DPH, kjay, Taleweaver: Thanks for the Static Shock info!

Krista: < Um...no offence at all! or anything but...aren't most of these cartoons made for kids?>
Yeah, but technically, so was Gargoyles. But that's not the problem. The problem is when they take a widely popular license (in this case, the DC comic universe) and totally throw away everything that makes the license what it is, such as logic and the artwork, which keeps the older fans happy.
Imagine this: After the quality of the art, plot, etc of Gargoyles, they bring back the series with a FEW changes: All the characters are teens except Hudson, who is not in the new series, and they ALL wake up in Manhattan (including Angela) after being in stone for 100 years... by a teenage Xanatos. The Gargoyles turn into crime fighters wearing lame-ass clothes (READ: Near neon Spandex) and the plot of each episode is about as deep as Power Rangers. And it looks like it was drawn in Paintbrush.
That's about what many hard-core DC fans think of the new series.
<Did you guys know that in Harry Potter there is a witch band called the Weird Sisters? AND there's three of them!>
They were mentioned in "Chamber of Secrets" and played at the ball in "Goblet of Fire"

Gside: <Well, she's not quite the flaming wiccan. Flame lighting, yes>
True... is T-Bob flaming enough for you?
<That'll be interesting to send through the internet. Unless they've perfected the Tron technology>
I wish! She will have to mail the samples then. If there IS TRON tech, can it be used to copy stuff too?
<You haven't been reading many doujinshi, then. The amount of CCS material put out is disturbing>
Nope. Child porn REALLY bothers me when the kids are under 12, Japanese animated or doujinshi stuff is ok if they are over 12, and any photo or video based works need to be over 17 for me.
I don't have many standards, but those I DO have, I follow.
<What'd I tell you? Only if you give me my cut of the profits.>
*sigh* fine. I'll PayPal you the $1.50
<Says who? that was the fake recipe for generic italian sausages.>
Sneaky! But if I tell them that it is pepperoni, take their money and run, then it's all good!
<First let me restock my pornarangs>
Remember to put fresh batteries in "tools"
<And they didn't soak the closet first? I think you're going to have to go back for more therapy.>
TOO MUCH WATER!
<Same here. Did you know there are sing alongs on the Grail DVD?>
Yep. I wish I could find my disk 1...
<No one wants a repeat of the hamster dance incident.>
VERY true. But you know it's lurking out there...
Did you know someone took that song and did a techno dance remix of it?

Revel: <This better be a big vehicle because lots of us will be jumping on that wagon>
This is only a 2 seater. We are but crime fighters, fighting those that would stop normal citizens from pleasuring themselves.

*Warpmind peeks in, somewhat suffering from insomnia*

silvadel: You quite smoothly missed my point. What I deem as a bit tragic is not that I attended a birthday party. It's that I attend my *first* BYOB party at the age of 24... (Especially since legal buying age in Norway is 18.)

Warpmind... I dont think the birthday party you described was tragic -- it is never bad to have people who are friends enough that you go to their birthday parties...

Krista -- people are around -- it is just that the weather is so bleak that it has everyone down. As for the sisters -- yes I did know -- Although it was only recently that I read my fathers copies of 3,4 and 5 in the harry potter series -- up till now I figured it would just spoil the movies.

Green Baron: It says nothing that you're born after the music you like. If it did, what would that say of those with an affection for Beethoven, Mozart, Berlioz... you know, classical music? ;)

Lain/Gunjy: Nice pics, and congrats! Does Gunjy hunch a lot in the photos?

Aaaand with that I'll just let this post fade into silence. Except I'm now hooked on Sinfest, and have gotten as far as up to June. Of 2000...

Static Shock / Tiny Titans (I refuse to call them Teens) -

Well, the Titans as I understand it are a completely different tv universe than the rest of the DC comics cartoon series, or at least I feverently hope so. It's cute and all, but exists in a void of reason or logic. The intro tune is peppy and tends to stick in the mind. The character designs... Well I pretty much loathe the character designs. The characterization is shallow stereo type. That aside, it's brightly colored nonsense and whiz bang pow formula probably appeal to the younger set who don't need their cartoons to actually make sense.

On the flip side, the new comic book series revamping the Teen Titans with Wondergirl, Robin, Kid Flash, Superboy, and including the old guard of Cyborg, Changeling, and Starfire by Geoff Johns is really good, and supported with excellent artwork. Issue one went into 5 sold out reprints, and it's only up to issue 7 on the stand right now. The trade back edition of the first issues will be out month after next.

Static Shock the future and Batman Beyond. Well, no indication that the Justice League members would be the same ones as in "present" day. Wonder Woman is a title that can and probably will pass on if Diana turns out subject to aging. Since the rest of the Amazons appear immortal, Diana might be much the same in the future as she is now. Green Lantern... well there are/were lots of Lanterns, and a new one was already established in the Batman Beyond episode that had the future version of the Justice League. I forget who else was mentioned, but likewise a hero name doesn't mean it's the same person under the mask in past and future, as with Terry not Bruce is the future Batman.

cheap time travel... well it depends, I guess. It would depend on what method/science/theory/idea makes the time travel work. It's a standard comic book theme where the hero gets thrown backwards or forwards in time. In the case of where/how to jail a time traveling villian, even if the villian is the originator of the time travel science/magic, it shouldn't matter as long as he/she doesn't have access to the technology/device they used to travel with. Think "Back To the Future" - if the professor was thrown in jail, his brilliance at time travel isn't going to make the bars of his cell disappear.

Static at 15/16 and at age 55/56 -- I think it's suffient time to go through a lot of change. It was a trifle Harry Sue for him to be the Big Burrito of the future, but otherwise I didn't have too great a problem with it. I thought Terry was a bit short changed in the episode, but it was good to see the BB universe again even for a brief while. Loved the fight scene with the Jokers *^_^*

So, I take it now Static realizes Bruce Wayne is Batman? That point was rather unclear.

sleepy now...

What my peeps,

*** STATIC SHOCK SPOILERS ***
I 've been watchign the weekday versions featuring the crossovers running up to this one. Overall it was OK. If you have a yen for Batman Beyond it meets your jones. I'm a little puzzled by the choice of villains. Of the villains Terry has gone toe-to-toe with Kobra has never made it to heavyweight class. I suppose it was necessary because so much time is eaten up with the meet-and-greet.

I've got to say between Will Friedle's portrayal of Terry and Ron Stoppable on Kimp Possible and Phil Lamarr's work as static and the Green Lantern we're seeing a better cut of voice actors than I've seen in my many years of cartoon watching. It would have been fun if Alexis Denisof could reprise his role as Kobra ruler.

I agree with DPH, time travel shouldn't be easy. It takes the fun out of the subgenre. I think Batman didn't want to know because he wouldn't want to second guess his actions from here on out. Batman's character has always been decisive, imagine if he did learn about Robin? He'd be looking over his shoulder forever. Just my thought.

Overall, I can't imagine Static become this great superhero. He lacks a good mentor like Terry has with Bruce or like the marvel superhero kids. Someone to help guide him on the right path. It seems to me this is still a hobby/sport to Static and Gear. Nothing that they'd make tought sacrifices for. Agree or Disagree?

*******STATIC SHOCK SPOILER*****
Static shock>I woke up just in time to see a present static
fight off the Cobra terrorist group. When I saw batman from
"Batman beyond" and the older future static I instantly knew this was a "back to the future" episode. When static
returned to the present and started telling everybody what
happened, batman said "I don't want to know". I wonder how
batman who react if he knew about the robin joker incident
(Batman beyond, the return of the joker).
*******END STATIC SHOCK SPOILER*****
Teen Titans>Compared to all of the other batman series this
is the worst show ever. The WB would of been better off making a Catwoman spin off than this piece of garbage. Now
days these animated shows are becoming too "cartoony". I
miss the cartoons of the old days.

MOONCAT - Here's hoping you get back into full health soonest, Kitten <big-teddybear hugs!>

DPH - <JL in BATMAN BEYOND> In all truth, the only evidence of the JL in BB was an ep where Terry mets a future version of them - consisting of members, Warhawk, Aquagirl, a new Green Lantern (a kid), and some warrior woman (I suspect is from Orion's neck of the DC Univers), along with Superman. As far as I know, only Supes looked pretty good because his physiology and absorbsion of the sun's energy keep him from aging like normal people.

Unless there were other eps of BB that had the original JL, I haven't seen them, yet.

**Spoilers for Static Shock/Lecture on Time Travel**

1st, Static, through an accident, traveled 40 years into the future to catch up with "Batman Beyond". He has to rescue his future self, who has achieved legendary status by this time.

2nd, it was a Time Machine that brought Static to the future.

Mean part: What a tangled web this universe is getting. From Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, this makes things interesting. I sincerely hope Bruce Wayne *destroys* said time machine before we get to the point of the Joker being killed. (Interestingly enough, I wonder how the writers of "Tiny Titans" have factored the movie "Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker" into their universe.)

I really, really detest it when time travel becomes cheap and this story makes it incredibly cheap. Where do you put the criminal mastermind who creates a time machine? Is there any safe place to put such a person? Answer: Nowhere is safe; the only thing to do is keep the guy drugged and seriously limit the number of people who know where he is.

Anybody remember the "Slingshot Effect" from ST:OS? I always felt if time travel was that easy, it should be used as an early warning device. Intelligence reports from the future would be sent back in time covering the events of the day so you can avoid 'sneak attacks' and treachery. Heck, it would be all-but-impossible for the enemy to inflitriate your side without you knowing about if you just sent messages back from the future.

I don't mind Time-Travel stories as long as time travel isn't cheap OR history is immutable.

**end lecture**

Apparently my nose hairs have started growing longer.

Lain> <<i have been away on holiday>>: Holiday, honeymoon, what's the difference. Besides the mead, of course.

Fire Storm> <<or we can talk about Something Positive>>: How about those crazy flaming wiccans.

Graymonk> <<So would my PENDRAGON reviews suffice or should I be posting an essay>>: It'd probably be better to show a bit of narrative, as that's what they're looking for more.

Bud Clare> <<Tell me something I don't know>>: Does the nose hair thing count?

Krista> <<What's a Flame War?>>: Newbie. To quote the Jargon File: "flame war: n. [common] (var. `flamewar') An acrimonious dispute, especially when conducted on a public electronic forum such as Usenet." Man, the entries are usually more interesting than that. I might have also done the larger entry for flame, but most of it is taken up by the potentially Chaucerian etymology.
<<Hey! I could be a writter>>: It wasn't anything about you specifically. Just a reminder that they want to put out quality stories.
<<vale dictorian>>: One word.
<<Is that enough?>>: Nope, we need samples.

Fire Storm> <<child porn involving kids in the 6-12 MONTH range>>: There are some sick people in this world.
<<It's green. Super green>>: How'd you know that? You've reinstalled the spy cameras in my rooms and are making money off a paysite dedicated to me again, aren't you?
<<By watching the neighborhood dogs do it>>: Are you sure that (or any other (accidental) voyeuristic activity) doesn't count as porn?
<<Good point. Screw the benefit of all man. Benefit ME!>>: I had the recipe first. You'll just have to wait your turn.
<<There can be "clean" images at the MGC and "dirty" ones at AMGC>>: I don't think they've yet doubled up on topics.
<<I needed much therapy after that>>: Shame you didn't get it.
<<I like Gregorian Monk chants but I am not religious>>: Pie Jesu domine/Dona eis requiem.

Krista> <<Honestly, can't we get a topic or *something*?>>: If you want a topic, you'll have to make your own. That, or fall back on complete and utter nonsense.

HAD to comment to this one!

Krista: <What's a Flame War?>
Ok, if you've been on Internet forums for any length of time, you have seen a disagreement or two between some people. This is an argument.
Most of the time, people think and an argument just peters out or goes to e-mail, and this is a good thing.
Now, a flame war is an argument on crack. People yelling back and forth, bitching, moaning, and people not listening to logic, reason, or anyone else. "I am right, you are wrong" sort of thing. There is no reasoning. There is no stopping it. The only thing in this CR that has had an effect on a flame war is an Admin coming in and basically saying "SHUT THE F#$% UP! Next person to even MENTION this is gonna get kicked out of this room FOREVER!"
That USUALLY stops things, but not always. When it doesn't stop, one of the parties finally comes to their senses and says "Screw you guys, I'm going home" and never come back. Sevarius Jr, Doug/Lisa, Pistoff, and a variety of others.

If you want to see 2 flame wars, here they are:
http://tgs.gargoyles-fans.org/cr/archive/2000/04-22-2000.html
http://tgs.gargoyles-fans.org/cr/archive/2001/03-26-2001.html

Keep in mind, we have had quite a few of them in the 6 year history of this CR, so you can always search the site for more.

Needless to say, flame wars are generally offensive, most people ignore them, and in the end, nothing good comes out of it.

GRAYMONK - Good points about Mary and Robyn, but what I was thinking of was more their tone and atmosphere. Mary's part of a set of idealistic latter-day Arthurian knights with a focus on morality and honor. Robyn's due to become the leader of a team of relatively amoral ex-villains. (And I certainly can't imagine Mary blowing up a police station or going into battle in a uniform as revealing as Robyn's.)

It's green. Super green!
<With the way our society is structured now, it's hart to think of it coming later>
Too true... Learning about sex should be done the way it always has been done! By watching the neighborhood dogs do it! Or walking in on your parents...
Or, if the stories be true, by your older sister...
Or a friends older sister... The list goes on and on.
<After I have enough of a bankroll to retire early.>
Good point. Screw the benefit of all man. Benefit ME!
<Actually, you would because they'd be denied entrance to the contest, and I'm not sure if they'd think fast enough to take them in at AMGC>
There can be "clean" images at the MGC and "dirty" ones at AMGC!
<It's too traumatic to go into detail?>
Very much so. I... I can barely think about it without breaking down. I needed much therapy after that.
<I can't think of any other explanation.>
Yeah. I mean, there is a song that says that "everybody wants to rule the world," and dang it, songs don't lie!
<Ain't they just so cuuuute>

I am already writing an adventure for them! A few, actually. I'm on my 48th page. Oh yeah, and I've always made top grades in the writing TAAS and TAKS tests! Graymonk - <A very nice addition to the site, it should be quite useful once it's up and running. Do I assume correctly
that the Unsilee guide was taken from some previously existing writers' guide for season 2.> Read the header on the page. Most of the files up there came from old files. It'll take a while before I finish processing most of the old documentation.

Cairo - <I love the resources page- I don't want to think of how much time that took to put up.> I've been impressed with the time it took to get the original information put together, which is what I'm processing right now.

Honestly, most of the information wasn't compiled by me, but by JEB. The things that are mostly mine are the Guides to TGS Hot Spots and TGS Guide to Gargoyle Clans. The timeline is definitely coming in the next update of the Resources Page. Lots of stuff is coming in the next update, besides the timeline.

Re:joining TGS <<<<What sort of information should you provide in an application? I remember the DARK AGES membership drive asked for samples of an applicant's writing>> yeah, attached samples, or links to writing would be good. the writing does not necessarily need to be gargoyles-related, however if it is not, you would need to somehow demonstrate your understanding of the tgs universe by, say, posting in the CR about the stories or something like that.>> So would my PENDRAGON reviews suffice or should I be posting an essay about the characters when I apply?

Todd -<<Thanks for your review of "Carbonek Part Three" and your overall review of "Pendragon". I'm a bit sorry that it's over now myself, but at least we ended it on a bang.>> I think bang's a bit of an understatement :)

<<Incidentally, now that the series is over, I can reveal this: a lot of you have probably guessed it by now, but Balinos the Mad is really the TGS version of Sir Balin from the Arthurian cycle, the knight who struck the Dolorous Blow and maimed the Fisher King. We deliberately disguised him in an Atlantean setting, partly to hide the fact that he was our version of Sir Balin and thus keep our readers from figuring out what had *really* happened to Avallach, partly because Avallach's "death" was taking place long before Arthur's time period anyway. (Though the bit in "The Godslayer Part Two" where we mentioned that he wound up killing and being killed by his own brother probably gave that away.)>> I think you really overestimate us Mr. Jensen ;) It took me a search through Pantheon.org to understand the connection.

Ed - <<Season Four, of course, was just a huge amount of fun from my point of view, working with Todd, Nicodemus and Mandi.>> It showed too.

TGS resources page - A very nice addition to the site, it should be quite useful once it's up and running. Do I assume correctly that the Unsilee guide was taken from some previously existing writers' guide for season 2. Some ineresting tidbits, such as Loki's hair originally being red (which admittedly would have helped the anti-Brooklyn aspect come off more clearly, the white hair had me thinking of him as an anti-Puck).

GB - <<I have also learned I am a Barry Manilowe fan, but is that good, weird, or scary :)>> hey, if he's good enough for a champion of good like Angel he can be good enough for a champion of conservatism like you.

I've periodically had it in my head that it would've been especially interesting if Goliath, Iago and Othello had been their generation's evquivalent of the trio and Iago had fallen into corruption because of his crush on Desdemona, similar to the Brooklyn/Angela/Broadway triangle, but unlike Brooklyn ahd been unable to get over it.

Ray - <<why so many people know about not dating until 16 I have no clue. Must be like the polygamy thing, it's one of those things people hear and it's so strange they hold on to that fact. >> Me, I get more preoccupied by the concept that when you die you become God to another Earth (Do I have that right? Hi everybody. Sorry I've been MIA. Because of the aforementioned garbage strike at my school the final week of first term was pushed back to the week after Christmas vacation, which means that I've spent the last three weeksfinnishing projects, studying for tests and getting used to new courses. Things are truning out fairly well though, I got 100% on my Paradise Lost designs and for my overall mark in writing. I also got a decent TV and a DVD player for Christmas, which goes perfectly with my new Firefly DVDs. all told, It's a good time to be me.

Anyway, on with the replies and commenting and such.

Green Baron - <<Also, Karen hates the Great Big Sea>> A Newf hates Great Big Sea? Is that possible? Is this some sort of Islander and Anne of Green Gables thing?

Todd - <<Although I find myself wondering what would happen should Mary Sefton and Robyn Canmore meet. Other than their both being strong female characters, they don't have much in common>> Well, just off the top of my head, they've both broken with their families, Robyn in giving up the hunt following "Hunter's Moon" and Mary is becoming anything but the normal obedient daughter of Nigel Sefton. They both serve an opponent of the Illuminati. Mary was once the reluctant member of Arthur's band and Robyn was a reluctant hunter. They've both clashed with revenge crazed immortals.

How is everyone? I've been a little busy with classes starting again. I got three mid-terms, two research papers, an oral presentation and a partidge in a pare tree. So what have I missed?

Dezi- Demona likes soaps? I can just imagine what she'd say if they killed her favorite character. Human swine! Sorry to hear about your rat. I remember the last one I had. If I was wearing a sweater he'd crawl into one of the sleeves and just hang there.

Green Baron- I hated doing PT during the Korean winter. Some high ranking idiot decided that we couldn't use the gyms during pt hours (I guess he didn't like having to stand in line to use the equipment). Ever trying doing pt in the barracks hallways? Not too fun. Good luck on the PT test and if you're going to get some suits made I recommend Washingtons. It's right outside the main gate at Camp Casey. You go in there once and the guy remembers everything about you.

The Last Unicorn- I remember that, watching as a little kid I didn't really understand the whole story but I did feel very sad at the end.

I think back then they only had one name, but when a woman married she took his name as part of her title. Kinda like saying, Charles Carlson's wive is called Mrs. Charles Carlson, only there two names are used, the concept is the same. I think that it was only a little latter that last names were being used. In the hunter's moon episodes we meet the Canmores, who are descendants of Canmore, the son of Duncan. So maybe it was around that time that people took the name of their father as their last name or something like that.

Hello all,

I thought the room would have refreshed. Thought I'd pose another TGS question. This one centers on Dark Ages. I was watching Smallville last week. (I still find it trippy that Lex Luthor is the voice of the flash, my favorite Justice Leaguer) I'm impressed by the way the show works inspite of knowing how Clark, Lex and even Lana turn out. Part of it is because the relationships seem so unexpected. My question is this:

What unlikely elements would stir your interest in Dark Ages? Maybe Goliath and Demona were red hot lovers making the future possibilty of Elisa remote. Maybe Iago was a real mack-daddy and Coldstone was a shy violet. What would be your equivalent of the Clark/Lex friendship for Dark Ages?

Belated announcement, but ... a few days ago, I posted the latest installment in my fanfic saga. This story, "Not Forgotten," is three shorter tales following some characters who'd been left behind or fallen through the cracks.

Anyway, clickie or go to http://www.eskimo.com/~vecna/new_stuff.html

Things have just been so crazy here since the end of December. I hate the snow; glad that was only for a few days. The in-laws are staying longer than expected because they bought a new RV up here and now have to deal with all the paperwork (they're great folks, but after two weeks it's getting a little stressy). My boss quit and they haven't found a replacement yet, so Harbor House is flying without a supervisor and the residents think that means they can get away with all sorts of stuff.

I am SO looking forward to the Gathering ... you've no idea! I've missed everyone!

<Krista's age> Heck, she was like 2 when Gargoyles originally aired. (not that I should talk, I'm a big fan of the Last Unicorn, of 1983 [I was born in 1981])

Ok I'm off tommorow to see my dad! Ok everybody clap around 12:48 central time, because that's when his plane is due to land. (Not that I would know if you actually do or not, as I won't be able to be "here" until Tuesday).
I am leaving Dottie-Dog in the care of Brandon, so please alert me immediately if there is the sudden rise in the proliferation of Golden Retriever porn, as that is Dottie-dog's kinda thing. (Um, am I allowed to mention porn in here, since there's a minor present? If not, then strike that last part ;) ).
I asked my school if I could have the absences excused, and the VP of my school said as long as I could prove my dad is in the military, and is taking a trip now. I told my dad this via email and he wanted to know if sending a dead Iraqi's ear would be good proof. He then announced that the heads of my school were communists. Sounds like someone needs a little R&R.

Ok, hasta luego!

Here's a subject for thought: if you could be any gargoyle, any in the world, who would it be, and why? Or any gargoyles' mate. I don't really care.
I'd be Angela, ditch Broadway, and head straight for Brooklyn, which fits in perfectly, because he has a crush on me!
(I haven't read Pendragon, Time Dancer, Gargoyles, or any of the others yet. I'm still on Dark Ages. Therefore, I'm sticking to the philosophy that Brooklyn still has a crush on Angela, and kind-of Maggie. For now... Oh, and the only reason that I figured out that Brooklyn loves Sata later on is because of the images: "Brooklyn and Sata embrace" "Brooklyn and Sata Marrried" "Brooklyn's Family" etc. and then Z asked about a theme song for "Brooknlyn and Meryt".)

Oh, and to help you, I'm going to start doing my pictures of gargoyles and people that kind-of are my age. That should help. And I'm a little older than this one.

Greetings;

Well I'm back again. Israel was actually pretty nice. I'll have to go back and forth there for the next year, but the results that we are getting are spectacular.

Lain and Gunjack: My heartfelt congratulations to both of you. I wish you the best in this, the next stage of your lives.

Lain you need to remember to head back to Canada now and then for a booster of Canadiana (I don't think Air Farce is big in the US). You are really not missing much up here; it's bloody cold! (and that from someone who wears a T-shirt at -10)

Gunjack all I can say to you is this. REMEMBER YOUR ANAVERSARY. I know this is a cliché, but trust me; it is not something that you want to forget, ever. The one time you do, she will remember, and you may spend the next week in the doghouse (perhaps literally). For those who are forgetful I recommend either a tattoo, or some kind of nick knack that contains the date of your wedding so that there is a constant reminder present.

All the best to both of you.

Bud-Clare: My sympathies on you car problems. I got into an accident on the 401 (part of Canada's major highway... stupid truck) and it took the shop three weeks to fix the bodywork. Plus, an additional week because they ordered the wrong parts and broke my air conditioner when they tried to use them. All I know is not having a car really sucks. Thank goodness I was out of the country for most of that time.

Krista: I've already read the book, and it's really amazing! everything is amazing! The plot, the thrill... and the details you can see in the pictures of Leonardo Da Vinci, as you said about Mary a Jesus in "V" form in the picture "The Last Cena (Lunch?)". He even solves the mistery of "the Mona Lisa", "the virgen on th rocks", and many others.... I don't wanna tell you many things about the book becouse it's rather complicated and I don't want to destroy the plot.
"V" doesn't mean "marriage", it means FEMALE, it's the sign of Venus and means also "Fertility", the Godness female. But what you said about that picture is very related to marriage...
Besides the book speaks about the truth of the Bible, wether the Bible tells the truth or on the contrary the Bible has been used as a is an instrument of manipulation to obtain power and money and influences.
Well It's very amazing, everything. The story is great, you cant stop reading, there are many riddles and tricks really amazing. I think the word that describes "TheDaVinciCode" is AMAZING!!!!

Hey, little Law and Order SVU twist: There was a rerun last nite on USA that I caught, and there was a string of murders where a couple was luring people into their hotel room and killing them. Anyway, during one scene, the cops enter and say "Hey we got a report on another one, this time 1,000 miles away." And the two main cops go "Yeah, where?" and Ice T says "Kewanee, Illinois." and Richard Belzer says, "Yeah the Hog Capital of the World."
The kicker to all of this is: I was born and raised in Kewanee Illinois. Its a little town of about 13,000 people that is an hour from Peoria and an hour from the Quad Cities, Illinois/Iowa. And yes, it really is the Hog Capital of the World, or at least, claims it, because in the 1940's the county lead the world production (at some point) in hog farming, so now we devote every Labor Day weekend to Hog Days, with a carnival, and a parade and even elect King Henry, the biggest pig in all the land. They used to have pig races too, where the gates would open and all these piglets would run out and race around the track to some Oreos. And yes, it's still a better place to live than Indianapolis (although there is some insight on why I went to Chicago).
But still, it was cool to hear mention of it on a big time TV show. We must have a someone on staff there who was representin'. (or whatever). Of course, there's only, like, one hotel in Kewanee. And everyone knows everyone. And the couple was luring male escorts into their room. I wonder who they lured....
That and Ice T pronounced it "Kah-wanee". Just for the record, its pronounced "Keee-wanee." And no, Elvis doesn't live there.

Ok it's too early in the morning for me.

Possible "Gargoyles" voice cast sighting...

I think I saw Brigitte Bako (Angela) on "Law and Order" last night, playing the part of "first defendant before the inevitable plot twist leads the case in a startling new direction." I missed the credits, so I don't know for sure... but I closed my eyes for a minute while Det. Brisko was giving her the third degree and it sure sounded like her.

Greg> <<if the only "big band" you know is N'SUCK>>: Moreover, I'm surprised she didn't get it when I started talking about literal big bands.

Dezi> <<What makes it weirder is that I think alot of the voice actors (in Japanese anyway) are the same as Inuyasha>>: But for me, the oddest voice talent coincidence is the Ranma/Gundam Wing. In Japan, the Voice actor for Mousse also voiced Duo on Gundam Wing (the god of death guy), while the American Mousse also voiced Quatre from Gundam Wing (the pansy little blond kid). Of course, that's just my gripe about the American voices.
<<But the plots on Inuyasha seem to grab me better>>: Yeah, there's no real overall plot, just a goal. Though the last few stories in the manga (Orochi, Herb, and Saffron) turned out to be pretty lengthy.
<<Thanks for the reccomend>>: Not a problem, even if it didn't grab you.

Krista> <<Mormon Tabernacle Choir kind of person>>: There we go, you've at least got some classic in you. Do they do a good job on Carmina Burana?

Fire Storm> <<Part of me wants to say that smart people occasionally go there, but really, what are the chances of that?>>: All depends on what kind of intelligence you're measuring.
<<maybe we can modify them to have a quick turnaround time>>: But can we get them retargeted in the break?
<<remember when you were in your early to mid teens? High turn around?>>: Why do I have to remember that far back?
<<Baka pervert>>: Yes, yes I am. Though for full points that should have been baka hentai, baka sukebei, or baka tousakusha of course.
<<So... do we tailor the test? Let them choose from a selection? What?>>: Probably have a wide enough range of agreed upon tests for them to be able to pick out one they already know.
<<did you see that recent pizza article on Something Awful?>>: Sorry, I know it's bad of me, but I don't regularly read Something Awful.
<<Maybe he should vacuum the turf at the Skydome then>>: I don't know of any vacuuming powers inherent in Excalibur, but if wielded right, it might be better than a Zamboni for the 'Leafs.

Dezi> <<and can play a mean "country" song when they're nice and drunk>>: Or how about the Blues Brothers soundtrack for what's from the "Good Ol' Boys" bits.

Green Baron:<either scary, outdated, or both ;) > You're right, both. :D

Just watched Sinbad Legend of the Seven Seas. It was alright. One thing that really bugged me was the animation of the water. That was just getting annoying. Or, as Brandon put it, it was a main element of the story, and they made it look THAT bad? That and the monster at the very beginning just looked like something out of a video game and no where near a cartoon. In comparison, Titan AE did a much better job of blending the two styles.

Baka pervert!
<There is intelligence used in it>
But since it is a game, there is a learning curve. Many smart people don't know how to play bridge. So... do we tailor the test? Let them choose from a selection? What?

Oh, all right. But I still say that is a word that should NOT be used in that context!

OK, whoa! No, I've never seen the Best Boy and- who DOESN'T have the kind of music UNT does? Yeah, we've got wal-mart, and target, and all those, but they don't have a big variety. A big thing just for music. I meant like all the stuff up north. We don't get ALL that stuff. Like, mostly, all I see in the stores that I have been in are Hilary Duff, Brittney Spears (gag), Nick Carter, Aaron Carter, Shadaisy or whatever, Martina Mcbride, Wynonna, and Jennifer Lopez! That isn't very big in my opinion. You go to Fort Worth or McKinny, and I'll garantee you'll actually see a whole lot of stores... just for that kind of music! No, I don't know many big bands, because I don't much like that kind of music! I am a country person. If I had my way, I wouldn't be here at a computer, but at the side of a creak writing in East Texas. I am a country person. That is who I am. Pop and rock and all that other stuff just isn't apealing to me. Now I know I spelled something wrong there. Oh well. Anyway, I don't even hear about people until their band has broken up. I get a lot of CDs at garage sales for 10 cents. I'd rather do that than spend $15 on a CD. I can wait. I am a country, (with some acceptions as 98 degrees and rising, and Charlotte Church) and Mormon Tabernacle Choir kind of person. Someday, I hope to sing in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I just spent the last five minutes howling with Dottie-dog. And even that sounded better than country or Nsink. Of course, now she is having delusions of being a coyote, but hey, what can ya do?

In other news, the RNL is trying to take on MoveOn.org. This will make for an interesting bit of saga. I can't wait to see it all as it escalates. Weeee! How fun!

OK now I'm bored once again. I want school to start! Or a new Inuyasha to download!
Oh, BTW, Gside: I downloaded a couple of Ranmas and it is weird. To me, it's like Inuyasha, but twisted with a goofy Dragonball touch. What makes it weirder is that I think alot of the voice actors (in Japanese anyway) are the same as Inuyasha, so I'm hearing a familiar voice that isn't doing familiar stuff. But the plots on Inuyasha seem to grab me better. Thanks for the reccomend!

Of course, those pro-gargoyle supporters' setting off bombs everywhere to get the city to leave the gargoyles in peace would only play directly into the hands of the anti-gargoyle faction. Just think what Margot Yale would have to say about that! (And maybe Castaway, although in his case it'd definitely be the pot calling the kettle black.)

But I think that gargoyle supporters of that nature would have been a good idea for the series; they'd have made a good modern-day counterpart to the Captain of the Guard, and added in a bit of depth to the conflict (I recall that one of the criticisms of the Goliath Chronicles was that all the pro-gargoyle humans in it were almost saintly).

Incidentally, today, January 6, is the traditional birthday of Sherlock Holmes (though the notion comes, not from Arthur Conan Doyle, but from the Sherlock Holmes fans, who came up with the idea on their own and have made it semi-official).

Taleweaver: That's interesting! The Quarrymen do get kind of stale, since the law is the only real constraint to their desire to smash gargoyles. You could have an some activist kill off the Quarrymen or at least try to scare them into abandoning their efforts brutally. Maybe you could just have these progargoyle people set a series of bombs in the city, then have them send their demands for the gargoyles to city hall. It might get them in jail, but a bombing would definitely get people to take such a group seriously.

Spacebabie> <<That sucks about Blockbuster>>: Not too much, just meant that I had to stop by one on my way somewhere else.

Taleweaver> <<How would the pro-gargoyle faction be the gargoyles own worst enemy?>>: "Let's release them in their natural habitat." "They look too scary to generate sympathy from everyone else; let's carve them some happier faces."

Krista> <<As for the others... never heard of them>>: Heretic. To have never heard Sentimental Journey, Tuxedo Junction, even In The Mood!?!?!? Inconcievable.

Fire Storm> <<I may just go to a WWE wrestling match and consider that the test>>: Sounds mostly fair.
<<But if they do rape themselves, I think that's worth a Premium membership to the site!>>: It is, but we want them usable for other things, too.
<<Is bridge really a intelligence test though, or a teamwork/subterfuge game?>>: There is intelligence used in it. The first part is mostly bluffing and considering your odds. When the real playing starts one team becomes a single player and shows half their cards, so they don't have as much subterfuge to work with.
<<But in the context it was mentioned, it was definitely a vulgar use of the word>>: I'll give you that, but you still can't leave the charges at just using the word.
<<I bet MacBeth still makes good pizzas>>: Anyone who has the time to get good will probably spend at least a few years on pizza. Unless they're insane.
<<I doubt that Excalibur would be the right way to slice pizza>>: It wouldn't be the right way, but it would be fun. They might be able to drum up some more business if they have him slicing everyone's pizzas in the front.

Na zdorov'ya.

Krista - <What about "Young Love" by Wynonna Judd?>
Never heard that one before. Not much of a country fan myself. I stick to classic rock and hard rock.
<I've never heard "Fallen Embers" before.>
If you're interested in the lyrics, you can click the link below.
<Who's Enya, anyway?>
She makes easy listening music. I'm not a big fan, but I like a few songs.

Gside: <Sounds good, but will you stop to give them an intelligence test first?>
Of course! That would only be fair. Granted, I may just go to a WWE wrestling match and consider that the test.
<Couldn't we program them to only start in the presence of something else? >
Or "Self sex = bad".
Hmm... Ah, we'll figure something out. But if they do rape themselves, I think that's worth a Premium membership to the site!
<And bridge is fr four players. >
Is bridge really a intelligence test though, or a teamwork/subterfuge game?
<How are we splitting the profits for this, then?>
We'll see. I need money, and they are my cameras!
<We can't banish comparatives, they can be used in so many fun ways. E.g. "Grab the nitro; TNT is safer." >
True. But in the context it was mentioned, it was definitely a vulgar use of the word.
<But MacBeth is doing well for himself. Of course Arthur may still need to work at the Pizza Pizza.>
But I bet MacBeth still makes good pizzas. As for Arthur... Well, I doubt that Excalibur would be the right way to slice pizza.

Green Baron: <In 13 months, I'll be a civilian. Happy Dance! Woo hoo! Happy Dance!!>

Gside: Yeah, I do know Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, but I don't much like the music. As for the others... never heard of them. I mean like... CDs that are sold in Denton, TX. We don't get a lot of that stuff around here, then again, I've never been in the Luca (Hip Hop, Rock, Pop, etc,). My BF (one of them) says it's so bad news. If he says that, then I'm not sure I do want to go into the Luca.

Taleweaver> Well, it would depend on the people that PIT and the like attracted. Image management would be everything. Such an organization would have to choose it's chairperson/high-ranking officials very carefully. Said people would need to be very clean-cut, and project reason, calm, and mental stability. Someone older, from a nice boring profession like accounting, or maybe a librarian.

Without carefully managing their public face, PIT can be written off as, at best, a collection of terribly earnest, but also terribly misguided, college kids, or at worst... Well, imagine the harm such an organization could do to the gargoyles attempts at peaceful co-existance if believing that gargoyles are harmless and intelligent puts you in the same category as people who fervently believe in the vast Illuminati conspiracy that runs everything... Sure, *we* all know it's true, but try telling John Q. Citizen that. It's pretty hard to be taken seriously when everybody in your corner is wearing a tinfoil hat.

Hello and Happy New Year

I heard something that only a gargoyle fan could appreciate. Last week on NPR, there was an article about companies catering to oversized patrons; everything from jeans, furniture and more grimly coffins. One such coffin company was... wait for it.. Goliath coffins run by one Keith Davis. I've searching the net for some confirmation, but no much luck, but still thought I would share.

I was thinking about Todd's request for a topic stirring post. I thought I'd float this idea around. How do you think pro-gargoyles would misunderstand their defenders of the night? We have seen many permutations of the anti-gargoyle sentiment: Quarrymen, Phoenix Rising, etc. The pro-garogyle sentiment seems pretty staid: PIT and the like. But the road to hell is paved with good intentions. How would the pro-gargoyle faction be the gargoyles own worst enemy?

Well I had a great week at Revels, mostly we just chilled and worked on fic and art stuff. We also drove to Aaron and Mara’s and spent New Years and we saw RotK Friday.

Has a “lovely” flight home. First we were delayed because they needed to tighten a screw, then were delayed in landing because there was trouble with the wing flaps.

While I was gone my parents decided to spoil my cats by leaving the door to my room open and letting Spooky and Velvet roam freely through out the house and nobody bothered to clean their box so I had that lil chore to do.

My Wacom Graphire tablet was delivered while I was at Revels and I installed it today. Need a little more practice to get a feel for it. It came with it’s own mouse and some cool software. Photoshop elements and Painter classic.

Demona watching TV. I can see her clicking on a reality show and pointing at the screen. “This is also why the humans need to die. They are stupid.”

Replies:

Stephen<<<my eyesight is on a downward spiral, so I've been trying to save it as best I can, and that means limiting my online time.>>>Sorry to hear about your eyes. I hope everything works out.

Gside<<<Unfortunately, I can't use my Blockbuster gift card online.>>>That sucks about Blockbuster. Gift cards are great. They are the perfect gift for parties where the gift for the gift exchange has to equal ten dollars.

Archwolf<<<Yes, but no Barney.>>>Amen! The man has too much taste to let Alex rot his mind on that filth.

Green Baron<<<In 13 months, I'll be a civilian. Happy Dance! Woo hoo! Happy Dance!>>>Woot! Party!

Kjay<<<I went to carlsbad caverns two months ago and thought it was pretty cool.>>>Yeah that place is great. Did you stop by the candy store in the touristy area? It has the best fudge I have ever tasted.<<<I've just watched the movie "The Iron Giant" and noticed that the goverment agent kent mansley looks and acts like
a twisted version of matt bluestone>>> I thought the same thing when I saw the movie. I can see him as Matt’s uncle, the one nobody talks about at family meals.

Revel<<<Now she's back in Florida.>>>I missed you the second I went looking for my gate. :::Smooch:::
