Sorry double post, but a thought came to mind:
******XE SPOILERS********
About the placing of Cruise Control in the line up:
If you had just unleashed Apocalypse in the last episode, would _you_ just go on a cruise immediately afterwards? I mean, for the most part it was a stand alone ep, with only one reference made to Rogue not feeling well, but it is a feel good ep where they don't know what they are gonna be in for. And I just looked on that XE site, and the next ep is called Impact, dealing with the immediate impact (duh) of unleashing Apocalypse. Won't be too sure until after I see that ep, but sorry choice of placement on the schedulers part, it seems.

***XE SPOILERS***********
"cruise control"
All of the Xmen are on a cruise to shake off their worries. Storm is their shaperone (sp). Amara (Magma) is the only one not having fun, she says later that its because she's spent too long away from solid land). The main group is at breakfast, and this lady that is sitting at a table behind Tabitha (Boom Boom) is being really snotty about her food ("Look at this table! Do you SEE my no-pulp orange juice I asked for? Because I don't!) Tabitha takes matters into her own hands and throws some little booms over her shoulder and into the lady's breakfast. Eggs everywhere. :) The lady freaks, bumps into a waiter carrying a firey dish and the dish falls and sets a table on fire. Jean puts out the fire with her TK, floating the lobster tank over and dumping it. Lobsters everywhere. The water shorts out Kurt's image device and he goes blue. Storm arrives to people running away yelling about mutants. She's not too happy.
The rest of the cruise, the group gets dirty looks from the other guests, at one point Bobby gives the cold chill to pool water that some hecklers are swimming in. They all can't wait to get to the Bahamas so they can disembark for a while. Then the captain announces there is bad weather ahead, so they are gonna sit off shore of this one little island to wait it out, before going on to the Bahamas.
Scott and Jean get all lovey-dovey, so she TK-flys them to the island. Kitty and Kurt see this and of course follow. Amara tells Tabitha that if she doesn't get to solid land soon, she's done for, so Tabitha gets Bobby to make an ice canoe to paddle them to shore. Except for Scott and Jean (i think) they all meet up in this nice hot spring, and Amara is feeling so much better. She swims down and finds the magma source of the hot spring and "connects" with it. The water gets too hot for anyone else to stand, and then earthquakes start. Storm comes to shore to see whats going on, and the volcano starts to erupt. -Sketchy on most of the action here because Brandon started talking to me and getting all confused and asking questions- Amara figures the only way to stop the volcano is to run up to the crater and jump in. The volcano stops, she bonded with it. Basically the whole episode was for her to discover a new measure of her powers. The end.

This was technically one of the four of last seasons unshown episodes. In the original season format, this one was supposed to go before X23 and the Dark Horizons, but since X23 had the most buzz, they led off with that one, and just decided to put Cruise Control in wherever, because it was one of those stand alone eps, no problem.
X23 note: I read on a XE site that the comic people for "Wolverine" like the character X23 so much that they're gonna try to incorporate her into the comics. Pretty cool since she was made up only for the toon.

Actually managed to spend a whole day watching the rest of those DS9 DVD's. And food shopping. And absolutely nothing else. Getting ready for school is SO exhausting ;-)

Anyone want to post XE spoilers? I can't trouble myself to wake up early enough to watch.

Green Baron: <<DISAFAN>>: Careful everyone! GB is channeling the spirit of Jar Jar!

Mooncat: <<you could always *make* DVDs of XE>>: I'd need the hardware to get my DirecTV onto my mac, then a superdrive to use iDVD. Not that any of that is difficult, but it is time-consuming and expensive, and I'd rather spend $40 on a boxed set.
<<you have to tear yourself away from the TV sometime>>: RUBBISH!

Niamhgold: <<Tonberries!>>: Uh oh, this is getting messy.
<<Fire the torpedoes!>>: Damn the torpedos! Full speed ahead!
<<add doritoes on the inside to crunch it up>>: BBQ baked Lays.
<<I'm not even close to being that well-endowed>>: There are some amazing people who can fix that.
<<uh, not so much my type>>: Can you generate a type from a sample set of one? ;-)
<<Like CDs in the microwave!>>: AOL CD's only.
<<Just not the vegetarian kind?>>: PB&J is a vegetarian sandwich.
<<separates the actual "funny" funnies from the stupid funnies. Then grabs the remote control to watch some animated funnies>>: Only if they're the same animated funnies that I like.
<<You guys must all think this is the line for corndogs or something>>: Thursday is YOUR day in the barrel...
<<No problem>>: It will be.
<<"Ha! I *knew* she was a brunette!!!">>: LOL!
<<turkey-ham>>: Turkey pastrami. Boar's Head brand. There is no other food.
<<Who's the lucky guy?>>: Sadly, not me.
<<Might be nice>>: I'll see what I can do.
<<don't forget those side scrollwheels>>: Not on the keyboard, thanks.
<<I'd still need some padding>>: Lulu has seriously inflated exterior lungs.
<< Stupid European encoding>>: Agreed. Who needs Europe, anyway?
<<tingly-fresh peppermint?>>: Spearmint, actually, but I'm amazed you remembered that.
<< I can make that up to you>>: I doubt it.
<<Some people are immune to it>>: I pity such people.

Kathy: <<Will there be an adult track? Extremely likely. Will it be called "Othercon"? Hard to say>>: It needs to be kept on the down-low, spread by word-of-mouth. Disney mustn't catch on to our evil plans!

Gside: <<if you are what you eat, wouldn't that make you a vegetarian?>>: Paradox. Clearly, one of those "rules" must be false.
<<Then they'd just write virii for whatever would be the new OS of choice (Linux), and you'd still get mass mail>>: I don't think so. I think that if windows went away overnight, most of the script kiddies would, too.
<<Who wouldn't be impressed by Contemporary Linear Systems, or Digital Design Principles and Practices?>>: Me. But then, I have "Engineering Mechanics of Solids" and "Probability Concepts in Engineering Planning and Design".
<<it may also be more trouble than you want>>: I'm willing to deal.
<<Except floppies>>: And we've missed them so much. Not.
<<I thought hippies would need more room than that>>: They do, but we don't want to encourage them.
<<Cactuars!>>: Chocobos.
<<Joe Boxer, wasn't it?>> ???
<<Ethics is overrated>>: Ethics *are* overrated.

Bud-clare: <<Or testosterone. Between the two of them, that covers a lot of ground>>: Not really. They have a huge amount of overlap.
<<It was almost a good plan>>: Some people like dead lays. Not me.
<<Despite their claim, there is no actual enjoyment involved>>: Shocker.
<<Get a dog>>: HAHAHAHA that was good.

213. I will not wear long, heavy cloaks. While they certainly make a bold fashion statement, they have an annoying tendency to get caught in doors or tripped over during an escape.

Mooncat> <<why not sell the book you don't want on eBay or trade it in at a used book store?>>
I'm not sure it's really in good enough condition for that. It was already many times "used" when I bought it.

Josh> <<I recommend nyquil.>>
Been busy.

<<Men have no problems making intelligent decisions when they have nothing to do with sex.>>
Or testosterone. Between the two of them, that covers a lot of ground.

<< <<heat-sensitive color-changing plastic>>: That might be a bit extreme.>>
Extreme? It's a little late to be worried about that.

<<But I don't think it's as responsive in the sack.>>
*sighs* True. It was almost a good plan.

<<I rather like having them to look over again later.>>
Not for this class, you wouldn't. It's called "The Enjoyment of Music", or something. Despite their claim, there is no actual enjoyment involved.

<<Yeah, but I'd rather just have a warm body that brings me the funnies.>>
Get a dog.

Fire Storm> <<then they are getting too smart for our own good and must be put down>>: You know that there are many scifi movies that start off with that plot.
<<DOWN WITH LIFE>>: Yeah, who ever heard of self replicating molecules. It's just an abberation.
<<Also, I eat only vegetarians>>: but if you are what you eat, wouldn't that make you a vegetarian?

Imzadi> <<Now if only all you would stop using that grotesquely insecure operating system, it would make my mailbox a lot less full of crap>>: Then they'd just write virii for whatever would be the new OS of choice (Linux), and you'd still get mass mail.

<<But I'm hoping to get them to line up for me>>: It may be fun early on, but it may also be more trouble than you want.
<<Apple has everything>>: Except floppies.
<<Most of those classes share the same group of 3-4 buildings>>: I thought hippies would need more room than that.
<<Sorry to hear that>>: I know you wish he thought that of you.

Todd> <<that should be "Leda and the swan">>: Nope. I was trying to put in a gender reversal of the type feminists are fond of, so for the name transformation, I thought of Duke Leto Arteides, of the Dune books.

Niamhgold> <<Tonberries>>: Cactuars!
<<Amen, brother>>: And a halelujia for good measure.
<<And kudos to Flanker for pulling it off>>: Absolutely.
<<Fire the torpedoes>>: Send in the clowns!
<<Lemurs!>>: Ring tailed or non? Yea: Spider monkeys; nay: Stoats!
<<Turkey-ham, with honey-dijon on some nice rye (possibly sourdough) and a pickle. As an option, add doritoes on the inside to crunch it up>>: Mostly good, but it needs some cheese and I'd pass on the pickle.
<<But I'm not even close to being that well-endowed>>: It is easier to add than to take away.
<<The acme brand?>>: I was talking metaphorically.
<<Thanks>>: Just did a search of the main Rutgers site.
<<All work and no play makes killer postal workers>>: Actually, I heard it was Vietnam. The post office must give a job to any veteran who asks.
<<I've been waiting for checks in the mail for a week and a half and they show no sign of coming>>: Start burning things.
<<Like CDs in the microwave!>>: Seven seconds.
<<And separates the actual "funny" funnies from the stupid funnies>>: But what if a funny funny are on the other side from a stupid funny?
<<You guys must all think this is the line for corndogs or something>>: So then where's your line?
<<Who's the lucky guy?>>: Joe Boxer, wasn't it?
<<tingly-fresh peppermint?>>: Tingly fresh is nice, but is it supposed to be Wint-o-Green?
<<I'd have to be ethical to care>>: Ethics is overrated.

G2004 is 11 months away. Programming tracks haven't been finalized yet. Actually, they're currently under discussion. Will there be an adult track? Extremely likely. Will it be called "Othercon"? Hard to say.

Do you have ideas or comments about Adult Programming or any programming for that matter? Email us at Suggestions. Want to volunteer to lead a seminar or other programming? Email me. We'll talk - addy's on the Contact page.

Mooncat: [viva la Othercon! I wonder if the Scarred for Life award will become an annual thing.]
That is assumign that Othercon itself is even going to be a annual thing. As far as I know, Montreal isn't having it. And frankly, as well as it went, it didn't...having a whole extra room devoted to it wasn't cost-effective. I'm thinking of proposing having "Othercon hour" at night either in one of the unused rooms or the consuite- the art can't be posted, but it can be like a sketchbook-pass-around, only with binders/folders of more finished work that shouldn't be otherwise floating around in the open, less impressionable minds see it. Worse comes to worse, I'm fairly sure Mara would let everyone get together to show off naughty art in her room... ; )

I went to the art department cookout last night and it was nice, with the thunderstorms being only a mild nuisance. Cool lightning, good food. And a week until school starts :(

I also managed to score a mint copy of "The Killing Joke" today for a buck. Suckers ;)

Lain: <squids!> Tonberries!

Gside: <Preach it sister> Amen, brother.
<I'd say inciting the M&M commando was a good a good contribution.> And kudos to Flanker for pulling it off ;)
<Load the crossbows> Fire the torpedoes!
< Iguanas. Though I never really thought of alligators as funny animals> Lemurs!
<Depends on the sandwich> Turkey-ham, with honey-dijon on some nice rye (possibly sourdough) and a pickle. As an option, add doritoes on the inside to crunch it up.
<With the right costume, anyone not too large can pull it off> But I'm not even close to being that well-endowed.
<I pack my own> The acme brand?
< Not personally, but http://www.caip.rutgers.edu/sff/> Thanks
<But then there's me, who never worked over a vacation, and is now without any experience> All work and no play makes killer postal workers. Speaking of which, I've been waiting for checks in the mail for a week and a half and they show no sign of coming.

FS: <Brooklyn LD?> Uh, sure! A Thailog/Goliath would be cool, but, uh, not so much my type ;)
<"Yah, so what if I got cancer? I didn't get it the pansy way by smoking! HELL NO! *I* got it through ART, and I am damn proud of it!"> Hence those "white" paintings and that Mondrian crap ;)
<Well, I think Oberon said it best when he said "Boudicca, come."> LOL
<Zapping stuff is cool!> Like CDs in the microwave!

Bud-Clare: <*blinks* I wouldn't have thought of that. Good for me. ;)> It's this dratted "art" side of me ;)
<The number of cookies that I've eaten in my life> Mmmm...cookies

Imzadi: <Any kind> Just not the vegetarian kind?
<Yeah, but I'd rather just have a warm body that brings me the funnies> And separates the actual "funny" funnies from the stupid funnies. Then grabs the remote control to watch some animated funnies.
<Summer break should be spent working. 3-day breaks should not be spent doing schoolwork.> Amen, brother.
<I am the line> You guys must all think this is the line for corndogs or something.
<I'll remember you said that> No problem
<And provide a great deal of entertainment for the rest of us> "Ha! I *knew* she was a brunette!!!"
<That's the most important part> Mmmm, turkey-ham...
<She exploded> Who's the lucky guy?;)
<Maybe you'll get a DVD player when you switch> Might be nice.
<Are we still talking about keyboards?> Yep. And don't forget those side scrollwheels!
<Maybe with padding> Despite the fact that I'm a bit more well endowed than my younger years, yes, I'd still need some padding ;)
<The latter two aren't available. My roommate has the former.> Stupid European encoding.
<Eucalyptus something-or-other...> ...tingly-fresh peppermint? :)
<What for?> America's Funniest Home Videos.
<You didn't either 8-)> I can make that up to you.
<I recommend nyquil.> Some people are immune to it ;)

Mooncat: <What are Not Dogs made of?> Probably some soy-based-whatnot. Blech ;)

Saw "the Medallion" last night *^_^* and it was GREAT -- I was worried because friends told me it had a poor review on Ain't It Cool News on Yahoo, but it was exciting and funny with great visuals -- pure fun to watch. Everyone I was with except one girl who always complains about CG (she did the same with the Harry Potter Movies and LoR) had only praise for it. Most of us thought it was the best Jackie Chan movie since his older, pre-CG pure martial arts movies.

Jackie plays an Interpol agent after a criminal mastermind who seeks immortality and power. Includes great chase scenes and wonderful chemistry between Jackie and his co-stars.

Josh - Well, you could always *make* DVDs of XE. They probably will come out in a commercial set though. Some episodes are already out on single disks. But really, you have to tear yourself away from the TV sometime.

Lain n Lynati - viva la Othercon! I wonder if the Scarred for Life award will become an annual thing. *^_^* I'm going to start work on my submissions for the next Othercon artshow sooner than later this time. What I learned this year is NEVER wait for the last few months before the convention, but start immediately (if not sooner) from the last convention. That and always bring your an exacto knife in your checked in luggage. I couldn't get an exacto knife in New York and it meant I had to ditch the pretty gold and silver posterboard I was going to frame my art with.

Bud Clare - why not sell the book you don't want on eBay or trade it in at a used book store?

Niamhgold - Mmm... meat! Accept no substitute! I like tofu, but tofu doesn't taste like meat. When I eat it it's because I like the texture added to a dish (which usually has meat... yum), not because of the flavor of tofu. What are Not Dogs made of?

My carnivore side has been pretty active lately, with sale prices on good cuts of red meat I've been stocking up. I love living in a state with plentiful and cheap beef. *happy purrs*

Greg! Happy belated B-day!!! *sends virtual bubbly, steaks, and a rich, hot creamy chocolate brownies with a candle in it*

Well, I stayed up and watched the new X-men Evolution ep... now to grab some Zzz's before working on the house and yard.

later

Saw SWAT today. Not bad on the action front, but slightly anti-climactic at the end. I think the whole movie should have been one escape scene after another, after they'd caught the bad guy. Also, more DS9 DVD watching.

Getting quite a bit of virus emails. Fortunately I use a mac and I'm immune. Now if only all you would stop using that grotesquely insecure operating system, it would make my mailbox a lot less full of crap.

Bud-Clare: <<I haven't gotten a decent night's sleep in days>>: I recommend nyquil.
<<Are we talking both talking about men?>>: Yes.
<<I haven't met many that could do that>>: Men have no problems making intelligent decisions when they have nothing to do with sex.
<<heat-sensitive color-changing plastic>>: That might be a bit extreme.
<<It's a lot easier to live with than a real person>>: But I don't think it's as responsive in the sack.
<<I usually don't sell my textbooks back because the cheap bastards pay so little>>: I rather like having them to look over again later. Also, the titles look so impressive in a bookshelf.

Kathy: <<Welcome back Josh!>>: Thanks!

Silvadel: <<Nobody understands how to buy textbooks in college>>: Your system is all very good...if your time is worthless. My time is very valuable. I can be promised to have zero trouble finding the book, in the correct edition, matched up for the correct class/section/professor. And I get the book immediately. I pay a slight premium for that, but from what I've seen it's just not available for much less than 80% of what I paid for it.

Niamhgold: <<"Not-dogs" are not hot dogs>>: Hence the name.
<<Meat tastes better>>: I'll remember you said that.
<<Just entering the contest would put me a step above my involvement in the one from G2003>>: And provide a great deal of entertainment for the rest of us.
<<Height, however, impacts the illusion of the general shape>>: Yup.
<<And make a sandwich after?>>: That's the most important part.
<<Or a PT Cruiser>>: That's not nearly as small or as uncomfortable.
<<What *did* happen to Sorow?>>: She exploded.
<<PLEASE DO>>: I'll clear my schedule.
<< They either don't apologize at all, or apologize about *everything*>>: Both are bad.
<<maybe banana thermite and nitroglycerin have alternate meanings>>: Good idea.
<<Another job for the DVD playe...I mean, my roommate>>: Maybe you'll get a DVD player when you switch.
<<ergonomic curvature>>: Are we still talking about keyboards?
<<The real question is...can I pull it off?>>: Maybe with padding.
<<I was thinking of some third-party help. Know anyone?>>: Nope.
<<Do they at least come with CDs?>>: No. And they were $250, my mistake.
<<painters drop an easy 1500 a semester>>: Silly artists.
<<What you also need is a DVD of Family Guy, Dilbert, and XE>>: The latter two aren't available. My roommate has the former.
<<scented to one's preference?>>: Eucalyptus something-or-other...
<<I'll happily sign a disclaimer>>: What for?
<<Silly putty won't pay rent>>: You didn't either 8-)

DPH: <<my computer is virus free>>: Congrats on having windows.
<<I heard they use ground up bones in hot dogs>>: Much worse than that.
<<I spent just over $500 on books for 5 classes>>: I feel your pain.
<<How many DVDs do you plan on buying of Gargoyles when they come out?>>: I'll buy the whole show when its available. Nothing less, nothing more.
<<What about his family? How can you be sure that he didn't take some of his work home?>>: See other rules.
<<Demona wasn't reformed and isn't reformed in the stories for Gargoyles and Bad Guys that are being worked on>>: Uh huh, whatever.
<<Anybody have an idea what that number represents?>>: Wrong question. Do we care?
<<end user support>>: How is that a major?

Lain: <<follow the bloodline and see where it leads>>: Eh, who cares if she's a canmore?
<<gj and i have been doing our best to keep out snoochiefests out of the CR. i hope you appreciate it>>: I do.
<<wed miss you>>: I know.
<<youll have to wait a little bit to make that call for yourself>>: I plan to.
<<you poor thing>>: It doesn't smell quite as much as Taiwan did.

Gside: <<Wait in line>>: I am the line.
<<I didn't think of you as the marrying type>>: I'm not planning on it. But I'm hoping to get them to line up for me.
<<Apple has rapid prototypers?>>: Apple has everything.
<<How good are they?>>: Don't ask me, I don't use them.
<<then there's me, who never worked over a vacation, and is now without any experience>>: Summer break should be spent working. 3-day breaks should not be spent doing schoolwork.
<<I'd have thought that feminism would be social science, and English a humanities, leaving them in seperate buildings>>: It's all the same. Most of those classes share the same group of 3-4 buildings.
<<And it copies the funnies>>: Yeah, but I'd rather just have a warm body that brings me the funnies.
<<get my parents to pay for them. I've got a good couple thousand dollars worth sitting on my bookshelfex right now>>: I've had the same plan for several years. This year I paid.
<<Depends on the sandwich>>: Any kind.
<<I thought he didn't swing that way.>>: I don't.
<<there are two things no man wants to know: how sakusage is made and how laws are made>>: I know both. I wish I didn't.
<<having Gunjack tell me I'm sexy over AIM>>: Sorry to hear that.

212. I will not send out battalions composed wholly of robots or skeletons against heroes who have qualms about killing living beings.

*swears* I usually don't sell my textbooks back because the cheap bastards pay so little. There was one book, however, that I was planning to sell back, just to get rid of it. But I forgot about it for, oh, a year and a half. And now they're using a different edition, so I can't sell it back. Dammit. Now I don't get the money AND I'm stuck with a book that I have no use for. Grr.

Imzadi> <<Marry me?>>: Wait in line. Besides, I didn't think of you as the marrying type.
<<Or an Apple product designer>>: Apple has rapid prototypers? How good are they?
<<I bet you'd want to after he helps you remember>>: You have no idea how right you are.
<<This is a bad way to spend a vacation>>: But then there's me, who never worked over a vacation, and is now without any experience.
<<maybe I should walk into the english building and say that to the feminism class>>: I'd have thought that feminism would be social science, and English a humanities, leaving them in seperate buildings.
<<The back of a volkswagen?>>: Not quite as small, but more uncomfortable. A rough floored crawl space.
<<Don't bet on it>>: I don't bet. I know.
<<Height matters>>: As long as everything's in proportion, and there's no one standing nearby for sizing...

Bud Clare> <<heat-sensitive color-changing plastic>>: I don't think that'd work out well. It'd never be all the same color when in use.
<<It's a lot easier to live with than a real person>>: And it copies the funnies, too.

Silvadel> <<Nobody understands how to buy textbooks in college>>: I thought my way was pretty good: get my parents to pay for them. I've got a good couple thousand dollars worth sitting on my bookshelfex right now.

Niamhgold> <<Meat tastes better>>: Preach it sister.
<<Just entering the contest would put me a step above my involvement in the one from G2003>>: I'd say inciting the M&M commando was a good a good contribution.
<<Man the deathrays!>>: Load the crossbows.
<<And pray they never find a cure for Alzheimers>>: You'd better believe it.
<<You're good>>: You'd better believe it.
<<Alligators!>>: Iguanas. Though I never really thought of alligators as funny animals.
<<I don't think as many women as men would be using it>>: No, but I can always hope and look.
<<And make a sandwich after?>>: Depends on the sandwich.
<<What *did* happen to Sorow?>>: I vote for general disappearance.
<<one of our feminist art classes>>: But leto and the swan doesn't work as well.
<<The real question is...can I pull it off?>>: With the right costume, anyone not too large can pull it off.
<<Sadly, only double-jointed in the knee/elbow area>>: thumbs and knees.
<<I'll keep a sledgehammer on hand>>: I pack my own.
<<You can borrow it if you keep remembering the images of seeing Gside in the shower>>: I thought he didn't swing that way.
<<I was thinking of some third-party help. Know anyone?>>: Not personally, but http://www.caip.rutgers.edu/sff/
<<scented to one's preference?>>: But of course.

DPH> <<I heard they use ground up bones in hot dogs>>: Mmm, marrow. Though I've heard there are two things no man wants to know: how sakusage is made and how laws are made.

Lain> <<gj and i have been doing our best to keep out snoochiefests out of the CR>>: Only to be groping and having Gunjack tell me I'm sexy over AIM.
<<well, we cant expect you to do EVERYTHING, now, can we?>>: Might as well work me while waiting for Fire Storm to finish up.
<<squids!>>: How here you're changind complete phylums.
<<i think i may have been.. uh.. "scarred for life" as it were>>: Not with you living with someone who's seen hentai before I have, archived no less.

Just confirmed, that as usual, my computer is virus free. One of my yahoo email accounts was overfull because of emails with attachments because of the virus.

Naimhgold - <Do not try and tell me they taste the same as made-from-real-meat hot dogs> Actually, I heard they use ground up bones in hot dogs.

I spent just over $500 on books for 5 classes.

Imzadi - <Picked up DS9 season 4 and Futurama season 2 DVD sets> How many DVDs do you plan on buying of Gargoyles when they come out? <211. If my chief engineer displeases me, he will be shot, not imprisoned in the dungeon or beyond the traps he helped design.> What about his family? How can you be sure that he didn't take some of his work home? <Throughout the whole series, an ongoing theme has been redemption. . . Demona...people who've been evil (or at least ethically void) all their lives suddenly turning over a new leaf> Demona wasn't reformed and isn't reformed in the stories for Gargoyles and Bad Guys that are being worked on.

Lynati - <hey, it's Greg's birthday?> Monday was.

Fire Storm - <You know, when I said that Mary was a Canmore a few weeks ago... I swear I was joking.> You did read Timedancer Season 4, right?

30,121 <- Anybody have an idea what that number represents?

My classes started on Thursday. I discovered that my major had been changed. I was "programmer/analyst", but now I'm "end user support" in the MIS department. I got to have a chat with my advisor about that change.

Today was photograph-the-employees day. There are several standard mug-shots, and then a few pics of my boss punching my lights out. Those were cool :)

Also: "Not-dogs" are not hot dogs. Do not try and tell me they taste the same as made-from-real-meat hot dogs. They don't ;) I think I could entertain the thought of vegetarianism for five seconds, at most. Meat tastes better.

After battling a stray moth last night and working really late, I finally had a good night's sleep. And tonight my boss is having us over for steaks, burgers, and lots of grilled delights :)

And I have now completely solidified my senior thesis animation premise. BTW, does anyone have an animation peg-board they're willing to sell? I'm looking to animate in a traditional style.

Spacebabie: <Knowing Josh he would prefer if it would be Sorrow or Dreamie who dressed up in that> Oh, well. Just entering the contest would put me a step above my involvement in the one from G2003 ;)
<well I am signed up> Montreal *is* within good distance of my NH home...but part of me doesn't think I'll be in NH next summer.

Taleweaver: <The only women I've seen who would wait for months to just hear from a guy they have a crush on make frequent appearences on Ricki Lake.> We're all too busy these days.

Mandi: <Aw, darn it! I work in Baltimore> Technically, it's bizarre that WE haven't met up yet ;)

FS: <Well, maybe you will find that you really like it!> That's possible. But it wouldn't be a *Demona* LD ;)
<BAH! Art is more important than health and life!> You forgot to add, "and money!", to quote 95% of my crackpot teachers (3 of which, by the way, just recently discovered their various cancers ;)). This is why I'm an illustration major who prefers digital art, pastel, nontoxic acrylic and markers ;)
<I am afraid to try. Might get too many orders for it> Hehehe. It would be sicker if they placed orders for a Bronx AND a Boudicca...
<As do I. Fire up the microwaves> KAZAPPP!

Gside: <Release the carcinogens!> Man the deathrays!
<You never know with parents. We've got a bit of the Telltale Heart hanging framed in the den> If my parents attempted to *sell* any of the work I've given them, then perhaps I'd stand a chance ;)
<I'm not all that certain how chewy spinal cords are> Very
<I guess I'd have to stay on hand to help again> And pray they never find a cure for Alzheimers ;)
<Kiwis!> You're good. Alligators!
< Height matters not. Just general shape, and aggregations of hair, for guys at least> Height, however, impacts the illusion of the general shape.
<Then look for pictures of hot women using it> I don't think as many women as men would be using it.
<As long as you hold out longer> And make a sandwich after?

Imzadi: <The back of a volkswagen> Or a PT Cruiser
<Fap fap fap...no, that would get kind of muffled> Depends on the positioning, and the size of the putty wad.
<That means its not even worth my effort to drool anymore> What *did* happen to Sorow?
<Hmmm...maybe I should walk into the english building and say that to the feminism class> PLEASE DO. Only walk into one of our feminist art classes and say it.
<I've seen a woman apologize for something> They either don't apologize at all, or apologize about *everything* ;)
<Wrong kind of explosion.> Ah. Well, then, maybe banana thermite and nitroglycerin have alternate meanings, as well...
<I saw it. It was good> Another job for the DVD playe...I mean, my roommate ;)
<F keys> And don't forget ergonomic curvature.
<There's only so much I'm willing to pay for> Perhaps it could be something added when ordering, like custom-ordering a laptop. You could even pick color, texture, and height ratio. Perhaps even a soundcard
<Marry me?> The real question is...can I pull it off?
<Or, if they were double-jointed, their own hand> Sadly, only double-jointed in the knee/elbow area
<I bet you'd want to after he helps you remember> I'll keep a sledgehammer on hand. You can borrow it if you keep remembering the images of seeing Gside in the shower.
<This is a bad way to spend a vacation> Exactly why I plan to make up for it this year ;) Senioritis, me? Nahhhh.
<Wrong kind of engineer. You need a mechE. Or an Apple product designer> Actually, seriously, I was thinking of some third-party help. Know anyone?
<That's a sign that she might not be interested> And dumb enough to have a scooter.
<My book bill managed to come in under $200 today. For two books. Bastards> Do they at least come with CDs? This is why I picked the cheap major--painters drop an easy 1500 a semester ;)
<Picked up DS9 season 4 and Futurama season 2 DVD sets> Woohoo! What you also need is a DVD of Family Guy, Dilbert, and XE

BudClare: <Ooo, heat-sensitive color-changing plastic... > And scented to one's preference? ;)
<Note to self: bring camera. ;)> I'll happily sign a disclaimer, if anyone actually *wants* to see evidence of such a getup on me ;)
<Maybe everyone _should_ be dating silly putty. It's a lot easier to live with than a real person> No. Silly putty won't pay rent.
<I haven't gotten a decent night's sleep in days, but I stayed up late to work on some things (like a job that I want to apply for, but the deadline is today), but so far I haven't done a damn thing. *beats head against desktop*> Well, despite that...best of luck!!!

Nobody understands how to buy textbooks in college ... I mean I did it the "wrong way" when I went but then again there were fewer options at that time...

First off get the book lists as EARLY as you possibly can(While a trip to the bookstore gets you it immediately you pay a HUGE premium). Second check amazon.com and other internet booksellers... Then check your local bookstore.

Most of the books will be findable for UNDER HALF the cost at the university bookstore...

One final important word of advice -- MAKE SURE IT IS THE SAME EDITION... Yes go to the bookstore and check what edition they are selling... SOMETIMES the one you get at the college bookstore is several editions out of date which would make the page numbers etc not match up.

Picked up DS9 season 4 and Futurama season 2 DVD sets, so we should be able to merge our asses to our sofa for the next few days.

Niamhgold: <<How about a Dominique doll that could *transform* into a Demona-with-wings doll? Let's really up the complexity>>: There's only so much I'm willing to pay for.

<< I'm sure that was scary>>: The cute chicks made up for the ugly ones.
<<I simply worked my butt off while everyone else went on vacation>>: This is a bad way to spend a vacation.
<<Nitroglycerin? Banana Thermite?>>: Wrong kind of explosion.
<< I doubt all the artwork I've given my parents has made up for my expense>>: Even if you've wallpapered the house for them, no.
<<I'm very much disappointed that no one wanted to go see the Italian Job>>: I saw it. It was good.

Heather: <<I'm Sorry>>: I can die now. I've seen a woman apologize for something.

Spacebabie: <<Keep your kinky fantasies to yourself>>: Why? You don't keep your obnoxious revel-mush-fests to yourself?
<<I’m dancing with joy>>: You and everyone else. You're just lucky I decided to come back.
<<All you English majors can blow me>>: Hmmm...maybe I should walk into the english building and say that to the feminism class...
<<Another reason I HAVE to go>>: I hear you weren't very intimidating in your threats of kicking my ass. Needless to say, I'm not going to lose any sleep over you.
<<Knowing Josh he would prefer if it would be Sorrow or Dreamie who dressed up in that>>: Dreamie is taken. That means its not even worth my effort to drool anymore.

Taleweaver: <<The only women I've seen who would wait for months to just hear from a guy they have a crush on make frequent appearences on Ricki Lake>>: Or hanging out in this CR?

Gside: <<in a small uncomfortable place>>: The back of a volkswagen?

<<Height matters not. Just general shape, and aggregations of hair, for guys at least>>: Height matters.
<<Mmm... Silly Putty>>: Fap fap fap...no, that would get kind of muffled.

<<Consider Berkeley>>: Would that I could, but I can't.
<<As long as they're flinging at someone else, all is good>>: But when they're flinging, you don't have much insureance that they won't turn on you next.

Hullo all,
I'm reading through the latest Pendragon. Ok, so far. But I thought this question might pcik things up. What's everyone's opinons on the three main romances of the series Arthur/Jennifer, Merlin/Mary and Griff/Brianna?

Griff & Brianna haven't had a lot of screentime this season, but in the past, they've grown to be the cute couple that you know are meant to be together.

Merlin & Mary seem OK, but I'm mindful that they are barely halfway through their teens. It feels like Save by the Bell naieve that they'll stay together forever. Also I miss the fighting. The cat & dog fighting last season gave the relationship some spark. It feels tepid now. Reminds me of David & Maddie in Moonlighting. When they were fighting and denying the attraction they were great, but once it was out it wasas like drinking warm soda.

Arthur & Jennifer are a question mark. I thought Jennifer was a woman of the 90's. The only women I've seen who would wait for months to just hear from a guy they have a crush on make frequent appearences on Ricki Lake. I understand Arthur has a lot on his plate, but is a phone call really that hard to make? When they are together, there is some warmth. But I could see this developing into the plutonic friendshipdom real fast.

How about it boyos? I know there used to be a lot of shippers out there. What's your take?

GB: <When will you be in Baltimore. I will briefly grace the city in the afternoon until early evening of Sep 2 if you're interested.> It may be possibe to catch a dinner in the city or something...I have a class from 9 until 3, so I may not be able to go far afterwards depending on what activities I'll need to attend. But if you want to meet up somewhere for coffee or food, maybe at the harbor or something, I might be able to work it out ;) Do you still have my email? If not, you can get me at fluff_astrid@yahoo.com or my hotmail account and we can discuss this further.
< so off I go by cab to her house, and then crash until about 3 pm> But did you crash INTO her house? ;)
< can fly from Seoul to JFK for 900 and from JFK to Montral for 200 or so> Yeah. I, too, am pleased at the lower prices in airfare.

MoonCat: <I hope future OtherCons are as fun as the first one> I definitely agree with you there
<Maybe a Dominique Destine doll would be easier to make.> How about a Dominique doll that could *transform* into a Demona-with-wings doll? Let's really up the complexity! ;)
<A lot of people were very quiet over the summer hot months.> Blame work and a Dial-up.

FS: <I didn't know if this was a single project or you were going to make a series of inflatable sculptures> Nah. I'm not so great at the realm of 3D, so one would probably kill me ;)
<And at home workshops of people who don't care!> Yeah. And of people who use spraymount like it's NOT a carcinogen ;)
<Quite simply, it is an attempt to basically create a Real Doll that at least moves, and hopefully interacts at LEAST with whoever is... um... "accessing" it, but preferably is able to move a helluva lot more> Wouldn't it be great if the only one anyone could ever make was Bronx? ;)

Bud-Clare: <Alas, no, but there were teeth issues> These bus people should stop paying the fares and go to a dentist more often. And stop offering people empty boxes of chocolate... ;)
<Dare you> All right. If I go, you're on ;) I'd do it at Halloween, but no one here would understand...maybe I'd have better luck as a FFX Lulu...with a miracle bra...with five inches in extra height...with black hair...::sigh:: ;)

Gside: <I got to put a hole straight through one of the walls of the house> Come on...you could have punched one of your own
<I thought flexible was everybody's type. Or at least a good step toward being one's type> If that were so, everyone would be dating silly putty.
<Cows!> Kumquats!
<First time I've been in any group given high hopes> You've been to NH...you've seen the horror...
<Or you could always look for engineers with access to rapid prototyping machines> True...next time I'm at Rutgers ;)
<Cue automatic innuendo: Can I help you remember?> But what if I forget again?
<Or maybe a tootsie pop> Blowpops are chewier :)
<Even when they're flinging?> Have you seen the video clip of the monkey who picks his butt, sniffs his fingers, and falls off of his branch and into brambles below? ;)

Imzadi: <Yes. But I factor many things into my "type".> Letters, numbers, whether it has a touchpad...
<Just because her hopes are high doesn't mean she'll find a looker. Consider Berkeley> But more Berkeley guys are straight.
<As long as they're flinging at someone else, all is good> Just make sure you have a video camera!
<I was watching over you all. Especially in the shower> I'm sure that was scary.
<At least you get a fall break. We get jack> This is the first year that I'm going to try and enjoy it ;) Last few years, I simply worked my butt off while everyone else went on vacation ;)
<But are they licensed?> Mine is, but that was because Jay owed me one ;) The other folks simply got pirated crap ;)
<I think I can arrange that> Nitroglycerin? Banana Thermite?
<More like 10% of yours ;-)> Maybe 20...
<For my parents, college was the cheapest part of having me> I doubt all the artwork I've given my parents has made up for my expense ;)
<That car has serious horsepower> I do admit that they do, and the webiste it nice. And I'm very much disappointed that no one wanted to go see the Italian Job
<That really only applies to thinking with your dick> Another reason why Cheney's not president...
<I've decided that I deeply regret not going to G2k3> Excuses, excuses... ;)
<but there was no way I could have known that when I needed to book> Yeah, I understand that one. That's why I can't say for sure that I can go to the next one, especially with a Siggraph LA trip volunteership pending.

Adios all

Greetings and salutations. I am now back on American soil.

I guess its time to update my travel log.

Tuesday at 4:50 pm Newfie time, a good half hour ahead of Atlantic Time Zone, I left on a plane to Halifax, as Karen watched me leave. I must admit that I am quite fond of Karen and could go on and on about how much I like her, but for Imzadi's nausea factor, I won't ;)

Now to make certain I don't do anything rash and get hurt again (well, emotionally; she ran over my shoes with her scooter a few times so I've been hurt physically;) )

At Halifax I take another flight to Toronto International Airport. From there, I take a shuttle to the Greyhoudn station where I purchase a later ticket and forgot where the Kinkos was, until right before I left, so I was unable to email Bud-Calre about the delay, or call as I can't find her number.

Thanks to being delayed in Customs forever (of ocurse having a US passport my inquisition was very swift unlike last time where the customs lady asked me about the girls I was meeting, how I knew them, and where I'd be staying in London, but I think she was having fun with me), I had to take a three hour layover in Buffallo for the next bus to Rochester (though I was supposed to go there directly with the same bus). In Buffalo I get a cab to take me to the nearest Kinkos, so I can email Bud-Clare and apologize for not alerting her earlier and that I'd be there by 7:30 am.

At 6, I depart for Rochester, but it takes forver to leave, and by 8 am I arrive at Rochester terminal and search for Bud-Clare in case she is waiting for me, but after 15 minutes I see no sign of her, so off I go by cab to her house, and then crash until about 3 pm.

That night we went to Olive Garden and watched anime. Today may include seeing the Freddy vs Jaosn movie and bugging Siryn :)

Gathering 04> I checked, and I shoudl be abl eto make it. I can fly from Seoul to JFK for 900 and from JFK to Montral for 200 or so. I will have another 30 days of leave by then and I will even make another brief visit to Newfoundland (which I absolutely love and is right now my favorite province in Canada, but I still love London and Toronto).

In Newfoundland, I had cod tongue (quite good but littel flavor) and I had a pint of Screech, so I just needed to kiss a cod to be an official Newfie bye. Maybe next time I can and I hope to take a visit to St. John's.

Imzadi> It's good to see you posting again, but you'll probably make me eat those words soon enough :)

Happy Birthday to Greg X. See you on Saturday.

Niamhgold> When will you be in Baltimore. I will briefly grace the city in the afternoon until early evening of Sep 2 if you're interested.

Imzadi> <<Is this one of those "prince albert in a can" jokes?>> Green Baron in a bus terminal...that could work. Whenever you see someone traveling by bus who is overdressed, it may be me :)

Andrea> <<A dangerous combination and REALLY odd and funked up dreams.>> I briefly noticed that show while waiting to have my transportation briefing in Hanau.

Tim <<by Denmark I'm unsure if they even knew it or if they counted it as Germania, too.>> Well, that's possible especially if their Germania included Schlesswig-Holstein, which has been a point of contention between Denmark and Germany as well as the home of teh brillinat genius Otto von Bismark. Plus the Dane and Germans had the same gods, excpet with different names.

Now, heading out before Bud-Clare kicks me out of her room, temporarily.

I had nothing to do all day today, so you can imagine I was rather bored.

I've decided that I deeply regret not going to G2k3, and I will make every effort to attend 04. In retrospect, I could have sacrificed those few days without pay, but there was no way I could have known that when I needed to book.

Bud-Clare: <<matter how old he gets, he will still always be male>>: That really only applies to thinking with your dick. Normal non-sexual logical leaps should still be made.

Niamhgold: <<I really wanted to skip work today>>: It must have been a day that ends in 'y'.
<<Definitely need a vacation>>: At least you get a fall break. We get jack.
<<I have high hopes for anyone outside of New Hampshire.>>: You've clearly never been to Berkeley.
<<Students with friends at gaming companies get free copies of Windows XP>>: But are they licensed?
<<I WANT to explode!>>: I think I can arrange that.
<<Not as bad as mine, sadly.>>: More like 10% of yours ;-)
<<I am never having kids due to the horrendous cost of college>>: For my parents, college was the cheapest part of having me.
<<there's always the silly mini cooper>>: That car has serious horsepower.

Mooncat: << Glad to see you back too>>: I can fix that.
<<I didn't think you were gone so much as just being very quiet for a while>>: I was watching over you all. Especially in the shower. Except for the fat chicks and the guys.
<<summer hot months>>: Apple is very well air-conditioned.
<<A new Overlord Rule>>: I'm getting to the end soon.

Fire Storm: <<Sick sad thing is that there are companies out there that sell basic AI software (artificial neural networks) for this>>: Sick, but not sad.
<<but it's YOU that I am hearing it from!>>: And...?
<<depending on the thickness of the vinyl, it could burn, especially if she doesn't move the iron fast enough>>: That doesn't mean the comment should be ignored. Especially since I said to be careful.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GREG X!

Gside: <<Always a good thing>>: Agreed.
<<What's the worth of a free version of your own?>>: I have no idea. I suppose it would depend on what they're selling for.
<<I'd assume you'd have to stick something up there to grab them before they could be pulled out>>: Maybe they were hanging out?
<<Or at least a good step toward being one's type>>: Yes. But I factor many things into my "type".
<<Yes, harder, faster.>>: Deeper, now?
<<First time I've been in any group given high hopes.>>: Just because her hopes are high doesn't mean she'll find a looker. Consider Berkeley.
<<Even when they're flinging?>>: As long as they're flinging at someone else, all is good.

<<Flexible is not necessarily my type either>>: I thought flexible was everybody's type. Or at least a good step toward being one's type.
<<Take THIS!>>: Yes, harder, faster.

Niamhgold> <<Monkeys!>>: Cows!
<<I have high hopes for anyone outside of New Hampshire>>: First time I've been in any group given high hopes.
<<a friend in the glass shop to blow a oval-like globe in glass with small glass components inside>>: Or you could always look for engineers with access to rapid prototyping machines.
<<Or something that would allow him to have a DLD/DesdemonaLD triple>>: One step at a time.
<<Am I, though?>>: I hope so, otherwise I'm going to have to reevaluate myself.
<<I'd pretty much forgotten>>: Cue automatic innuendo: Can I help you remember?
<<The new french fries>>: More like the new Combos. Or maybe a tootsie pop.
<<Just don't hate monkeys>>: Even when they're flinging?

Mooncat: <Latex Demona Dolls>
Leo: <...You know, if the Gathering ever has Othercon again, that might make a good panel subject.>
Well, I might as well describe the DLD project again for clarification:
Quite simply, it is an attempt to basically create a Real Doll that at least moves, and hopefully interacts at LEAST with whoever is... um... "accessing" it, but preferably is able to move a helluva lot more.
I saw in the magazine Discover that someone has created a way of showing emotions on a robotic foam latex face, so that is at least good.
And soon I hope to at least make a prototype of the forearm-hand assembly for a costume. The mechanics will be easy. It's the programming that will be difficult. Haven't even attempted that yet. Sick sad thing is that there are companies out there that sell basic AI software (artificial neural networks) for this.

Now, this is just me, I would LOVE to create an interactive AI bot with actual biological skin, but that's a VERY long term goal.

Josh: <My dad probably knows what he's talking about, having produced vinyl products for 25 years>
Yeah, but it's YOU that I am hearing it from!
<I'm sorry, but this sentence provides no evidence why I should be ignored.>
Because you're Josh! THAT, and depending on the thickness of the vinyl, it could burn, especially if she doesn't move the iron fast enough,
<I have some funds you can borrow. However, I expect an ROI of greater than 1.>
I'll probably only use silicone when I am about to deliver a product (I'll probably send it out for that to be done)
<And that's why we do it at factories>
And at home workshops of people who don't care!

Niamhgold: <yeah...I'm not looking at mass production>
I didn't know if this was a single project or you were going to make a series of inflatable sculptures.
<I could design a prototype in 3D Studio and send it to a printer ;) Of course...you have to have da funds ;)>
Da funds, da funds, da funds...

Yes! A new Overlord Rule =)

Latex Demona Dolls... ??? Now there are those "real dolls" that cost a couple of grand that can be ordered in Japan. I wonder if they would take a custom order for a Demona Doll. The wings alone would probably double the expensive. Maybe a Dominique Destine doll would be easier to make.

I hope future OtherCons are as fun as the first one. Other Con 2003 was fantastic. Loads of excitement and energy and fan participation. Great displays, great panels, and it was educational as well as entertaining. I don't know of anyone participating who didn't have a great time.

Hola

I really wanted to skip work today, mostly because my neighborhood community had organized an Ocean City beach trip, and when I left the apartment this morning everyone was on the curb waiting for a charter bus. And it's the PERFECT beach day. I guess the deciding factor was that there were only families in the group, and no cute guys ;)

Definitely need a vacation, though--Gathering wasn't long enough, and I'm working straight through until school starts ;) :: Sigh :: Monkeys!

Bud Clare: <Bus stations at 2 a.m. are very exciting. That was sarcasm> Anything like the Light Rail patrons with three teeth who offer you insight into your past life?

Imzadi: <I'm oriented!> Arrowed!
<I always have high hopes for the environmental engineers, as they tend to come from the more attractive areas of california (LA, San Diego).> I have high hopes for anyone outside of New Hampshire. Baltimore has some lookers...but they're all gay.
<student developers get free copies of the OS> What a coincidence. Students with friends at gaming companies get free copies of Windows XP.
<Actually, that was for me> Actually, I think it was for the both of you.
<And that's why we do it at factories> But I WANT to explode! ;)
<I'd imagine you could get similar results with an iron or soldering iron. Set on really high.> Yeah, I was thinking of that. It only has to hold air and some round, smaller globes (or balls, if you will ;)), in order for it to sustain a round shape and be see-through. The other option is not doing anything of the vinyl sort; printing instead a plaster cast of this figure's body, then getting a friend in the glass shop to blow a oval-like globe in glass with small glass components inside. However, my desire for plush is greater ;)
<Had to pick up a new parking permit and pay my tuition bill (OUCH!)> Not as bad as mine, sadly. I am never having kids due to the horrendous cost of college ;)
<Lucky. Apple is still trying to figure out a way for me to do that.> Eh, company budget doesn't look good. I'll have to pick up freelance elsewhere. Anyone interested? ;)
<Did you see that Dilbert episode where he turns into a woman?> That was great. As was the Bob-Ross episode with the Blue Duck ;)

Andrea: <Were those cops idiots?> Yep ;)
<I wasn't even thinking about them breaking into the car, but they SHOULD have gone to their house to request they turn the alarm off, since it's disturbing the peace> No, they couldn't have done that--by neighbors, I meant someone who lives in one of the row houses on either side of my building--and since there can be up to eight tenants per row house, you can imagine that the cops didn't really have a starting point. ;)
<A 2003 Mustang was the only thing that came to mind because about half of my friends want one> Sadly, the older Mustang models (1970s) I've found were much better than the 1998-and-later models. If you're going to go for cars, perhaps the newer-model BMWs, Mercedes, something on the Porsche front, maybe even an Audi. Or, if you're into kitsch, there's always the silly mini cooper ;)

Gside: <No, but I think I may have seen at least some of the strips> It's a funny episode. Or did you mean, "strips"? ;)
<Old news, but I'm sure Fire Storm is always looking for funding> Or something that would allow him to have a DLD/DesdemonaLD triple...
<No, you're just female> Am I, though? I'd pretty much forgotten.
<Brains taste better, but spines do have more varitey. Cruncy on the outside, and tasty spinal fluid on the inside.> The new french fries ;)

Leo: <"..how to make an inflatable,.... Demona,.... body of latex...., or silicone...."> Ah, back in the day ;)
<Got my pictures developed of the aftermath of a tornado (an F-1) that touched down in my neighborhood just 2 blocks away from our house a week ago thursday> AWESOME. When I was younger, I used to think I wanted to be a meteorologist and a tornado-chaser, and I was disappointed when, on a family vacation, we saw one in Kansas and had to go into the little camping tornado-shelter. I wanted pictures! ;)

FS: <Oh, and the piece of fabric? Cotton. Pure cotton. NO BLENDS!> Okay, I'll take this into mind. The good thing is that this does not have to be done until May 2004, so I could even devote some time to it during Winter Break if I had to :) < If you are going to make one or two> yeah...I'm not looking at mass production. <The DLD, whenever it is complete, will have a body of latex (if I am cheap), or silicone (if I have da funds.)> I could design a prototype in 3D Studio and send it to a printer ;) Of course...you have to have da funds ;) <No way in frell I would reccomend her trying that at home> But I want to explode! Actually, my dad says he has something of the sort at work in the shop. So, once again, it may be a winter break thing.
Robby: < I dunno, I think the world tour woulda been MORE interesting had it been Chavez and Vinnie, actually>
Vinnie (shaking, after a run-in with Nokkar): "Uh, Missus C., do you believe in aliens?"
Chavez: "Not unless my name is Matt Bluestone, no. Now go find Taurus so that we can shove the hell off."
Eh, could be interesting. They would definitely need a third character, nonhuman ;)

Mandolin: <Ugh. I hate Mondays> Just don't hate monkeys! :)

Lynati: <You know, if the Gathering ever has Othercon again, that might make a good panel subject. *walkes away, whistling innocently*> Bwahahahaha Masquerade >;)

Adios folks

I'm oriented! This morning was orientation for the new CivE grad students. No cute chicks in the new Structural class specifically, but I saw some lookers in the other divisions. I always have high hopes for the environmental engineers, as they tend to come from the more attractive areas of california (LA, San Diego). Also had to finish registering for classes and going over my schedule with my advisor, etc.

I also installed the WWDC release of OS X 10.3, a.k.a. Panther. I'm definitely looking forward to the final version. Some speed improvements in connecting to servers and a host of other activities are promising, while some stuff still has to be overcome. The Expose feature by itself is probably worth the $129 upgrade fee...but then again I don't have to pay for it (student developers get free copies of the OS).

I watched National Lampoon's Van Wilder today. Twice. Brilliant. It was like American Pie, but with more bare breasts.

Vash: <<I'm surprised it didn't occur to Mary or Merlin that Morgana might be invited for the holidays>>: Agreed. Merlin isn't too bright for a 1500-year-old wizard.
<<Why would -he- think others wouldn't take it seriously?>>: I think he understands enough that people in today's world think the Grail is a myth.
<<Has he simply come to expect bizarre things happening to Mary's friends?>>: I'd imagine that after discovering your daughter was a werewolf, nothing would shock you.
<<probably the worst possible approach to getting Mary to like her>>: Morgana is probably of the attitude that Mary's affection for Merlin will pass shortly after he does, since she's just a teenage girl (and we all know how fickle they are). The problem with Morgana's logic is that SHE is the one who caused the death, ensuring that Mary will remain angry at her long after her love for Merlin dies.

Niamh: <<it's not intended for that Demona LD>>: Actually, that was for me.

Fire Storm: <<Ignore Josh>>: My dad probably knows what he's talking about, having produced vinyl products for 25 years.
<<You do NOT want an iron on really high, since it may completely ruin the vinyl... but try out a piece first>>: I'm sorry, but this sentence provides no evidence why I should be ignored. I said "I'd imagine you could get similar results...". YMMV.
<<or silicone (if I have da funds>>: I have some funds you can borrow. However, I expect an ROI of greater than 1.
<<No way in frell I would reccomend her trying that at home>>: And that's why we do it at factories.

Leo: <<I'd like to welcome Josh back to the CR>>: Thanks! Good to be back.
<<how to make an inflatable,.... Demona,.... body of latex...., or silicone>>: It's an old discussion.

Lynati: <<if the Gathering ever has Othercon again>>: I might have to go.

Andrea: <<REALLY odd and funked up dreams>>: No kidding!
<<I know jack about cars>>: Since Ravyn isn't here I can make a crack about it being because you're female.
<<I have no idea what the most expensive cars are>>: Expensive cars are not necessarily good. But Mustangs suck. That was the only point I was making.

Gside: <<Did it hurt?>>: No, they were short names.
<<I thought she was flexible and therefore your type>>: Flexible is not necessarily my type either.
<<I'll give you that>>: Take THIS!

Bud-Clare: <<where the hell is Green Baron?>>: Is this one of those "prince albert in a can" jokes?
<<check your closets and under your beds. Look under your sofa cushions and on top of your refrigerators>>: I checked all four places, and he wasn't in any of them. I did, however, find Jimmy Hoffa, the Holy Grail, and 28 cents.

Time to sleep. Up way too early this morning.

209. I will not, under any circumstances, marry a woman I know to be a faithless, conniving, back-stabbing witch simply because I am absolutely desperate to perpetuate my family line. Of course, we can still date.

Cheetah Girls Movie + too much Gargoyles TV and Fanfiction + Kim Possbile = A dangerous combination and REALLY odd and funked up dreams.

Too much of all 3 on Friday resulted in a funky (yet entertaining) dream. I can't remember details, but it involved some 3 girls from the Avalong Clan (mostly from my imagination, though kinda mixed with various Fanfiction characters), and Kim Possible wearing Cheetah Spots and singing songs from Disney's new Cheetah Girls Movie. Intead of Toto as the Mascot (from the Cheetah Girls movie), it was Rufus. Xanatos was their procucer, and Fox was addicted to their music. Then they catch Owen boogying to the beat. Goliath is ready to pound Ron Stoppabl eif he says "Boo ya!" one more time, and then Dr. Drakken tries to kidnap the girls, but is stopped by sidekick Shego, who is also addicted to their music. The dream was cut off by my cats screaming at my door (Cleo, AKA hell on wheels, leanred from Lola to bang at my door when she wants something, even though My sisters door is a foot a away and usually wide open).

Josh - I know jack about cars. A 2003 Mustang was the only thing that came to mind because about half of my friends want one (inlcuding one who already owns a 2002 Camry that's fully paid for). I have no idea what the most expensive cars are. Sorry bout that.

Niamhgold - Were those cops idiots? I wasn't even thinking about them breaking into the car, but they SHOULD have gone to their house to request they turn the alarm off, since it's disturbing the peace. I doubt the people would have heard the cops anyway, but still...They could have done SOMETHING instead of nothing. I would have called an harassed the cops until they got off their lazy butts and did their darn jobs...No more donuts for you!

First, I'd like to welcome Josh back to the CR.

--------------------
I Got my pictures developed of the aftermath of a tornado (an F-1) that touched down in my neighborhood just 2 blocks away from our house a week ago thursday. Our house wasn't damaged the only noise we heard was from the pinecones and small branches landing on our roof. At least 2 houses were so badly damaged that the owners had to move out of their homes temporarily. It actually blocked one of the main roads that runs by our neighborhood. All traffic from Langley AFB was rerouted through and out the back enterance of our neighborhood.

Here are links to the pics.:

Niamhgold: <would anyone in here of the artsy-craftsy-structural sort happen to know of a good way to make an inflatable?>
Ignore Josh. You do NOT want an iron on really high, since it may completely ruin the vinyl... but try out a piece first. If you are going to make one or two, use a clothes iron (preferably one with a teflon finish or a simple piece of fabric between the iron and the material. Keep in mind, though, the size of the iron.
If you are going to make quite a few of these, invest in a trim iron or a sealing iron (my link has some examples).
<Sorry FS, it's not intended for that Demona LD ;) But if you give me the info I need, I might be willing to oblige>
No need. The DLD, whenever it is complete, will have a body of latex (if I am cheap), or silicone (if I have da funds.)

Josh: <the only way to make it air-tight is with RF heat-sealing>
Seems to me it would be like a focused microwave beam. No way in frell I would reccomend her trying that at home.

Wait... so staying on topic is bad... so does that mean to stay bad I SHOULD stay on topic?

Todd: You know, I've heard “The Goon Show” mentioned so often but never really knew much about it (although I was lucky enough to meet Spike Milligan once). It's quite interesting to hear an example of the kind of oddness that made it so famous. I got a taste of it in “Unspun Socks from a Chicken’s Laundry” of course.

Taleweaver, Josh and Vash: Thanks, as usual, for the reviews.

(I ought to point out that the shared writing credit on “Home for the Holidays” really doesn’t reflect the workload. I did some rewrites on a few scenes but the vast majority was wonderfully written by Todd.)

Niamh: My dad says (and he'd know), that the only way to make it air-tight is with RF heat-sealing. I have no idea how that works or how much it would cost, but I'd imagine you could get similar results with an iron or soldering iron. Set on really high.

Hey, I had a quick question: would anyone in here of the artsy-craftsy-structural sort happen to know of a good way to make an inflatable? I know I could *possibly* get away with sewing clear vinyl (the object is to make a clear, long-lived component that can hold smaller items, to later be attached to a plush), but I was wondering if anyone had any other method. After all, anything that can keep me from sewing is preferred ;)

Sorry FS, it's not intended for that Demona LD ;) But if you give me the info I need, I might be willing to oblige ;)

Ed> Thanks for the link!

TGS: HftH> Another character development fic, minus the action of the last one. Still enjoyable, though, and it's nice to revisit old characters, reminding the readers that they exist.

I thought Mary's idea was pretty obvious, and was surprised Merlin didn't guess at it right away. I was also surprised Mary's dad showed no reaction to her being promoted to Arthur's squire (some pride or horror would have been nice). Also, I'm surprised it didn't occur to Mary or Merlin that Morgana might be invited for the holidays. I mean -come on-, she's engaged to Mary's dad! And for all her personal loathing towards her stepmother-to-be and her fears for Merlin, Mary never expresses any fear for what Morgana might do to her dad. I mean sure, Morgana seems to care for him, but she's also a centuries old witch who's lost touch with reality. I don't think Mary's father is necessarily safe in Morgana's care.

Good points that have been brought up: 1) the clan apparently still has doubts about Mary being a werewolf. Makes sense--they never see her transform! 2) "Let’s face it; the reason why the humans have treated us as they have done is because they know so little about us." Makes sense. 3) Pendragon Investigations is no more. Sad to see it go, but at least they acknowledge it's gone. 4) No silverware. Hehe, good thing her dad remembered. 5) "You look much too pale. You really should get some more sun." -haha 6) "Thank goodness for these long winter nights". I guess the summer was sheer torture. 7) "So, Master Hawkins...do you have any plans for your future?" -ouch!

I wonder who had the guts to suggest to Arthur that he watch Monty Python? I also wonder why Arthur assumed right away that Jennifer would laugh at the mention of the Grail. Why would -he- think others wouldn't take it seriously? Doesn't -he- take it seriously? And when Merlin told Nigel his farfetched story about being abducted to New York and escaping, the man didn't bat an eye. Has he simply come to expect bizarre things happening to Mary's friends? Finally, Morgana bragging about how incurable her poison was right in front of Mary is probably the worst possible approach to getting Mary to like her. What magical herb has this woman been smoking??? I'm at least happy to see Mary looking for a productive approach to solving the feud problem.

And here's some trivia: "as well" was used 22 times in this story, "now" was used 56 times, and "know" was used 63 times. I think this is a sign I need to go to bed.

***TGS***

Cute line about the coconut shells. I also liked Merlin's comments about his progeny's potential for evil, given the events we've just witnessed in TD.

A well written story, overall. Nice poke at Disney. I'm starting to get annoyed by the whole "reform" thing, though. Throughout the whole series, an ongoing theme has been redemption. Xanatos, Macbeth, Demona, Jason Canmore...people who've been evil (or at least ethically void) all their lives suddenly turning over a new leaf. And now Morgana is having second thoughts about 15 hundred years of hatred.

Normally, I'd agree that eventually it goes away. But all of these characters giving up evil at the same time (well, within a couple years of each other)? Too forced. Some people stay evil.

If the Grail is in William Randolph Hearsts' warehouse (or similar oddball location), I'm going to be very disappointed in the TGS staff.

Hello all,

*** TGS Comments Spoilers Ahead! ***
A very refreshing story! I have to say that this was very vivid and very enjoyable. Depending on the story, I can imagine it in real life, animated, storyboard or tabluex. This is the first in a long time that I can see in any form. I especially liked the detail of the descriptions. If anyone wants to know the difference between showing and telling, I'd say study this to get an idea.

Storywise, some elements did drag on. The flashbacks seemed unnecessary. Flashbacks are one of the few instances where I recommend telling over showing. It's hard to reach compatibility between the present governed by logic and personal motivation and the mythic past were people act in contrived ways to make the story. I hope this quest fillers contain more character depth than Unseelie-of-the-week. While in the story SUW is barely two years old, for the audience it is six, going on seven, years old. Recalling them isn't a problem, we can just reread the stories, but it's hard to feel a sense of jeopardy from bit characters who didn't have much of an impact when the Unseelie were at their worst.

This story did bring some jeopardy into it, but it came from the menace of the bikers more than the magic they displayed. They could have easily gone 'Wild Bunch' if they got their hands on some heavy firepower, like laser rifles.

I agree with others that Rory and Leba should be partners more than lovers. Sorry to say, but romances in TGS seem to mark the end of a character's growth. Broadway, Bluestone, even Griff it appears so fade into obscurity once they hook up with a mate. Now that we are seeing new aspects of Rory and Leba, I'd like to see more of them in future stories.

Well those are my thoughts. How about yours?

Imzadi> <<pursuit of one of the female interns>>: The gymnast?
<<How's this?>>: A good start, but for the full volume, it'll take a couple days. Maybe it isn't so instant.

Niamhgold> <<I'm inherently always cold>>: No, you're just female.
<<Maybe they're slowly eliminating you from their roster>>: Already? But I haven't done anything yet. Been waiting for Fire Storm to finish the database.
<<Spines are good, and not just as zombie food>>: Brains taste better, but spines do have more varitey. Cruncy on the outside, and tasty spinal fluid on the inside.

Josh- I dunno, I think the world tour woulda been MORE interesting had it been Chavez and Vinnie, actually. SInce Angela was overly sappy, Bronx couldn't talk, and Goliath and Elisa spent the whole time in "gradual relationship development" mode, Chavez and Vinnie woulda been an interesting mix up, Chavez for discovering the world was stranger than she thought, and Vinnie being a total bumbling klutz. Woulda been interesting to see where Avalon thought HE should go.

But Vinnie and Chavez. Wow, I don't think I've ever heard that pairing the entire time I've been in the fandom. Neat.

Well, actually, I look upon Leba and Rory as closer, in terms of "character hierarchy", to Matt Bluestone, the Mutates, etc., rather than to Chavez or Vinnie.

The geographical references in Rory's story about Cuchulain could be simply anachronisms, like Castle Wyvern being a stone castle (in the late 10th century, castles in the British Isles were made out of wood; stone castles didn't start being built until some time later, after the Norman Conquest) or King Arthur wearing medieval armor (if there was a historical Arthur, as I've said before, he'd have more likely dressed in battle like Macbeth and Duncan in the "City of Stone" flashbacks.)

The names for Minnie and Henry, by the way, were taken from an old British radio comedy series called "The Goon Show" where they were an elderly couple. They had a particularly great scene together in one story (transcribed from memory):

Minnie is watching someone fix the lamp post outside their house. Henry is strongly disapproving of her watching a strange man at work, to which Minnie replies:

MINNIE: What's wrong with you, Henry? Why are you so jealous? You're not the man I used to know.

HENRY: Who was this man you used to know?

MINNIE: It was you!

HENRY: You used to know me?

Minnie replies in the affirmative. Henry promptly becomes extremely jealous.

Well, it was a decidedly oddball series. They did stories about things like a whole group of gullible people tricked into stealing Napoleon's piano from the Louvre or an attempt to help the Germans win the First World War by bombarding Britain with thousands of 1904 calendars so that the British would think that the war wasn't due to begin for another ten years and go home (the plan failed because the British bombarded Germany with thousands of 1918 calendars and the Germans promptly surrendered).

Andrea: Yep, cars should be stolen. According to my neighbors (on the other side of the building), they called the cops, and were then told that the cops didn't have the right to break into the car and shut it off or anything. The key (which I learned from "Twins" ;)) is to get the car up to an angle of 45 degrees or higher before the alarm will turn off--this is for towing reasons. If it happens again tonight, I am personally going to break into it, shift the damn thing into neutral, and let it roll ;)

I was told that the reason they didn't get up earlier to shut off the darn alarm was because they keep all of their windows shut and crank the AC, and the husband has a hearing aid. Fools.

Niamhgold - And someone didn't call the cops? I would have, on the grounds of distubing the peace. I wonder how the hell the alarm set off. And how could they not hear it? Isn't the point of a noisy alarm is so you can HEAR it go off? I agree that if the owners don't respond, a person has every right to steal the car. Obviosuly it doesn't men enough to the owners, right?

Reminds me of people at my work plaza...they sit in the fire lane (which is illegal, and 90% do it outside my store. I wish we had the right to ticket people), with the door wide open, and keys in the ignition and engine running! And they aren't s**tbox cars no one whould ever steal either. True, they aren't brand-spanking new mustangs, but they are decent cars! That is just asking for your car to be stolen! I'm surprized I haven't heard of someone getting their car stolen. (scratch that, I have. One lady's car got broken into and stolen last year (in the manner listed above), WITH HER KEYS AND WALLET INSIDE. SHe was stranded, and she hated us for not being able to help her. She wanted to buy something with only her CC #, and then return it to get some cash (presumably to call a cab). UM, NO. That's NOT how it works. Can't give cash on credit purchases. Dingbat deserved to be standed, if you ask me).

***TGS Spoilery post***

Vash, Josh & Graymonk: Thanks so much for the reviews of "Ride the Wild Winds".

Vash: Leba and Rory aren't an item. The Goll and Garb story was real though, and actually came pretty neatly from a single source (http://www.geocities.com/paris/arc/6084/goll.htm). I think Mandi had different sources in mind originally, but the links became broken after she wrote the outline so I kind of had to wing it.

Graymonk: I must admit, I was a little disappointed that I couldn't find a way to play Herne as he was before - mute and seemingly unstoppable. It was difficult to work out how really, and in any event Mandi had created this splendid little cast of new characters so it seemed a shame not to use them. You can see some info on Herne at: http://www.lugodoc.demon.co.uk/herne.htm

(My first encounter with Herne was actually in Susan Cooper's "The Dark Is Rising" sequence, a really splendid series of children's books with an Arthurian flavour. The first book feels a bit too innocent and 'Famous Five'ish to amount to anything much, but it's incredibly rewarding and each of the books feels quite distinct in tone. I really recommend it.)

Yeah, the tombs conversation was mine - a kind of indirect apology for having three tomb/grave scenes in seven episodes (Madoc's tomb in "Return to Avalon", Arthur's tomb in "Choices" Part One, and now Cuchulain's). Minnie Watkins is indeed a recurring background character. As for whether Germany, Britain and Denmark were still around at the time... er, Rory was telling the story so any mistakes were on his part. That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it. ;)

As Mandi says, there was a convincing reason why Lough Gur was linked to the Wild Hunt. To quote an introductory note on her outline:

“The Grange Stone Circle, located southeast of Limerick, Ireland, is the largest stone circle in Ireland, and is believed to have been built around 2,000 B.C. by the Bronze Age Beaker People. The site is also known as the Lios or "Fort of the Fairies" - like other ancient monuments, it is also said to be the gateways to the Otherworld. Nearby is Lough Gur, "The Enchanted Lake." There is a great deal of folklore surrounding the area, including a more specific tale of the 'Dead Hunt' witnessed on the shores of the lake.”

As for why this crucial information didn’t make it into the story, the answer is… er, I’m incompetent and totally overlooked it. I’m very sorry about that (especially to Mandi who did all the research on this and looks bad because of my mess-up). Oh well, now you know.

Mandi: Although I did more of the actual writing, the outline was so comprehensive and well thought out that it was surprisingly easy to dip in and find the voices of the various characters, as well as the overall mood of the story. I think you did a smashing job on this and I wouldn’t dream of taking any of the credit away from you.

Ugh. I hate Mondays.

Ride the Wild Winds> Ed deserves the lion's share of the credit for this one; were it not for him, the episode might not have made it to the lineup. Most inconsistencies you find are most likely my fault. :)

There IS a Wild Hunt connection to the legends of Lough Gur; there's an account of the "Dead Hunt" in that area that was referred to as the "Lough Gur Hunt." Herne's oak was used because its connection to the legends of Herne was well known enough for someone as well versed in folklore as Leba to pick up on it and make that intuitive leap.

I think that people with car alarms should be strapped with a bracelet that immediately buzzes them when the alarm goes off. One of my neighbor's cars' alarm went off last night, and the fools didn't get up to shut it off until 6 AM. I think, maybe, after turning on my fan to its loadest setting, I got two hours of sleep. MAYBE.

Those bracelets should also electricute the person if they do not respond to their alarm within an hour. And whoever was trying to steal it should have every right to it if the owner doesn't respond ;)

On the upside, I have an idea for my senior thesis, a script, and a final presentation packet that will include a new personal promotional identity (icons, website revamp, etc), a small line of action figures/plushes, a VHS or DVD of what I plan to animat (in titoonic.dk style) and just plain fun, Lilo-and-Stitchy weirdness. The only downfall will be adding sound, and if anyone here is a bit of a sound-in-Flash guru, please chime in ;)

Additionally, my boss wants to have me freelance for the company during the school year, so I won't have specific hours, but I'll make some extra $. And I'll need it for several things! :)

DPH: <We're not looking to do anything too fancy with web pages> There goes any Flash ;) Not that I'm complaining. Flash for cartoons and game sites is fun. Flash for text sites...blech.

Gside: <Air conditioning is truly a wonderful invention> Yes, when used accordingly. People who turn it on when it's already only 75 outside...silly. I'm inherently always cold ;) < If you want to send anything over to me, go right ahead.> Maybe they're slowly eliminating you from their roster ;) <Nah, just immoral.> Nothing wrong with that! <Yay. Insta volume> Not to be mistaken with instant coffee.

Bud-Clare: <"AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!"> Cowabunga!

Jaden: < I had my first skydiving lesson today and wow.> Awesome! Myself, I want to go parasailing...not as far to fall, and you hit water as opposed to land ;)

Imzadi: Welcome back! <As long as it shows up in the time slot of something I'm already watching> Not South Park or XE! <I get into series because the main characters interest me> I agree, and main characters become main characters because they have the most compelling stories/histories/abilities. I remember especially not liking the Gargoyles episodes that purposely excluded Goliath or the Trio to give others more of the spotlight. <And it's not a Jaguar or a Fiat> Too bad on the Jaguar front. Now if it was a Porsche... <but even that had the upside of forcing me to develop a spine> Sorry to hear that; no one should be treated like dirt (except for a few choice people). Spines are good, and not just as zombie food! ;)

I'm gonna fall asleep. Adios!

Alright, enough procrastinating, time for

******Ride the Wild Wind Review With Spoilers******

THE GOOD: Focusing on a Neo-Knight. Sometimes Dulci, Rory, and Leba feel like the Trio during the world tour; stuck on the sidelines while the two leads and a new character get the bulk of the attention. I was especially pleased that Rory was the neo knight in question as he is one of my favorite characters from the television series.

-Exploration of the Rory/CuChulain relationship. "Hound of Ulster" left this fairly vague so an attempt to describe it was most welcome. It seems TGS Rory is closer to Azrael from Batman than Marvel's Thor; A mild mannered young man who shares his body with another, superhuman personality prone to destructive rages but who can be influenced by the aforementioned mild mannered personality. Interesting.

-Character History. This story was chock full of info about both personalities. Rory being a fairly good kid until Molly showed up makes sense considering how hung up his father seemed to be on morals and hard work.

-"I'll try and find some all-singing all-dancing tombs for you next time." -LOL! Who came up with that line? I'm tempted to use it as my Toonzone Forum signature.

-Seeing the immediate aftermath of the Dinas Bran battle. Reminded me of Buffy season 5, or Angel season 4 when one episode would pick up right where the last one left off. Also a nice reminder that unlike GARGOYLES, few of our heros have a stone sleep. They have to heal the old fashioned, slow way.

-Rory mentioning Pendragon Investigations. King Arthur P.I. was an intriguing concept, good to hear know it hasn't been forgotten entirely.

-Mary and Merlin affectionately teasing each other. An entertaining throwback to their season 3 interaction. Quite a refreshing alternative to TGS couples somberly professing their undying love.

-Rory's Darkside. So part of the reason Rory had trouble controlling the rages was that he got off on it? Understandable if a little frightening. This Season seems to be focusing on the various sins of the cast (Arthur & Ban's Head/The May Day Masscare, Merlin & Morgnaa, Duval & the Illuminati, etc).

-Herne. This Unsilee didn't make much of an impact on me when he first showed up in Season 2 but in this story he rocked! I loved his jabs at Rory, vindictive taunting always livens up a fight. The slow build up to his true identity made him seem even more menacing. I honestly didn't see it coming, I figured it had to have something to do with the Wild Hunt, but didn't count Herne, considering he was dead and all. And bringing him back in this manner mad him the perfect foil for Rory; A young Irishman trying to keep himself from being taken over by an ancient spirit vs. an ancient spirit that HAS taken over a young Irishman. Very Weisamanesque.

-Speaking of Villains, Deidre was treat as well. Smart, pragmatic, philisophical, and a decent tactician (as evidenced by her confrontation with Leba) yet at the same time vulnerable. Her change of heart made perfect sense to me. Not only did she disagree with Herne's approach to the gunt, but if she became a gang leader in order to rebel against her mousy identity as the opening implied, being taunted and made to feel small by Herne would probably piss her off to turn on the Hunt. In some ways she's as much of a mirror for Rory as Herne. Rory escaped from his dull life through thievery, and later from himself by giving into the rages while Deidre escaped from herself through magic and the Hunt. Hope we haven't seen the last of either of these villains. Deidre seems like prime Minion material.

-I loved the interaction between Rory and Leba. Thye're rapidly becoming one of my favorite duos (not couples, duos, like Abbot and Costello or Odo and Quark) Leba's maverick personality plays off well against Rory's straight man.

THE BAD:

-This story seemed to assume its readers were familiar with the legends of the Wild Hunt. I for one am not. I'm gessing its Irish based on this story, but I was still confused, particularily about the signifigance of Herne's oak. How did Leba know that it was what tied Herne to the Earthplane?
Did she learn about it from those folk songs Arthur sent her?

-For that matter, how did Leba make the association between the Hunt and the the legends of Lough Gur? I've read the story through twice, and while I may have missed something, Leba's feeling that the legends would help her figure out what was going on seemed to have come out of nowhere.

THE MISC:

A COUNTRY BY ANY OTHER NAME - Goll mentions Germany, Britain, and denmarl. admittedly I am a little fuzzy on pre-renaissance history but did any of these countries actually go by those names at the time of Christ?

THE MARGO OF PENDRAGON - The tourist Rory and Leba save, Minnie, isn't that the same woman (and cousin of Margo Yale) Arthur saves in "The Return"?

9.3 shadowy wolves out of 10.

Let's see...first post in months. I don't have much to say for myself, except that my internship at Apple kicked ass. The only downside was pursuit of one of the female interns, but even that had the upside of forcing me to develop a spine. Now when women treat me like dirt I'll be able to tell them to !@#$ OFF, instead of being pathetic/desperate.

Other news...my brand new car got into an accident about 2 weeks after I got it, so between that and fixing factory defects its spent about 25% of its life in the shop. And it's not a Jaguar or a Fiat.

I'm back in Berkeley cleaning up the apartment, getting ready for school, that kind of thing.

***TGS COMMENTS***

I *have* been reading all the Pendragon stories released this summer, and I liked them all except the last one. It was well written, but frankly I just don't find stories interesting when they focus on side characters. I get into series because the main characters interest me. I mean, would the World Tour really have been as interesting if it were Chavez and Vinnie?

Rory and Leba get so little screen time in the main plots that I can see the need for an episode where they get some fleshing out. But I think that fleshing out can be done with the other characters around, too.

Also, Diedre's sudden turn-around was out of character.

I finally did it. I had my first skydiving lesson today and wow. I recommend it to everyone. I thought it was a great way to end my week-long summer vacation. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be going again anytime soon since this time of year I'm really low on cash. It's hard to describe the feeling you get when you first step out of the plane.

Hope everybody affected by the blackout comes through with a minimum of hassle and that it's all fixed up soon!

Not much else to say at the moment. Spent yesterday at Dragonflight, ran a game (Elves in Black), going back today to run another (Holiday at Hogwarts).

TGS: RtWW> First off, I love the amount of detail in the descriptions (the beginning scene at the lake, for example) and the repartees between all the characters. The dialog was well done, and I appreciate when words like 'snorted/scoffed/snarled' are used next to quotes instead of constant back and forth 'he said/she asked'. Thus I was able to visualize the scenes and tension between the characters quite easily. I'm also glad Rory finally has a chance to go back to his roots and face some inportant points in his past (the story about the giants and unappreciative king, the stone that marks the place of his death, and the bridge where he and Molly used to hang out). I hope that story was real (well, real legend, anyway), as I quite enjoyed it. I guess after the last fic, I'm not troubled anymore by descrptions of people losing their heads!

Something that bothered me was Rory's use of "'tis" and "nay". I don't recall what he's used in past stories, but in "The Hound of Ulster", he used "it's/there's" and "no", so the change here was a bit jarring. I'm especially surprised because I know Ed hates writing dialects/accents. ;) Also, I don't understand why Diedre gave up the book of spells (unless it had only that one spell? I'm hoping that it gets used again, much like the Eye of Odin and Phoenix Gate were used again after they were recovered from Avalon). Finally, maybe I missed hints of it last season, but are Rory and Leba an item?

Overall, a good (long!) read. ;)

Lain-if there anything in particular (HTML coding wise) you guys are specifically looking for? Or will just general all over HTML knowledge suffice? I just don't want to be retard and apply if you're looking for specific HTML knowledge I don't posess.

speaking of HTML, I need a new layout. To bad my computer is not really letting me. I don't know what the hell is wrong, neither does my dad, the computer genius. We know it's not the worm, I've had this problem like 3 weeks, and the worm supposedly doesn't affect my OS anyway..

**TGS RECRUITMENT DRIVE ANNOUNCEMENT**

For the next two weeks, the TGS staff will be accepting applications for people to help us in the following fields:

1) Website Maintenence Staff. We are looking for people versed in HTML coding to assist the department heads in getting information updated to both the public and private staff websites, helping with (HTML)editing of stories and the possible creation of new pages or other assignments as needed.
Please include with your application a link to an example of a website you have created.

2)Breakdowns Staff. We are seeking those interested in participating in breakdowns for the "Dark Ages" spinoff series. This will involve the discussion of character and plot arcs for the season, and the formulation of a cohesive season plan and outlines from which stories will be written.
Please include either a sample or outline of your own fiction, or a collection of posts from any Gargoyles-related comment room showing a detailed understanding of the series.

3) Writing Staff. Specifically, we are seeking those interested in writing for the upcoming series "Dark Ages" and "Gargoyles" (Main Cycle) respectively, although those with more diverse interests may also be accepted.
Writing staff will need to have knowledge of the Canon Gargoyles series as well as the TGS continuation, and will (of course) need to have a solid grasp of the English language. With your application, please include either a copy of, or a link to, your work (preferably - though not exclusively - fan-fiction). As above, a collection of
comments from any Gargoyles-related discussion board, showing an understanding of of the series would also be favourable.
