Fire Storm> <<Just no unused explosives>>: Well, if you're going to hold an explosives party on a weekend, you have to hold some of your explosives in reserve until then, no matter how much you want to set them off right when you get them.
<<If I had a company>>: Well, get founding. I need a job.
<<Education, experience, and FINALLY what you know>>: But I have the first one.

Imzadi> Happy Birthday.
<<I miss the days when every dork and their dog wasn't online>>: You were online well before '93?
<<we just aren't there yet (publicly)>>: Apple's developed nanites that turns everyone's PC into Macs? I'd have thought the Linux community would have gotten there first. Or at least developed blue goo to save themselves.
<<Poor interview skills? Smelly? Don't shave?>>: But I make sure to smell purdy when I interview.

Spacebabie> <<I need those buds>>: Don't worry, your new found powers will find a way around them.

Na zdorov'ya.

I preorded the Lion King DVD today! I also picked up the Kim Possible VHS (I dont have a DVD player here, and if it sucked (it was okay), it was only $10). The "lost" episode was okay, but it seems like it was too out of character, I guess (maybe that's why it never aired, but what do I know?). At the end credits, they had it dedicated in memory of Gary Sperling.

I think I have this THING where all my history teachers have to embarrass me SOMEHOW, since my Westen Civilization teacher did it to me the other day...TWICE. About 5 minutes apart too. But he never picked on anyone else! GRR...

Yeah, and my College Writing teacher is a moron. All my teachers have something I don't like about them. Except my Java lab teacher (who doesn't really do anything, but clear stuff up in the lesson, but he isn't really supposed to do much anyway besides help us when we need it), he's cool. And he's pretty good looking too...

Now I have to hang with all my floor people...it's freaky how half of us are from Mass...

Good news: all the other baby kittens were spotted today.

Happy birthday Imzadi!!

Mooncat - <sometimes a momma cat will take a shine to a particular kitten and take it off from the rest of the litter, and shower it alone with her attention. But is this a wild/feral litter of kits? The previous litters of kitten have grown up to be mostly tame.

SPACEBABIE - Um, an e-mail about what? Is this the one that I got a little while ago about Rory and Cuchulain? Or was that from somebody else? (The person who sent it didn't use the name "Spacebabie", but a regular name; I don't know what your real name - as opposed to your Internet alias - is, and so I didn't know if it was you or somebody else.)

Leo > Glad you're okay.

Josh > Happy Birthday! I'm not a hippie, but I do believe in peace, love and understanding, it beats the alternative when two people look at each other funny and then kill each other.

Bud-Clare - There's nothing wrong with calling someone ignorant. The great thing about ignorance is it's seldom a permanent condition. An ignorant person can be taught.

To be rude or unwelcoming without knowing anything about the poster - she could be very young, speak a different language, or be a troll, but we'll probably never know because her first introduction to the room will probably be her last. That's a poor way to build a fandom, wouldn't you agree?

Todd I’ll be sending you an e-mail

Reporters are stupid. They just walk around in the hurrican and ablown onto their buts, what a bunch of idiots. Funny to watch though.

Must pimp Sounds, must pimp Sounds

I have a new favorite band. They are a Swedish band with an 80’s sound. The sound like Blondie and the leade singer even looks like Debbie Harry. My father purchased their CD last weekend and I saw their video on MTV on Thursday

The CD is kick ass including some great music you can put it into your CD rom drive and load up videos, bonus tracks, screen savers and wallpaper

*****TGS Spoilers******
I got a chuckle out of the bit at the end with Isfet. She’s cool but she’s a spoiled little princess. I’m not sure about Mary using magic. I can see Nimue performing the spell, but not Mary. I like the relation ship of the magic user/werewolf I’m glad This was a one time thing

Josh: <I don't know what job market you're in, but that is not true out here at all.>
Lucky. At least in the field I am in (IT work), degrees and certifications are the most important thing in the world. I have about 10 years of computer work experience (hardware, software, support, programming, etc, etc), but since my only degree/certification is an A+, I can't get a job over entry level help desk.
Now, those frigging paper MCSE's (the ones that can't even figure out how to use Word), and they can instantly get a $20 an hour job, no problem.
And most of the decent jobs out here require a BA in CompSci, and they won't even think about calling you unless there is a BA on your resume.
As for why I am in this field... it's what I know best right now, I hate sales, and anything else right now would be very entry level (less than I am getting paid now).
<They will ask you to think on your feet during interviews>
Oh, agreed. But the problem is getting to the point of getting those interviews.
<you're going to get laughed out of the room>
Thankfully. But, unfortunately, I have been to enough interviews that they don't even question your knowledge or ability to think on your feet.
<The last two are pretty much the same thing>
I meant previously having a job in the field. That doesn't mean that you know anything.
<They looked at my GE Intern of the Year Award.>
That is proof that you know what you are doing, above and beyond your degrees. So if that can be proved, SCORE!

YARRRRRR!

Good day. Not only did I pick up a shiny new leather jacket, but I also knocked off one of my homework assignments for next week! Silly professor gave us the exact same problem that he gave in last year's undergraduate class...which I took.

Bud-Clare: <<without getting a note from my mother>>: I know the type.
<<Isn't that one of the Forbidden Curses?>>: Why would it be forbidden?
<<If you think that will help>>: It keeps me out of relationships with nagging and/or domineering women.
<<You only _posted_ it first. I typed it first>>: How do you know?
<<*L*>>: That's the only way I can describe it.

Mecord: <<cat>>: Bizarre.

Vash: <<why would someone make a spell to banish the spear?>>: It wasn't specifically written to banish the spear. It was written to banish all sorts of things.
<<would there be any danger in the spell accidentally banishing Excalibur as well?>>: They made it clear that the spell had to be performed while standing over the item. So no. Again, the spell was not specific to the spear.
<<I wonder why dragons are immune to fae magic.>>: Because those are the rules. Wouldn't have been much of a war if they weren't, would it?

TGS Staff: <<what the heck is hiatus?>>: does this indicate a need to dumb down the language? I miss the days when every dork and their dog wasn't online.

Question: <<why exactly did the 3rd Race forge excalibur from the same ore that made the Godslayer?>>: It was there.

Ed: <<I think we felt that it felt a bit petty in light of the crisis they were facing>>: She's a teenage girls. They don't understand that there is no time/place for their petty jealousies, because that's the world to them.
<<That’s a story for another day>>: No, he asked it already 8-)

Kathy: <<my first foray into sausage making>>: Pervert.
<<Josh will probably ask why?>>: Nope.
<<t'd be nice if the world level of hostile dropped just a little and the way to do it is one kind act at a time>>: That's a nice thought, hippy, but it ain't happening. And frankly, I find that people are less inclined to ask stupid questions and be annoying if they think that their actions will incur retaliation. The world would be a better place if people looked up words in dictionaries before frantically posting things like "SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT HAITUS MEANS!!!!"

Mooncat: <<The boom box can be explained away if it is set up for remote control>>: It wasn't.
<<EMP doesn't kill normal humans, does it? Jake is still organic, and depending just what those nanites are composed of it's possible they are partly organic or something>>: Uh, no. EMP doesn't kill humans, but the show made it clear in the first episode that the nanites are critically tied into his nervous system, which could lead to blindness or death. That means that if they go, he should go too. Otherwise they could just be surgically removed. And the nanites aren't "partly organic or something". They might have an organic coating, but the term "nanite" in its sci-fi incarnations implies totally inorganic micromachines.
<<A lot of sci-fi tv series play fast and loose with real science and logic,>>: Fortunately for them, people are dumb. Geeks aren't.
<<the whole 'stone by day and flesh by night' as a normal biological function from natural evolution instead of straight out magic>>: Yeah, that one is tough to rationalize away. But then, gargoyles isn't sci-fi, it's fantasy. Jake 2.0 isn't, so the rules (as in, the physical ones) still apply. Nanites are absolutely possible, we just aren't there yet (publicly). But I get the feeling that the show's writers think to themselves "we'll wave the science and technology wand and everyone will accept that as an explanation because they don't know better". EMP does certain things, and if Jake isn't dead then all the nanites in his body certainly should be.

Fire Storm: <<I've learned that in the job market it is not important what you know but what degrees you have>>: I don't know what job market you're in, but that is not true out here at all. The name of the school is more important than the degree, but work experience counts most of all (a.k.a. what you know). They will ask you to think on your feet during interviews, and if you say "pay no attention to your own question, look at this shiny degree from U of Phoenix!", you're going to get laughed out of the room. You also need excellent interview skills. Hygiene helps. Connections don't hurt either.
<<I hate "A Catcher in the Rye." I really do>>: Amen.
<<Education, experience, and FINALLY what you know>>: The last two are pretty much the same thing. You won't know anything without experience. I can that when I interviewed for positions last summer, no one looked at my classes and my degree. They looked at my GE Intern of the Year Award.

DPH: <<Then I took a break to rest and think about what is going on>>: Weirdo.
<<yes, I'm no longer a coward>>: Wrong again. You are emotionally disturbed about chasing off a possum.

Gside: <<Depends on the job market>>: I make my own market 8-)
<<you can't argue against the occaisonal propaganda>>: Only the facts, please.
<<Then why don't I have a job?>>: Poor interview skills? Smelly? Don't shave?

Off to dreamland. Busy day tomorrow.

Friends don't let friends use Windows.

DPH -- sometimes a momma cat will take a shine to a particular kitten and take it off from the rest of the litter, and shower it alone with her attention. But is this a wild/feral litter of kits? I'm afraid I don't know the particulars so it's hard to say what is likely. Mother cats can act differently to different litters of kittens.

Underworld -- The theatre had a person at the auditorium door checking ID. Apparently it's a very popular movie, and since it's rated R they were doing on the spot checks before you could take a seat. 2 hour movie and pretty good. Local paper gave it a one star review and said Dracula was spinning in his grave, but all my friends and I liked it and the audience at the end sounded pretty pleased. I probably will see it again before it leaves the threatre. After the movie my friends and I went to an ice cream shop to talk over the show, because we liked it enough to discuss it till the ice cream shop closed.

Now off to early (relatively speaking) bedtime so I can be conscious during the Faire tomorrow.

Ah, forget the parents! Kids are allowed to enjoy themselves! I am just glad that companies still produce life-size toys so kids can explore their sexuality, like that Jar-Jar doll, the Harry Potter broom, and the N64 controller.

kathy - <owever, that you understood that the possum was just doing what possums do, scavanging for easy food, despite the fact that the critter's meal was that little kitty, shows real maturity. > I had an interesting short conversation with a teacher about my wanting revenge on the possum being . . rather pointless. I could have took the logical approach and let the possum be, but I'm striving to embrace emotion more than logic right now.

Mooncat - <Did you find the rest of the babies yet?> I have a working theory that the rest of the babies are dead. I can't prove it directly, but I have indirect evidence. When the kittens were outside before and I took the mother inside with me for a while, she generally became pretty insistant on going outside within a few moments. This afternoon, I took the mother inside with me for about 20 minutes and she wasn't too jumpy about going outside. Plus the fact that kitten was by itself when I last saw it living suggests the rest were . . dead by that point. (What mother cat would separate one healthy kitten from the rest of the litter?)

Green Baron - On the off chance you're reading this, can you give about the 411 on what happenned in Kosovo regarding the newest democratic candidate for president? I'm curious about current soldiers think of their former general.

DPH > That's tough luck about the kitten. However, that you understood that the possum was just doing what possums do, scavanging for easy food, despite the fact that the critter's meal was that little kitty, shows real maturity.

Living out in the country we often get "Circle of Life" lessons tossed at us at the oddest moments and they seldom seem to resemble anything Disney creates.

Speaking of which. I figured out what's wrong with my goose. It turns out that the pair of slate turkeys toms, both of which are due to feature prominently in meals that include, cornbread stuffing and multitudinous other side dishes, have been jockeying for top bird spot. Yeah, they were picking on the goose which happens to be a gander. He's going to be fine. At least for the short term. Someone told me recently that Michaelmas is coming up and the traditional meal is roast goose...

Greg B. > Now, now, the ignorant can be taught if they are led gently. Less snark the next time someone asks a dumb question please.

On animation. Boyd Kirkland is the animation producer for X-men Evolution, and it's kind of interesting that I have a JEM cel with his autograph on it. It's always kind of a mini shock to see how many familiar names show up on all my favorite animations. Frank Paur, Boyd Kirkland... and the lines of separation between shows are pretty short. Jem to Gargoyles in two easy steps... Boyd Kirkland worked on Jem and works on X-men with Frank Paur who worked on Gargoyles. Well, I guess I could make that even shorter as Greg Weisman did a script for Jem once, and Christy Marx who was for Jem what Greg was for Gargoyles did a script for X-men Evolution. Which shows the connection for GI Joe, Reboot, and a slew of other cartoons to Gargoyles just through Christy. Then there is one of my favorite voice actors, Kath Soucie who does a lot of Gargoyles females, who did one of my fave Jem characters Minx. Voice actors alone make one degree links from Gargoyles to countless other cartoons, and usually only two or three degrees from every North American produced animation.

well... 5am now so I'm off to bed so I can be bright and perky for Underworld tonight *^_^*

*thinks for a second* I'm definitely not in a Emry's reclining mood and somehow Human Lex just isn't appropriate for me right now.

I feel more emotionally disturbed than normal.

What the heck happenned? Let's see. I saw possum eating one of my baby kittens so I went after it. I chased into a corner and tried attacking it. But I couldn't get very mad at it. I started to tire from trying to injure so I called my dad for help. I continued, and temporarily immobilized the possum. Then I took a break to rest and think about what is going on. My dad arrived and finished off the possum. The whole incident has left me emotionally drained. Losing a baby kitten, even if I am not that connected to it is draining. I guess I have a pretty strong connection to the mother of that baby kitten, the cat I call "Hunter". I am a little worried about her since I haven't seen her since this morning. I'm also concerned about the fate of the other baby kittens.

And yes, I'm no longer a coward. I'm getting help to restore my sanity.

Let's see... worked last Friday, off for 5 days, not too bad.
Didn't get anything accomplished. Too sick for that.
On the 13th, we went to the RenFair, and since LM was in a corset all day, it made a nice birthday present. Slept the 14th (17+ hours. I was exausted)
Blah, blah. blah...

Ravyn: <There's gotta be some online degree mill somewhere>
I can only hope.
<Long time no see! How's LM doing? Please say hi to her for me>
Done! We's good.

Gside: <Every country should have one>
Hell, there should be a high explosives party every weekend!
<Too old of a game to release a peripheral just for it>
True... it's just too bad that they didn't release them together here.
<He had enough proplems without having to be a Unix text editor.>
Very true. I am also glad that his job as a Windows assistant bombed.
<Sorry, I worked for mine.>
And I applaud you for that.

Imzadi: <Is that better than the apathy party?>
Yep. They care enough to blow stuff up.
<He blew up.>
He blew up REAL GOOD!
<Or rather, we'll put some american in her!>
I think that Gunjack is doing that quite well.
<No, that's what Carrot Top is for.>
And he is why there is a High Explosives party.
<Why would you want one?>
I've learned that in the job market it is not important what you know but what degrees you have. I want to get the BA in CompSci out of the way as quickly (and cheaply) as possible so I can concentrate on what I want to (I need the CompSci BA to be able to afford to take the classes I want)

Spacebabie: <True, but you don’t need an excuse for caramel frappucinos>
Or a Mocha Coconut frapachino.

Niamhgold: <I must learn to channel my annoy-the-annoyed energy to someplace more beneficial>

ED - <Vash: Funnily enough, I think Todd toned down the ‘jealous Mary’ angle between drafts. Todd will know better, but as I recall I think we felt that it felt a bit petty in light of the crisis they were facing.>

Yes, in the first draft I went for Mary being more out and out jealous of Nimue and even fearing that Merlin would seriously turn back to her (Nimue). But then I had second thoughts about it when I thought over their interaction in "Home for the Holidays" where the two of them share their fears and concerns with each other, and felt that jealousy on that angle didn't feel right. It would work better for a relationship based more on simple infatuation, rather than on friendship and trust (trust enough to be able to confide in each other). So I toned it down some.

VASHKODA - I forgot to mention it, but that was a lovely concept of yours about the possibility of Mary considering learning magic to be a worthier "girl-friend" and Merlin finally telling her that she doesn't need to do that. Pity that we (the staff) didn't think of it. At any rate, I believe that Mary's more suited for the role of a warrior than of a wizard.

Josh -- Well, it did stress the "fantasy" part of techno geek fantasy, but it's still kinda neat. The boom box can be explained away if it is set up for remote control, then the nanites could somehow interface with the IR receiver (okay, thin but on the edge of possible) -- the EMP blast was the big plot boo boo, but even if the nanites are fried, EMP doesn't kill normal humans, does it? Jake is still organic, and depending just what those nanites are composed of it's possible they are partly organic or something. A lot of sci-fi tv series play fast and loose with real science and logic, so I tend to be a bit forgiving if the rest of an episode is fun. My suspension of disbelief is still pretty resiliant after the whole 'stone by day and flesh by night' as a normal biological function from natural evolution instead of straight out magic in the Gargoyles universe.

Mecord > I'd go with disturbing bordering on wrong.

Geeze, why is it the weeks when I get the most done I feel the most behind? I suppose it doesn't help that my never ending "Honey Do" list (where in this instance 'Honey' is me), has been aided and abetted by half a dozen minor crisises, including a goose with a kink in its neck. I don't know what's wrong, I do know I should probably kill it and process it, but it's still too warm to hang birds for proper conditioning. I don't suppose anyone here has any clues? ::crickets:: thought not, wrong forum.

On the upside, my first foray into sausage making - chicken, bacon and apple was a success. The dogs and cats are safe from the grinder unlike in Phom Pen (I know that's spelled wrong, but I'm just too tired to look it up) you know, capital city of Cambodia, the mayor there is encouraging people to eat more dog - Someone else can riff on Chick Fillet - because there are too many strays on the streets.

Hurricane - I want some of that rain here please.

Sleepy now.

Josh & Vash: Thanks for the reviews.

Vash: Funnily enough, I think Todd toned down the ‘jealous Mary’ angle between drafts. Todd will know better, but as I recall I think we felt that it felt a bit petty in light of the crisis they were facing.

Alexia: Hiatus simply means a break. Each season takes years to produce from first planning, episode discussions, outlining the episodes, writing the episodes, rewriting the episodes, editing the episodes, illustrating the episodes and finally preparing the episodes for release on the web. Consequently, while one season is being released, the other series are on hiatus – a break until they’re ready to be released. Currently ‘Timedancer’ has just finished its run and ‘Pendragon’ is being released, so ‘Bad Guys’, ‘Dark Ages’ and ‘Gargoyles’ are presently being developed.

Question: That’s a story for another day.

VASHKODA - You make a good point about Isfet's fate being a little too comedic. However, Team Rocket wasn't the inspiration for it. The actual inspiration was the scene in "Buffy" (Season Five) where Willow and Tara use a teleportation spell on Glory that teleports her a couple of thousand feet above Sunnydale, followed by Glory beginning to swear in disgust before the effects of gravity kick in. With maybe a little influence from the scene in "The Green" where Jackal got knocked back all the way to the Cyberbiotics villa.

Jim R.> Ah, damn that perfectionist in all of us.

TGS: tG2> Usually I split these into 'complementary comments' and 'critical comments', but today I'm just going to go in order, so sorry if it's disorganized. I'm surprised Monteagle jumps from being suspicious about magic and Arthur to believing Arthur's innocence, just because he sees gargoyles. In the back of my mind, I would be wondering if Arthur arranged the guys in black to rob Mr. M's place, just to make Arthur look good and make him lead Arthur to where the spear is really kept. I'm also surprised Mr. M didn't protest when Arthur accused him of stealing the spear (how would Arthur be able to prove it?). I also thought the whole point of researching alternatives to destroying the spear was so that it could be returned to Mr. M. What was the point of banishing it instead of trying to destroy it (except so that it can now return in a future TGS fic) when the end result was still the same for Mr. M? Also, why would someone make a spell to banish the spear? I think that spell needs a backstory (all we know is that it was written in Atlantean times). And since Excalibur is made from the same meteor (another interesting point--the two meeting reminds me of the wands in HP) would there be any danger in the spell accidentally banishing Excalibur as well? I did think it was a nice point to have Mr. M. lust after Excalibur, and Arthur's fear of him going after the Grail if he knew about it. It's too bad they didn't take advantage of Mr. M's library to look up more Grail references as well (I can picture Mary sneaking out a potentially interesting book, a la Willow in the Mayor's office). I also found it interesting that Nimue admitted to being afraid of Merlin in the past because of their age difference. I did wonder if more would come out of Mary having overheard Merlin confess to Nimue that he missed having a magically-oriented person around. A bit of jealousy/regret would have been nice. It also would have made Mary's attempt to memorize and perform the spell that much more poignant. However, Mary has enough on her plate being Arthur's squire that I really don't see her taking up magic as well. It might be nice to see her strive to learn and fail, however, with Merlin then coming up to her and telling her that it doesn't matter, that she's special to him for other reasons, yadda yadda. It's nice to see a tie-in with the Timedancer series through the spear/Apep connection. I wonder why dragons are immune to fae magic. It was interesting to learn that Ra was a halfling, and to see how Apep was imprisoned. I wonder who fathered/mothered the dragonmen in the present (interesting that Isfet isn't unique). Unfortunately, in this part of the fic, the dragonmen hardly seemed like much of a challenge, especially when they ran off (the climax just sort of dissipated at that point). It was nice to see the gargs turn to stone in the middle of the battle, though, reminding us of their weak point. I was a little disappointed that the ending was so silly, with Isfet "blasting off again" and making a dragon-shaped hole in the cieling of her HQ (how was she flung so far?). I'm still not sure I understand her grudge against the gryphon knights (just because they were Chronus's bodyguard?). I did like the connection between the gryphon knights and the griffin in the previous story, which was also supposed to be related to the grail. I'm not sure how possessing the spear would help one reach Carbonek, though. As for the groups of knights now officially splitting up, I'm not sure it really needed an announcement. The groups have already felt split up all this time. I guess the Avalon Tour Part 2 will now officially begin.

Oh, btw, good story. ;)

I'm going to have a tough time deciding what to watch on Wednesdays, with Jake/Smallville/West Wing all running at the same time. Need Tivo.

***TGS COMMENTS***

Okay the stuff about Mary helping to cast the banishing spell was just dumb.

This whole story just felt really shallow. Nothing was fleshed out, particularly dialog. Time wasn't spent as Mary tried to memorize words IN A LANGUAGE SHE"D NEVER HEARD OF, and no one bothered trying to make the rich guy understand what was going on (even though it would have been futile, the characters didn't know unless they tried). Nimue and Merlin didn't really deal with their pasts other than to say "sorry, my bad".

The action was good this time around, and even well-written. I also liked the intervention of Harthoth at the end and the wrap-up with Jane. The war against the gods was VERY cool. I wish it could have been animated.

It feels kind of like the difference between TV and Text isn't quite getting covered in TGS. The writers should remember that a lack of visuals means more descriptions are needed. The way a character falls when they pass out needs to be written in simile (for example). This helps the reader visualize the story and make it more fleshed-out.

***END TGS COMMENTS***

Bud-Clare: <<I feel so educated now>>: It'll pass.
<<You've said worse things with even less justification>>: Perhaps.
<<Wanna see what happens when you let a woman have a chainsaw?>>: No. I refuse to let women think they have power 8-)
<<It's never going to be on the same level as either of those, is it?>>: That depends. If Ashcroft has his way.
<<While it may be funny to throw people in the deep water and expect them to learn to swim, some nice wading is usually more helpful and less stressful>>: You wouldn't last long here.
<<If something goes wrong, you'll be the first one we blame>>: Fine.
<<Dammit, you beat me to it>>: I usually post before you.
<<So as long as there's no leather, it's okay?>>: Leather is fine. Whips and nipple clamps are not.
<<Why not? Everyone else does>>: I thought I beat you to it? That usually implies that you don't say the exact same thing 8-)

Todd: <<I thought that we had plenty of action in Part One, with the fight with Isfet's minions and the flashback to Balinos creating the spear>>: The latter is not action.

Mooncat: <<Do you mean too ambiguous?>>: No, it just makes no sense. You can't wirelessly interact with something that has no wireless interface. You might be able to fix a broken computer if it had a wireless card, but it'd have to be already be on. You couldn't look at a stereo and turn it on, or even change the volume. Also, that EMP tonight should have killed him. EMP isn't a "dose" thing, it's an all or none. It destroys every circuit in the blast radius. Period.
<<So it's like he's got a built in wireless keyboard and mouse, and I guess his brain is the cpu>>: Yes, just like that. Except retarded.
<<Hopefully that isn't a bad thing>>: No, I just thought it was funny.

Gside: <<Would you rather hire someone with no degree? Or a philosophy degree?>>: No, but those are never my only choices.
<<What about commies>>: I wish.
<<Whether you have an invisible surface that surrounds things, or you apply remote forces on groups of atoms. And then how fast can you vibrate? As fast as you can vibrate your hands?>>: I'd imagine having an invisible surface that surrounds things, and being able to vibrate it as fast as I can imagine something vibrating (which is pretty damned fast).
<<Just some mindless Mac bashing to aid the balance>>: That implies mindless mac pushing. Don't have that here.
<<You've never tried it, have you?>>: No.

<<I don't imagine it'd be difficult to get "this" block of air to vibrate quickly against "that" block of air>>: Depends on how you grab stuff. Whether you have an invisible surface that surrounds things, or you apply remote forces on groups of atoms. And then how fast can you vibrate? As fast as you can vibrate your hands?
<<It's not meant to be taken internally>>: That's not what they said.
<<Are you saying something?>>: Just some mindless Mac bashing to aid the balance.
<<I would. Aggressive women are good. Dominatrices aren't>>: You've never tried it, have you?
<<I'm more concerned with the electronics IN the computer, actually>>: I believe the "for electronics" was a discriptor on the endust, not something to stand on its own.
<<the condom wall?>>: I thought it was the video evidence that was the utterly horrible part.

Bud Clare> <<I feel so educated now>>: I love copy and paste. Though you can find more at the Jargon File.

Jake 2.0

Me like! Jake undergoes training, and after several weeks is still not field ready, though he tries hard... too hard. The clock is ticking as the powers that be want to see concrete results. If Jake isn't up to field agent status by a deadline, his future is to be a "contained" lab subject (though no one has told him this yet). Concerned scientist lady (I'm so bad with names) spends extra time with him and we learn that Jake's nanites have several limits. They are really miniscule computers so have all the vulnerabilities a computer can have, including (in theory) being hacked. Also, if they are over taxed in performance they will shut down.

Jake is still in the "gosh this is cool stage" but the dark side of his new reality slaps him in the face as a team of field agents he's been watching as examples of good working operatives are killled transporting an EMP bomb. It's been hijacked by a terrorist agent out to avenge a slain brother, a civilian killed because of mistaken NSA intel.

In what looks like a series trend, the plot boils down to tense race against the clock as the terrorist decoys the NSA's field operatives away from the main headquarters, while infiltrating and activating the EMP bomb's timer.

Jake thinking over his training agent's advice realizes that the bomb is in the building, manages to find it and get it into a shielded room... but not before getting blasted with a part of the pulse as he gets the door shut.

Without the nanites, and in an already beaten up state, Jake decoys the terrorist into the holographic "danger room" he's been training at and uses holographic recordings of himself to get the terrorist to use up his ammunition. Then, when the last bullet is fired, shuts things down, limps up to the terrorists and clocks him with a lead pipe.

Good job Jake! -- This episode shows Jake is more than just his nanites, and his actions earn him official agent status... for now.

Again tried recording on my DVD recorder. Again when I hit stop it squirrelled up. I was distracted and accidently hit stop multiple times to be sure I got it, which is just as bad as hitting power off. Damn... another disk bites the dust.

Highly recommend Jake 2.0, it's tech geek spy boy fantasy that is fast paced and fun.

Josh -- [This is too random. And makes no sense.] Do you mean too ambiguous? They don't give much of an explanation of it in the show, just demonstrations of what he can do. Such as hack an electronic lock, change street lights, etc. He doesn't have to touch anything, so it's not a physical interface with the nanites, but he *thinks* very intently (nice intent stare with slightly twitchy eyes and mouth to show how intensely he's thinking). So it's like he's got a built in wireless keyboard and mouse, and I guess his brain is the cpu.

[Also, your spoilers read EXACTLY like a magazine article.] -- Hopefully that isn't a bad thing. Every magazine article I've read so far hasn't given any details on the show's contents, just blurbs that twenty something guy gets powers and "critics love it". The one article I read that made me want to see the show was in some British sci fi mag which said [paraphrasing] that it would have an immediate fan following who would launch a massive petition to get it to return when it's cancled in the first season. It was tongue in cheek enough to get me to go out of my way to watch.

***

Just had the strangest dream. I dreamed I was Buffy (tVS) and I was in a neighborhood where ordinary people suddenly turned maniacal and started killing others. A few hard core blood and guts scenes with garage style work shop power tools, and the warning signs were the animals were acting strangely. Squirrels stopped still and if you walked up to them you could nudge them with your foot and they wouldn't react. Owls hovered in mid-air, etc. And my cats, which somehow were part of the dream were very anxious as well.

In my dream I got to watch an uncrazed neighbor seized by a crazed one and ripped to shreds while a crowd of growing crazed people watched. The victim screamed "help! why won't somebody help me?" as gardening tools and stuff were turned into living autopsy equipment.

The disturbing thing is I woke up to the sound of a chainsaw... a neighbor is cutting (or having something cut) in his yard. And all my bedroom cats were letting me know quite aggressively that the food bowls were empty.

On the nicer side, I also dreamt someone gave me a really nice silver necklace of a bat winged cat. I loved the design and I hope I can retain the image of it long enough to sketch it.

Andrea: For you, I wouldn't do all red. Perhaps streak some strands a dark auburn color, or maybe highlight your hair with something of the copper or gold. It would bring out the eyes especially with a few highlights that are the same hue, but lighter than, your natural hair color ;)

But that's just my advice. And I've done purple and green for Halloween before ;)

Ok, now that I've been alone for about a week, I fell SOO much better. If it wasn't for all all but one of my classes being absolutely sucky, college life would kick ass. (We're behind in Java, it's the teacher's first time teaching that class, and her english isn't too great, Calculus wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't about 100 suiggested problems to do every few sections, College writing is really, "Read a few writing pices that are dumb and boring, and write a 5 page essay on it", and history is boring. Java lab is cool though, you don't even have to go to class, you just need to hand in the labs on time).

I've been trying to get my stupid history (excuse me, "Wester Civilization") paper done (a piece of historical fiction), btu I can't concontrate! I never could. It's hard to keep myself focused on working, I just can't sit still that long. Anyone got any tips? Making a schedule doesn't help, since I can't seem to force myself to stick to it. (I have about half of it done, and I have plenty of ideas, but I just can't seem to actually WORK on it). But hey, as soon as I get it done, and go down to the lab tomorrow to print out my java lab (my printer ran out of black in at the wrong time), I'm done my homework for the weekend (they are both due Thursday anyway)!

And those of you who actually remember what I look like, do you think I should cut my hair and/or dye it (a shade of red)? I'm considering doing it, but I want some opinions. I have a few pics of me taken in June of 2001 if you forgot what I look like (or never knew), I look largely the same. Just clickie my name, and you can change the 1 to a 2 or 3 to see all 3 pics I have.

Now my last problem is how to stop this recent fruit snack addiction of mine...

Ah, I love it when group members flake out on me. "I've got an inflexible schedule" and "I'm going to be unavailable Oct. 4,5,6,9,11,12,13,15-22,24, and 27-30." Sure, sure. It's not like this catalog has to be printed in the first week of November and that I told 'em five weeks ahead of time that everything is due by October 17th. Not to mention that my team members are suddenly making up "days off" when I told them a long while ago that I was taking off 7 days. I get first dibs with seniority ;)

::grumbles::

In more compelling news, a hurricane is headed this way. My mom has been telling me to "freeze milk in an ice cube tray." And the latter part of these past few days has been spent updating my website. Woot!

I will smite them all in burnination! ;):

FS: <It's fun to annoy the easily annoyed.> I must learn to channel my annoy-the-annoyed energy to someplace more beneficial... ;)
<OHHHH! THAT sounds like too much fun to be true!> I'm animating Micatron in a cheating still-frame animation ;)

Imzadi: <Senior year is only the easiest if you make it that way. If you tack on extra work, you're a schmuck ;-)> Woohoo! I'm a schmuck!
<Kinky.> Except for the razor-sharp zombie fang part.
<You mean like Nietzsche?> Gesundheit.
<Amazon shipped me a CD jewel case for Less Than Jake's "Greased", but neglected to enclose the CD> Aw, burninate them all!
<How the world hates us because we're a bunch of arrogant assholes> But...but it's been good for the duct tape industry! ;)
<The dust bunnies in my computer were so large they'd become sentient> Ahh! Beware the sentient dust bunnies!
< I feel your pain. I'm hoping Apple will get off their ass.> There's still plenty of time...they'll have you back, I'm sure.
<All they need is a good deep !@#$ing.> That's always a plus ;)

Lynati: <Spiff!! When is it up? I wanna see> January 30th-March 14th, Decker Gallery here at MICA.
<ooo, lucky! I wanna meet art spiegelmann. If I had the spine, I’d look him up when I visit New York> Yeah...but he's a really expensive/picky guest...he charges 100,000 for speaking AND the ability to smoke on stage.

Andrea: <Meaning I have to listen to people having the SAME discussions about it all day. (I'm sure you all are aware of what I'm reffering to).> Magically, I avoided those discussions. My instructors apparently don't care anymore ;)
<...I have a pen pal in Australia that is about my age and he's NEVER seen snow in real life.> Lucky soul. Snow is the worst thing I've ever encountered.

Mandi: <Got back from Ireland on Sunday> ::Is envious:: Must get out there one day.
<Then again, I am the twit who decided to overlap an elective with another elective graduate class that I took for undergrad credit and took part in "Pride and Prejudice" that same semester, so maybe I'm not a baseline example.)> As the Baltimoreans would say, "Ouch, hon!"
<Seriously, though, don't be like me senior year. Take it easy, okay? :)> So basically you're giving me permission to crack the whip on my flakey team members? ;) As for the dizziness...I really think it's lack of sleep, too much caffeine, or a dormant alien being about to pop out of my stomach and beat me to death with my own skull...

Dezi: <Apparently, GWB declared it Patriot Day last year at the ceremonies> Wait a minute...there already IS a Patriot Day. You get it off in Massachusetts (I think it's sometime in October).

Sooooo much to do, sooooo little time :)
Adios!

Oh man, yesterday was a little shaken up for me. Very scary too. So may I ask, has the following (or anything similar) ever happened to anyone in here...

I was working yesterday morning when the front office received a phone call from the wife of a co-worker, whose name also happens to be Jim. (There are 4 guys named Jim [or James] where I work including me) Anyways from what I understood, she was calling to warn us that her husband (Jim) had left for work and was acting very strangely. She had already notified the police and suggested we do the same. Luckily, our offices are right across the street from the local police station, so we tend not to worry about things, but the police were notified of the potential situation.

When Jim came in at 9:30 he was acting strange. I don't know why. This Jim has always been the kind of person that asks you all sorts of things about your life, the prying type, but always mostly happy. He took his 2 kids sledding in the winter on the large hill across the street from where I live. I usually snowboard there too. So I can say I never saw the man angry. He mostly did delivery work, using the company van and some small jobs where needed.

What happened in the next 10 minutes no one saw coming. He went straight into the supervisor's office and threatened to kill him, and he had a gun. No, I am not making this up. But that was it, immediately after he fled the building. No one was harmed. The police came and the building remained on lockdown for the rest of the day and was patrolled hourly throughout the night.

I was questioned today, even though I didn't witness any of it. They suspect he has already left the state (I live about 20 miles from the Maryland border) and they aren't even sure if the gun was loaded, but it's just scary to think of nevertheless. Shippensburg is such a small town (on the top 40 best small places to live), so incidents like this seldom happen, and even more rarely off-campus. But I swear, about 30% of it probably happens where I work. Everything from temporary hired labor people stealing checks to having a drunken guy break in, bust a hole in the bathroom wall, and being found on the floor naked the next day (no kidding). And now this. I must go to work on an ancient Indian burial ground. =/

Terribly sorry if all this upsets anyone.

---------------------------------------------------------

Vash> <<thought you'd said last time that you had one all ready to go, and only needed to upload it.>>
Well, I did...sorta. But I guess you know how it is, I got better ideas, and more experience with things. I figured I wanted to make a video that would out-do myself from before, because I know I can. =)

Spacebabie> <<Welcome back.>> Thanks! ;)

Hurricane> Looks, like the projected path crosses right through PA around Friday. I hope we don't receive too much damage other than maybe a few downed power lines. It would be sweet if those power lines belonged to the university and it took them days to fix it.

Apple Powerbooks> I knew the day would come. My 12" Powerbook is outdated now! Noooo. =)

Because the computer was acting sluggish since using some trial software (downloaded because a friend is interested in making digital remixes) and some other problems that cropped up since the Death Of My Hard Drive a wee bit ago, I decided to do a reformat. After carefully making sure I got a full night's sleep, I started the day off carefully making a full new back up on a new 200GB external hard drive I bought just for making back ups and storing video files. After making sure all was in readiness I formatted...

And accidently reformatted the external HD back up.

I thought it was a partition on my main drive. Not only did I reformat, I changed something in it so even with the latest XP drivers it's not detected or accessible by my computer.

So now (stored data wise) I'm back exactly to where I was when my Hard Drive crashed before >_< grrrrrrrrrrr Fortunately I still had my original back up from last November on a smaller external HD that I planned to use for storage on my lap top. *whew!* So I didn't lose much more since the original Hard Drive Death, but the e-mail loss since November last year, and I now have a $300 dollar paper weight in the form of one toasted external HD. *slowly and continuously bangs head on computer desk*

Other than that, weather's been absolutely gorgeous, though my best friend from Highschool and College and after who lives in VA is in the pathway of Hurricane Isobel, and I wish her all the good fortune possible for the safety of herself and family. The same to all our fandom also in the path of dangerous weather.

Saw "Once Upon A Time In Mexico" and loooooooved it *^_^* For those who loved Mariachi and Desperado, this is the third of the trilogy and has Johnny Depp as the most deplorable bastard who still manages to make you love him and hope he's in a new trilogy of movies.

Jake 2.0 premiered last week and was extremely promising as a 'cute but geeky guy gets powers by accident and becomes a masculine La Femme Nikita with nanites' -- Spiderman meets Six Million Dollar Man. In a one hour debut, the show nails it's premise and closes a tense, suspense filled episode with all it's main players in place and loads of future episode foreshadowing.

SPOILER WARNING
*
*
*
*
*
Jake who is computer tech support for the National Security Agency is in the wrong place at the wrong time during the failed jacking of one of the Agency's experiments in nanite technology and is unknowingly infected with the little buggers. The experimental technology which in some of the test animals caused a variety of horrific side effects from convulsions, blindness or complete and fatal rejection of the nanite intrusion could possibly cripple or kill our occassionally freaked out hero.

Quiet Jake had dreamed of a more exciting life and applied for agent status twice before and been denied, now has the choice of becoming the focus of an experimental covert agent program while being studied by his grimly concerned superiors... or else just an unwilling lab rat.

He now has enhanced everything, sight, hearing speed, strength... and the most cool power, the ability to interface wirelessly with computer systems. Now all he has to do is learn how to control these new and sometimes awkward abilties.

Mix in the love interest, glossy blonde (I forget her name, is it Elisabeth) who he's had a crush on since college and is now the aide of a local senator (I believe the setting is Washington DC?) who thinks of him as a nice friend who can fix her computer when it fritzes. The Steve Trevor to his Diana Prince, a confident blonde "A List" type who considers the computer geek a "dependable pal" type.

Another possible love connections is the pretty, but equally geeky lady doctor involved with the nanite project. Brains, dark hair and glasses, our hero hasn't noticed she's female yet. But hey, only so much you can stuff in the 45 minutes you get in a one hour program sans commercials.

Supporting cast include clueless "Larry of Threes Company" type room mate and best friend - Tough top notch agent who has been forcibly retired from the field when his cover was compromised, and is now going to be Jake's mentor/team leader. And the very ruthless administrator, who could turn out to be a love interest for our mentor guy, as there seemed to be chemistry between her and him.

Let the spy games begin!

*** end spoilers ***

Liked the show and carefully recorded it sans commercials on DVD while it aired... and then hit Power Button instead of Stop at the end of the program. Effectively foobarring the entire disk. This is what tape recording has over disk. If you stop the machine or lose power while recording, you don't lose what you have recorded so far. *grumbles*

In other news, UNDERWORLD begins this friday *yay* and then I get to go to the Renfaire on Saturday with friends *^_^*... wheeeeee!!!

And Gargoyles related... plan to work on art this week. *crosses fingers for luck* if chores and obligations leave me any free time. Want to have an entry in for the AMGC. Also need to write more Gathering Journal.

sighs... speaking of which, I have to get started on those chores and obligations now.

Isn't orichalcum just some form of brass?

How many years did Atlantis last before Oberon sank the place since I always thought that they required a very high level of technology to construct all the structures mentioned in Plato's account

Well, as of the past 36 hours, the national weather service has predicted that Hurricane Isabel will track directly through the Virginia penninsula (where I live)(see link). It's starting to look like another "Floyd". It made landfall as the NC coast as a category 3, by the time it reached us it was a measly tropical storm. Didn't care about the flooded streets but we were without power for at least 2 days. In fact, loosing power is the only reason we have considered evacuating. :) I think I'm going to by a laptop tomorrow so I can at least have a computer. :) Supposedly the new Powerbooks are coming out tomorrow (Josh?).

Todd Jensen<Second, nobody had gotten around to converting iron ore into tools prior to Balinos's day. In fact, it's been speculated among historians (although I don't know how widely accepted it is) that the first iron to be forged into tools and weapons was meteoric iron (which was believed to be magical because it had fallen from the sky), and that digging up iron ore and making use of it came along later. >

So how exactly were the Atlanteans able to conquer an incredibly large piece of Europe without something as important as iron?

Plenty of Iron rich foods in my house now. Beef, and green veggies, dried fruits, spicey soy nuts, hummus, and pita bread. Pita not PETA, although I wonder how much iron is in a PETA member.

Would love for some oysters of chicken livers, cause I know how to make chicken liver pate.

Sean: Just tradition - and a bit of a competition to see who gets first spot. It was happening at S8 long before this Comment Room exploded into being.

Graymonk: Thanks for the "Rome Eternal" and "The Godslayer" Part One comments, especially given your problems getting online at present. A couple of points... firstly the title was Nicodemus', and it actually never occurred to me that it was a pun. As for Lucius... well, it's possible I went overboard with the comedy (although I never considered him buffoonish, he is a joy to write, especially since I'd been working on later, darker, episodes before I started on "Rome Eternal"). I think it worked as a balance for Molly's dark journey though, and for some of the dark episodes ahead. We're not done playing Lucius as a serious threat in his own right, but I don't think this episode was the place for it.

****WARNING! SPOILERS FOR GODSLAYER PART 1****

Well, as I already said I found this more entertaining than "Rome Eternal." As the first part of a multi parter it's all set up but it's good set up.

I'm especially pleased to see that so far there has been no sign of Harthoth in sight. Don't get me wrong, I like the guy, he's one of the only reasons I kept reading TIMEDANCER, but when he's on stage Ifset tends to take a back seat. I'm hoping to see what she's like when she isn't acting as a foil to Harthoth.

Someone who caught my attention were the Dark Rider-esque cloaked figures the good guys fought. They've piqued my interest. They don't seem to be members of the third race or halflings. I'm hoping we get a better explanation about how they fit into the GARGOYLES universe than we did with thhe Roman spirit from last week.

I'm glad to see Nimue and Merlin finally meet again. I'm interested in seeing how this plotline progresses in part 2, although I'm even more interested in seeing how Mary and Nimue will interact.

Something that worries me is how gratified I felt when Balinos when balistic and sworevengeance on the gods. Its probably not a good thing to be cheering on man who's gone mad with grief as he goes on a vengeance crusade that will result in the death of a innocent man and be the cause of 2 major wars but damnit it feels good to see someone decide to take the fairies down a peg. After TGS season 2 I've lost all patience with the Unsilees' smug racist attitudes and if Balinos wants to go on genocidal fairy killing spree for what they did to his family then in the words of Xander Harris "I say faster pussycat, kill! kill!"

veering away from my scary progenocide rant, I liked how Mary's been helping out in the shop, and of course, KEVIN!

As for the flaws in the story, I don't really recall any other than Arthur's selection of the people to watch the estate. I don't see anything wrong with keeping the people who came with him to talk to Monteagle around but he really should've called in the rest of the knights once he decided to guard the estate. The last section of the story felt a bit too much like an episode of Star Trek where Kirk Spock and McCoy all beam down together for no reason other than they're the three guys with their name in the credits.

****END SPOILERS****
