Well I took my algebra test...I won't go so far as to say that I passed it. I used to think I was good at math, but now I kinda hate it. I don't care if it makes the world go round, it still sucks!

Gside- I just finished playing Defiance and I really, really hope they are already getting started on the next one. They have a way of ending the game at just the right time. Like a good book, you don't want it to end.

Fire Storm- If Farscape is coming back I guess it means that the people who run Sci-fi actually realized that they made a mistake. As for the guy that willingly joined the circus; wasn't he the guy that tried to kill himself?

Later.

Well, I did it.
They almost made me buy GREASE PAINT.
Snapped.
Couldn't take it.
WOULDN'T take it.
Found their hideout. The Circus.
First shot was easy. Car bomb in the little car. 15 dead.
Then the sniper rifle. Didn't know what hit them.
Now they know I will never be one of them. Want me dead.
Good.
Now it will be justifiable homicide in the name of self preservation.

Gside: <And you have all three?>
Yep, but LM freaks out when I pull out the buzz box
<And now to use that information to my advantage. Bride of Evil Laugh>
DAMN YOU CLOWNS! DAMN YOU TO NEW JERSEY!
<Im surprised in you, but maybe they're just coming to claim one of their own.>
NO! NEVER! Not one of them... not one of them...
...
one of... THEM?
<But have you contemplated making a cream pie facial?>
Any relation to buck cake facials?
<Especially that swing part.>
Oh... so THAT explains all the "band practice." You all swing together. Ah...
<Almost, but they called them texties (as in textile), and they were portrayed as slaves to fashion>
"Oh look at you, textie freak, with your generic underwear and wifebeater shirt! Be a REAL man and take it all off and go free range!"
<I thought he had run away for whatever reason (training to become uber 1337?).>
Ah, who knows. All I know is that he was annoying in MM3
<Depends on if you have your enemies in a line or a big mass>
Fire more than once if they are in a mass.
<You know that Bulbasaur would be a dom. I mean it already has the whips.>
Or, depending on how you look at it, tentacles. That's why Misty hung around with Ash.
<There you go. It's only the second (teeny) rat that hurts itself.>
Ah Darwin. What would we do without you?
<But our Acme regularly stocks them through the summer>
Then you need a better supplier. Try the phonebook. Or that bum on the corner.
<Depends on which light we're talking about>
True...
<The cannon one seems a bit of a goody two shoes and would probaly focus on cola>
Yeah... fuddy duddy. Probably would make it caffeine and sugar free too.
<The sprite comic one would probably try, but would be too inept and drunk already to get very far>
VERY true. Hmm... so, I guess it's Wily then.
<And which one you choose tells a lot about you>
Yes. So screw everyone else, I'll freeload then take the credit for the finished work.
<Well, AOL just opened the first newbie floodgate, but others have followed>
It's a sad, sad world. Too bad AOL and it's kind aren't better equipped to protect the net from their users.
<But tomorrow you're going to hunt him down>
YEP! It was FUN! He go boom!

5:35 to go... then no more OVERNIGHT SHIFTS!
(Yeah... they still are making the shift rotating so I cannot go to school... but... umm... damn.)

Well, I just posted my reasons. Happy yet?

I am SOO lokking forward to going home in 8 1/2 days. I's never thought I'd say this at my age, but I want my Mommy! I miss her, my dad, my cats, even my sister. I don't know how many times I've been tempted to pet my mousepad because it has a picture of my cat on it. I never thoughts I've ever miss teh sound of my cat screaming to be fed at 4 am, but I do.

But getting to the other kitty, Cleo, she's recently been fixed, and she's been alowed outside under supervision. One day, she climbed a tree pretty high, and was too wussy to climb down. So, she jumps on the poolhouse roof nearby, and gets stuck up there. My sister had to get a ladder to carry her down...stupid cat. Even Lola's not THAT dumb. My dad (who doesn't even like cats) is paranoid that Cleo will run into the street. But we live in a very quiet area on a hill, and no one every comes up here unelss you live here. We all have pets, so everyone knows to be careful of them. When driving (plus they are smart enough to run from them anyhow).

And worst of all, THEY GOT RID OF MY CHAIR! The thing was like 20 years old, ugly, and falling apart, but I loved it! the cushin had just the right sink level for me. They replaced it with a recliner, and I hate those.

I feel better after venting. Go back to your normal discussions now..

Ed<You’re assuming they care. >

Why wouldn't they? These guys sacked Lucius Adrians for getting too close to the truth about the Unseelies and put somebody on Matt's tail to prevent him from uncovering them surely they would neutralize a halfling sorceress selling guns and disrupting events and attempting to assassinate the royal family in a country that they consider their hq and home base since to do anything else would be a sign of weakness on their part.

***SPOILERS FOR “SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME”***

Vash: Thanks for the review. I particularly liked your, er, analysis of Mary’s epiphany. :)

Question: You’re assuming they care. Duval might, but it’s still not his place to deal with Morgana. She’s not doing anything now and the fact is that if it wasn’t her supplying to terrorists, then someone else would be in time. There’s no reason for the Illuminati to be concerned about her.

Someone To Watch Over Me

So if the Illuminati know that Morgana is the person behind the Connection business then why haven't they arrested or neutralized her yet?

so, yeah. Hung out at Gabe's all weekend, along with Lain and Gunner. Got to meet an old gaming buddy of my brother's and mine, who I haven't seen in over ten years and who is now one of Gabe's bosses. Gabe's roommate Dave and I stayed up till about 5am friday night, discussing religion, politics, and paper shotguns, and he is one of the coolest people I've had the pleasure of hanging with. Then we spent Saturday watching Cowboy Bebop and working up characters, and saturday night watching Dave's fiancee Rachel filetting bad guys GURPS style.
Oh, and I had hiccups pretty much all weekend.

Hey there! Did you answer Greg's Questionary about your top 5 reasons for watching Gargoyles? I know many of you have done the same! Oh yeah! I just read the latest Pendragon story. No comments-it rocks! Also, these are my questions for today and the next week!

1- Picture this: Brooklyn and Goliath helping Sora, Dondald and Goofy in a Kingdom Hearts game. Wouldn't it be cool to actually have them in a Kingdom Hearts Game? It would be awesome, and I would LOVE to see Brooklyn use magic. I heard it was done for the japanese version of Kingdom Hearts for PS2, but I'm not so sure. Is it true? And, what do you think of the idea? It would be REALLY great-especially if Keith David and Jeff Bennett were doing the voice-acting, NOT some stupid rip-off.

2-Here I go with my Future Tense ranting all over again! How on Earth did Demona and Brooklyn come together in the episode, AND WHAT ABOUT THEM LOVING EACH OTHER?!!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?! It isn't damn fair! How did it happen? Brooklyn hates her! Sure, the whole dream was because of Puck, but if it WERE to happen, how would it happen?

Well, I guess that's it for my ranting... GTG, school project. Later!

One more day, and hopefully we'll discover what Greg Weisman's secret project is....

TGS: StWOM> (******assume any time I do this that there will be spoilers) I said earlier that not much happened in this fic, which is true, but not necessarily a criticism. It sets the stage for future betrayals in the Illuminati, updates us on the progress of the other knights, and gives us the feeling that the quest to the Himalayas may be their last. It gathers in all the loose ends from the season and reminds us what they are and what topics we should expect to see in the few remaining fics. This story is also noteworthy for its character development (Mary and Griff were excellent; Arthur less so, but I'll get to that in a moment). My only complaint would have been that this look into the characters should have been done sooner than now, when we're almost at the end. Maybe it would have given their actions more meaning in past stories.

Mary--It's good to see that Mary is human, after all, and as Arthur puts it, "a vulnerable sixteen year old girl". I like how she's shown with her defenses down, finally realizing just how messed up her world has become, and crying out for her 'mum' and 'boyfriend' (I still don't like having the cast refer to Merlin as 'Mary's b/f' (he has a name, after all), but in this case it had the purpose of showing us how Mary is still clinging to normal teenage girl concepts like 'boyfriends' despite being thrust into a supernatural quest where she frequently faces mortal peril. I wonder if Mary's stoicism/definace was actually her defense mechanism; a form of denial of the danger and craziness they were always caught in. She even admits, "I just took it for granted that we’d make it through okay". So it wasn't until things *didn't* turn out okay that she realizes just how dangerous the risks she was taking were, and she finally has an epiphany along the lines of, "Sh*t, this world is f--ked up!" Thank you, Ed, for letting us see Mary's humanity.

Griff> I like the moment where he confides in Mary that he also has a little 'brashness' in him [though it was odd to have Griff tell Mary she's been a good squire and that things will come with time, when Griff was never one himself and hasn't even been a knight all that long]. Now that Merlin is incapacitated, Griff has taken over the teasing banter tat used to take place between her and Merlin, and it's nice to see (it makes Griff come alive as a character). I like Mary's observation that he's always an optimist, and his reply of "just built that way, I guess". Overall that was a good scene.

Arthur> I didn't like him in this story, mostly because he seemed to enjoy discussing small details and tangents about his past (granted, the interrogator is a big fan and captive audience, but Arthur *is* being tortured. Why should he divulge more than what's necessary?) My favorite part of the torture probably had nothing to do with the interrogator, but rather with Arthur's inner turmoil over whether he had done the right thing in revealing the clan's location [though shouldn't Andrew have been able to confirm his suspicions using satellite images of the estate? Those should be easy enough to get his hands on. Or does Una have some spell that blocks any visuals of the estate from being taken?].

Misc comments> I like Griff's comment about werewolves and sheep. ;) Merlin's mantra was creepy--I'm really worried for him. I felt bad for the crew when they realized NZ was a false lead (that's a long way to travel, all for nothing). When Mary couldn't get the phone, I wondered why Leba didn't just leave her a voice mail. I'm glad the option of leaving Merlin on Avalon or with the Quetz was not ignored (and a good reason was supplied). Ed also gets bonus points for using an accent on blasé! Finally, the twist at the end was really well done. I may have thought Andrew was suspicious back at the beginning of the series, but it's been a while since we've seen him so I didn't realize who he was until the end (I guess it was a good move to focus the 'previously' sections on Powell and not Andrew). The title is also very appropriate, as it can be applied to multiple characters. So yeah, not much 'happens', but it's a good fic, nonetheless. ;)

Well, this is the first day of the rest of my life... or one of the last three overnight shifts that I pray I will ever work again.

And you know what?
The clowns left me alone and I was able to curl up on the floor and get 3 good hours of sleep.

And then I read that someone WILLINGLY joined the circus, but you want to know what?
Tonight... I am ok with that.

Oh, please please PLEASE let this be true...

(From Dark Horizons)
Farscape (TV): The cancelled but highly acclaimed Sci-Fi Channel series which had its plug pulled earlier this year may be making a comeback. Last week an insider sent along this rumour: "Farscape is back in production - the series is to be wrapped up in 4-6 new episodes with the usual crew, cast and producers. The props and sets are being dusted off and are being assembled in preparation for filming in Sydney. The new mini-season will complete the story arc and bring closure". An interesting story and a solid source but still it sounded almost like wishful thinking and as there still hasn't been any official announcement about it I held off. After all, you would've thought Sci-Fi would have shouted it from the rooftops that its coming back to appease the ravenous fans of the show (incl. me). Then some people I know connected with the show started mentioning it's coming back and its confirmed that the Sydney production office is open again. I placed three separate calls to them on Tuesday to confirm/deny the rumours and all three calls were not only summarily cut off at their end but the secretary hurled nasty insults (courtesy is a dying art) - I've never had problems with these guys before so best guess would be they've been advised not to speak to press at all (which would explain the lack of coverage locally). That would also explain that when I got in contact with a US publicity rep for Sci-Fi, they said they couldn't comment on it at this time but will be releasing details when they're available soon. Something IS stirring, I guess we'll have to wait to find out what exactly.

There is a con this weekend, so any info will most likely be leaked this weekend.

Todd: <"A clown is not a big hairy spider. A clown will not tie me up and throw me in the basement.">
I tried that... but it's not listening

Storyseeker: <Ouch! Getting electrocuted can't be much fun!>
Well, sometimes it can be. You just need the right voltage, current, and person administrating it.

Gside: <You fear what they are planning now that they've given up the frontal assault>
Yes! YES! THAT is what I fear most!
<When was the last time you put on makeup? Could you see your skin underneath it?>
Well, when I was younger, I experimented with grease paint. And lately... I've wanted to buy more.
<Depends on if you like big pants and cream pies.>
Comfy and yummy, in that order.
<Well, my first Sleigh Ride was last week, and the rest of the band had been parcticing it before that.>
That sucks... but I guess band members need to practice.
<That reminds me, a while back, I ran across a nudist comic strip. Very boring. Especially turning everyone who wore clothes into the bad guy.>
"Only the man wears clothes. And you are wearing clothes!
...
STOP PERSECUTING US, CLOTHIST B@$7@RD!"
<I've always thought he was Light's prototype for all the rest>
Why didn't Wily steal HIM instead of the weak 8 from the first game?
<Generally, but in the Megaman universe, blasters are too common.>
Need more nuclear weapons. Or a Cossack Buster.
<You mean it isn't?>
Well, I personally think it is.
<Yes, yes I do>
I can see it now...
"Suck it down, Bulbasaur!"
I am reminded of that Pokemon fic on Something Awful
<Yes he did. It's just that he never got thrown when he got hurt that way.>
Really? I never noticed. Was that on the hard level?
<Did you unlock Pichu (the teeny one that can wear goggles), or did you only have one rat to play with the entire time?>
Just the one rat.
<Well, if you want, I can hang the dogs in the playground. Now where to get Shickhaus this time of year?>
That works for me! And you get them the same place you get them the rest of the year: eBay
<It's not up to me to say what you can't do. You could be considered superior in this.>
Sw33t! I am a Superior Being!
<But it's Wily who makes Wily beer, so Wily should make keggerman. Light can make Acidman or Potman>
Forgot about Wily beer... But really, do you think that Light would just sit back and let Wily make the best beer in the world? Of course not! He would at least try and make his own.
<Faster turnaround time?>
Faster vs less work for me... decisions, decisions...

Bud-Clare: <Mostly just you.>
Are you listening, or just smiling and nodding your head?

DPH: <Yes, I nearly achieved being purely logical, but it was an attempt to escape emotional pain>
Well... whatever works... as long as it worked...
But I don't think it worked too well.
<Based on my experiences, I don't believe Vulcans are completely logical . . instead, they've become quite adapt at finding logical justification for any action and the lack of emotion is an emoion>
Didn't they even say that? It probably is just social engineering that removed emotion.

****** 24 review stuff! Possible SPOIER WARNING! ******

I'm finding it hard to get into this again (those I suppose part of the problem being that the past 2 eps, I havent sat down only to watch that, been doing other stuff at the same time as well), but I must say, the last part of this week's ep was very thrilling. I only started watching 24 on a regular basis about halfway through the 2nd season (I was bored out of my mind, and needed something to do before my mom and I watch Judging Amy right after, and she's been kooked on 24 since day 1), so I still have trouble following things at times.

Why do I have the feeling that there is too much going on, too soon? I mean, it's only been 3 eps, and they've already figured out about Kyle and have found (but not yet captured) him? I have this feeling that the virus is NOT going to be the big thing here, like it's just some sort of distraciton so something bigger and badder can be unleashed unnoticed. I mean, in season 2, the bomb itself was not the subjct of the whole series, the last what, 6-7 hours were dedicated to the forged audio recording and finding Kingsly (and I still laugh in that last episode where he gets peppered with bullets, reminds me of classic TV battles where the good guy always suddenly wins at the last second, with the bigger and better guns, though here it's obvious WHT the good guys have the bigger and better guns).

And why so I get the feeling what Jack will not survive the entire season (or at least be put out of commission)? And it's not from rumors and ideas my mom has told me about either...he just looks like crap here...and he almost deserves to take a fall (he's just played Mr. Hero way too many times, and he's gonna get his butt killed anyhow someday if he doesn't take a break from all the trouble he gets himself into).

And am I alone when I say the the only reason Kim works for CTU is because she's Jack's daughter? She's too..airheaded to get that job on her own. And what about Chase? He's a complete jerk...while I do think Jack is being a little overprotective of Kim, Chase is now taking everything that's not 100% in his favor and blaming it on that fact...he needs to take a chill! It's almost like he's using Kim to eventaully win Jack over so he can get special perks our something...I dunno...

I'm gonna shut up now.

*********** Spoilers END ************

We now return to our regularly scheduled discussion.

***SPOILERS***

I found Arthur's abduction to be quite intriguing. What did the Illuminati have to do to get Xanatos to lend them one of his robots? And Arthur seemed to compliant during the interrogation. After all, since he was born in a more barbaric he would be used to harsh treatment and threats on those he cared for.
I did not know wether to laugh or cry at the scene where Mary tries to answer her cell phone in Wolf form. Those scene's between Merlin and Mary were great as well, real human emotion. To bad Griff was only a side charater in this story, but sometimes you need to give characters a break.

Gunjack: Woah. I wish I could make my sleeping time that productive!

Vash: I agree that it’s very strange that this room doesn’t discuss ‘24’. Since you mentioned it, here’s my review of the episode that aired on Tuesday in the States.

***HUGE SPOILERS FOR ‘24’: “3PM-4PM”***

I thought this was a great episode, which shouldn’t surprise me from writer Howard Gordon, a name I long since learnt to look out for. Gordon's first in a season is always amazing. Last year he did the CTU explosion episode, and the year before his first had loads of the best twists of the year: Gaines blackmailing Jack into being a lackey in his assassination plot, the fake Alan York killing his daughter and persuading Teri he could find Kim, and the very first time we (and David) realise that Sherry isn’t the goody-two-shoes as she seems. So… obviously, this was going to be good.

Except for the Palmer plot. The writers apparently have a motto, "not good, never boring", which excused them for the odd cougar or psychotic nuclear bunker dude... so how could they come up with such a boring plot for Anne? One interview I read did mention that the writers left season 2 so open ended because they really didn’t know if they could work out a plot for him in season 3 and wanted him to go out with a bang in case they couldn’t. I’m glad he’s back, but now it's season 1 redux -- as an election campaign is in progress, someone close to Palmer may have a campaign-dashing secret revealed -- quick, cover it up! I did like the several references to Sherry, and Wayne Palmer is probably my favourite of the new characters -- as ruthless as season 1 Sherry but also able to argue his corner persuasively. It’s also been pointed out to me that there’s a definite “Othello” vibe about these scenes with David as Othello, Anne potentially as the Desdemona and Wayne as Iago. They made excellent use of the Shakespeare allusions in season 1 so I’d love to see that again. It’s not selling me yet though.

The rest of the plot is excellent though. Kyle Singer is a pretty good and believable character who is strongly acted. His confrontation with his parents was nice, and they gave him a decent reason to panic and run at the end. I think it's great that for the first time since season 1 the plot revolves not around some Macguffin -- the bomb, the chip, the bag o’ heroin -- but now around an actual character. Also nice to see Kyle’s girlfriend is still about. Can the disease be sexually transmitted, I wonder? (And does that mean she'll be contagious around episode 15?). Despite their weak acting (unusually for ‘24’), the Singer parents were sympathetic and entertaining.

Sticking with that plot, I really enjoyed Nicole Duncan in this episode, making a very strong debut. Apparently the actress is a ‘Babylon 5’ veteran. Her history with Jack opens up a lot of possibilities and their interactions elicited some of Kiefer's best acting on the series to date IMO. I liked the second scene of Jack trying to shoot up, and given the location it shows how desperately he wants it. I didn't think I would when it was playing because I thought they wouldn't be able to do another believable interruption, but it led nicely into Nicole working out his addiction. Good stuff.

Hector and Claudia weren't in this episode much and really didn't need to be in it at all, I felt. Ramon had a small but shocking part, killing Luis. I thought Luis was interesting, but there's no doubt that this was another awesome plot twist. And I loved that we saw the guard was really just doing it to protect his son.

Kim and Chase weren't that interesting this week. Chase's role was small, and Kim was best finding the trace on Kyle's phone (at which she did a much better job than Milo did in season 1). Chase's frustration is understandable, but their plot didn't really go anywhere this time.

The big news is, of course, Tony! I was really shocked by this since he’s missed about one episode in the entire series. In particular, it was one of the bloodiest scenes we've seen on '24', even including Ali getting tortured in season 2. Although I knew that the show has yet to make it through a season without losing at least two regular characters, I definitely didn't expect it to happen in episode 3 (which is silly, because this is when George received his death sentence). Even if he recovers, I guess he's going to be out of it for a while. Shame, because I was just thinking how cool it was to see Tony out in the field. I kind of wish they'd done more of him in the field because on the few occasions he's left CTU, it's always been enjoyable. I'd be delighted to see him pull through as long as the recovery doesn’t seem like a cop-out.

I get the sense that the season is building up. It's established a lot of the new characters now and the plot has a lot of give in it with Ramon's anticipated release. I can’t wait to see where things go from here!

***SPOILERS END***

I usually enjoy your little tangents, they're quite interesting, and when coming out of Merlin's mouth, make for a fairly amusing character trait. As I mentioned before, I particularily enjoyed the digression about Roland in "The Dragon's Treasure," wrther intentionally or not it really helped set the stage for the Merlin/Arthur arguement in "Flight From the Enchanter." By all means, keep 'em coming!

Ed - <<I think I’ve seen Combs in ‘Enterprise’ but his voice doesn’t ring any bells.>> I'm a niner so i'm fairly familiar with his voice, or at least his Weyoun voice, every character he does seems to have a slightly different one. Weyoun, btw is something like the #4 villain on Deep Space Nine. His personality is sort of a combination of Owen's loyalty and selfless devotion, Xanatos's love for adventure and excitement, and The Illuminati's amoral indifference to the pain his actions inflict. <<I tried to make Barnes quite a genial, even likeable person who just happens to make a living torturing people for information.>> that describes Andrew Robinson's character to a T.

Wow, and that scene at the end where he kills his fake dad--talk about pent up rage! What the heck am I doing posting here? *looks for a big book, grabs it, and turns to a page* Ahh, I found my reason for posting to the cr in the big book of reasons for posting: "to encourage the maximization of the continuance of the proliferation of the lack of sanity in the tgs cr", whatever that means. Can anyone devise a better answer than that?

I've been working at encouraging my cats to become better mousehunters by supplying them with increased incentative. Anybody care to guess what the "increased incentative" is? This "increased incentative" has made the cats more . . caring about when I come home and seemingly wanting more of my affection.

Ed - <Haven’t you heard? Vinnie’s the Director!> Shhh. Don't tell anyone that the Director is really . . Catbert.

Gside - <The largest number possible in a 15 bit system.> Close enough. Largest 16 bit integer.

<VulCon - Star Trek con.> Raise your hand and admit if you weren't kind of convention "VulCon" would be.

Fire Storm - <Did you succeed back then or fail miserably?> Ok, let's start reviewing the existing evidence from my posts in the cr. Which is usually the case for me in the cr: being more logical or more emotional? Yes, I nearly achieved being purely logical, but it was an attempt to escape emotional pain. Do I regret going that logical? You bet. Based on my experiences, I don't believe Vulcans are completely logical . . instead, they've become quite adapt at finding logical justification for any action and the lack of emotion is an emoion. I promise you that the blackjack program that was running on my calculator was . .outstanding work. I've gotten comments about having too much time on my hands if I was able to put that whole program together.

Dez - Thanks.

Now, if I can just prove chaos is order, I could prove that my house is clean because it is orderly.

Greymonk - Haven't read the stories in question, but I thought I'd toss in a quick riposte...

<<Xanatos should not be openly trying to sell his Steel Clan robots. Not only are they as good as painting "Hey! I have some kind of connection to the Gargoyles" in 20 foot tall neon letters on the front of the Eeryie building...>> Um... Xanatos never really did a very good job of hiding his connections to the Clan; witness his showing up at St. Damien's at the end of "Hunter's Moon". Compared to THAT little stunt, designing Gargoyle-shaped robots is nothing. He can just claim that he was fascinated by the rumors and stories, and drew on them for inspiration? The production Steel Clan look very little like goliath...
<<...there is still the matter of Xanatos using them to commit crimes in "The Edge.">> That, one assumes, was handled by a little of Mr. Jeffers' "creative articulation".

Developing a series of autonomous mobile armored units requires some serious investment, and Xanatos would have to be crazy not to at least try to get a return on it. Western militaries would be DYING for an efficient, heavily-armed, highly mobile weapons system like the Steel Clan or the Valkyries. I figure Xanatos cooked up a story to cover his illegal uses of the early SC models, destroyed the contrary evidence, and then raked in as many military contracts as he could.

Does any of that make sense?

Hey-ho. Glad everyone’s having a blast with “Someone To Watch Over Me”. It’s my last outing this season outlining/writing, although I’m still helping Todd pull out all stops on the finale.

***“WOLVES” SPOILERS***

Vash: Yeah… I might have guessed you’d like us shooting her. ;) Your points about the cause and effect in the story fascinate me. Although for many of the reasons Graymonk mentioned, I didn’t think this was nearly as tight as “No Mercy”. That’s why I was surprised to see you holding it up as an example of comparative consistency.

Graymonk: It’s a good point about Ictinke. The only reason I can think is that not all of the troops could transport so easily and – frankly – they were arrogant and wanted to let off steam before the fight.

***“SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME” SPOILERS***

Graymonk, Spacebabie, Firestorm & Storyseeker: Thanks for your comments.

(And, yep, Singleton was indeed going behind Duval’s back.)

Vash: “Not much happened”?! *strangles Vash* ;) Well, admittedly I wanted this to be almost entirely given over to the torture scene and be mostly character development. I think the addition of “Flight” and “No Mercy” to the season probably made this episode’s role less important (although some of the dialogue I cut from the White Knight’s speech – especially regarding Morgana – I rewrote and incorporated into the discussion with Barnes). Of course, my biggest concern was that you at least would find the twist transparent: you called it back in “Choices” just because he supported Duval. I knew getting you interested in “24” was a mistake… ;)

Graymonk: Glad you liked Singleton and Barnes. I think I’ve seen Combs in ‘Enterprise’ but his voice doesn’t ring any bells. Singleton was pretty well defined in “Waystation” so I just wrote someone who was kind of stiff without quite the monotone of Owen. I tried to make Barnes quite a genial, even likeable person who just happens to make a living torturing people for information.

My rationale for using the robots that since Xanatos was in the Illuminati, Singleton would probably have been able to get hold of the robots he needed that way. It was also a way of trying to frame Xanatos, and making sure that any news was definitely not shared with the Manhattan clan, thereby delaying it getting back to the rest of the society for some time.

Glad you mentioned the Merlin and Mary scenes. Those were a joy to write – especially the scene where Leba tries to contact the group but nobody can pick up the phone. Some of Mary’s development here was slightly influenced by the way Vash reacted to her earlier in the season, where she felt that she was just coming off as overly brash and quite unsympathetic. Well, the reason she’s a wolf in the first place was because she smashed the Angurboda figurine when Merlin told her not to, but I still felt like the character felt very different this season from her introduction so it was fun to tie her back to her roots a little and show how she’s grown (and, perhaps more interestingly, how she hasn’t).

***‘BAD GUYS’ COMMENTS***

Graymonk: Haven’t you heard? Vinnie’s the Director! (Whoops, was I not supposed to reveal that...? ;))

(Just kidding Todd :)) >

I'd imagine that Falstaff would be more like Dingo's mentor and possibly the one that trained and turned him into a mercenary. In a nutshell he would certainly be a Swordsman like character.

***WARNING! SPOILERS FOR "SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME!"***

THE GOOOD: -The fake out. Between the Powell-heavy "previously on..." Duval's talk of Powell possibly starting a coup, and what we know of the Illuminati political situation I was expecting a rather anitclimatic revealation that ol' Slick Willie Powell was responsible for Arthur's kidnapping. Singleton's involvement hit me like a slap to the face. Up til now he's done so little of note I had to re-read the meeting in "Choices" to figure out where I'd seen him before. He was certainly memorable in this story. He's deduced where the London clan lives (I think Montrose is the only other PENDRAGON foe with that information), effectively covered his tracks, and unlike virtually every other Illuminatus we've seen until now, he understands that conventional weapons won't work against paranormal threats. I'm wracking my brain trying to figure out why he's doing this. Is he working for Powell? Is he secretly running the society now and keeping Powell and Duval in the dark? Is he orchestrating a civil war within the society so his rivals will wipe each other out and he can ascend to the throne? I don't know and I love it. The Illuminati are rapidly fulfilling their potential as interesting antagonists.

-Simon Barnes. Speaking of interesting antagonists, this guy was a real breath of fresh air. Usually these evil interrogator characters (ex: Sebastion and the Earth Alliance inquisitor from "Babylon 5," Gul Madred from "ST:TNG") start off as controlled professionals and then slowly become irrational psychopaths. Barnes managed to remain controled throughout, even though he Arthur thought he lost his cool a little at one point. He really came off as a dispassionate professional, which is a nice change of pace from most interrogators.

-The continued growth of the global knight network. Rory recruiting a squire and Dulci shoring the alliance with Quinn are welcome developments. This story implied that this organisation Arhtur is building will become what the Illuminati were intended to be; A group of people clandestinely working to protect the world. All Arthur needs now is a steady flow of cash, an HQ, a secure means to communicate and more opperatives (say Fara Maku & Tea for Africa, or Vinnie for Japan?) and he'll be in bussiness.

-Merlin's near comatose state. PENDRAGON has been very good about showing consequences this season and this story is no exception. If Merlin's going to go bug%#*! on the villagers in "Wolves" he'd better pay a price for it. The reminder of why they have to take Merlin with them everywhere was much appreciated as well.

-Mary's grief. A little character examination is always welcome. I enjoyed getting Mary's POV of seasons 3 & 4. It hadn't occured to me until know that Mary has had a pattern of brash behavior this season. Her guilt and frustration was very reasonable and felt quite honest. With only two months or less left til Merlin dies, I'd expect the cast's nerves to be pretty shaky.

-The writing. I'm not sure how he did it, but Ed managed to give both Singleton and Barnes very distinct voices. When they were talking there was never any question about who was speaking. Odly enough, I kept "hearing" Andrew "Garack" Robinson performing Barnes's lines and Jeffery "Weyoun/Brunt/Shran" Combs doing Singleton's. The Gargoyles/Star Trek actor connection continues even in fanfic!

THE BAD: -The Steel Clan. Don't get wrong, I loved seeing them and it was certainly clever of Singleton to use them. I simply didn't care for how he apparently got his hands on them. This is the same problem I had with the otherwise wonderful "Reunions" from Season 2. Xanatos should not be openly trying to sell his Steel Clan robots. Not only are they as good as painting "Hey! I have some kind of connection to the Gargoyles" in 20 foot tall neon letters on the front of the Eeryie building, there is still the matter of Xanatos using them to commit crimes in "The Edge." If someone makes the connection between Mr. X and the very public robogarg crimes, he's going to be in big trouble. I have no problem with him clandestinely selling them to other people under the table, but Steel CLan sales shouldn't be a matter of public record.

Bottom Line: A good story, sold more on atmosphere, character moments and the twist ending than on plot. 9 Steel Caln robots out of 10

*****SPOILERS FOR "SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME" END*****

Ed - <<And as Question notes, the bad guy is Ictinke. The Unseelies were heading to war and passed through the village. There wasn’t any greater purpose behind it. It was a kind of commentary on the less obvious effects of war.>> Why did Ictike need to pass through the town? In the past the third race have just teleported directly to wherever they wanted to go.

Lain - <<what sorts of questions might you have about the series?>>
OK, but remeber you asked for this ;)
1)Are you basing this series on the new information that has come out in "Ask Greg" over the years since TGS began or are you limiting yourself just to what you knew about the master plan when the first TGS cycles began?
2)Will Vinnie or Talon appear?
3)Will you have crossovers with PENDRAGON and GARGOYLES?
4)Will you be sticking to the original roster of Hunter, Dingo, Fang, Matrix and Yama or will you be adding a new member ala the Avalon Mists' BAD GUYS?
5)Will Sora appear ("In the Darkest Hour part 2 implied she was dead)?
6)What sort of genre would you say this series is, super-heros, gritty noir or mare fantasy-ish?
7)Has Todd been begging you to let him write the Falstaff introduction story? I can see it now; Dingo: "Well I suppose it is appropriate that I would run into a man named Falstaff, after all my really name is Hanry Monmouth and that happened to be the nickname of Henry V, who in Sahkespeare's play "Henry IV" spent a great deal of time with a rogue named Falstaff..." (Just kidding Todd :))

I for one am looking forward to a less magic-centric TGS series. Can't wait to read it!

Question >> You're probably correct in your assumption that Disney wouldn't let anyone else animate Gargoyles. Disney animation is a brand-consciousness thing. No one else is allowed to publish cartoons of Mickey Mouse or Darkwing Duck either.

But Disney - is - big into licensed products. Look at Square / Enix with the "Kingdom Hearts" PS2 Game or TokyoPop with the "Kim Possible" Graphic Novels. It isn't like "Gargoyles" hasn't been licensed into a creative work like a video game or comic-book before.

Demand your Gargoyles, and maybe someday someone will supply it. Keep the faith. :)

Ninja Turtle probably also earned more money than Gargoyles ratings and products wise while also being a creator owned property and Greg himself said that Disney would probably never allow another company to make a Gargoyles or garg related show by the chance that it would actually make money.

Caboose: Rumors are good. I use them to find out information and get things done. And yours is working, at least for me!

Hey folks.

Um...well...this is completely off subject, but I'm sure most everyone here will have heard about Mr. Weisman's request at Station 8 that everybody post their top five reasons for falling in love with "Gargoyles". (And in case you didn't hear about this, the place to go is www.s8.org/gargoyles/comment.php)

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone might have any clue as to why he's doing this.

What I'm about to say is PURE SPECULATION. I have ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE THAT THIS IS TRUE. I'm GUESSING about Mr. Weisman's motives. Okay, now that we're clear that I don't have the tiniest scrap of evidence to support this idea of mine, here it is: Might he be wanting to approach execs at some company about bringing the show back somehow? (It worked for the "Ninja Turtles", after all.)

God help me if I'm wrong but this starts some major internet rumor that the show is coming back...

Ouch! Getting electrocuted can't be much fun! I think it's fairly obvious that Duval doesn't know anything about it otherwise he would have asked Andrew for a report of what was happening with Arthur. I pity poor Mary, the strain is obviously getting to her finally.

LYNATI - Well, I had attended several of these in the past, befure:

VIDCon - a small con held for gamers, zines and fanfic enthusiasts here in West Central Florida.

VulCon - Star Trek con.

MetroCon - The first large-scale Anime convention for Florida held in Tampa (going into second year next summer!)

And in the fall I always try to make NecronomiCon - a big sf/fantasy/horror/TV/Film/Writing convention held here in Tampa. It's going into it's 23rd year (a long standing institution now...)

Hope that helps. Maintain and Check Six!

*Panics for Lain*

Now if only somebody would panic for me so I can get stuff done and get out of this slump I'm in.

I've noticed a pattern rather recently . . . It seems like 1/4 - 1/2 of my posts are completely TGS related.

Well, I got news for you guys . . that's probably not going to change anytime soon.

I've been busy with TGS and college life. I'm in a class where things are getting to the point where I can have fun. In another class, the tests are all but impossible. My class in MacroEconomics is quite usefull.

I've started work on translating one of my old programs from one calculator language to another. That's going to be fun. Especially trying to understand my thought processes during a period of time in which I was . . attempting to be perfectly logical.

In the class with near impossible tests, the teacher is a kindred spirit. That has driven me crazy for a while. Looking at the teacher is like looking at who I could become and I'm not sure I like what I'm seeing. Has anyone else run into somebody who is a kindred spirit of himself/herself?

Todd - Just for kicks, I watched a movie called "Excaliber", copyright 1981. It was supposedly based on Le Morte d'Arthur, but umm I couldn't quite enjoy the movie that well because of the liberties taken with the story.

Here's a random comment:
2^15-1=32767

What does that have to do with anything? It's connected to having fun in one class.

Lynati>> In the last year, I've been to:
ConDFW -- (Richardson, TX)SF/Fantasy con focused on writers, artists and publishing industry
A-kon -- (Dallas)Anime/SF/Fantasy
AnimeFEST -- (Dallas) A-kon's little sister; smaller Anime con held over Labor Day
and I will be going to Wizard World (Arlington) in 2 weeks. It's a traveling comics industry con that's been in Chicago and NY.
There's also ItzaCon (DFW) that the Akon staffers put on the weekend after Thanksgiving but it's small and a mix of anime/SF/whatever.
I mostly go to these conventions to show my portfolio to game companies and publishers, as well as to sell my stuff in the art show.

What conventions (other than the gathering) to people typically attend in the summer? What besides Comicon and A-kon are the larger, yearly cons of this variety that people know of, even if they don't attend?

Story of my life.

Lain: <if this were to be the case, what sorts of questions might you have about the series?>
Well, other then the when as in "When can we read it" and "When in the TGS continuity does it start", and other than wondering exactly who are the bad guys and what they were doing since we last saw them and now...
I think all my other questions, and probably most of these ones will be answered in the series itself.

Gside, Question: <Who is this Zero fella? >
Ask as smart-ass question, get a serious answer.

Gside: <but he's kind of like a combined Protoman and Bass/Forte>
Ah, all I know about him is what I read in the comics. Don't know if he is an upgraded Protoman or not, and frankly, I don't care. Didn't use his character at all in the games anyway.
<And the sprite comic authors tend to make him gay.>
And I like it that way. Megaman is stupid as hell, X and Zero are lovers... I like it!
<Not your turf, your voices' turf. Or was that a voice talking?>
???
Brain hurts now... STOP YOUR ARGUING! DON'T MAKE ME COME IN THERE!
<Haven't a clue. My bet is the Japanese version is actually an entirely new continuity.>
Possibly. But Ash is different. Upgraded somehow. (his hat is a different color!)
<That, or they're luring the translators into a false sense of security that they'll shatter when they reveal their gory autoerotic murders at the hands of a hermaphroditic Jesse/Musashi.>
Gotta love Team Rocket H fanfiction!
<If only you could do that in a team battle. But who'd take the damage if you were using Pichu?>
The people you hit!
<You've got to plan an occaisonal boom to get away from the monotony of the randomness>
Now, I can't make it TOO big... ah, hell with that! Where's that rail shipment sized propane tank?
<Tuesday? But that'd just be wrong. And besides, tuesday is band>
Hmm... how about Thursday? No... ER. Can't... Well, I guess that Wednesdays will do... although, it will conflict with the coating myself with honey, rolling in the leaves, and running through the playgrounds.
<Of course, because you're writing first.>
Oh details, details.
Hey, when all is said and done, could LM get a page in the secure section that she would use to update the site?
Come to think of it... I don't know if we even have (official) access to the secure site... let me ask LM.

Question: <X's opposite number>
