyles! While we regret to announce that Brigitte Bako won't be joining us due to a film commitment, we are very pleased to announced that NICHELLE NICHOLS, known to the world over as Star Trek's Lt. Uhura and to Gargoyles fans as Diane Maza, will be joining us
Saturday night at the banquet.

Don't miss your opportunity to have dinner with Nichelle as she answers fan questions at the after dinner Q&A. There will also be an opportunity for you to have our "Gargoyles" memorabilia or Nichelle's latest novel "Saturna's Quest" autographed. Photos for signing will also be available at a nominal fee.

But wait! There's more! Vic Cook, "Gargoyles" Storyboard Artist and Disney Animation Director will be returning to the 7th Annual Gathering of the Gargoyles. Vic will share his insights into the Art of Disney and discuss his latest project: Lilo and Stitch: the Animated Series.

And wait! Even more good stuff! Disney has very graciously agreed to open their vault and lend us a special display of GARGOYLES production artwork for the weekend. Don't miss your chance to see this rare showing of sketches and cels direct from the Disney Archive!

Registration is at the door (after today, June 13th) and tickets for the banquet are still available.

Yea, I'm back. With bragging rights. One of my cats stole a mouse from a . . snake. Also, some cat caught a crawfish.

I'm getting at this program. It keeps giving me bad output. But whenever I go through the program step-by-step by hand, I get the right output. Go figure. Time to start chasing rabbits in the program.

At first I was like, "what the heck is Triskadecaphobia?" And then I realized what day it was...I'm not really afraid of Friday the 13th, it's usually Saturday the 14th that I have bad luck!

Now I'm going back to sleep with my (grey) kitty (she's the one that woke me up!), and then wait for my friend to come over so we can finally make hotel reservations for the gathering! Yeah! 2 weeks left!

Greetings all... got something to share!

[Walks in with an official, olde-style proclomation paper scroll in his hand. Steps up to the head of the room, unrolls the paper and grins before reading...]

I am happy to announce that my first works of
fanfiction - The DeGuy Saga - is making its return to
the world-wide web, courtesy of some great folks that
have convinced me to restore them to the main
Gargoyles Fanfiction Archive (located at
www.gargoyles-fans.org). Eventually, the definetive
body of all of my fics will be reposted there. Some
with brand new scenes added, others with re-worked
scenes to reflect my growth as a writer.

The first of these stories - the one that started it
all - "The Gift", is now posted on the archive for
your (re)viewing pleasure. Come revisit the story that
kicked of a whole new life for the canon cast, and
introduced some new elements to the "Gargoyles"
mythos.

I thank you for your attention, and for your show of
support over the years my work has been absent from
the net... and hope that this new viewing of my first
dip into writing will continue to entertain and
inspire all my readers.

Yours in Imagination,

Stephen R. Sobotka Jr.
writer/editor/ideaman - "MAintain and Check Six!"

P.S. - A request: if anyone has managed to save a copy
of one of my now "lost" works - "A Manhattan Gargoyle
In King Greggor's Court", I would be very appreciative
if you could send me a copy. Many thanks in advance!

Ha ha ha I was listening to the Morning DJ show of one of my local stations. They love to stick it to ya

Let me begin the situation. There is this Seven Eleven where ir you park in the parking lot you can only go into the Seven Eleven. Next to the parking lot is a Starbucks. Now if you wanted to get in and out of Starbucks for a cup of coffee. You park at the 7-11 and run over there. In and back in five minutes. Park in the Parking garage for the Starbucks (and the rest of the shopping center) climb down the several flights of stairs go in and get your coffee and coma back to your car…takes about 12 minutes.

A tow truck company has now been towing cars of those who park and un to the Starbucks. They are hiding around the Seven Eleven and wait for someone to park and head for Starbucks. They know because they have a guy watching the parking lot like a hawk. The tow trucks drive up and latch the trucks to the cars and tow them away in about two minutes.

The main problem with this is, besides being sneaky, is that the drivers don’t EVEN BOTHER to check if someone is still inside the car they are towing. One moron towed away a car with a seven year old inside. I blame both the mother and the driver.

This is how my radio station is sticking it to the tow truck drivers. They have their producer and one of the interns across the street from the Seven Eleven with a bullhorn…warning people not to park in the Seven Eleven unless they are going inside. By the time I turned off the radio they had prevented nine twos and one fender bender.

Tomorrow is Friday the 13th
That leaves you with 3 days till Father’s day.
Already got our shopping done for both that and my Father’s birthday in 8 days.
9 days till summer and Harry Potter
13 days till I pack
Two weeks till I get to be with my Revy
15 days till the Gathering

With every hotel I've ever stayed at for any type of convention, it's been my experience that the rooms are randomly assigned and people can end up anywhere and everywhere. Andrea:> Re: Gathering Discount.

From what I could tellon the hotel's site, there are to "classes" of rooms available. There's the "Penn_5000_Club" (first class - has extra 'busines' related extras such as Broadband access) at $159.95 per night, or the "Superior" (standard) at $95.95 per night (was 89.95 last week) I believe the "Gathering Discount" rate of $125 per night applies to the "Penn_5000_Club" rooms.

So It's cheaper to go on-line and reserve 2 nights in a "Superior" for $191.90 than the "Gathering Discount" - 2 nights in "first class" for $250. But on the otherhad, you will probably be on a different floor than the majority of the "gatherers"

Sorry to leave you with another big decision. :)

Woo-hoo! We're comming to the gathering! We just have to reserve the hotel room, and get some train tickets (we're pretty sure we're taking the Amtrak out of boston). But I have a few questions about that.. (sorry if these are getting annoying, but it's our first time doing this kind of thing, we've never been this far from home alone for more than a day)

I know the hotel site lets you reserve online, but can you still get the "gathering discount", or no? I'd prefer to pay this way, that's why I'm asking. If not, how DO you go about reserving a room over the phone? Like what do you say, etc. I just don't want to sound like a complete moron!

Hopefully, this will be the last question I ask of you all. When we get to the gathering, feel free to kick my butt if you feel you need to out my my annoying you all!

Re: Visa check card - Ditto the comments below. The whole reason the banks are issuing the debit cards with Visa and MC logos is because they can be accepted like any other credit card even though they are linked to your bank account. So as long as you have enough in your checking account to cover one night's room charges at the time you make the reservation (they don't charge the account, they just check to make sure the card has funds available)... they won't even know it's a Visa check card.

All credit cards follow the Luhn checksum algorithm (reverse the number, double every second digit (adding the digits if >9), sum every digit (odds and doubled), it should be divisible by 10). Or my distributed systems teacher was lying when he gave us that RPC project. As a side note, all Discover start with the same 4 digits (6011), all EnRoute have a choice of two (2014, 2149), and most JCB have a choice from a pair (1800 and 2131 for 15 digits, or 3 for 16 digits).

I can't recall ever having been asked how old I was when making a hotel reservation. And all I've ever had to present at check in is a credit card. So I've got wonder how they would even know how old a person was if they didn't volunteer the info. It seems to me your bigger concern is whether they will accept the Visa check card.

Well, I'm going to cal tomorrow...I'm still kinda chicken about doing that (sicne I don't want to sound like a moron or anything....), but I guess since no one else is sure, that's my only option.

However, if they won't let us have a room to ourselves, if there ANYONE who has room in theirs that's willing to share with me and my friend? I'm willing to pay a little extra for your troubles. We are VERY respectful of other people's proporty, and we promise not be be obsence or use such language, if that sort of thing bothers anyone. It's our only hope of going if we aren't old enough to room by ourselves, and we REALLY want to go, we've been waiting like 6 months in anticipation (and of course my parents approve at the LAST FREAKING MINUTE, assuming we can get a room).

Once you're over 18, it all depends on what the hotel's policies are. Some will not rent rooms to younger people under the preconceived notion that teenagers without parents present equal trouble. Others will rent to anyone who's a legal adult over 18. But the only way you can find out for sure what the Hotel Pennsylvania's policies are is by calling and asking.

Hey! I'm back after a LONG time! My friend and I plan on attending the gathering...still trying to win my parents over into letting us, they are slowly leaning to my side (in other words, they haven't given me a flat out no). The main problem is getting a hotel room...we don't know if we will be able to get a room (we're only 19), and we don't have a credit card, but we both have visa debit cards (don't know if they are accepted as well), and we're too chicken to call and ask.

I posted this on the gathering forum, but I'll post here too...any ladies out there still looking for roomies or anything (my dad is paranoid about us rooming with guys, sorry!)? We plan on getting in on the 27th and leave on the 29th. We'll pay our share of the cost, that's not a problem.

We're pretty heavy sleepers, I'm so quiet you'd think I was dead, but my friend will occasionally speak a few words in her sleep.

Anyone who can help us can e-mail me at takarifreak@dark-stars.net. And it is greatly appreciated!

And sorry for the begger-style post, we're getting desperate, and we REALLY want to go!

ART & MONEY!

First off, we have been getting quite a few requests for the release of the con’s schedule. While a few parts of it are still being tweaked, our convention will pretty much go like this:
http://lynativerse.artchicks.org/schedulerough.htm

(our next update will feature details about events and panels, along with an update about our Con Guests.)

Now, the less fun part of our announcements:
Money.

WE NEED YOUR HELP.

Please, register now. The deadline to pre-register
and save on the at-the-door price of admission is just a few
days away- June 13th is the deadline!

In addition, if you have the time and the energy, we are asking fans
to put up fliers for the con, the newest version of which can be found at: http://lynativerse.artchicks.org/ConFlier.jpg

If you know you can’t make it to New York, but you
still want to help us out, a Supporting Membership is
a great way to show your love for the Gathering.
Plus, every supporting member is entered in a random
drawing to receive a free Gathering 2003 T-shirt, the
graphic for which can be found here:
http://www.kantharasloft.com/temp/tshirt-g2003-small.jpg

Also on the free-shirt front, did you know that
everyone who signs up for the Dinner Banquet
receives a free Gargoyles hooded sweatshirt, while supplies last.
C’mon folks, you can’t buy these things anymore, and
we’re *giving* them away. A good meal, a free shirt,
and the chance to ask Greg Weisman a question without
having to wait a year for a response? What more could
you ask for?

(The Banquet is serve-yourself buffet style; kosher and vegan meals are available, please let us know your special needs in advance. The regular Banquet menu can be found here: http://lynativerse.artchicks.org/DinnerBanquet.htm)

And on a final T-shirt note, Gathering shirts of sizes XXL and XXXL, and All sizes of the Othercon t-shirts, are now sold out.

Calling all artists!!!

If you’re unable to attend the Gathering, but you’d
still like us to display or sell your art, time’s
a-wastin’. The deadline for mailed-in art is June 13;
if you need to send your work ahead of you, please contact
us at us at gathering@gargoyles-fans.org or the snail-mail address.

For those of you wishing to sell your art, please
don’t forget to attach a detailed price list. Price
lists should include the following (and keep in mind NY sales
tax just increased to 8.5%)

1. A Flat Price. Choose this option if you do not
wish your art to be auctioned, only sold for set
prices.

2. A Minimum Bid, if you wish your art to be sold by
auction only.

You must choose one of these options.

3. (Optional) If you choose to sell your art by
auction, you may also attach a Reserve or Buy Now
Price, for those of you who wish to give your fans the
option to skip the auction process and purchase your
art directly.

4. A short description of the piece, including title,
media, and anything else you feel is relevant.

For those of you who do intend to sell art, either by
mail in or in person, please note that New York has an
8.25% sales tax, so don’t forget to take that into
account when setting your prices. The easiest way to
do this is to include sales tax in your pricing. That
way, you can keep your prices to round numbers. For
example, a print priced at $25, remember that the
actual price is $23.10, and the other $1.90 is the
tax. The alternative is to keep a calculator and a
box of change handy.

Again, the deadline for mailed in art is June 13th, so
don’t delay, send us those packages now.

And last but not least of the shameless begging, G2003
announces its auction beneficiary: The Gathering 2004.

Falling back on the earliest Gathering traditions, we have decided to make the Gathering of the Gargoyles the sole reason for this year’s auction. We will be splitting all proceeds from this straight down the middle, to help give G2004 the kind of head start it needs.

But we can’t do it without your help. Without your
generous donations, there’s nothing to auction. So,
please, look around your garages, attics, and anyplace
else there might be some spare Gargoyles merchandise,
and bring it along. If you are willing to, or need to mail
things ahead, please contact us at gathering@gargoyles-fans.org
for the address to send it to.

Whether you donate something big or small, remember,
every little bit helps, and we appreciate all the help
we get.

Thank you,

the Gathering staff 2003

Gunjack> <<Echiwow>>: Is that another way of saying "Great Porn"?

Leo> <<What happened?>>: Most of the admins are busy with Gathering prep, so they're a bit out of it.

Christine> <<I never saw _that_ version of Breakout!>>: It was only a matter of time. Everything becomes porn eventually. Kind of like how everything gives you cancer.

Niamhgold> <<we lose a couple posters and the room just falls apart>>: Without the volume, the admins don't have to check in as often.

*decides to slip in*

Last week, I babysat my nephew and it looks like I'll be babysitting him a lot during the summer. Yea, that's income even if I don't get the money right away.

Last week, my kittens disappeared into thin air (I suspect my nephew's presence was a big factor.). Tonight, they suddenly showed up on my back door. Ahh. They're so cute. When I get some money ahead again (don't ask when, I'm not sure yet), I'm going to take pictures of them and their mother, the Hunter. Then, y'all can see the picture of my mascot (that cat is very assertive).

Saturday and Sunday, I spent some time translating some old C code into VB. Sunday afternoon I had to take a break since my brain was getting bored. So I had to stop to play some games to wake it up.

My dad did two things nice today: 1)a while back, the rain did some damage to my driveway, so he had a concrete truck come in and fill the hole. 2)he used his tractor to finally move some metal discs out of the way so I mow that area.

Lain - very good news. Nice to hear about somebody taking advantage of the fine print.

hee hee hee..
my landlady is about to get screwed. she thinks shes gonna screw me but.. it aint happenin!

shes been saying she wants to show my apartment. she has verbally agreed to give me notice. she had said something about someone coming tomorrow, but nothing concrete and no time. i asked her thisevening at about 6pm, and she said she didnt know and would leave me a note on my door when she found out from her husband when he came home at 7:30. its about 10:45 and no note has materialized.

so she probably thinks shes going to put a note on my door tomorrow and she will show it later in the day. heheeheeno. i am armed with research.

"A5: Before entering your apartment the landlord or their employee must give you 24 hours written notice giving a reason as well as a time (the time must be between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.). The landlord must have a good reason to come in, such as to make necessary repairs.

Under the Harris governments' new Tenant "Protection" Act, no notice is necessary in cases of emergencies, or in cases where a notice to terminate the lease (by either the tenant or landlord) has been given, or an agreement to terminate has been made.

so.. a few days ago, i signed this paper that said "you will vacate the premises by the 28th of june." great, fine and good. however, at the bottom of the agreement, signed by my landlady, her husband, and myself it says "we will give you 24 hours notice"

so.. she cant come into my house tomorrow! heeheehee. and im not going to let her. even if the viewee is standing right there :D really, she screwed herself! i win!!!!!

im just happy that i can legally keep her out of my house, as revenge for all the times she just.. waltzed in when i wasnt home to deal with emergencies like.. like.. closing my windows...

Huh? Peeks in -- sees another new board -- enough chaos at the beginning that one isn't even about to try to figure out the top 10 status of the post.

lain > I only grabbed one by the tail, and it was an accident/reflex ... the little scamp isn't named Jumper for no reason and I had to snare him any way I could before the cats got him! But yes, I have instructed Becca that we should try to avoid that.

Hee hee. Dottie-dog just walked nose first (and at quite a quick pace) into our closed patio door after coming back from her night-night walk. BAM! She is a little miffed right now. Please don't laugh too hard, she might hear you and bite me or something.
