DPH> <<Now, the Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon is more powerfull>>: Eh, all the big cards are too annoying to get out, unless you discard and revive.
<<the YuGiOh Spoilers are meant to give insight into how I think and the issues I am thinking about when working on the gargoyles card game>>: Then why bother with the character assessment and out of game items.

Todd> <<the heavy amount of clips of previous episodes in the series (one of its major weaknesses)>>: A weakness of just about any anime based off a manga. Anything they can to to have a buffer between the show and the current comic. They've learned from DBZ (and Kenshin, I believe).

Bud Clare> <<I've been known to yell "Bad seed! Bad!">>: But then half a second later it gives you straight criticals, or whatever the equivalent it.

Todd> <<he died in the original series - they just didn't mention it in the dubbed American version>>: The Japanese should really torment the editors more by spending time around tomsbtones and corpses.

Fire Storm> <<But I have to REGISTER>>: Forgot about that.
<<I don't think my boss would like me downloading a gig or so of vids>>: you'd need to get more than 20 or so to hit a gig, and amv.org isn't that fast.
<<My decency LIKES porn and finds nothing wrong with it>>: Well, that proves that your decency is insane.
<<It even says that it's a HEALTHY way to keep me from cheating>>: You think you'd find someone besides the Lady go for a tumble with you?
<<drain her of blood and shove her on the "pillar" before she dies>>: Spells are rather picky about this sort of thing, and they'd want a special kind of virgin blood. You know, the kind you fly the bedsheets for.
<<Convince? You make it sound like rope isn't involved>>: Well, I don't want to carry her all the way out there, and sometimes it pays off if you start out nice.
<<cross a black hole with a bag of holding... the Goatse Hole>>: You just had me imagine a picture of that opening behind the Chrono Trigger battle screen. You really are evil.
<<Ah, wimp>>: Yes, that's old news.
<<I have found the joys of Metaquote>>: A search for metaquote results in a bunch of stock sites.

DPH> <<anytime things get out of seriously out of balance (one player is getting extremely bad luck) , the game attempts to fix things>>: Might as well take turns choosing where each piece will land (within twelve spaces).

Bud-Clare - What I would prefer as a "fairness counter" - anytime things get out of seriously out of balance (one player is getting extremely bad luck) , the game attempts to fix things. Of course, this version would be called 'monopoly-beta' to alert players that the code is being tweaked to achieve fairness. Also, IRL, you can tell when you have almost gone through all the Community Chest and Chance cards, in an online version, it might be advisable to adjust the color (from bright to dull) to indicate how many cards are left in each respective stack. Of course, there's also the business of tweaking the code in 'short' games, to ensure that no player gets set-up with a monopoly at the start of the game, (maybe even blocking near monopolies as well). Also, you shouldn't get the $200 bonus for landing on GO if you got a card that took you there. Then, I'd like the auction rule changed. If you have houses/hotels, you have to either buy the property or it gets auctioned. Otherwise, you have the option of buying the property, auctioning the property, or not buying the property. Of course, I'd like more cards: Advance to the FURTHEST railroad and Advance to the FURTHEST utility (thus guaranting that you pass go). You shouldn't get the $200 bonus for landing on Go if you got a card that sent you to GO. My favorite option is "Build Evenly".

Christine - <someday, I will snare you in my clutches ... someday ...> Hehehe. I'll be snared for a different reason. Once the gargoyles card game group gets through work on all the cards for the canon episodes of Gargoyles, work will start on incorporating material from various Gargoyles fan-fic into the card game. Eventually, I will get to your fan-fic stories one way or another. I'm just hoping to finish going through most (if not all) of the material from the canon episodes by my Fall Semester. Once we get through with cards from the canon episodes of Gargoyles, hehehe, it's going to be learning experience for all of us when it comes to incorpating material from the various gargoyles fan-fic universes into the game, provided the author gives permission.

oh sorry DPH, Ytv (canada) has shown all the way to the end of the tournament....
I may have slightly spoiled it for you.....
the quick rundown is basically at this point (where you are)
malik has the ring and the staff.. he m ay have the eye...
shadi has always had the key and the scales
yugi/yami has the puzzle and (the necklace?)
so its down to the three

And OH so much FUN! I bet the laws would be changed quite a bit. Someone pisses you off, break their legs! No harm done. They will be healed tomorrow!

Gside: <Also good are Senshi on Springer and you'll like Lollipops, Sunshine, and rrrRRRrrr>
But I have to REGISTER! I don't think my boss would like me downloading a gig or so of vids, so I'll think about it when I am at home
<Maybe dremel it after you give you decency a long soak in porn>
Here's the odd thing: My decency LIKES porn and finds nothing wrong with it! It even says that it's a HEALTHY way to keep me from cheating!
<They're rarer than you'd think.>
Oh, I know. But they exist
<But I'm sure most of the spells need virgin blood, and once that's gone, it's gone>
Hmm... so... then get the virgin from town, drain her of blood and shove her on the "pillar" before she dies.
<Because we might have to to convince her to go in the first place.>
Convince? You make it sound like rope isn't involved!
<Depends on whose rules you follow, right?>
I suppose. Keep in mind that I prefer respawning (and infinite weapons)
<Creepy, and I was only thinking about a takeoff or Crono Trigger's Crono/Lucca/Ayla Gattling Kick triple tech.>
Yeah, but where's the fun in that? Hmm... cross a black hole with a bag of holding... the Goatse Hole.
<Actually, it's not so much afford as having a guarranteed point at which I will replace that money>
Ah, wimp.

DPH: <One of my big gripes is the place doesn't have a rule for how often you have to make a move>
It doesn't? There has to be a way to make a game like that. I used to have a monopoly game that you could set a time limit on it.

Christine: <Janine Xanatos in "Future Imperfect" mentions the 'Texas spitfire' that was her nanny when she was little>
Oh yeah! I remember that now!

DPH - They showed the duel where Yugi used Exodia on Kaiba in the first "Yu-Gi-Oh" episode they ran in the U.S.

As for Noah, although I'm not an expert on the series, others who know more about it than I do have said (I've occasionally lurked in anime forums) that he died in the original series - they just didn't mention it in the dubbed American version - so he won't be returning.

Actually I think gargoyles would make a much better board game than a card game... Yes you could have cards in the board game but I think that aspect would suit gargoyles better.

Todd: Yes, that was what the people reacting to it in the article were saying. I have to say, I'd find it an incredibly hard question to answer just because it doesn't seem clear what the question wants. On the one hand, you'd want to answer the question directly, but on the other hand you presumably would be expected to show some knowledge about 'Macbeth' in the answer, and I just can't imagine how an Agony Aunt could possibly drop in casual reference to 'Macbeth' (save, perhaps, in the context of "if you see any daggers in the air, please consult your GP immediately and by no means handle actual daggers or go near sleeping authority figures"). It really is very strange indeed.

Vash> <<I just noticed that your gargoyles page isn't linked off your main page. Are you planning on taking it down? I saw you already took down the "Simpgoyles" fic (too bad--that was really cute. Do you still have a copy on your HD?).>>
I'm not sure yet. It probably will be back up sometime (seeing as I already started redesigning it), but I put the redesign on hold until I finish revamping the O/P site. The gargoyles site was still the original version from way back when I was first learning html, so it scared me and I took it down until I redo it. Not _down_ down, obviously, but I took the link down. The Simpgoyles is posted at garg-fans, as far as I know. I assume I'll put it back up sometime, though. Forgot I even took it down.

DPH> <<Of course, I'd swear the game has 'moods'. I was playing online and kept hitting all the fines and my opponent kept collecting all the cash.>>

Todd - the big battle I've missed is the one where Yugi beat Kiba with Exodia. I've searched for episode summaries to figure out which episode that would be, apparantly, it's prequel or it was released in Japan, not the US. And yes, I thought the flashbacks (especially showing the same scenes over and over and over and over) were excessive. I understand they're trying to build momentum going into the duel, but sheesh.

damien - <staff: marik then yugi(?)> I'm still holding out hope that somehow Kiba ends up with the staff, based on how he won the duel against Isis. Aside from Kiba getting an item, I don't see him changing his tune towards accepting his past. That's the big reason I wanted Kiba to go against Merrick. Right now, I'm trying to figure out post-tournament events. Assuming Mia isn't rescued, that's on the top of the list. Next is somehow trying to rescue Noah. Of course, I'm wondering when in heck Yami figures out that Yugi and him aren't the only ones in the puzzle. Of course, Odeon (spelling?) may hold the key to Joey's victory. If he recovers and shows up, that changes everything. Still, can you help me piece together the timeline of events? I'm a bit confused about the order of these events: Pegasus gets the Eye, Merrick gets the Staff, and Pegasus creates the God cards. Based on Merrick's comments about his sister's dueling abilities, I thought they played Duel Monsters when growing up. But the flashback to when when Pegasus created the God-Cards showed a grown up Isi with the necklace.

DPH - [Anyways, the Yugi vs Kiba duel should be interesting, maybe with flashbacks to the 1st time Yugi beat Kiba.]

Based on the heavy amount of clips of previous episodes in the series (one of its major weaknesses), I shouldn't be at all surprised. (I will confess that one of my favorite parts of yesterday's "Yu-Gi-Oh" episodes was when, after Joey completed his overlong speech about all the experience that he'd gained in his past battles, complete with a lot of clips of those battles, Kaiba replied with "Now can we please get on with the game?" - he practically voiced what I was thinking at that point.)

Key: Shadi

**dph drives up in a monopoly car**

**MONOPOLY RANT**
yes, I've been playing online monopoly recently. One of my big gripes is the place doesn't have a rule for how often you have to make a move. I got held hostage noon Saturday by a player who refused to move until I granted a trade. Of course, I'd swear the game has 'moods'. I was playing online and kept hitting all the fines and my opponent kept collecting all the cash. I eventually ran out of money because I had everything mortaged and got busted before all property was bought by a $14 rent. Then there's the "short' game option. Too often, it gives away a monopoly when randomly assign property and too often it gives property with inequity with regards to face value.

Of course, I play monopoly based on certain principles. In the beginning of the game, I want to use as much cash as possible to buy property, even to the point of running out of cash. In the long run, this pans out because I'll eventually unmortage everything and when I do, I'll be collecting lots of rent. Another principle is I don't buy houses/hotels early in the game. I want enough assests (property) to potentially cover fees/rents in case I land on dreaded objects. Lastly, I NEVER mortage property to buy houses/hotels PERIOD. It just isn't worth the risk, IMO. The biggest lesson I've learned is never trade unless it is to my advantage, especially early on. Giving away a monopoly to acquire all the Railroads just isn't worth it.
**END MONOPOLY RANT**

**YuGiOh Spoilers**
Damn, damn, damn, damn. I really wanted Kiba to go against Merrick so that Kiba would finally accept his ancient Egyptian past. As it is, I don't think that will happen.

Of course, I disagree with Kiba's assestment of Joey's skills. As long as Joey is dualing for a cause and has a level head, he's as unbeatable as his cards will let him. That's why I don't expect Joey to win the duel; his cards simply aren't good enough to match Merrick's rare cards. I really liked it when they were in the virtual world and had to choose their cards; that's where the real skill showed. Having the deck is one thing, knowing why you neeed each card is another. Honestly, I believe the only reason Kiba was #1 was because he has the only Blue Eyes White Dragons in the game, which once upon a time, were the most powerfull monsters. Now, the Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon is more powerfull than his Egyptian God Card, if it can attack.

Anyways, the Yugi vs Kiba duel should be interesting, maybe with flashbacks to the 1st time Yugi beat Kiba.

BTW, I'm a bit perplexed about the millinum items arc. Last time I checked, the spirit of the ring had the eye but it hasn't shown up in a long time, and supposedly all the millenium items were aboard the airship. Aside from the eye, there's one more item I haven't seen on board. Whatever the last millenium item is. If all the items were really on board, who in heck has the eye and that last item? The spirit of the ring didn't have it or Merrick would have seized it by now. Really dumb question, about the eye, if whoever has it is still dueling, why not use it?
**End YuGiOh spoilers**

In case anybody is wondering, the YuGiOh Spoilers are meant to give insight into how I think and the issues I am thinking about when working on the gargoyles card game.

Christine - sadly, I have never read your fan-fic yet, but I am an avid reader; once I find a good story/book to read, I don't like putting it down and my time suddenly stops.

ED - After reading that, the biggest question that I had was what the letter of advice to Sam has to do with "Macbeth" - it seems almost as if that opening sentence was squeezed in simply to provide a desperate link (and tenuous, at that) to Shakespeare's plays. If this is typical of the questions that they're putting on exams, than Britain's educational system is definitely in trouble.

Saw this in the paper and it reminded me of the discussion about the "write Duncan's diary" exercise we discussed a few weeks ago. This is from a compulsory national exam for 14 year-olds:

"In Macbeth, Banquo warns Macbeth about the witches' influence. You give advice in a magazine for young people.

"You receive this request: 'Please advise me. I have recently moved school and made some new friends. I like spending time with them but my form tutor thinks my work is suffering. What should I do? Sam.'

"Write your advice to be published in the magazine."

I really wonder who comes up with these things...

While I'm at it, I've linked another article that's as bizarre, but much more serious in nature. It's by an expat columnist who reports on American life, politics and culture, and compares the way the American public apparently reacted to Janet Jackson's boob and the way it reacted to the Iraqi abuse scandal.

Josh> <<I WILL get a master's degree if I pass my three finals next week>>: If? I know you want to say when.
<<Got a cushy gig at a small product development firm in Fremont>>: I'd have thought you'd get something at apple.
<<Will learn guitar and join a band>>: You could use your violin as a fiddle and play some bluegrass, or learn a wind and get funky.

Martin> <<And besides, my English isn't that good (sorry for that in advance)>>: Don't worry, we've seen worse. Mostly from Americans.
<<Is there anyone from Germany around?>>: Tribun's pretty rare nowadays, and we don't see Guandalug much, but he is in charge of the main fanfic archive.

Frogleggs> <<Peple only post while at work I assume>>: It's generally even throughout the day, but there still isn't a huge number of people around, so don't expect a response in 15 minutes, don't expect a response in an hour, and you may not get anyone noticing you've said for even the rest of the day (I myself post only around midnight daily).

Jackal> <<is there "wanted" herpes?>>: There's probably a fetish for it.

Hello everyone.

Well, another lurker revealed.

I just wanted to say hello from good old Germany.

I sit here in front of my sun ultra 1 and finished Gargoyles season 1. Great work by the way.

I study Applied Computer Sciences at the University of Applied Science in Fulda.
Life there is hard I tell you. The number of friend I could talk about fantasy, anime and classic cartoon-series is limited as best.

I stumbled over the TGS two month ago and take refugee from my studies in reading the stories now and then. I'm kind of shy when it comes to cr's, that's why I didn't post earlier. And besides, my English isn't that good (sorry for that in advance).

So much for myself now.

Is there anyone from Germany around?

It's almost 2:30 am now, time to get slowly to greet the bed for the night.

So, Good night to you all. Bye.

Thanks a ton for the offer, but I'm pretty close to being done now. The only part I needed was the famous quotes, and someone (Gabriel I think?) hooked me up. Just about finished Othello today, so I'm hoping to just get it out of the way this weekend.

Totally unrelated side note: Tonight my band is making our first radio appearance - wish me luck! Unfortunately, we can only do an acoustic set (my acoustic skills are nothing to brag about, but it's a great opportunity). So let's hope I don't suck! Actually, writing acoustic material was one of the things keeping me from that damn Othello project.

Since I know no one's asked, here's an update.

School: just finished my last paper EVER. Passed my comprehensives, which means I WILL get a master's degree if I pass my three finals next week. Two are open book/notes. In classes where my average is 95% or higher. Graduation in 10 days.

Job: Got a cushy gig at a small product development firm in Fremont. Decided not to return to LA after all because my friends are all staying up here. Getting the hell out of Berkeley, though. Will learn guitar and join a band. Mostly for the wimmins.

...Sorry my supposed laziness has offended some people. My friggin' fault. Just looking for help on an assignment. I AM in the process of reading the book, it's just that I know very little about Shakespeare, so I would've read through the famous quotes and not noticed any - it's not like I'm blowing off the assignment, just looking for help on about a tenth of it since I'm pretty much stressed to the max right now. I'm going to have to side with Bud-Clare on this one Tharos. Shakespeare's plays don't take too long to read. You could have read one in a day, easily. Or gone out and rented a production of a play (which is a lot different than renting the movie based on a book). Did I suffer from senioritis? You bet I did. Did I do my work? Same answer as before. I wasn't the best student back in high school, but I always read every book I was assigned, or chose to read for school. I never read Cliff's Notes, and to this day still won't. I dislike the concept, and actually have recently chewed out a teacher for buying Cliff's Notes on a book for her whole class.

Just read the book, it's not that hard. And yes, I know what it is to be busy. Try studying for college finals, turning in term papers, family obligations and PLANNING a Gathering sometime... did it last year around this time.

Brutis: <just clicky for something really stoupid and funny about animals he he he>
Ah, I am not too fond of those screaming fake mouth flash videos. The voices give it no redeeming value and it causes me to close the browser without giving the content a second chance. Sorry.
You need a flash that can stick in your head, is catchy, AND, and this is important, is visually, audibly and aesthetically pleasing.
Take Badger, Badger. Sure, it can be annoying, but the tune is pleasant and the visuals are cute, causing you to watch it for a while so the song can get deeply rooted in your head.
Take this new one for example: All your base are belong to us v1.0
The visuals are timed quite well to the audio, and the visuals are interesting. You watch it once just to see what it is, and you see things that are interesting. So you watch it a second time. By that point, you've seen the intro twice and the nonsense dialogue is starting to get into your head. Before you can think about it, they start the song and the visuals start to flood in. Video over, you close your browser. BUT the next time you see something that resembles the visuals, the song pops back into your head.
Perhaps later, you go home and click the link again. That's three times. It's now stuck in your head for the next week. And when it starts to go away, you will click the link yet again, cementing it in your skull not for another week, but for a MONTH.
I know this from experience. I saw that thing a good dozen or so times and that video and song are a permanent part of my mind. I unfortunately cannot get it completely out. Every so often, I click the link and refresh my memory.
THAT, my friend, is what an addictive flash video is all about!
<but i am trying to fins somethig even cooler to do with them>
Disc launcher!
<that was a spell for you...it means (may you have trouble in your days till removal)>
Ah, another curse. I'll add it to the pile.

Gside: <That doesn't register with me as being very nordic>
True, but I have to pep it up for the times.
<Shame, you know I'm a glutton for punishment.>
I know, I know. No matter what I do, I just can't seem to burn away that sense of decency.
<But musical holes isn't until the second half of the orgy>
Ah, so what? As long as you are pleased, who cares?
<Is it just long, or is it also proportionally wider?>
It's not TOO wide. Coke can width.
<Someone maintained their innocence throughout the entire rest of the dungeon?>
Token virgin character. Protect the innocence at all costs just incase there is a spell like this
<Right, let's go back to town to pick up that vestal virgin>
A barmaid or the town damsel? Who can't fight? Wouldn't survive the trip into the dungeon. At least you can fight back.
<Ooh, there's an idea triple tech limit breaks.>
"BUKAKKE BUSTER!"
<You could always put a mangled drivers license in your sandwitch.>
Hmm... yeah, that could work too. Or a ring on a hotdog.

And senioritis. You said that you had a bad case of senioritis, which loses you sympathy on the busyness front.

This may come as a surprise to you, but most of us got through high school just fine without asking random people for help. And complaining about having to read a play in under two weeks is kind of sad. It's not like you have to read a novel.

The first monologue of Act 5 scene 1 should be sufficient. That whole speech is chocked-full of quotes. ("It is the cause. It is the cause, my soul. Let me not name it to you, you chaste stars.... Put out the light, and then...put out the light"). Also, the speech Othello gives before he dies is famous (the one where Othello compares himself to a "base indian" that gave a pearl away, richer than all his tribe). AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAnnnnnnddd...... my personal favorite is Iago's last line in the whole play
(OTHELLO: Will you, I pray, demand that demidevil why he has thus ensnared my sould and body?
IAGO: Demand me nothing. What you know you know. From this day forth I shall never say a word.)

This is my favorite play, so I can think of a million quotable lines from it :).

I have a question for you scholarly bunch of raving psychos. Since Gargoyles has a bunch of obvious ties to Shakespeare, I figured some of you guys might be into ol' Willy's works.

Has anyone read Othello? I'm reading it in the next week or so (WHY did we get a Shakespeare assignment with 12 days of school left?!), and one thing I have to do is pick out any of the famous quotes that stand out in it. Does anybody know of any?

Thanks.

Happy Birthday, Emambu!

I don't think it was mentioned at the time, but Emambu was great on edits for TGS 'Pendragon' Season Four. He gave some really thorough and insightful comments on the episodes he edited (this kind of semi-outside feedback for 'Pendragon' drafts was pretty rare, unfortunately). From my point of view, his comments on "The Mists of Eynhallow" really improved the episode a lot, and his stylistic comments were great food for thought even on the episodes he didn't directly edit. So thanks Emambu!

Krista> <<Anybody here read that?>>: What, the Arthurian legends? Or a specific take on them?

Fire Storm> <<Kenya! Cute lions! Cute tigers! Celebrate them!>>: Kenya's not working for me right now. Maybe it's because I'm also running Bittorrent right now, but that's not using much bandwidth at the moment.

Revel> <<Off to find better job in this "real world" I've heard so much about>>: You can always put it off for a bit. I've managed a year now, but soon I should be back on the warpath.

Na zdorov'ya.

Well, small update.

Got done with school on Friday, ran through graduation, fun fun, and I went back to work today. We had Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson as our guest of honor speaker. Well spoken, like any politician. Of course after her speech I was expecting to find armed MP's with tables near by for which branch we were suppose to enlist in. Talk about a piece of propaganda.
Other than that, nothing new. Off to find better job in this "real world" I've heard so much about. :P

Anybody here read that? It has Avalon, the Wierd Sisters, (in some form)and a lot of fays. It has King Arthur in it too. He's Morgan's half-brother.

That's not a riot. There are many names for that, but riot isn't one of them.
