Dang there is so much I want to post.(Inluding my Pendragon Reviews)..but with my luck the second I post something the board will wipe. So I'll wait for the wipe.

Sorry if I seem rude. My computer that's in my room(The one I use for writing my fanfics) is at Bestbuy due to a small problem...that and they have to remove a virus that had been dormant for a while...I have a few fics on there that I have yet to save to disk... Yeah I know I've learned my lesson now. I just hope that all that work doesn't go down the tube.

I've just been in a foul mood.

Well, I hope I'm not stealing anyone's color. Assuming, of course, that people here actually keep up-to-date with the TGS stories, how many people think that Arthur and co. are being sent on a quest for the Holy Grail as of the episode entitled "Return to Avalon"?

Think about it: He's been told to seek a path many knights have trodden but he hasn't, and that if he finds what he seeks, it'll be as refreshing as a cup of water to a man dying of thirst.

Anybody agree with my reasoning, or am I completely off my nut here?

TOday was a major cooking day. Working to get rid of the puff pastry we had from a previous experiment. And I whipped my own cream (with electric help, of course). Still think the pudding/whipped cream mixture went wrong, even if it tastes good.

Lain> <<at last.. an internet connection from my own house>>: Yay... Now to wait for Gunjack to return.
<<promptly faints when she sees an actual TGS discussion occurring in the TGS comment room>>: You can always count on Airwalker, and Ed.

Todd> <<anybody want to guess who spilled the beans to Shakespeare about Titania and Bottom?>>: It seems like something a Trickster would do.

Andrea> <<So....any female cannon charaters that haven't been used before?>>: Patrick's done just about all of them.
<<I'm female, and couldn't resemble a man if I tried>>: It just takes some Ace bandages, and maybe a marker if you want a beard. Besides costumes that just don't work aren't necessarially bad (see previous comment).

And because someone asked about it, I have Yakety Sax by Boots Randolph.

I'm starting to reconsider my choice of costume for next year's Masquerade, mainly because I don't want my current idea to have shown up a dozen times already (and no, still won't tell what it is).

So....any female cannon charaters that haven't been used before? I don't really want to go as an original character, I suck at imagination (for Gargoyles, anyway). And I don't want to go as a guy either (seeing how I'm female, and couldn't resemble a man if I tried).

Whatever I choose though, I'm taking my glasses off for it (I don't think I'll be wearing contatcs by then, I have this fear of touching my eye), so I can fit into the role a little better. I just hope I don't walk into any walls or anything....

Almost bedtime. Boy, I'm tried today...

TODD - You wrote: [After reading all this, I rather wonder whether maybe things would have been better for TGS: Pendragon if we'd either not dwelt on the circumstances of Arthur's conception at all, or else used one of the more "cleaned-up versions"]

Actually I'm glad that TGS went with the more unedited version of Arthur's conception; it makes everything more interesting.

You wrote: [Then it wouldn't have interfered quite as much with the intent of portraying Arthur as a hero]

How Arthur was conceived doesn't make him more or less of a hero; after all its not like he had any say in the matter. :-) It does have more of an effect on how to relate to Merlin though - but that isn't such a bad thing. It just makes the character much more complex.

You wrote: [I rather doubt that Greg Weisman would have done much with the story, in light of the S&P issue.]

I understand that GW intended to stick mainly to modern adventures and gloss over as much as possible the more S&P problematic parts of Arthurian Legend. But in involving Morgana in any story, is that really completely possible? Uther could probably be left out and Mordred can be handled much the same way he is in TGS but then what's Morgana's motivation? (Unless they want to handle Morgana the way that she's been done in JUSTICE LEAGUE - where she and Mordred do show up as Mother and Son but not actually mentioning any of the specifics. By the way I thought Merlin's appearance in that episode was pretty good too - regal, angry, sad, arrogent, and judgemental. Very well done. Was the same voice actor as Petros Xanatos and Odin.)

You wrote: [Arthur was the whole reason why he reluctantly assisted Uther, and so while he's around, Merlin still "has" what he was setting out to accomplish in helping Uther.]

That's a good point. Although I'm not so sure that it could really stop an apology as much as it stops him from being properly able to do some actual physical atonement. A verbal apology on the other hand might not be so difficult and while it might not change anything, it could be a very good start. Merlin and Morgana are stuck right now and something radical like an apology on his part might rattle the entire relationship. It would still take time and perhaps wouldn't change anything in the short term but it might be like an earthquake in their long term dealings.

You wrote: [One note about Morgana and Accolon, though; the person really responsible for Accolon's death is Morgana, even if Arthur was the actual killer. Morgana sent him to kill Arthur, after all; it was the case of a murder plot gone wrong.]

Again I do think that her case against Arthur isn't really that strong and that its anger that drives her to strike at him more than anything else. But that anger doesn't really originate from Arthur but from Merlin and the circumstances he helped to create. Just between Morgana and Arthur, I don't think that she would be so driven and so anxious to kill him in modern times. I get the feeling she'd be more content to let him wander around aimlessly like a chicken with his head cut off (which is a little bit of what he was doing before he found Merlin). Its only with Merlin at his side that Arthur really becomes a dangerous player in the game. On his own he has potential but he needs strong guidance to keep that potential directed.

You wrote: [I've got the feeling that I'm in a losing argument, anyway, which is a pity since the way that I want to handle Merlin in TGS]

Maybe we are looking at the situation in the wrong way; perhaps a distinction should be made between MERLIN and EMRYS. Emrys is actually a sympathetic character who has tons of potential and can justify a lot of the praise and benefit of the doubt that his friends do give him. Merlin on the other hand is the cold hearted wizard of 1500 years ago that could make hard decisions with little regret. The problem here is that Emrys isn't really being reconciled with Merlin almost like in his mind they could be two different people. When Emrys deals with Morgana he doesn't have that guilt that should hover between them, he doesn't feel remorse and regret for what he did, and he refuses to acknowledge that as Merlin he was wrong but that as Emrys he has changed and grow and wants to make amends. It makes for wonderful character development - Emrys is a growing and changing character that isn't at terms with the fact that he isn't really completely Merlin anymore and that can be something that is preventing him from accepting responsibility from his time as Merlin. And that he can't really grow up and develop even more until he comes to grips with that, accepts what he is and what he has done, and make peace with it. Until some guilt can hang in the air between him and Morgana, he won't really be Emyrs or Merlin, but someone halfway inbetween both of them.

You wrote: [in the favorable way that his friends in "Pendragon" see him rather than in the way that, according to Airwalker, he's come out as a result of assisting Uther.]

To be honest although he is Merlin, his friends only really deal with Emyrs who is a character that is sympathetic and who doesn't seem like someone who would make the problematic choices that Merlin makes. So I can see why they would relate to him the way that they do. And I can see why Morgana would refuse to see that he has changed a bit in that she hasn't really had the contact with Emyrs that the others have had - she has mainly dealt with Merlin, the magician of olden times. I think that this is an interesting direction that the plot can be taken in. The thing is that up to this point I'm not seeing any reconciliation between the two aspects of the Merlin/Emyrs character. Until he can recognize his guilt and what his actions caused and that he has changed since then and that he wants to atone for it, the Morgana/Merlin relationship is going to remain where it is. She is going to keep wanting him dead and keep hunting him while he is going to keep denying any responsibility for his prior actions and keep the relationship the two of them have at this murderous standstill.

(And it would be extremely entertaining to see Mary help play a big role in all this. At this point Emyrs is still behaving the way that everyone has come to expect him to but perhaps with the current plotline, with him dying, perhaps he might start to revert a bit, to change a bit back to the old Merlin he was and that the shock of it to Mary might prompt the beginnings of a change.)

You wrote: [I suppose that I should have thought out "The Goddess of Winter" much better when I wrote it, and for that I am sorry.]

Don't be sorry! :-) The story is still interesting and the situation that the characters are in is too. If you had left that bit out and sanitized it I don't think that it would be as engrossing. I just brought up my points about Merlin because I can see those highs and lows in the character that make him interesting to read about. At the same time I also feel some strong sympathy for Morgana who tends to get a raw deal from all of the cast, even the ones who should feel some sort of guilt and emotional baggage in dealing with her. She is someone that you could almost admire, pity, be sympathetic for, and still come to hate what she is doing.

**CURRENT TGS EPISODE COMMENTS**

RETURN TO AVALON is more setup for the status quo of the cast for rest of the season than anything else. In fact it might have been better to call in OUT OF THE BLUE Part 2.

I liked the fact that despite all the resources available to the cast that they came up short finding a cure for Merlin. They started out with at least 2 Sorcerors and 2 Libraries worth of Magical Books but can't find a solution. If the situation weren't so tragic for Merlin it would almost be a little bit funny. I'm glad that someone (Brock) had the sense to suggest just up and looking for Morgana but I was a little suprised by how quickly the suggestion was shot down. Yes she would be difficult to find if she doesn't want to be found but thats no reason not to try. Mary knows that Morgana still has feelings for her father and could have made the attempt to contact her through him. Its a lead that can be tried even if it might not be that successful and its not like they had any other great ideas to follow up on. Dismissing the idea that she might have an antidote is silly. They don't really have any evidence other than gut feeling that she has no antidote. Thats no reason not to try looking for her. Its like they needed to dismiss the sensible reaction quickly to get them on an Avalon tour.

And why all the excitement over Avalon? While I could buy Mary and even Arthur bringing up Oberon and Avalon out of desperation what ever happened to not mixing magics? It is human magic that they are fighting, so with all the sorcerors they had around them, why didn't anyone bother to bring that up?

I did like the suddeness with which Arthur and Merlin seized on the idea of heading off to Avalon - it fits in with the desperation and panic they are feeling. In a way while it fits with the discussion of the Merry Persons in the last episode to perhaps start going there own way, its still a big suprise. I was sure that it would at least lead to some changes in the lineup of travellers rather than just have the same small group from S3 wandering around. I was pleased with Griff tagging along but Brianna remaining behind seemed problematic to me. Why should they seperate themselves after all? Just having any Gargoyles with them would slow Arthur and Merlin down on any Avalon tour so if one is already coming them why not two? The only reason at all that Brianna is in London is to be with Griff; if he's not there then she might as well head back up into Scotland to be around her mother. The seperation felt completely artificial - the first time around in S1 it had a point but here there really isn't a compelling reason. Saying that she's just not a knight doesn't mean anything since neither is Mary. And if Merlin is bringing along his girlfriend then why shouldn't Griff bring along his wife? And later on when Griff is talking about all this on Avalon, it feels even more artificial - the only thing keeping Briana in London and away from Griff is him just not asking her to come along with them. Its not like there is any bad blood that anyone in the group would have to deal with. And its not like Brianna is defenseless and unable to contribute to the group. Its like it just never occurred to either of them to stick together when Arthur brings Griff along on his little expiditions. And it doesn't have to be that way so I felt that Griff's sudden realization that he's not going to see Brianna a while and that might not change even after Merlin is cured to be a little hollow. Brianna isn't a Londoner who might want to spend all her time in an English estate. She's a more rugged warrior than he might want to give her credit for and her joining the new round table outright as her own person rather than just Griff's tagalong wife is a strong possibility.

I did like the Merlin/Mary moments. The first one, the Shakespearean discussion was good; filled with sensible questions anyone who'd be going to a mystical island and who's read Shakespeare would want to ask. Loved Mary mentioning Bottom. :-) Mary was particularly good in this episode; her questions once they hit Avalon were very good to inform the audience and seemed like something that someone would really ask if it was the first time they were on a mystic legendary isle.

The goodbyes seemed a bit excessive; after all there was always the possibility that they could ask Titania to send them straight back from Avalon. The Fey aren't so cryptic and aloof that they wouldn't help get some really depressing strangers the hell off their island as soon as possible to whereever they wanted to go directly to. :-)

I don't really like Oberon in general but why is it that everytime he shows up in TGS, he's either obnoxious, annoying, or upset? He was pretty laid back in general in the original series and it just really seems off to have him be pissed off all the time. I don't really think that just saying he's upset about his brother covers it all - he hated his brother too long for Madoc's death to have such a deep effect on him. He's still in a Medieval frame of mind - I don't think he'd take his brother's death as hard as the story wants us to believe. And the reaction to Morgana's spell - again what ever happened to not mixing magics? Oberon goes on about how she's created a PENDRAGON version of DI-7/CV-1000 but it could jut as likely be him mixing magic on a human spell and trying to cover up for it. I can buy Morgana being that powerful but if the spell is that powerful then why is Merlin still alive? Even with some magic power, he's still extremely weakened due to being deaged - if the spell is so bad that it can hurt Oberon then shouldn't Merlin have died by now?

Again I liked the way Mary carried herself in Oberon's court. Mary really comes out very well in this episode, calm and questioning while everyone else is just so damn depressed. (Her reaction to Odin's wolves was hillarious!) Merlin I understand is upset because he's dying but Arthur's lack of direction in life shouldn't be as bad to him as it is given all that he currently has to deal with. I don't mind him upset about it but not knowing what to do with your life isn't the end of the world. Millions of college graduates go through the same thing every single day. :-)

Merlin visiting Madoc's grave was a good way to illustrate some of his development from Merlin into Emyrs; I doubt strongly that the fifth century wizard he was would have felt that much pity for him if he hadn't started to become a little more humble and a little more human than he had ever been before.

All in all its good setup in establishing where everyone stands emotionally and gets a core group on the road but I'm not so sure that going with an Avalon tour was the best idea. The Avalon tour method seems prone to abuse as a shortcut to getting any hero on a random adventure spree in the hopes it'll get them what they want. And here its not even an attempt to get home but to find Merlin a cure. What if where Avalon needs them to be is nowhere near a possible cure? It might have been better to keep them dealing with the real world and travelling without magical assistance; right now the opportunity to feel like an Avalon Tour Redux is strong. Still I'll reserve judgement until I see the entire season. But some of the conflict set up here (Griff and Brianna, Arthur's place in the world) seem overblown and much more easily solved than the heroes and story want us to believe they are. On the other hand the Merlin/Mary situation is developing pretty nicely. Just as we all knew it would. :-) :-) :-) :-)

Back from New Hampshire, and glad to have air conditioning again. Not that interesting of a trip, saw where the Old Man of the Mountain isn't, saw family, and that's about it. Managed to make the trip back in just over six hours. Probably had somthing to do with leaving my mother up there, and only stopping once to get lunch.

Sarge> <<YOU HOAR>>: She's gone grey?
<<the physicality of Elisa ACTUALLY being IN Brooklyn is rather complex>>: Not complex, just needs some lateral thinking.

Kaioto> <<Some of the questions were embarassingly lewd>>: Well, yeah. You gotta have fun, whatever you're doing. I take it you're referring to the "Is he a top or bottom"?
<<the Jersey Shore>>: It wasn't so bad, right?

Mooncat> <<with exquisite tarts and cakes for dessert. I ate three>>: Mmm, the raspberry... Should have grabbed another one of those.

Revel> <<she knows how much the ring cost, but it's not a brag>>: I didn't mean it that way. More of a "how much of the finances is she going to control" thing.
<<Gathering Photos now available>>: Well, I hope Gunjack is happy. Not only is there now a picture of my face, you've also tortured people with an image of my naked flesh.

Lain> <<trapped under and between a box-spring and mattress and the wall until morning>>: You are very weak. Not even able to lever it up and inch out...
<<help you make a reaaaaaaaaally good first impression>>: At least it's memorable.

Wolf> <<How about making the next Gathering in Puerto Rico?>>: Already booked for Canada.

Niamhgold> <<I've uploaded my photos from New York and the Gathering 2003>>: That's even worse, though at least all my clothes are in the right places.

Lynati> <<Can't quite recall the anwser to this one, I was snrrking too hard>>: I think it was a no, they're not that strong.

Jaden> <<Truthfully I only complain when I need to release stress and when physical violence isn't appropriate>>: For the violence, you could always do what one of my ex roomies did and get GTA.

Well, to step away from the Merlin-Arthur-Morgana issue or controversy a little (at least it got a big Pendragon discussion going), I thought that I'd say one other thing about "Out of the Blue".

*SPOILERS FOLLOW *

I earlier mentioned that there were two literary references that I included in it. One Question got: Merlin quoting "King Lear" in his delirium. I made the other a contest, but so far, nobody gave any answers.

Since the next episode of "Pendragon" will "air" tomorrow, I decided that I might as well give the answer now. It's Selden's name.

As "Out of the Blue" (hopefully) made clear, Selden, the guy whom Morgana employed to attack Merlin, was the huntsman in "The Yorkshire Adventure" who was out hunting gargoyle beasts on the Yorkshire Moors but was defeated by Arthur and Dulcinea. He was left anonymous in that episode, but when I was writing "Out of the Blue", I decided that he needed a name and looked around for one to give him.

Now, "The Yorkshire Adventure" is an obvious parody - if a general one - of "The Hound of the Baskervilles", with the whole "ghostly hound on the moors" concept. So I turned to Arthur Conan Doyle's story for ideas, and chose the name Selden from it. The original Selden in Doyle's story was a notorious criminal who broke out of Dartmoor Prison only to become a victim of the hound.

Since July 7 is the traditional birthday of Sherlock Holmes' sidekick, Dr. Watson, there is a certain appropriateness for choosing this day to mention that.

*SPOILERS END *

Todd: I agree with Greg. The way I see it, it's a cycle. Merlin gambled big-time to get Arthur, but didn't count on Mordred or Morgana. He got great good from great evil, but great evil also came from great good. The example is even more compelling in Merlin's family. It's really impossible to judge whether he was right or wrong in the balance: he made choices which he has the live with. Or at least, if it is possible to judge, it's purely a matter for interpretation. And that's what makes it so fun. I'd say that Merlin is still a sympathetic character on balance - he genuinely wants to do the right thing. The fact that he's not always been successful or hasn't always gone about it the right way makes him seem more human to me.

HEATHER - Um, could you rephrase that sentence about Mordred a little, please? Because I honestly couldn't make sense out of it.

(Re the NBC Merlin mini-series; the thing that shook me up about it a little was the way that the Merlin-Mab relationship in it was so much - in its basics - like the Merlin-Madoc relationship in TGS.)

TODD> Don't worry about it. Moral ambiguity is a good thing. Merlin made a mistake, a terrible mistake. Did good come out of it? Yes. Good things can grow out of questionable roots.

Just be thankful the whole Morgana-Arthur-Merlin conflict is as it is. It's not black and white, there is plenty of blame to go around. It's much more interesting this way.

After reading all this, I rather wonder whether maybe things would have been better for TGS: Pendragon if we'd either not dwelt on the circumstances of Arthur's conception at all, or else used one of the more "cleaned-up versions" that one finds in Arthurian children's literature (such as Howard Pyle's version where Igraine was mentioned as being Gorlois's widow without any indication as to how she became a widow). Then it wouldn't have interfered quite as much with the intent of portraying Arthur as a hero (which was clearly how the "Gargoyles" production team wanted to handle him). (I rather doubt that Greg Weisman would have done much with the story, in light of the S&P issue.)

(One other element that occurred to me; I'm not certain that Merlin could deliver a proper apology to Morgana, for one simple reason: Arthur is still alive. Arthur was the whole reason why he reluctantly assisted Uther, and so while he's around, Merlin still "has" what he was setting out to accomplish in helping Uther. I suppose that the best way of putting it is to recall the scene in "Hamlet" where Claudius is feeling guilty over having murdered his brother but knows that he can't repent as yet over it because he still has what he committed the murder to gain: the Danish throne and Gertrude.)

I've got the feeling that I'm in a losing argument, anyway, which is a pity since the way that I want to handle Merlin in TGS (and in anything Arthurian that I write, in general) is in the favorable way that his friends in "Pendragon" see him rather than in the way that, according to Airwalker, he's come out as a result of assisting Uther. I suppose that I should have thought out "The Goddess of Winter" much better when I wrote it, and for that I am sorry.

One note about Morgana and Accolon, though; the person really responsible for Accolon's death is Morgana, even if Arthur was the actual killer. Morgana sent him to kill Arthur, after all; it was the case of a murder plot gone wrong.

Re: Morgana and Merlin

I think what Merlin is truly guilty of here is failing to acknowledge responsibility for his actions.

Destiny, prophecy, causality - all rubbish.

Characters in the Gargoyles universe have always, and will always have free will to choose their actions. While history is immutable in the Gargoyles universe, it is not due to a lack of free will. History is the - result - of free will. No character ever gains a special sort of power through foreknowledge to alter history. Since history is Cyclical in gargoyles, foreknowledge is not just an effect, but a cause of itself.

Merlin's true problem is that he does not truly recognize that the deeds he performed helped to - shape - the future of his visions. Whatever his intentions, he acted. His actions had consequences. Those consequences are his responsibility - not those of some obscure destiny, God, racial discrimination, childhood abuse, or poor parenting.

In respect to responsibility for one's actions, Merlin is very typical of the modern, Western society of this day and age - finding something to blame for our poor behavior, rather than questioning whether or not our character is unacceptably flawed. It is the very same thing Halcyon Renard found so contemptible.

At any rate, for that Morgana is quite justified in despising him.

Merlin did Morgana a grievous injustice. Is killing or harming Merlin going to undo that wrong? Will it create justice? Will it better the world in any way? The answer apparent to the gentle reader is "no" to all of those questions. As a result of this, Morgana has no moral justification for her actions outside of simple ethical egotism: "It is right because it is what I desire."

And, honestly, in the long-term, killing Merlin probably won't improve Morgana's lot in life as much as she feels it would. It really isn't in the best interests of any of the parties concerned, even the deceased. In that respect, the action is also catastrophically stupid on an intellectual level.

But that's just my opinion as a reader

TODD - You wrote: [No, Mordred isn't Morgana's son in TGS; he's her nephew. His mother was Morgause, Morgana's older sister.]

Ok; Thanks for the info. Its been a while since I read through PENDRAGON S1 and I wasn't entirely sure.

You wrote: [I don't think that Gorlois as Arthur's father was an option;]

I didn't mean to say that if Merlin would have backed Gorlois then whatever child he may have had with Igraine if he had lived would have been Arthur; the child in question would have been a entirely different person. The point I was trying to make is that while it certainly was much less complicated for Merlin to back Uther (it eliminates the need for a war of succession) he didn't have to; he could have taken a different route. He could have tried something else instead of blindly following the voices in his head. He would have had to deal with an entirely different set of circumstances but who is to say that would have been worse than what he did? (And in the end all he really did was delay the inevitable war - instead of fighting everything out when Uther died before a reign of peace was established, the war came later between Arthur and Mordred and shattered whatever peace happened to be left.)

You wrote: [The most likely result of Gorlois slaying Uther would have been the powerful nobles all fighting each other for the throne, the way that they did between Uther's death and Arthur's pulling the Sword out of the Stone]

The problem between Uthers death and Arthur becoming King is that Merlin is mainly sitting on the sidelines and trying to direct Arthur to the destiny that Merlin had a vision about. Without Uther and thus without Arthur, Merlin may have had to take a more direct role to achieve his goal. Who is to say that the situation would be so unstable if Merlin decided to back Gorlois or some other noble and force the formation of a coalition at worst or a united Kingdom at best?

You wrote: [Also, Merlin's prophetic visions had all stated that Uther was to be Arthur's father, with no other options.]

The problem here is the visions in general; prophecy can be a very dangerous thing. And its not always really what will happen but rather a warning about what could, should, or might happen. Merlin made it into a prophecy by trying to force the situation and make the good parts come true. He could have stood back and let things develop independently - without backing either Uther or Gorlois the odds are still good that Gorlois would have lost and Uther would have captured Igraine. But Merlin decided to play with fate. (It fits his personality to do so; he's a bit humbled in PENDRAGON but then again he's a bit vulnerable due to being deaged - classically he's always been a bit aloof and pigheaded.)

Its almost like Madoc in a way - when he was expelled from Avalon the Weird Sisters showed him some sort of "vision" about a Human/Gargoyle allience and he then spent the next ten thousand years trying to kill all Gargoyles to prevent it from happening. The problem was that it was more likely than not that he was being played by the Sisters who gave him an idea that kept him distracted during his stay in the mortal world. Who knows how much sooner he might have recovered his powers and moved on Avalon if he hadn't wasted most of his time and resources on hunting Gargoyles?

Its almost the same with Merlin except he's the one generating these "visions" instead of getting them from some outside source. He let the visions set the pace for himself rather than trying to live in the present and deal with the problems that arose as they came to him. He was so concerned with Arthur being born so that reality would match the picture of the future in his head that he crossed red lines and made questionable decisions. And in the end he still didn't get what he wanted - Camelot fell and the situation he was trying to avoid happened anyway.

You wrote: [If Gorlois had defeated Uther, all hopes of Arthur ever having been born would be dashed.]

The real question should be "If Merlin didn't interfer would that have kept Arthur from being conceived?" And of course "Would things have been better or worse in the long run if Arthur hadn't existed at all?"

You wrote: [I would still argue that Morgana's bent towards Arthur and Merlin is revenge rather than justice, for two reasons:]

I'd say that towards Arthur its more classical revenge than anything else. But again I believe her moves against Merlin are much more justified. I don't think that its just a straight out "all she wants is just revenge" direction she has. Its not exactly clear cut - on the one hand with Arthur it is revenge since her motivation is something that can burn out and eventually be put aside by her. But with Merlin its not simple revenge - she has a larger bit of justice on her side than anyone is willing to give her credit for even if her approach to obtaining that is wrong.

You wrote: [Her focus instead is on the fact that Uther did it to her family, rather than that he did it.]

I agree that her response as you put it above is questionable. After all we don't really know if she would be so driven and upset about it if it hadn't been her family that suffered from it and instead it had been some close friend that it happened to. But at the same time isn't the above much more of a human response? Its much easier to relate and be driven by personally felt pain than by what happens to someone else. I'm not trying to argue that Morgana is not currently a villain or that her methods are particularly good (or rational) or that she is a moral person herself. What I am trying to say is that Merlin is not as clean and pure a character as the rest of the cast (and his girlfriend in particular) want to make him out to be, that he hasn't really felt guilty (or done anything about it) for what his actions have done to Morgana, and that everyone is completely ready to forgive and justify his actions while at the same time deny completely that Morgana has any right to feel the way she does.

You wrote: [either going to the law about it and letting the duly appointed magistrates handle the issue (but for the motive of justice rather than vindictiveness) - which, admittedly, would be very difficult at best under the circumstances]

In theory that is what should be done but realistically can you imagine her doing that in any court of law in any place on Earth? (Well ok, maybe in California and Brussles but even then it'd still be a long shot. :-) )

"Your Honor, I'm Morgana Le Fay and I want you to arrest that teenager over there for conspiracy and murder. Why? Because he's really Merlin the Magician who helped Uther Pendragon kill my father and rape my mother. I also want you to arrest his guardian. Why? Because he happens to be King Arthur and he murdered my lover 1500 years ago. Plus I'd like to sue them both for massive mental and emotional distress."

Lets be realistic when dealing with Immortals and other various long lived legendary/mythological beings - its not going to end up in court and they have to deal with it themselves. Saying that Morgana should take them to court to prove that she just wants justice is an unfair method to gauge whether she's looking for justice or revenge.

You wrote: [or personally talking to Arthur and Merlin about it, making it clear that what had happened to her parents was wrong, and getting them to apologize to her.]

At this point it should be pretty clear to Arthur and Merlin why she's doing what she's doing. They both seem extremely indifferent. Arthur being Arthur (i.e. a King and on top of that slightly dim and block headed) doesn't bother me so much with his reaction; it seems the way a King would react to someone trying to kill him. But Merlin doesn't even have an aura of guilt surrounding him when he sees her. It doesn't hang in the air around the two of them when they deal with each other. His role in what happened doesn't bother him, as if having felt a little bad while helping Uther makes up for everything. He has no regrets and seems more upset and annoyed that Morgana has the nerve to keep bothering him about it, like its just ancient history to him that he doesn't really care about.

On top of all that I don't think that an apology is going to fix everything. If Arthur really seemed remorseful I think that after a while (a century or two) she'd accept it or at least use it as an excuse to leave the vendetta behind. With him its more anger driven revenge that can burn out after a while. But its not that simple with Merlin; even if he really felt sorry (which he doesn't) the trauma he helped cause her is deeper (ala the Batman syndrome you mentioned earlier). Her moves against Merlin aren't just anger driven, they are hate driven and something like that isn't just going to stop because he starts whining that he's sorry. Thats something that a child can say to make everything all better. An adult like Merlin is going to eventually have to deal with consequences and that might mean being killed.

You wrote: [Instead, she's gone for vigilante actions such as setting up the Connection business]

That plot just made no sense to me; who in their right mind is going to believe that King Arthur is alive and well and living secretly in Britain right now? Come on, its not like he's Elvis. :-) :-) That was a major part of her plan and how was it supposed to come about anyway? Just cause they both said so? Again his being revealed to the world isn't like the Gargoyles being revealed. Gargoyles being revealed means that there is a race that was thought mythical and extinct really still alive; its like discovering live dinosaurs. But saying King Arthur is alive is completely different - he's a specific individual who lived 1500 years ago and who should either be dead by now or have shown up when Britain really needed him - sometime in 1939 or 1940. If anything most of the public should be dismissing him as a crackpot actor and he shouldn't be able to show his face in England without someone giving him a strange look. (That more than anything should be enough motivation to leave the country.)

You wrote: [hiring a hit-man to attack Merlin.]

Actually that was the first normal, rational, sane thing she's done. No big schemes, just get him poisoned. In fact it would have made more sense to just put a bullet in his head more than anything else. Merlin, Arthur, and his Merry Persons are so off guard for an attack from someone who knows who they are and where they are that it shouldn't be that difficult to assassinate them. Even the London Clan is off guard - why let Arthur near the shop that keeps their Clan alive and fed just so he can visit Merlin if the entire public is looking for him? Do they want to be uncovered? Michael spends most of his time glaring at Brianna or being concerned over her human friend that he doesn't seem to have time to be concerned about what might happen to the shop.

You wrote: [Morgana is going about it through extra-legal measures rather than through the proper avenues.]

Again, what legal measures is she able to take? To say that makes what she's doing complete revenge is unreasonable. Its like saying that Macbeth should take Demona to a tribunal because she committed treason against him in an independent city state that hasn't existed for 900 years. Immortals and such aren't going to end up in a court of any kind unless they are Fey in which case what they do can be dumped in Oberon's lap.

I'm not saying that Morgana hasn't become a villain over time much like Macbeth had. In fact some of her schemes are so outlandish and illogical that only a villain could have come up with them. And I'm not saying that every approach she takes is right or that she hasn't gathered some guilt for what she has done. But I'm am saying that Merlin isn't as clean and just as everyone wants to make him out to be and Morgana has more of a case and a point than anyone wants to give her credit for.

I'm trying this new color instead of the violet for a bit...Hope it's not too annoying...

Anyhow, I have a bit of sad news. Yesterday was the graduation party of one of our "family" members (we're not blood related, but its the family my mom grew up with, and close enough to be family). It was fun, in about 5 minutes the pool went from empty to like 15 of us, and we threw balls at each other and used the half dozen squirt guns, and made a whirlpool. The party was going great, and everyone was having a good time. Soon after, right in the middle of serving cake, we noticec the oldest of the crew (he's pushing 83, and the grandfather of the graduate) had his head titled back and was having trouble breathing. A few of us thought he was choking at first, but he hadn't had anything to eat in a bit. Half of us rushed to him, and we got him to snap out of it a bit and regain conciousness as someone called 911. I didn't see anymore from that point, since I was requested to help huddle the little ones into the house and keep them occupied. Tha ambulance came rather quickly, and took him to the hospital, while a few followed shortly after. We stayed and helped to clean up the place, and right before we left, we got a call. No body had got to seem his since they arrived at the hospital, but we think he had a mild heart attack or stroke (he has a history of heart problems). We did find out they were running some tests, and that he should've come ot the hospital a few days before, since he might have had a series to small heart attacks in the past few days. we heard he HAD been a little bit out of it the past few days, but not enough to be overly concerned about, and it could easily have been blamed on the heat.

We haven't heard anything else, and we're assuming that no news is good news (we'd know they'd call us if it took a turn for the worse), and my mom's up there now.

I really hope he's okay, while I was never really close with him (they have many other grandkids to spoil), he's the only grandfather figure I've had in my life (mine have passed away, one before I was born). We all feel really bad that it "ruined" the graduation party, but we all agree that the best time (if you could call it that) to have a medical emergency is when 20 people are around you...

I fell better getting that off my chest, I needed to vent it out to someone.

Anyway, I tink we're in need to a room wipe soon...

Sorry for the double post, but a bit more about Morgana.

I would still argue that Morgana's bent towards Arthur and Merlin is revenge rather than justice, for two reasons:

1. If Morgana was being motivated by justice, her focus would be on the fact that what Uther did was wrong because he lusted after the wife of one of his vassals, made war on that vassal, and took the vassal's wife by force, a case of the strong preying upon the weak and abuse of power. Her focus instead is on the fact that Uther did it to her family, rather than that he did it.

2. In order for it to be justice, Morgana would have to be doing one of two things; either going to the law about it and letting the duly appointed magistrates handle the issue (but for the motive of justice rather than vindictiveness) - which, admittedly, would be very difficult at best under the circumstances - or personally talking to Arthur and Merlin about it, making it clear that what had happened to her parents was wrong, and getting them to apologize to her. Instead, she's gone for vigilante actions such as setting up the Connection business (in the course of which she sold guns to criminals who used them to commit violent crimes, and even attempted to assassinate the Royal Family so that Arthur could be made to appear guilty) and hiring a hit-man to attack Merlin. Regardless of the right or wrong of her cause, Morgana is going about it through extra-legal measures rather than through the proper avenues.

AIRWALKER - No, Mordred isn't Morgana's son in TGS; he's her nephew. His mother was Morgause, Morgana's older sister.

I don't think that Gorlois as Arthur's father was an option; Gorlois was not King of Britain, and even if he had succeeded in killing Uther, I doubt that he could have succeeded to the throne just like that. The most likely result of Gorlois slaying Uther would have been the powerful nobles all fighting each other for the throne, the way that they did between Uther's death and Arthur's pulling the Sword out of the Stone (Uther's family had not been an especially fruitful one; he had no close living relatives at the time of the war with Gorlois, and at the time of his death, the only family member that he had was his son Arthur, meaning that he had no legal heirs apart from Arthur), which would have plunged Britain into chaos and anarchy. Also, Merlin's prophetic visions had all stated that Uther was to be Arthur's father, with no other options. (Not too surprisingly given that he was the only man in Britain with any serious legal claim to the throne.) If Gorlois had defeated Uther, all hopes of Arthur ever having been born would be dashed.

TODD - You wrote: [We have had some discussion from time to time over whether "Pendragon" should be focused more around Arthur or more around the two gargoyle clans with Arthur becoming more of a recurring ally like, say, Matt Bluestone in "Gargoyles" - largely thanks to the fact that most of the staff found gargoyles easier to write about over King Arthur, a pre-existing "legendary figure" who needs to be researched]

I don't mind at all if PENDRAGON focuses on Arthur; the series is named after him so it wouldn't make much sense to not have him be the star of the series. Mainly I just wanted to know not if the London and Caledonian clans would star but if they would continue to have strong, recurring roles in the series. I personally find the two clans to be one of the more interesting creations of TGS in general and don't want to see all that happened up to this point brushed under the rug just to get Arthur on the road again. I'm not really interested in a return to early Season One PENDRAGON where its mainly Arthur wandering around almost aimlessly dumping Information on Griff and the Audience.

I'd personally prefer that if Arthur goes on the road again that he keep Griff with him and brings along Brianna too so that we can move forward in the series but at the same time retain a connection to the cast and developments of the previous seasons.

You wrote: [However, we've decided in the end to stick with the focus on Arthur (particularly since we agreed that we needed one cycle in TGS that focused on humans rather than on gargoyles).]

But isn't BAD GUYS a cycle thats going to also focus on Humans rather than Gargoyles? After all its main cast is much more Human based than any of the other series. Even PENDRAGON has a strong Gargoyle base to it since after all Arthur does in the end up to this point operate out of either the Soho Shop or the London Clan Estate. But BAD GUYS is mainly a Human cast operating on its own out of a Paris base and with only a slight Gargoyle connection through Kai. (And since he's in exile I figure that his Clan being a base isn't going to come up that much.)

ED - You wrote: [And a year is a big old ball park figure to throw around.]

I don't think I have so much of a problem with that specific number as much as its so cliche; I only have a year to live! Oy vey! And it doesn't help matters that immediately after that Arthur goes all dramatic, pulling out his sword and swearing to find a cure. If I were actually in the room at the moment I'd either groan at the whole spectacle or start giggling. Arthur seems to switch out of modernspeak to medievalspeak with such little warning that when it happens it can be jarring and throw the feel of the scene off a bit, to me at least.

TODD - You wrote: [First off, the person most responsible for the miseries of Morgana's childhood is neither Arthur nor Merlin but Uther Pendragon.]

Uther is responsible for setting into motion a lot of the misery that Morgana suffers but while you do mention that Merlin does also share some responsibility you try to minimize it. Rather than allow Uther to have his way and help him get Igraine, Merlin did have another option. He could have done nothing, and not interfer. As you said the war was already on, so his doing nothing to help Uther who didn't actually deserve any help considering his motives would not have changed anything major other than the duration of the conflict. But once Merlin got involved he can't just have the guilt shaken off of himself so easily. I can see how he could rationalize the whole thing to himself but he still knew right from wrong. And it couldn't be much clearer than in the war that Uther launched. He just had a bigger plan that he was following so he ignored the morality of the matters and did what he had to do to get what he wanted. He wanted Arthur to be born and found Camelot; everything else to get that done was secondary.

You wrote: [And Merlin felt genuinely uncomfortable and regretful over having to do this]

However bad he felt about it, he still went through with it. And not only that but did he really make an attempt to deal with his mistake? Did he take Morgana in or at least try to keep an eye on her, to try to play if not the part of surrogate father than at least benevolent uncle, to make up for the part he played in helping Uther steal both her father and mother from her? He felt bad and then moved on to something else. She on the other hand had to deal with the consequences.

You wrote: [Technically speaking, one could argue that Gorlois bears much of the responsibility for his own death, in that it came about through his making a reckless sortie upon Uther's army, which greatly outnumbered his men, against all common sense]

He was fighting a war against a man whos main goal was to take his wife from him. Even if it was tactically bad and he probably should have tried to come up with a better way to fight against Uther, I still can't condemn his motivation to fight. This wasn't a replay of the Trojan War and Gorlois wasn't in the wrong here. Tactics isn't the point - Gorlois didn't just die because of bad tactics but because Uther went to war with him out of lust for the man's wife. On top of everything no one bothers to bring up the point that Merlin could have also chosen to help Gorlois rather than Uther. Merlin chose Uther to make his dream of Camelot come true; Gorlois' only crime was loving his wife and trying to protect her honor. Who is to say that Igraine couldn't have had a son with Gorlois who would have done at least as well as Arthur did?

You wrote: [So the real villain who brought about Morgana's unhappiness was Uther, rather than Merlin (a reluctant accomplice, doing what he did only because there was no way left to bring about Arthur's birth)]

Uther is the villain but Merlin's hands are not clean either no matter how reluctant in what he did. Its not just that he felt bad about it that matters. He lent a hand to doing it. That is the bottom line. And he got over his bad feelings pretty quickly; guilt doesn't haunt his dealings with Morgana. No matter how bitter enemies they might be, I never get this feeling of guilt hovering above him when he sees her. He just gets angry that she wants revenge and everyone else tells him that he's right and she's wrong. Just once I'd like to see someone there tell Merlin off just on the moral viewpoint of it all, tell him that even if he has a right to be angry at her for what she is doing, he doesn't have a right to feel not guilty despite however bad he felt when he helped Uther out. Right now we have Mary and Arthur and their band of Merry Persons basically letting him gloss over the issue.

You wrote: [Arthur himself, who hadn't even been born yet.]

I don't remember all the details of PENDRAGON S1 - did TGS keep Mordred as her son too or not? If it did then Arthur killed her son and thats a pretty good enough reason to hate him and want to hurt him no matter how many centuries have passed.

I do know that she keeps talking about how Arthur had her first love killed which would explain why she's still so hate filled and bitter after all these centuries; after all you never forget your first love and especially when he's been killed by your brother.

There is also the fact that Arthur is the living reminder of Uther's war for her mother; Arthur is a reminder that Uther killed her father and won her mother as a spoil of war. That alone would be bad enough but then Arthur went and interfered in her life on top of everything else. Still I would say that her case against Arthur isn't as strong as the one she has against Merlin. I always felt that if she did kill Merlin then she might let Arthur go on the idea that without Merlin around, Arthur would just make a big mess of things and that he's really just a mortal puppet for Merlin. (After all wasn't Merlin long gone when Camelot started to fall apart?)

You wrote: [Perhaps the real reason why she goes after Arthur and Merlin so is that Uther's beyond her reach but she feels the need to go after *somebody*, and Arthur and Merlin are the only people left for that;]

I think she goes after Arthur just on instinct and that if Merlin were out of the way she'd content herself with keeping an eye on him and making sure that he can't independently get anywhere near a position of power that could cause her trouble. But Merlin, on that I think its real hate that drives her. I don't think she'd leave him alone until he was dead because while Arthur can be a pest, he's almost a little helpless until he gets together with Merlin. They're a dynamic duo and without Merlin, I can figure Morgana seeing Arthur as being Jason Todd Robin. :-)

You wrote: [In any case, regardless of whatever wrongs Morgana's suffered, what she is doing is still wrong because what she's after is not justice but revenge.]

In terms of dealing with Arthur and is mainly clear out revenge; her problems with Arthur are something that she could eventually let go (unless we're in the Mordred is Morgana's son in which case its not something she can let go) but Merlin is a different story. I can see that as her trying to get justice for her mother and father in dealing with him.

In the end I don't think he's ever made a genuine attempt to express real shame and sorrow to her for his actions in his dealings with Uther Pendragon and to atone for it. If he had done that it wouldn't erase what he had done and wouldn't make him any less guilty but it would make her attempts to move against him less justice based and more revenge based.

You wrote: [She has no more right to hunt Arthur and Merlin down to avenge Gorlois's death than the Canmores did to hunt down every gargoyle that they could find to avenge Demona's crimes against their family]

The parallel your trying to draw doesn't work. The Canmore Trio are hunting all Gargoyles for what Demona did to their father, Demona and the Captain were punishing the entire Castle population for Katherine and the Magus' behavior but Morgana is only after two people who have actually wronged her - Merlin and Arthur. She isn't interested in killing all the direct descendents of Camelot or even to go after other survivers like Lancelot. They aren't involved. The others in the PENDRAGON cast get involved because they are Arthur's merry persons and tend to tag along everywhere he goes but they aren't the main target and if Merlin and Arthur were to be killed, that would be the end of Morgana's moves. She wouldn't hunt down all the aquaintances and family of those two. (And Goliath's hunt of the Canmore Trio for Angela isn't misdirected - his anger was clouding his judgement of how to act but they did attack and almost kill Angela. He didn't just start attacking random Humans to avenge her.)

SIR PYROS - I think that one crucial feature of Morgana's quest for revenge is that the initial events that prompted it (the death of her father and Uther breaking up her family) took place while she was still a child. Call it the "Bruce Wayne Syndrome", if you like, based on Greg Weisman's remark, in his essay about the differences between Goliath and Batman, that while Goliath could move on from the Wyvern Massacre because it happened when he was an adult, Bruce could never move on from the murder of his parents because it happened when he was only a child. I think that Morgana received a similar psychological "scarred for life" case.

(Also, feuds and vendettas are a lot easier to get into than to get out of. Note that the Canmores continued to hunt Demona even long after they'd forgotten why they originally started hunting her - as the lost scene between Elisa and Jason Canmore in "Hunter's Moon" pointed out.)

Sorry I keep raving about my cats, but I have more news! Cleo can fetch! I was sitting in my chair, and I threw her catnip mouse, and for like an hour, she kept bringing it back to me! She fell off the ottoman a few times, and a couple of times she dropped it my mom's shoes, and forgot to pick it up 3 or 4 times and sat there waiting for me to throw it...

And me, being the Moron that I am, forgot to pick up my pictures! I guess I'll have to do that on Monday then...

And in a few days, I'm getting a special present in the mail! I can't wait! It's something I bought off ebay, and I paid for it like the second I won the auction (and I refreshed it about every 3 minutes for the last 3 hours of it, man I'm pathetic!)

And Spacebabie & Revel, I know you've heard this 40,000 times by now, but congrats!

Greetings;

Fire Storm: That link's about the Birdman suit for skydiving. It's actually a very interesting development for the sport. Basically, it uses fabric between the arms and torso, as well as between the legs to double the surface area of the jumper. This allows slows the speed of a jumper down to about 60kph. This is a substantial reduction from the normal speed, which is well in excess of 120kph. The suits are about as safe as a regular jump, although the makers of the suit will not sell to you unless you have greater than 200 jumps recorded. The suits have a safety cut-off that can be used in an emergency, but you still need training to avoid panic. To date there has never been an accident with these suits (although previous incarnations of the suit have killed their designers), and once I log in enough jumps you can sign me up (5 down, 195 to go).

Revel and Spacebabie: Congratulations, I wish you the best on this next step in your lives.

Good Night

****Mild spoilers for PENDRAGON season 1 and TIMEDANCER****

Sir Pyros,Relm of Fire, Order of the Storm Casters - I got the impression from "The Stone of Destiney" from Season 1 and the TIMEDANCER episode "Spirits of the Vastly Deep" (or something like that, it guest starred the villains from King HENRY IV PART 2) that Morgana did manage to put her obssession with Arthur and Merlin behind her for a few centuries and moved on with her life. Her conversation with her hallucinations in "Stone" gave me the impression that some part of Morgana would love to forget the vhendetta and just live a normal life as Morgana Cornish. The reason why she doesn't, again based mostly on "Stone" is that she is afraid Arthur will somehow destroy her life as Morgana Cornish. When she was a child Uther Pendragon tore her family apart, pretty much scarring her for life, then when she was an adult she had managed to create a fairly comfortable existence as a noblewoman complete with daughter and a lover, Accolon (did I spell that right?), until she lost it all in the aftermath of her false Excalibur scheme, but of course she blames Arthur for that rather than herself. Morgana seems to believe that the Pendragon family has destroyed her life and loved ones twice already and may do so again if she doesn't stage a pre-empitve strike. that's what mde the end of "Once and Future King" so satisfying for me because she seemed to have lost her Cornish identity as a result of her actions. To me, Morgana seems to be motivated by fear of losing the life she's built for herself as much as by a grudge against our heros. That may complicate any attempt at peace between Morgana and Arthur (or on the flipside, facilitate it).

Oh BTW, I love your title

Todd: While it has been a while since I read all of Pendragon (I still really like the flashbacks the best), but it strikes me that Morgana would have calmed down slightly in 1500 years, possibly even to the point of seeing the truth that Merlin was NOT responsible (which you agree she probably knows), AND seeing that she was actually only out for revenge, would see how pointless it really is. Plus, didn't she have a hand in the death of Arthur? I would think that would help her find a bit of closure, even if it is not Merlin. Add to that Merlin was not really seen for at least 1200 years, and there is no one really around to stoke the fire of her hatred. (Demona's hatred lasted so long because she almost constantly saw humans killing/hurting/hunting gargoyles, and if she ever calmed down a little, there always was the hunters that were directly trying to hunt her. Why the hunters continue to hunt is a matter all in it's self, but that's off topic)

I just can't see a woman as educated and well traveled (I am assuming that she at LEAST traveled Europe a few times in the 1500 years of her life) could harbor such a grudge for so long with out any real encouragement. Sure, the works of Geoffrey of Monmouth and Sir Thomas Malory and the modern Arthurian movies may restore some of the feelings from the past, but I think the bite of those stories weakened over time, maybe even to the point of her even able to read the books, see the movies, etc and just have fun pointing out historical inaccuracies.

Personally, I think that while she may not be able to completely forgive Merlin and Arthur, maybe she would be able to either find peace with what happened to her father or simply be able to move on with her life. (OR... maybe she would go down the path of redemption, apologizing to Merlin and Arthur for what trouble she caused)

Ah, just my opinion.

AIRWALKER - I'm afraid that I'm going to have to disagree with you on Morgana. Yes, Morgana has undergone much suffering and yes, Arthur and Merlin are connected to it. But that still doesn't make what she's doing right.

First off, the person most responsible for the miseries of Morgana's childhood is neither Arthur nor Merlin but Uther Pendragon. It was Uther who lusted after Igraine, declared war on Gorlois so as to win her for himself, invaded Cornwall, and besieged Gorlois's castles. It was Uther whose men slew Gorlois. It was Uther who, after Gorlois's death, married Igraine, then sent Morgana off to a nunnery and her sisters off to marry two of his nobles, splitting up the family.

Merlin bears some responsibility for the trouble in helping Uther impersonate Gorlois to seduce Igraine. But he didn't cause Uther to fall in love with Igraine or to attack Gorlois; those events had already taken place before Uther sent for him, and it was too late for Merlin to change them. And, while his helping Uther seduce Igraine was morally problematic, he honestly had hardly any other options. (The fact that Uther and Gorlois were already at war, a war which could only end with one or the other's death, meant that a feud between their families was now already in motion.) And Merlin felt genuinely uncomfortable and regretful over having to do this - though Uther (who never even had any awareness that his union with Igraine would produce a hero-king like Arthur) did not.

(Technically speaking, one could argue that Gorlois bears much of the responsibility for his own death, in that it came about through his making a reckless sortie upon Uther's army, which greatly outnumbered his men, against all common sense; Geoffrey of Monmouth and Sir Thomas Malory also viewed Gorlois's act as foolish and ill-advised, I might add. It was almost the 5th century equivalent of Charles Canmore getting himself killed by attacking Demona at Notre Dame.)

So the real villain who brought about Morgana's unhappiness was Uther, rather than Merlin (a reluctant accomplice, doing what he did only because there was no way left to bring about Arthur's birth) or Arthur himself, who hadn't even been born yet. I suspect that Morgana knows that; however, Uther died from natural causes before she ever had the opportunity to seek revenge upon him, leaving her in a frustrated mode (a bit like Goliath after the Captain of the Guard and Hakon fell off the cliff before he could get at them). Perhaps the real reason why she goes after Arthur and Merlin so is that Uther's beyond her reach but she feels the need to go after *somebody*, and Arthur and Merlin are the only people left for that; since they're still alive, they're still within her reach.

In any case, regardless of whatever wrongs Morgana's suffered, what she is doing is still wrong because what she's after is not justice but revenge. She has no more right to hunt Arthur and Merlin down to avenge Gorlois's death than the Canmores did to hunt down every gargoyle that they could find to avenge Demona's crimes against their family or Demona and the Captain of the Guard did to betray the human population of Castle Wyvern to the Vikings to avenge Princess Katharine's treatment of the Wyvern clan or Goliath did to wage war upon the Canmores to avenge Angela's near death at their hands. Revenge never solves anything. It only creates more misery.

*** “Out of the Blue” Spoilers ***

Dezi: The way I see it, Merlin has a lot of experience with magic and sorcery, knows pretty well after all those years how much his body can take, has probably been there while Una has been doing her own calculations that come up with the same conclusion. And a year is a big old ball park figure to throw around.

Wolf Urameshi: As far as I know, the next ‘Timedancer’ isn’t in development yet. Look out for ‘Bad Guys’ and ‘Gargoyles’ sooner.

Poor Barry White. I'd gone and named my car after him. And, oddly, they both passed away in the same year...

Happy Fourth! I'm going to crash, now, since I just came back from a really large party (and, yes, my van *did* overheat). Got to see four sets of regional fireworks, though. By far, Baltimore's Inner Harbor had some of the best.

Will think about fixing van tomorrow, when I'm not going to kick it ;)

I've also added 3D animation to my website, too, on the Storyboards and Animation page. Wheee!

My we have some interesting Gathering Journals! I was going to write one, but after what happened (if you don't already know, please don't ask!), I don't want to think about it anymore (and even if I neglected to mention it at all, there'd be a big gap!). Maybe I'll post some of my better pictures on my website when I pick them up tomorrow afternoon.

My kitties have been civil lately, although I thibnk Lola is getting Jealous, since Cleo HAS sat on my lap a few times when Lola wants too. But hey, at least Lola still comes in my room! It's her only safe haven from Cleo (I'm not letting the squirt into my room, she'll get lost, and if she come on my bed when Lola's there, all hell will break loose).

Unfortunatly, I have to work at 8 am (*cough* I'm jumping with joy *cough*), so I have to go to bed now...

AIRWALKER - Thanks for your review. Re your remarks about the London and Caledonian clans: we have had some discussion from time to time over whether "Pendragon" should be focused more around Arthur or more around the two gargoyle clans with Arthur becoming more of a recurring ally like, say, Matt Bluestone in "Gargoyles" - largely thanks to the fact that most of the staff found gargoyles easier to write about (because they're a specific invention of the series "Gargoyles" and of the TGS continuation of it) over King Arthur, a pre-existing "legendary figure" who needs to be researched (I know a lot about the topic, of course, but many of the other staffers don't, and feel intimidated thereby). However, we've decided in the end to stick with the focus on Arthur (particularly since we agreed that we needed one cycle in TGS that focused on humans rather than on gargoyles).

Incidentally, happy Fourth of July, everybody! (By rights, we really should be celebrating Independence Day on the second of July, which was when the Continental Congress actually voted for independence - however, we wound up celebrating it on July 4 because they put the Declaration of Independence through Edits before making it official, and anybody here who's done any work on TGS Edits can easily guess how that went.)

**VARIOUS TGS COMMENTS**

Finally! I was beginning to lose hope but it was worth the wait. There seem to be very interesting things in store for the PENDRAGON cast this season; I don't mind the swing back in the direction of dealing more with Arthur specifically since after all this spinoff is named after him but I hope that it doesn't mean that the London and Scottish Clans are going to fall off the radar with the exception of Griff. (In fact while I was glad that Griff showed up it would have been nice for Brianna to also make an appearance; I'm not sure that Griff can do the travelling Knight route again without her coming along.)

I am skeptical of the entire Arthur's true identity being revealed; the skepticism that was put forward by that one scientist in the TV tidbits was realistic but even given the events that led to Arthur's cover being blown (which I don't completely remember in detail - it has been a while) I find it very hard to believe that the British population is going to take the idea seriously. Its not the same as the revelation that Gargoyles exist; its one thing to say that a race that was thought to be mythological and extinct is discovered to exist. Its theoretically possible. Its another thing to say that a person who nobody is even sure really existed about 1500 years ago is still alive and wandering around. Its not something that I think could really be taken seriously by the general public. I figure the reaction would be "King Arthur? Yeah, right! Get back to your Star Trek convention Chewbacka!" I wouldn't even have figured it would come out much in public debate except as a highly unlikely theory that only a hardcore fringe would focus on. And that focus would be more likely to be internet based than popping up on a British version of MEET THE PRESS.

On top of that there seems to be a lack of followthrough on the revelation of his identity; aside from some talk on TV it didn't have an effect on Arthur's movements. The Gargoyles aren't getting together to fret over the fact that if Arthur keeps hanging out at the manor or the shop that it could get their main source of livelyhood in danger, not to mention get their clan exposed completely. The story wants us to take Arthur's cover being blown seriously but doesn't show us any drawbacks to it. If it is such a big deal then something should be happening. If its just some Brit scientists arguing on TV and then it blows over then everyone was making too big a deal out of it at the beginning of the episode.

I do like the implication of a readjustment in the core Human cast. It makes sense for Rory to make an attempt to bow out although now that Arthur is going to hit the road it might make more sense for Rory to go with him. Heading home to sleep on his father's couch is going to get on his nerves after a while. (And what happened to the Banshee? Wasn't she hanging around with Rory? I thought that there was an interesting possibility to set up a Triangle between Rory, Molly, and whatshername, the Spanish Horsewoman.)

I like Morgana as a character but the entire plot in this episode doesn't make any sense. If she could get away with having Merlin and Arthur quietly killed like this then why bother to have gone through everything else that she did before? Why not catch them off guard before or even later on? They are at her mercy at every moment (and having them be off guard with all the attempt to hype the King Arthur revelation in the story makes it less realistic; Merlin was joking around but he's not really a teenager and isn't an idiot either, so why have him caught so off guard in such a tense period of time?).

I agree with Taleweaver on this; Morgana seems to swing from Scott Evil moments of Clarity (poisoning Merlin, FINALLY instead of just whining) to Dr. Evil moments of Stupidity (revealing everything to Mary in a hope of winning her over when even a moron can see she's not in the mood to trust and even if she was the info Morgana was giving up is going to upset her). Either she has to deal with Arthur and Merlin or give up on revenge.

Morgana is one of the more interesting characters in the series and I actually sympathize with her rather than Arthur or Merlin. She has a ton of legitimate reasons to hate the two of them and want them dead. And personally I'd back her over Arthur and Merlin in an arguement. But the way she goes about this goes from rational to illogical almost instantly and it kills the flow in the story. It makes it hard to take her seriously when she does stuff like that.

(Although I disagreed with Mary telling her to give up on revenge - at the very least Merlin deserves some payback for some of what he did. I don't even think we've had a moment where either of them have actually apologized; having some guilt they just can't seem to move forward in dealing with her. They are stuck just reacting to her rather than really dealing with her. Morgana has no closure and Arthur/Merlin won't help her get any either.)

Also why is it that whenever someone is dying they always only have either 6 months or 1 year to live? It felt a little corny to me that everyone is standing around saying "Oh yeah, you've only got a year to live!" and Arthur gets all dramatic, pulling out Excalibur and swear to find a cure. I kept hearing in the back of my head Doctor Nick popping in at that moment and saying "Hi Everybody!", "Hi Dr. Nick!". :-) (That needs to be illustrated.)

But it is a good way to get Arthur out of England and on some sort of a quest. I'm curious to see how he reacts to the rest of the world since he's been mainly in England since the series began. Although I hope in the future that someone brings up the point to Arthur that despite how much he might have to follow through on some of these quests, that they really do distract him from taking a deep look at himself and his place in the modern world. He was about to do that with his comments in this episode about how he expected to become King on waking up but instead has no real place in the world only to suddenly have a quest jump up and get his mind off of everything. Could he be subconsciously looking for these quests?

All in all it is not bad for an opening episode; this season has promise.

first off, there was Thom himself, who-perhaps a bit bored with lack of questions aimed to him- would throw out random bits of trivia, often in first person persepctive from Lexington...
"you know, Broadway buggered me in the rookery once..."
(this we learned was just spokem for shock value, since both Thom and greg later told there was nothing, ever, sexual between the trio, with Thom clarifying, "they're my brothers.")

...then there was me, who is anal-retentive on details and interested in obscure trivia. I didn't ask what I didn't think may have actually been an issue, tho... (was wondering in particular how this made it past S&P)
"since we have the dates in-canon for 'Eye of the beholder', and you've told us in Ask Greg the date Alexander was born, is he illegitimate or just premature?"
(Apparently a non-issue, but with a note that both Fox and Xanatos would have been careful enough to ensure no pregnancy was possible while they were just dating)

...Mara, who has no shame...
"Would a gargoyle bukkake scene cause bruising?"
(Can't quite recall the anwser to this one, I was snrrking too hard)

...and Anna, who has no tact...
"So, what's the deal with Lexington- is he gay or what?"
(I'm sure you've all heard the anwser to this by now.)

Got home last night, verra verra late. Still decompressing, but will try and get the first part of a Gathering Journal up tonight. Glad Princess and my return flights were yesterday, as today La Guardia Airport was EVACUATED when a possible bomb in a car was reported. It has since be found to be a hoax bomb, but that would have scarpered our travel plans.

As it was, air to ground lightening in Dallas kept me grounded longer than anticipated, then delayed airplane maintanence, then the airline had to get a new pilot for our plane as the one who would have flown us expired (rather like milk) as the delays pushed him over the 16 hour max a pilot could be on duty. I didn't take it too badly, because Safety First, but having to jog to EIGHT different gate changes in the HUGE Dallas airport was not fun.

I losts 3 or 4 pounds during the Gathering, and that was WITH eating very calorie rich foods at the few times we could grab meals. Con Banquet was calorie high, with exquisite tarts and cakes for dessert. I ate three and thought for sure I'd gain 5 pounds after everything. But the constant walking about town and nonstop pace of events made me lose more weight in a week that my at home daily exercise regime of 3 miles of walking with weights, plus diet food. Go figure. No wonder most New Yorkers are so willow slender.

Okay, I'm practically committing journal now so I better get off the computer, and get a nap in. I had to wake up very early this morning for family obligations, after staying up very late to clean up house some from cat devestation-- that old saying, "the mice will play when the cat's away" has nothing on this. Cats will wreak bloody destruction (literally, small incident with a bag of beef blood I'd forgotten to throw out before leaving) if the catslave goes away for a week.

My house sitter only fed and watered the cats daily, no clean up or disipline so when I got back my place was trashed, thrashed, and generally decorated with dried blood and shredded paper and packing supplies. Muchly stuff had been knocked off of tables and scattered far and wide through my domain. Looked like a violent murder scene.

:eek

It didn't help I only had about 4 hours of sleep the night before leaving NY either. :|

HOWEVER --- The Gathering ROCKED!!! And the mini vacation Princess and I got in around the Gathering was pretty awesome too *^_^* -- there was not enough time to do all we wanted, but we really packed in a huge lot of things for the few days we had available, including Broadway Theatere, Coney Island with the after con survivors, impromptu tour of Central Park where Belvadere Castle is, Greenwich Villiage, Little Italy, the edges of China Town, Time Square, shopping at Macy's, adventures on the Metro and more.

whoa... did I mention a nap? After all this I might need a coma! :D

Okay, really, nap now, details and PICTURES later.

Oceans of love, millons of kisses...

Gathering Report:

First, I just want to say "Thank you" to everyone who made this year's Gathering possible. You all rock, some of you especially rock. You know who you are!

Thursday:

Did not sleep enough at all. Got a ride to Logan Airport to pick up Jamie, Lexy's Maid of Honor from the wedding. Lexy and I grab an extremely early commuter rail train into Boston. We made our way from the Red Line to the Orange Line to the Blue Line to the airport shuttle and eventually to Terminal E. Man, that place looks sorry. I hope they finish the renovations soon.

One thing I hate about this place is that whoever is in charge of keeping the flight information current on those electronic displays is a hack. They are never up to date. Despite this, we manage to retrieve Jamie and her luggage.

Friday:

Joy. Friday morning the alarm goes off at around 2 A.M. We catch a ride with my Aunt Christine as she heads in to Boston to open up place she works at up for the Breakfast rush. We haul ourselves into South Station and kick around for about an hour until our train is ready to head off to New York.

Man, now I'm kicking myself that I didn't bring my portable PSOne module with me. Last time I took Amtrak, it was to Chicago on the Lake Shore Limited and they didn't have electrical plug-ins. Apparently the trains that go down to Washington D.C. - do - have them. Well, there goes 4 hours of my life in a feeble attempt to sleep.

This is first time I've taken Amtrak to NYC since 1998 when I went for the "Magic: The Gathering" ProTour. I stayed at the Hotel Pennsylvania that time too. I remember it as a cramped dive of a place. I managed to exit Penn Station incorrectly again and we wind up on the completely wrong side of MSG, circling the block in the longest possible fashion before hitting the hotel. I - hate - playing the clueless tourist.

We get to the hotel and two things stand out almost immediately. The first is that the hotel surfaces (floor, ceiling, walls) have been remodeled well. The second is that the hotel services (check in, personel, etc.) have been remodeled poorly. My reservations are screwed up, several members of the staff are rude, and the room I got shoved in was as cramped as I remembered it - if not more so.

Still, the familiar faces make everything worthwhile. After the mandatory "Who's on first" routine, the hotel staff finally lets the Con Staff set up their registration table and get things moving.

Lexy, Jamie, and I stick to the usual routine and make Thom our mugging victim of choice, and then stick around for the joint Thom / Greg Voice Acting panel. Thom's got a new tattoo on his leg, but one of his beautiful dogs finally passed away after a long life.

Those who get the chance to talk to Thom can't help but discover how deeply he cares for animals, especially his dogs. Lexy is that way about her cats. I was very impressed that he managed to make it to the Gathering and be with everyone only a couple of days after such an emotional shock. Still, everyone was very supportive and friendly with Thom, so it was probably good for him as well.

Opening cerimonies is a blast, as usual. I can't say I ever get tired of the spin-offs, pitches, and stories Greg tells. He's an excellent story-teller, no questions about it.

In the down times I get to hang out a bit and catch up with people I haven't seen in a year. I run a few errands here and there for the Security Staff to help keep things greased as the Staff gets a handle on the Con. I like feeling useful when I'm on vacation.

Hudson's rant was certainly amusing. The "Blue Mug-a-Guest" panel was certainly engaging. Some of the questions were insightful. Some of the questions were embarassingly lewd. The fandom is full of all kinds. Greg and Thom took everything in stride. Actually, the only person capable of really rattling Greg at all was Thom.

I also got some rewarding insight from Greg that he was interested in seeing if Gargoyles could be brought back as a comic book or visual novel under his writing. Greg certainly has a qualified background in comic books and Gargoyles.

The panel went on until around 2 A.M. before building security informed us that the room needed to be closed for the night.

Saturday:

Well, I got up well ahead of Lexy and Jamie and roamed the Cosome way to wind up working with Security on one thing or another. We had one con-goer who was stricken with a crippling migraine that the security staff managed to handle well. For my part, my solution to an inability to find cold water for a compress was to loot one of the rooms for an ice-water pitcher and then proceed to carry it around for like half an hour. Ah well, hanging out with Chris and Hudson and the security crew is never boring, I'll give it that.

Gathering security went well, and we apparently had no property theft or losses on the grounds of the convention. Unfortunately, two con-goers had their wallets stolen by a daring daylight robber. Thankfully, it was not an armed robbery and no one was hurt, but it just goes to illustrate the dangers of having your possessions unsecured in a dense urban area like New York. One "Yoink!" and your stuff is gone.

I got to help set up and view the bulk of the 3x3 Eyes / Roughnecks presentation by Greg that afternoon as well. I - DID - however, miss the Victor Cook + Greg presentation about series development, including their project sneak-peek. Curses, foiled again!

Minor crisis ensued when the Hotel Staff wanted to set up for the Banquet in during the Radio Show. I ran around like a mook until I found Aaron and sacrificed his poor, overworked self to the Hotel Staff. Aaron and the rest of the Con Staff trouble shot that situation quickly once they were alerted.

Saturday is the day when the Banquet is traditionally held. It really is a great time. Lexy wound up at Greg's table, Jamie at Thom's, and I was assigned to a table with Michele Nichols (voice of Diane Maza, actress who played Lt. Uhura on Star Trek, and a recently published science-fiction author). I have to say, Michele has an amazingly warm presence with people, exceptional conversational skills at the dinner table, and amazing taste in clothing and accessories.

Got a nifty Gargoyles hooded sweatshirt for attending the Banquet too. Stylish.

I skipped Rocky Horror and just nosed around the Con Suite and then crashed.

Sunday:

This was going to be a busy day indeed. First I took Lexy to the Auction. By some miracle, I didn't have to spend any money this year. Thank goodness Thom didn't actually action off his boxer shorts like he'd threatened. Lexy got a few autographs and we viewed some art. Then came closing cerimonies. That's always kind of bitter-sweet.

Post-Gathering presented an oportunity to get an early start on general tourism. Jamie had a moral imperative to sees Time Square. We walked all the way up 6th Avenue to see it. We saw all manner of the most outraegous buildings to be raised on God's green Earth. Jamie got to run around the Virgin Megastore. Lexy got a sketch-portrait done by a very pleasant Chinese gentleman.

While waiting on Lexy's drawing, I got to observe an interesting take on the 3-card-monty scam, and watch how the whole block pretty much operated as a cover for the grifters. It was an nicely run 5-person scam with no real slight-of-hand involved. Got to give them credit. However, were I the kind of person managing such a racket, I'd try to select a more diverse-looking crew of accomplices, and make at least a few of them look more like the clueless tourists I was trying to sucker.

Monday:

Monday was tourist day and packing day. We went out one two journeys. The first was near the Lower East Side. We spent a couple of hours buying various trinkets, toys, and baubles in Chinatown. The place is a little crowded and rough, but the people are very friendly to the tourists. We also stopped by the fringed of SoHo so the girls could do some shopping before heading to Little Italy for lunch / dinner. We ate at DeNico's, and I have to tell you that the food was something else.

With an Italian grandmother and an Italian father who likes to cook, I'm not easily impressed by Italian food. Sure, being peasants from Milan doesn't exactly give my family any insight to high-profile dishes, but it tends to make Grandma and Dad more critical of Italian. They passed that on to me by taking me to Boston's North End so often as a kid. Anyway, I digress. DeNico's impressed the heck out of me. The service was excellent, the waiter was everything you could have asked for, and the food was absolutely incredible and not outrageously priced. I think anyone who enjoys food owes it to themselves to visit this place at least once in a lifetime. Oh, and save room for dessert. The menu for dessert may only be 4 or 5 items, but each one is exquisit and the portions are huge for a dessert, in my opinion.

Hmmmm ... Tar Tufo

We dropped off the burden of the packages that females inevitable find themselves purchasing in the lower part of Manhattan and went out again. This time, we went to Downtown and gawked over there. We saw the lower side of Broadway where they hold the parades, the Hudson River, the Jersey Shore, and view Staten Island and the Statue of Liberty from afar (we weren't in time for a ferry out there, maybe next time).

A few sites weren't as enjoyable, but still necessary for me. Having worked for a Financial company for 3 years now, I couldn't help but see Wall Street. We also went to see Ground Zero. I'm not quite sure how to describe that experience. I do recall a small part of me feeling quite cowardly and self-deceptive about not having visited before they santized the area.

At any rate, much walking and shopping and picture-taking was had by all. Nothing was lost or stolen. I even managed to successfully navigate the subway all three times. I was called upon to do so. NYC transit is a LOT more complex and intimidating than Boston, but trains are still trains. I'm just glad I didn't have to juggle busses.

Tuesday:

We packed it in and hauled ourselves back to Boston on Amtrak. I got desparate for something to do on the train and started reading the Harry Potter series against my better judgment. I finished the first two books in roughly 4 hours. They were entertaining and I think I'll pass them on to my oldest nephew now that he's almost skilled enough at reading to handle them. They kind of remind me of the old Hardy Boys novels I read back in elementary school.

Alright, report's over. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Reason #34 for why the Gargoyles should've picked better names:

*cell phone conversations when one suspects the other of cheating can be tough.*

ELISA: I'm sorry I can't come to the castle tonight for that special candle light dinner, I'm on a fresh case.

GOLIATH: Where are you?

ELISA: I'm in Brooklyn. . . .

GOLIATH: YOU HOAR!

Obviously this makes little sense. Not only does Goliath have no justification that Elisa would be cheating on him, but the physicality of Elisa ACTUALLY being IN Brooklyn is rather complex.

Thus that is why the next reason (reason number 35) is much more simplier:

*cell phone*

MATT: I'm sorry I can't come to the castle tonight for that special candle light dinner, I'm on a fresh case.

GOLIATH: Where are you?

MATT: I'm in Brooklyn. . . .

GOLIATH: YOU HOAR!

This has been Sarge Abernathy keeping you fresh on your toes with complex philosophical ideas.

Thank you.

Revel and Spacebabie > Congrats!

Random Gathering weekend observations and musings, since I'm still not quite up to composing a detailed day by day account. In no particular order of significance...

Thom Adcox is an evil, evil man, and you should never, ever whisper to him in front of an audience of people. Just ask Kathy. ;)

It's in the elevators... it's in the airport terminals... you can not escape it. It's CNN. Resitance is futile.

Coney Island on a Sunday night will teach you the true meaning of the word "carny" while simultaneously making you long for the wide open spaces of a Disney Park on the 4th of July weekend.

You can tell the subway is coming before you hear it by the rush of air that shoots through the tunnel ahead of it.

New York is the city that never sleeps, yet it's strangely impossible to find pancakes or donuts in Manhattan at 1 AM. Denny's and IHOP are purely suburban phenomena, apparently.

And finally for tonight...

Bronson Pinchot with a pompadour doing Vinny Barbarino doing Shakespeare is something everyone needs to see at least once in their lifetime.

Spacebabie and Revel > huzzah and congratulations! Wow ... one of these years we've really got to have someone just get married at the Gathering ... I bet Greg would officiate!

Off to Westercon tomorrow. The panel with Larry Niven isn't until Sunday, leaving me ample stage-fright freak-out time. I'll get to visit with some other author pals, and I'm taking part in my first official convention writer's critique workshop. Running an EIB game, too. Never a dull moment! Anybody in the Sea-Tac area over the weekend, drop on by and say hello!

Sabledrake reminder > the deadline for the August issue is Thursday, July 31! Still looking for fiction, art, reviews, and game-related articles.

Fanfic update > it's been a while, but I expect to wrap up the Dissidents series with the final installment, "Castle of Light," very soon. And I hope to write another Godiva bit before starting the next book.

Other news > Black Roses is now available! The print version, anyway. The ongoing "I should have it done by next week" audio book saga continues. Look for it on Amazon.com or request it at your favorite local bookstore.

One more week until Pirates! Forget Matrix, T3, even Return of the King ... this is the movie _I've_ been waiting for! ;)

There's actually some action in the room. Amazing.

And I did read the Pendragon. Pretty good, though whom should be preceded by its preposition (not necessary in dialogue, of course).

Well, I'm leaving for New Hampshire tomorrow, won't be back until Monday. !@#$ second weekend without my connection.

Spacebabie> <<I'm surprised that nobody posted it yet>>: I censor my own vocabulary. Though I'm surprised no one's actually stated the Revelation yet.

Lain> <<survived the joy of being stranded in dinky-town nj>>: Hey. And what were you doing going south?

Spacebabie and Revel> Congratulations.

Revel> <<The man needs his own stand up act>>: Yes, but he'd need to stay away from fandom politics. But he did seem able to handle more general topics, too.
<<Where were all the big spenders?>>: Auctioneering.
<<An Engagement Ring. It was not a surprise to her>>: But does she know the price?
<<I made it offical, or at least the promise of it offical since we are both in school still and need to find jobs and careers first>>: That's the point of an engagement.

Niamhgold> <<NH is not too bad for the Fourth (I suggest going to Portsmouth; they have nice fireworks)>>: I'll take your word for it, though I'm going more for family (grandfather'll be doing a parade, I believe).
<<due to projected traffic and the fact that we may have to come in to work this weekend because of deadlines, I probably won't go up to Jersey this weekend>>: Probably a wise idea. Who wants to drive when everyone else is driving? And why would you want to go to Jersey anyway (yeah, yeah, wassname roomie type)?

Kathy> <<to everyone who helped with the Peanut M & M prank. Thanks>>: Sorry. Is it any better if I haven't eaten mine?

Andrea> <<anyone out there have (or know of anyone else who has) pictures of previous Gatherings?>>: Revel's got some up, and Christine Morgan had good collections when she went.

And for an mp3 while I'm gone, it's the Clearest Indication by Great Big Sea.

Revel and Spacie: Congrats and good luck.

Now I'm wondering which "couples" CR image you'll decide on. :p Since Brooklyn/Sata is already taken by Dreamy and Winterwolf, that leaves:

"Desdemona & Othello" ; "Richard & Quinn" ; "Griff & Brianna" ; "Human Angela & Broadway" (Space Babie's original CR image) ; "Angela & Broadway" ; "Ros & Caspian"

Which will it be...........

[I purposly left out "Elisa and Goliath" because it's occasionally used by Barracuda and, well... I dont think it's "them"] ;)

Well, I got some of my pictures back, some aren't too great, either because my camera flash didn't go off (I KNOW it was on!), or people jumped up in front of me at the last second, so I have a few back of the head shots. Overall though, some came out great.

I'm going to the Gathering next year too, I don't care what my parent's say! I already have an idea for the masquerade too, but I won't tell who I'm going as (assuming I can make the costume, I do have an Easy Sew, but still, my skills are meek. If I start soon, it'll be ready by next August), you'll just have to wait.

BTW, anyone out there have (or know of anyone else who has) pictures of previous Gatherings? I'd like to check them out.

And know that Ask Greg is back open, I've got a few questions that I was too chicken to ask over the weekend.

It's Wednesday and I'm still trying to recover from the Gathering. My shoulders still hurt from lugging stuff around everywhere. Finally meeting everyone face to face and getting lots of hugs made it all worth it no matter how much work it was. (Even if I'm so not doing quite so much next time heh. Course knowing me I will anyway.) I started missing everyone seconds after they left and I don't know how I'm going to make it through the next year but I will and come hell or high water I will be in Montreal. See ya there!

Change of color just for fun...

I'm back. Still kinda sleepy. I had a really good weekend.
Hugs to Mara, Aaron, Carol, Greg, Lynati, Dreamie, Winterwolf, Hudson, Patrick and the Dreamer Clan for hospitality and munchies. Job well done.

It was great to see everyone. The weekend didn't seem nearly long enough.

Hightlights: Let's see... watching everything come together. Meeting Nichelle Nichols who I've admired for years. Hanging out with Thom, Vic and Greg. Catching up with people I haven't seen for a year and meeting new ones for the first time.

Low Lights: Nearly not getting let into a restaurant at midnight in the Village because I didn't have my drivers licence on me. (they finally let me in).
Strangely, Coney Island. Too noisy, too bright, too garish. But I loved Nathan's and walking the boardwalk.

New Pendragon: Good on you guys for putting it over. I look forward to reading it soon.

QUESTION - Actually, the real significance of Merlin's quoting "King Lear" (and congratulations on spotting the source) is that, when the Fool recites the prophecy during the storm scene in the play, he follows it up with "This prophecy Merlin shall make, for I live before his time." I couldn't resist, when I needed something for Merlin to say in his delirium, choosing the Fool's prophecy so as to fulfill that prediction.

Incidentally, there is one other - much more subtle - literary reference in "Out of the Blue". I won't say what it is, however; it's much more fun if you (and I mean everyone here, not just Question) figure it out for yourselves. If nobody guesses it correctly by next week, however, then I will post the answer.

Hello all,
I'm taking off soon for 4th of July. I thought I'd drop my thoughts on the latest Pendragon story before I take off.

* * * Warning! Pendragon Spoilers Ahead! Warning * * *

I'll be mercifully brief. I liked the internal challenge Rory and King Arthur grappled with. Rory needs to be a hero not a bit character to someone else's heroism. I hope the other neo-knights asked themselves this same question. I'm afraid Arthur won't follow up on this. I recall ARthur was in a similar identity crisis at the beginning of last season and the answer was to go on a quest.

I was confused by the whole public debate subplot. It doesn't illustrate the public's reaction, just tosses a lot of scholarly info. Will people mob Arthur on the streets? Is there an Arthurian craze that's sweeping the country? Judging by the neo-knights reaction exposure is a bad thing, but it doesn't look like it cramped their style chasing down Selden. Unlike the gargoyles, there isn't an obvious drawback to public exposure. It just seemed like a non-issue.

I didn't like Morgana's poison plot at all. The whole conflict is staid. Arthur & Merlin won't seriously deal with Morgana. They haven't before why should they now. Morgana won't seriously deal with Arthur & Merlin, like get a gun and just shoot them. She'll throw plan after over-complicated plan at them. I mean she's hasn't even finished covering up her previous plot and she's hatching another one. At one time Morgana offered a Demona-style villain that Pendragon could use. Now, her antics are more buffonish than scary.

Its good to have Pendragon back. I hope we'll see some meaningful character development.

* * * End of Spoilers~ * * *

Well, have a good extended weekend y'all.

Revel: Your Vinnie costume got rave reviews because it was cute AND funny. And...huge congratulations to you and Spacebabie!

Mara: Yes, definitely many thanks go out to you all of the con staff for a great Gathering, in an equally great city. Thanks a million for a fun time, even if I only could stay for two days! (::grumbles about having to go to work::). Maybe I'll see you all next year, who knows?

Gside: Yeah, NH is not too bad for the Fourth (I suggest going to Portsmouth; they have nice fireworks). My email just said that, due to projected traffic and the fact that we may have to come in to work this weekend because of deadlines, I probably won't go up to Jersey this weekend. I do project a visit up there some time; probably not when the rest of the world will be travelling, though ;)

Happy post-gathering, all. If my photos develop nicely, I may scan and post 'em. There's a preview of Thom's ass in there! ;)

I made it back well enough, no problems other than I had to find which passenger pick up my mother was at.

**The gathering for me goes as followed. Some has been deleted for the eyes of the children (no, not for Josh or Greg's benefit) ;)

THURSDAY
I made my flight with no problem, the security in Houston was pathetic and my belt buckle has still yet to set off a metal detector. So I get to La Guardia after having to listen to a chatty co-pilot who wants to talk about Houston, New York and whatever else comes to mind while in flight. The pilot must have thought he was on an air craft carrier becuase after a very hard and fast landing the co=pilot goes "Weclome to La Guardia, home of the short runway."
I got my bag and found where Spacie was to arrive and waited. She made it very easy for me to find her wearing a satin like shirt and short school girl plad skirt with hair in pigtails. No, it was not my idea, but I'm not complaining.
We made it to the hotel with a small transfere at Grand Central as I was expecting and checked our bags. The room was okay, but was very small and did not even hav ea tub in the bathroom. Good thing we only slept there. After some time together we found in the Lobby Hudson, goliath 116, and Ziaus who were on their way to find Chris Rogers. we hung out and watch Hudson play a game or two of Quake 3. After getting some food we were on our way to find where the con staff were. Spaciebabie, was being herself and I said to not scare the Norms. The Norm, turned out to be Greg W, who had grown a beard again. We found the Con Suit and staff. Dinner was at the Monster Sushi. We watched most of Rocky that night before going to bed.

FRIDAY
Had breakfast at the Lindey's down stairs, over priced. I registered and helped set up the art room, with my stuff and getting all the tags ready on other people's work and we constructed the panels for Othercon, which also had lots of nice work. It was unfortunate that they were on seperate floors because many Other Con pieces were deprived of votes I'm sure.
Opening Ceremonies was fun, getting to see the videos and speaches, always get a show of hands of the "Con Virgins" wuite a few as always. It's getting repeaters that is always the trick. I was a volunteer, and watched the art room and Auditioned for the Radio play and also attended "Hudson's Rant." This, in my opinion, is one of my favorite parts. The man needs his own stand up act.
I participated in the late night dart gun game and got a crowd pleaser cheer for jumping over one of the large round tables, though I did break one of the guns. My hat off to Goliath 116 , a worthy shooter.
The last thing I came in on was Thom and Greg W in an Adult "ask what you dare" sorta thing. Lots of fun question and a fun exchange between Thom and Greg W when Thom stated that Lex had a 10 inch tongue. Greg promptly glanced at him and stated, "What the hell are you talking about?!" while laughing. We got kicked out at 2am

SATURDAY

More art room watchdog duty and and some left over pizza from dinner, good pizza though. Found out I was in the Radio play later (kick ass!) and sat around and did a TGS panel which was more like a lunch room chat.
I attended a Costume panel that I ended up in the front of the room with Dreamie telling stories while Lynati got stuff stuff for the panel. My mother would have been better since she makes costumes, but I tried to entertain by doing what I could.
I played Talon in the Radio Play of the Reckoning. good thing we audition, because we all needed work at the start but fell into our roles. Thom fell WAAAAY in.
Masquerade was unfortunately short. so few in costumes but nice costumes. I, for soem reason got a HUGE standing ovation for my Vinnie costume. We won the Cutest Couple award of a pack of M&M's. and I got an award for a picture which will be on site when I update all this.
More Rocky which we did not stay for, you can guess why.

SUNDAY
The auction took most of the time, but unfortunately did not go over that well, a lot of items did not go for as much as they should have. Where were all the big spenders? Closing ceremonies was short and too the point and they tried auction again but it was dead except for Spacie getting Demona and Macbeth figures.
We Visited Ground Zero before Coney Island. Emotions are hard to put in to words as I saw that hole in the earth and in the heart of the city itself, enough on that. Coney Island was fun, rode the cyclone and had a romantic walk on the legendary boardwalk.

MONDAY
Heh, well besided post con activities, we went to Mid town comics, The Empire state Building, souvinere shopping and Chinatown. While shopping for things for family Spacie and I shopped for something that I had been planing to get for her for a little while now. An Engagement Ring. It was not a surprise to her, but I made it offical, or at least the promise of it offical since we are both in school still and need to find jobs and careers first. But yeah, I asked Spacebabie to marry that night and she said yes.

Tuesday
Well, my now Fiance and I basically just stayed together all morning until we got some food and check out time before heading to the airport and the parting to our planes. Thus ending one of the greatest wekends so far in my life.

Aaron and I came in last night, looking at con reports and what not.

Had a blast, thanks to everyone who came, especially those who were there at least in spirit.

More later, when my memories are clearer and I'mless tired.

Our new kitten (whom I mentioned brieflt before the Gathering), is now named Cleo. She and Lola (our current cat, who is nearly 7) are getting along much better. We caught them playing together, and Lola was letting Cleo chase her around the dining room, it was cute. I still think Lola has her insecurites though. In the days I've been home since we've gotten her, she's come to sleep in my room at night (Cleo's not allowed in there, my room's a mess and she'll get lost!). But I DID find them in the same chair yesterday, sleeping about 6 inches from each other. If Lola ever lets Cleo sleep against her, it will be the ultimate of kawaii moments.

Cleo, Like Lola, is going to be a lap sitter, she's already sat with everyone a few times, and most of the time we didn't even call her (she's pretty good at comming when she's called).

Unfortunatly, Lola's screaming to be fed, so I'm going to quit raving about my cats now...

1)Well I guess I was right that you guys are going to do the Holy Grail this season. So does this mean that Arthur has to collect the thirteen treasures this season before reaching Castle Carbonek as according to the prophecy made by Jennifer Camford's father in the season 2 episode "Night of the Weird"?

Also are you guys trying to write Rory out of Pendragon?

2)Finally what was the significance of that King Lear quote from Merlin while he was feverish? Was it suppose to foreshadow even more dangers for England ahead?

Sigh, I'm back after the gathering. All things considered, I did have a good time. Yesterday morning, I did start to feel pretty much 100% okay again, but a discussion that became heated elsewhere has really flushed my self esteem down the toilet. It seems no one ever like to to listen to what I have to say, and I'm even more shut out when I REALLY need to be heard. It's been like this for as long as a can remmeber, and it's becomming the to the point where I'm going mad. Part of me thinks that since nobody lsitens, then I shouldn't say I word. But in reality, I'm a BIG talker, and I can't not speak for very long. I have no idea which side of myself to follow, and it's really confusing me.

Okay, I amdit getting that out felt a little better. Thanks to you all for reading it anyway. I'll try to refrain from posting until I can add something less depressing to the conversaion.

Well, now I'm back, and with all but one of my souvineers and goodies I acquired in Manhattan. The missing item is a book I bought during our little group tour led by A FAN. (I forgot to get it back from Flanker who was kind enough to store it in his backpack)
Both flights to ad from NY were great. Flight from Newport News/Williamsbrug (PHF) to NY (LGA)time was only 1 hour. Return trip was even faster. Only glitch at LGA was a last minute gate change from B8 to B1.

More details will follow in a later post.

*Warpmind wanders in, slightly frayed, singed and pelted with erasers, pencils and dice.*
So I have started DMing my gaming group. The campaign started off with a Minotaur, a Half-Ogre and a Monk walk into a tavern... and, yes, as much as that sounds like the build-up to a joke, the harsh reality of the campaign is even sillier. Especially when the Half-Ogre and the Minotaur, both with negative Intelligence modifiers start scheming to eat the Dwarven Cleric in the party... Thank the Gods for the ability to improvise. :)

In other notes, I now have my very own blog. Woo. Woo.

Oh, and to those of you who managed to get to the Gathering, I hate you all. :) (Jealous? Me? What on earth gave you that idea? :) )

Well, I got back a while ago, but was busy unpacking, eating, and checking up on the net.

As for my weekend, I made the train, checked in earlier than actual check in time, giving me one of the not so great rooms. met a few people in the lobby (SRS JR.), and on the way back from getting rid of my bag caught the elevator down witht the con staff. After registering, I found out that my order was mispacked, giving me a standard shirt and a calendar instead of two shirts (and after getting my order straightened out, I found out saturday night that I got a medium Othercon shirt instead of an XL). A Fan took me and a few four others out to a local deli. Then I got hooked into hauling soda for the con suite. Then I sat in on a discussion, and got dinner with Lain and Gabe at Nathan's. Then was opening ceremonies (Bishansky is not a public speaker (be more confident and I'm sure you'd do fine)), folowed by Hudson ranting. After a bit, I stopped by othercon and stayed for the mug-a-guest, so I was present for the Revelation of the year. Then it was sleepytime.
Saturday I showed up at the teeny TGS panel where I was present for Bishansky getting informed of the security warning, then ate with A Fan again. I skipped the crossover talk for the development talk to see the new project, which didn't excite me all that much. I wasted time in othercon again until the radio play, and the little coexistance mix up with the hotel that delayed it. I helped with the chain of events that lead to Niamhgold get an !@#shot of Thom. At the radio play, I enjoyed enjoyed IRC Goliath's performance as Claw (which he recieved for his follow up question to the Revelation). After that I changed for the banquet. The food was good, especially those raspberry mousse things for desert; I landed a table with Kathy, Mingless, Dylan Blacquire, and Guangalug's foreign contingent. Nichelle Nichols tended to ramble, and seemed to try to promot herself a good bit more than I would have expected. So it was time for the Masquerade. I was there for the commando (flanker) being prompted into getting under the table (never did manage to give my M&Ms to Greg Weisman). Thom recieved a padlocked belt this year. Then I showed up at Niamhgold, Lain, Flanker, and Leo's (and Gabe's) room, bummed a Wyrd print, and watched half of Equilibrium before leaving them to sleep.
The next day nothing much was happening in the auction , so I managed to hook up with Niamhgold for food at the deli again, seeing her off halfway to the Port Authority. Came back to the auction (pestered Revel and Spacebabie a bit), then went down and hung out in othercon (with Emambu, Hudson, Chris Rogers, Guandalug, the Bizz, and a couple others). Then it was time for closing ceremonies, and after that I was across the street to get a train back.

Well, I'm back from Gathering. And I thoroughly hate traffic on I-95 ;) I had to leave early to get back to my apartment at a decent hour, so I apologize to those who I didn't get a chance to say farewell to. I also apologize to the art staff who has to ship my unsold stuff back to me...thanks a billion!

It was fun, I ate way too much, John Clemens and I got an early preview of Thom's turtle boxers, and I met a bunch of cool folks (thanks to those of Clan Arcadia for taking me in for the Times Square dinner (mmm daquiris), for Leo, Gabe, and Lain for dinner and breakfast, and to Gside for lunch at Ben's with all the pickles ;)). I also extend my thanks to Vic Cook for being a motivational speaker to those of us trying to break into the ever-contracting storyboard industry ;)

Oh, and Mara's line-drawing collection rocks! If you decide to do a comic, let us know!

Congrats to Dreamie and Sara Berkley for all their ribbons, and to Lynati for the cool Phoenix Gate...great art, guys!

And, oh yes, who can forget that Owen is Xanatos's Bitch? ;)

Gunjack: Lain definitely got there okay, and I hope she's not too traumatized from having to room with me ;) I know she missed you, and the rest of us had been so eager to meet you ;)

I also learned that, lost as I might get, I prefer walking to my destinations in NYC than I do cabbing them. Greyhound's...another issue.

All right, I desperately need sleeeeeepies. Nite.

The Move continues.did we mention that it had started? ...So anyway, we've got pretty much all our earthly posessions boxed up and on the front lawn. Our friend Nonie was nice enough to offer to help me secure the services of a mover; otherwise, I'd be carrying the entire contents of a house, including furniture and appliances, on my back across six blocks. I wasn't looking forward to that.

Lain, you made it to the gathering okay? Hope you're doing okay... :x

Gabe called, but his crappy cell-phone prevented me from getting to talk to Gside. Dang that stupid atmosphere!

And that's all for now, and maybe for the summer. I'll probably spend the rest of today packing and moving, and there's no more net connection once I pack my computer. All done packing! My parents asked me all day "when are you going to pack?" Um, I only really need 2 days of clothes, gameboy, and munches, that takes 10 minutes to pack! Geez!

We also just got a new kitten (she's actually my sisters, but we share). My cat isn't taking it too well, Lola (my cat) has growled and hissed at new "kitty" (who is namelss right now), then hid under my parents bed. She's such a wuss! She lived for 5 years with my sister old cat, but he's been gone for about 2 years now. I'm almost scared to go to NY now because I won't be home to keep my cat in check. I'm afraid Lola will attack the kitty once she gains the courage to go downstairs to eat (she's a pig), and see kitty in the wrong dish.

Lola is asleep on my bed right now, and will stay there until when she howls at me oh, probably 3 am to be fed, since she never got diner (she's been in hiding).

And it's creepy, but this new kitty looks almost EXACTLY like our old cat, except she's missing the white moutstace Cookie had (both cats have white toes, white tummy, and a white chest, with a little black between the two; think of the cat as wearing a tux if standing on hind legs).

Time for bed soon! See you all in 20 or so hours!

And yeah, I know we'll be wearing nametags. I made that comment because you're more likely to see the top of my head before anything else.

New York is pretty strict about it. Official registered cabs are yellow and will have a green medallion bolted to the hood. Ignore offers of transportation from anyone wandering about inside the terminal... those are the operators of the unregistered, unmarked vehicles without meters, and they are most like looking to "take you for a ride" in more ways than one. Stick with the big yellow cars and vans with the lighted sign on top that say "taxi" and you should be fine. Enforcement by the taxi commission is strict so you can be sure you're getting into a real NY licensed taxi.

Patrick: Concerning cabs; I'm used to the Baltimore bus station where guys dress up their cars to look like cabs, park them outside of the station, and try to get you as fare. I'm just wondering if the same thing happens at Port Authority ;) And, if so, I need to know how easy it is to get a real taxi ;)

It's pretty easy to hail a cab just about anywhere in New York... unless you're a big red beaked gargoyle. ;)

At the airports, there are dispatchers at each terminal who are in charge of bringing the cabs up to the curb as needed. You might find the same sort of thing at the train stations. Look for the information desk or follow the signs for "ground transportation."

Andrea: In any case, you'll have nametags--height not particularly being a distinguishing characteristic unless you're 8-feet tall ;)

If I can make it through today, and some of tomorrow, I *should* be in New York by the opening ceremonies (just fyi to Gabriel and the others ;)). I'm hoping I won't be too tired, but something tells me I'm going to be exhausted from working so late today ;)

See you there. Does anyone know how easy it is to snag a cab from the New York bus station (Port Authority, I think)?

Eek! In just 24 hours, my friend and I shall begin our journey to the gathering! I think I'm pretty easy to spot, I'll be the short chick with glasses (and I might have a star in glitter paint on my hair too, if it comes out right!). I'm really short, only 4'11, and my friend is about 5'5-5'6, and she likes to wear those high-heeled boots (I need them more than she does). So if you see two dark haired chicks where one is short anf the other tall, I think you've found us!

See you all there!

****Warning, Harry Potter Spoilers****

Proof that Rowling is a Gargoyles fan? Well readers have known for a while that Harry has some kind of connection with Voldemort. When V. feels happy, Harry's scar hurts. When V. feels intense hatred, H.'s scar hurts. then we find out that the door can swing both ways and V. can gain some insight as to what Harry is doing and feeling. So if Harry is in pain, V. knows. So? how does this relate to Gargoyles you ask? Well at the very end of the book there is a prophecy revealed that Harry and Voldemort will only die if the other kills him. just like Demona and Macbeth.
Though this "Prophecy" doesn't seem to take into the acount that H. and V. will still age and if one does not eventually kill the other, both will die eventually, it is virtually the same situation as our favorite imortals. I also think that the pain shared between Macbeth and Demona was altered to what it is currently because keeping it the sam was being too obvious and it wouldn't fit the plot quite as well. So, J. K. Rowling a Gargoyle Fan? or just meer coincidence?

Thank GOD! I have two whole weeks to unclench from stress and enjoy myself. Of course, I kick it off in NYC after a full day's ride on a train direct from Tampa... but that's just the deal when one isn't too trusting of airlines yet.

Plan to be in the Big City by 8 or so the 26th... then after dinner and a night's sleep, it's off to the Gathering. (can't believe it's only my second time too.) ^_^

Still have to pack, so I'd better get moving...

Hey Mandi,

Give your hotel a call and ask if they can hold your luggage after check out. I think it depends on the hotel, but most are fairly accomodating in holding a guest's luggage if they leave hours after check out. On our honeymoon in Hong Kong, our return flight wasn't until 11 pm, but we had to check out by 11 am. They kept our luggage with the Bell Captain until we returned.

Another alternative might be to check in the luggage early. This I'm less sure of because I've never done it before, security concerns may want to keep track of both luggage and passenger at the same time and you may not have the money to go back and forth between the airport and city twice in the same day.

But I pretty sure on the first solution. You aren't the first guest whose has a long lag between check out and departure or between arrival and check-in.

Delurking again for one more question:

Is there ANYONE going to the Gathering who's sticking around on Monday night?

I ask this because I just realized; the hotel room is booked Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Due to communication problems and my family's inability to tell me if they can give me a ride to the station or not, my train out of New York leaves at 5 pm.

The problem? Check-out time is 11 a.m.

Is anyone going to have a hotel room during the day where I can put my luggage safely rather than dragging it around for six hours before my train leaves?

I know, I know, but I honestly did not expect I'd be leaving New York so late...

V: <can you get Iron by melting Iron Pyrite (fool's gold)?>
In theory, sure. Iron Pyrite is 1 part iron, 2 parts sulfur.

From the site on my link:
Although pyrite is common and contains a high percentage of iron, it has never been used as a significant source of iron. Iron oxides such as hematite and magnetite, are the primary iron ores. Pyrite is not as ecomonical as these ores possibly due to their tendency to form larger concentrations of more easily mined material. Pyrite would be a potential source of iron if these ores should become scarce.

Pyrite has been mined for its sulfur content though. During WWII, sulfur was in demand as a strategic chemical and North American native sulfur mines were drying up. A sulfide deposit near Ducktown Tenn. was found to be able to mine pyrite and other sulfides such as pyrrhotite and pentlandite and produce the needed sulfur as well as iron and other metals. The sulfur was used in the production of sulfuric acid, an important chemical for industrial purposes. Now most sulfur production comes from H2S gas recovered from natural gas wells.

Gside: < Then here it would be endothermic to add hydrogen, exothermic to get hydrogen out into engine>
It's been WAY too long since my chemistry and physics classes.
Anyway, I found out that the borax solution has to have a catalyst added to make the hydrogen and the "waste" fuel is in liquid form, so it would be a matter of pumping in the new and out the old, where it can then be processed.

Spacebabie - <moustache> -- I'm stripping him of it first chance I get. I would have preferred to do away with the visuals from Goliath Chronicles, but to incorporate the events of The Journey, we had to give him the moustache. But like I said, I'm gunning for it and will have John Castaway's upper lip bare naked soon as can be worked.

This does give me an idea for an art piece though.

I head to the airport the day after tomorrow... Had a horrible nightmare that before they'd let me have my plane ticket I had to take a test, such as "true false the following excerpt is from Macbeth" -- but I couldn't answer because I didn't know the play by heart. Or couldn't find where the 'true' or 'false' marks were to circle one... It was right at flight departure time and in my dream I was almost in tears because I was going to miss the plane. Third nightmare about the Gathering so far. The last one was I was Fox Xanatos and I showed up at the air desk without anything but a jar of pickles. ??? Must be preparation anxiety.

So did everyone enjoy a good Harry Potter day?

I was planning on going to the bookstore yesterday to buy it. My mother was off and she read all four books too. Well Saturday my father asked how much it was going to cost. I didn’t have an estimate. I went ot the B& N official site to get an estimate when what does he do? He hands me the book!

19.95 at Albertson’s under preferred customer deal…and yes he quoted Vinnie.

Nature is fun. I gout out side to weed and I heard this sound. A mix of miffle, snit and a few squeaks. I thought some critter got trapped in the screened in area of the pool near the pineapple plants. I walk towards that area and look at a tree behind the fence. The squirrels were running all over. A third one ran over to join the fray

Yesterday as I was getting the newspaper I heard rapid tapping coming from another tree I look up and there was a woodpecker.

And today while I was wedding I saw a bunch of baby lizards

Two days till I pack
3 days till I see my Revy
4 days till the Gathering
And my head is about to explode.

Lain<<<gathering? here i come>>>We finally get to meet?

Leo<<<Ah, someone's working on an ocelation over thruster>>>Nah somebody is just trying to take over the world.

Gside<<<Tufted or vanilla? >>>Vanilla<<<The entire Snark?>>>Okay…..SNARK!!!!

Josh<<<I hate all of you that actually scored Potter last night.>>>That will be Ginny someday

Gunjack<<<I might point out that she hits first>>>I heard she bites you too.<<<I could SO pull a Golden Boy right now…>>>:::note to self, keep Gunjack away from all toilets:::<<<I'm tempted to put either power supplies or a CPU in em... I'd hate to see that storage space go to waste.>>>In The Apprentice adept series the female robots/androids/and cyborges have hollowed out breasts that opens with a latch and are used to store stuff like make-up and medical supplies…and don’t even think of making a pun about medicine chests.

Dezi<<<Brandon being the least practicing drunk, has completely lost control of himself.>>>Well he did recently turn 21???<<<I'll give him this: he is a very witty drunk. J>>>I can imagine Brooklyn being the same.

Well, just got my bus tickets online...all I need to do now is pack and get munchies for the 4 1/2 hour bus ride. We want to get some shopping done, but we're trying to find the best time, maybe right before opening ceremonies, early Sat morning, or right after the con (meaning we'll leave probably in the middle of closing ceremonies, sicne we have to be at the bus station by 5:30). I can't wait! I'm finnaly going to NY after getting screwed out of that trip for my school band fesitval (we were suuposed to go, but we have to make final plans right after 9/11 happened, and even though the festival wasn't until May, out co-ordinators thought it better to be safe than sorry, and we went to one in Baltimore instead. I'm kinda glad though, since it was I who was the sick one on the trip, it would suck being in NY, where i've always wanted to go, and spend the weekend sick as a dog).

Now if you'll excuse me, I must address the pile of dirty laundry sitting on my floor...Haven't had a dryer for 10 days, and thus I didn't do any washing, since it's better to have dry clothes cluttering my bedroom floor than half soaking wet ones...

It's a dilemma. On the one hand, I am drawing like a man posessed, possibly by the spirit of some OTHER man who has an ACTUAL FAMILIARITY with the concepts of anatomy and perspective. It's like I got up this morning, and all of a sudden I could draw things. I haven't had a sudden jump in talent like this since '97, when I was visiting my grandparents and suddenly rendered a collection of oblongs and ovals that vaguely resembled the human form. Whatever it is, I'm worried that if I go to sleep, it will be gone when I wake up.

On the other hand, it is now approaching five in the morning, and due to my elevated latitude, the sun will presently be reappearing, thus ruining ANY chances of me actually getting some sleep.

So, yeah...
