Charles: Whoa, someone else from Pittsburgh on the CR. Sweet, we could like hang out if we felt like it when I'm in the Burgh at school next year.
Today I was listening to a particular song that I've known for about a year and a half, and it hit me that the lyrics could be completely Gargoyles-inspired. I'll post 'em tomorrow when I get the chance. Later everyone.

Charles> <<if all the spin offs on here work together>>: All TGS spin offs are in the same universe. The generral fic archive is completely unrelated.
<<my other ? is if you are done making episodes>>: There are allegedly people working on more now, but it'll still be a while before anyone else sees any results.

Z> <<The word "language" was probably implied to mean spoken language>>: It is. It's etymology comes from tongue (which I don't believe fish have).
<<language is essentially communication>>: Not quite, language is a subset of communication.
<<You cannot not communicate>>: Does anyone know if the first creatures with variable behaviors had any way to sense each other?

<<<Which came 1st: thought or language>>: Thought. Namely "swim swim swim eat swim swim eat eat".>
Pardon my quibbling, but I'm going to disagree on a technicality. The word "language" was probably implied to mean spoken language, but language is essentially communication. If you ask any communications major, he/she will probably tell you, "You cannot not communicate." I bet subconcious/involuntary communication, and thus a form of language, came before conscious thought. Not that it really matters. :)

Went to see "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" today.
* SPOILERS *
I've mentioned this in the other room, but it's interesting to note that they go for the same rules of time travel as "Gargoyles" in that time travelers don't change the past, but contribute to it. This is especially the case when we find out who was *really* responsible for the Patronus that saved Harry and Sirius from the dementors. (Though there are differences, such as the fact that you can't let anybody see you in the HP form of time travel, while in "Gargoyles", those who used the Phoenix Gate to go back in time could be seen by others, and often had to be to achieve their goals.)
I was amused by the inclusion of the "Double double" bit from "Macbeth" as the song for the "Hogwarts Glee Club".
Quite a fun movie, and very atmospheric. It's noticeably darker than the first two; the dementors are truly sinister. And I got a good laugh at the Whomping Willow's scenes in establishing the change of seasons (such as wringing itself dry once winter ends and the snow melts). I highly recommend it.

Z - The Julia bit is a coincidence; Julia was the daughter of Caesar Augustus in real history, who was notorious for her wild behavior (all the more a problem for Augustus in light of his desire to restore a more "family values" attitude towards Rome, the same desire that led to his getting the original Magus to cast that spell of modesty over the gargoyles so that they wouldn't wake up naked each evening).
DPH - Actually, I doubt that Demona's likely to be getting pregnant for a long time to come, at least, since I don't see her getting romantic with anybody for a very long while. Not after the way that things went with Thailog; nothing like being betrayed by the guy whom she thought was in love with her and being dumped for a clone of herself - who, to add to the insult, is actually a combined clone of herself and a certain police detective - to make Demona extremely sour about romance for a long time to come.

Ok, here's my long overdue post.
Saturday, I sorta fell asleep and missed the 1st half of the 1 episode of YuGiOh. Thankfully, I saw the whole episode today.
Kyryn - congrats.
Brutis - Search for posts by Lynati on Thursday and this is what I am eyeballing: <Yes, Emambu is a local. However, he still has a year left in college and already turned down an offer to help with the 2005 Vegas bid (which I have confirmation IS being submitted, if it has not already)...but you could always ask him to help for a later con.>
I'm getting ready to start taking Zoloft again. Stupid paperwork takes a month to get processed so it would be a month before I could get free stuff. I've been struggling against feeling of depression. I finally found something to do to lift my spirits, if only temporarily: working on another computer program.
I would like to see a Gathering held in the Memphis area, since somehow I doubt there are enough fans in Arkansas to organize a Gathering in Little Rock.
Patrick - Thank you for posting those reminders until how long until the Gathering. There were annoying at 1st, but now, they're worthwhile.
I've rented LOTR:ROK and am looking forward to seeing it.
Lain - <yeah, i was on holiday, so sue me ;) > That's no excuse, Lain ;)
Patrick - <Of course, Demona's pretty bad tempered as it is. Can you imagine what she'd be like if every four weeks she had to lay an egg the size of a large watermelon?> What about how Demona handles being a human? Besides, Demona being pregnant . . with Puck's spell of transformation on her, I'm not sure how pregnacy with her would work.
Patrick - <And for that matter... which came first, the chicken or the egg? ;) > The chicken, of course. Which came 1st: thought or language
Todd - <Why do I have the feeling that Greg's going to be bombarded with egg questions now at the Gathering? > So he's going to be bombared with eggstra questions, that's all. <When "Ask Greg" becomes operational again,> Do you really want Ask Greg opened up to another flood of questions? He's barely made progress on the existing ones. The only hope for Ask Greg is if somebody on their own to work out the new system and then Gorebash implements it. There are still 665 questions left.
Fire Storm - < I think that gargoyles are on their way to extinction anyway > Only because of humans.
My cats seem to be ignoring me (at best) when they're not hungry and whining at me when they are. Does anybody wonder why I don't feel like leaving them with a bunch of food at a time?
I've been playing some more online monopoly. I still believe the game has moods. I'm starting to wonder about the possibility of delaying my dice roll to a certain moment when I theoritically have a better chance of rolling the number I want. If the mechanism for choosing which numbers get rolled on the dice relies on time, there might be something to it.
Gunjack - <It's comming, slowly but surely. Currently, the series authors are preparing to flee the federal government, so that complicates things somewhat. But yeah, it's comming.> So the black ops people finally decided to go after the series authors before they get to lay out something close to the truth of reality?
Ed - <Thirteenth. Hope that's not bad luck, since I need it this week...> Was that week weak?

Sorry for the double, but I have a question regarding a very old Timedancer episode:
In "Out of Joint part 2", a character referred to at one point as "Miss Julia" attempts in vain to seduce Brooklyn. Does anyone (not sure if anyone who worked on the story is still around) happen to know if that was an allusion to the 19th century play "Miss Julie". Both Miss Julie and the Timedancer character Julia were upper class individuals who were both attracted to males that would be considered below their social class. I'm just curious if this in an intentional allusion or if this is just a coincidence. Thanks.
Peace

Congrats to Kyryn!
I know it's been AGES since I stopped in here, and I apologize. The reason I'm posting tonight is because, in my massive packing and cleaning for my move out west, I ran across some unsold prints from my Gargoyles Zodiac series. Instead of throwing these away (since I have so much stuff to move), I was wondering if anyone would want to take them off my hands, for about $2.50 each (8.5"X8"). What I have left for sale are: -4 Brooklyn as Aries prints on semigloss; -3 Hudson as Taurus on semigloss; -1 Owen/Puck as Gemini on semigloss; -1 Lexington as Cancer on matte and detailed with silver ink; -1 Bronx as Leo on matte detailed with gold ink; -1 Angela as Virgo on glossy; -1 Elisa as Libra on matte and detailed with silver; -1 Xanatos as Scorpio on glossy; -1 Demona as Pisces on glossy; and -1 Coldstone as Capricorn on glossy (sadly, no Broadway as Aquarius left).
If you can't remember what the series looked like, just click my website link or go to http://www.kryshiggins.com/chara.htm and scroll down to find the thumbnails of the Gathering Zodiac images. Contact me at fluff_astrid@yahoo.com if you're interested, whether it be in one image or several :) Thanks!
Gside: Good to see you still posting in here. What are you up to these days; where are you working?

Gathering bids>>
Interestingly enough, this was the topic of a very vigorous conversation over in S8 last night. The Vegas bid was discussed, but the two that seemed most likely to be proposed was Detroit (FireStorm, don't be surprised if you, Lady Mystic and Coyote get an email about this -- your former bid came up) and Toronto. Cleveland was briefly discussed as it's known that a hotel chain there has expressed interest. I debated throwing my hat into the ring briefly -- Mesquite has a spanking new convention center, nearby restaurants, access to the Mesquite rodeo -- but then I came to my senses. *L* I'm too darned busy as it is -- A-kon's tomorrow, I'm running two life-drawing sessions and I'm STILL matting pictures.

hey yall...
hey i have to side with Fire Storm ((even though he is siding with me)) . make any bid... the only reason i dont is because i am the ONLY one i know of down here that is into the gargoyles and would host a gathering. the other is that i am VERY seriously low on funds. i have been sitting on 3 dollars in my checking account for a week and have to bounce one for gas and groceries tomorrow. but as fire storm said i would be willing to send him any money i could even if i had to write a very hot check. ide send it tomorrow if he is puts the bid and gets seleced. ide even drive up ther and help out. look ill help F.S. as i said ill write you a check and put it in the mail i just dont have the recorces to do it down here. not enuf things to get attention in louisiana. and as i said i really dont have the man power to do it myslef

Kathy > You can't have your eggs and eat them, too. Either we have to accept the rules of nature based on comparison to real species, or we just "fanwank" and make everything up. And that makes these pseudo-scientific discussions rather pointless, IMO.
The solar energy thing is another example of something that probably sounded good at the time but is really perplexing when you start to take a hard look at it. For starters, we have to decide whether or not Sevarius was just making use of his B.S. degree when he made that statement. And I'm not sure that first big question has itself ever been clearly resolved.
That issue aside, however, it'd still be impossible for gargoyle eggs that are sealed inside a cave to benefit from any kind of metabolic solar charging. And as for thermal energy... unless it's sitting on a hot spring, a cave isn't going to act as radiator, either. By virtue of it being underground, though, it WILL provide a constant temperature environment pretty much year-round. And that's one thing that eggs definitely need to incubate properly.
65 days left until The Gathering 2004 in Montreal, Quebec!

Gside: <Average it out to the middle, and you'll be happy.>
There is something morally wrong with Classical-Trance-Hard Rock-Country-Rap.
<Channel the ghost of Freddie Mercury and have him rearrange it.>
As soon as I have him complete "New York, New York"
<I'm somewhat disappointed that you didn't have anything to say about my implication that you thought of your mother as a sex>
Ah, that was my implication too.
<That is nice, but all the same, I don't know it well enough for it to be a french hug>
At least it isn't a ass hugger
<And yes, once again, I have created a new nightmare>
Oh yeah... like the $8.5K+ I have spent on this thing wasn't bad enough!
<Probably sometime after the yearbook is finished, and then we'll be heading off to a suburb of Chicago>
Out of curiosity, which suburb? I actually used to live in Aurora.
<But doesn't every wedding have to have someone cry? Granted, it wouldn't be in that "I always cry at weddings" way, but you take what you can get.>
Ah... crap. Tissues... do you think I have to supply that TOO?
<I guess you'll just have to win them over with your cooking skills. But a tip: find someone else be the main dish>
Or pick something non-human based, I guess. Oh well. I REALLY wanted to try some recipes from Hannibal's book too.
<It's mostly oil and egg, it's just not something you generally think of as eggy.>
Yeah, I know what it's made of... well... I suppose if you used really good oils and mustard powder...
<Maybe because he was just another voice on the net, like us all here.>
Or maybe he was a writer. Not sure on that yet.
Damien: <To myself: and on the # of egs in their life is 3 or 4 tops... which still is a little low for a viable species>
Hell... at 2 eggs the species is only self-sustaining. 3 would permit a very slow growth in the number of the species, but ONLY with a 100% survival rate.
G2005: Ok... I agree with Brutis. SOMEONE has to make a con bid for 2005. Now, who REALLY wants to hold it in their own city? And who would be willing to REALLY help out if someone were to make a bid?
Worst comes to worst, and I haven't talked to LM about this, but come 06-14-04, if there is no bid, I may be willing to resurrect my old G2004 bid for 2005. I don't know who is local, I don't know if Coyote would be available for it, but the fact is I wouldn't be able to do it alone.
Who would SERIOUSLY be willing to help out on a bid up here in Detroit? You don't have to be local, but it would help. And each person needs to be able to contribute $500-$1000, with the possibility that you may not get it all back.
OR...
Who would want to put in a bid for 2005 in their own city but don't think they have enough people to do it? SPEAK UP! You'll never get anyone to help if you don't ask! Maybe I'll be able to help too.
Point is, I don't want the Gatherings to die. Let's keep them alive.

Nna> You will have to go through an attorney and have guardianship papers drawn up. Your daughter will have to sign over her right to guardianship to you. This does not give up her parental rights, though. You will need to ask the attorney about the father's rights - it depends on what your state laws are concerning this issue. Once your daughter signs the papers, it will have to go before a Judge and he/she will make the ruling that you and your husband are legal guardians of the baby.
Best wishes and good luck on all of this - I know that it can be a very trying time for everyone involved.

I need to find out about gardianship laws. I have a daughter she is a baby haveing a baby. Only the baby will not be insured when he or she is born. In order for that to happen my husband and I need to prove gardianship of the baby. So if any one knows what steps we have to go through let me know please

Damian > You fanwank what works for you and I'll fanwank what works for me. Greg also said at one point that the gargoyles received some of their nutrition from solar energy. So maybe the eggs receive supplemental nutrition from some other source, either solar like the adults or the thermal energy of the rookery potentiates some other cellular process.

saying that with only 14 days left to post bid for the 2005 convention there are still no bids. ide bid but for one i am only one person and 2 i hate my city so i know nothing about it...plus everyone i talk to hates the state of louisiana. oy vey
i's just wondering if this news will catch anyone elses attention. i want to go to a gathering but i have no way to make it this year and the funds are severly limited to host one down here. plus as i said not many people wish to come to louisiana.
((end ranting))
ok back to biology...
i dunno i have been reading a little up on eggs and such and the eggs being able to take in moistrue and things formt the oustide it is starting to sound more like a repital egg. they have leather like eggs that are flexable but do not change in size...hmm soomone last week said that...maby that is the key. they are flexable at the beginging and then herden up... damn i wish i could get to the gathering this year i would love to hear the answers to this discussion.
well i gotta go now..gotta finish ballancing my checkbook.

Gside: Less hairy? Braid laying on desk? Nooooo!
Sorry... I was the only long-haired guy in my school. There used to be more but they all cut it off, and it was always a sad day. :( As for what to call it, you're on your own.
Wow, received some news today that I'm not quite sure how to take. My band's been ready for a long time to do a 3-hour set at a party, and about 5 minutes ago I found out the date was July 10th. Then earlier today I got an opportunity to do 2 hours at another party (an awesome, rich party), which is also July 10th. 5 hours, one day? That's gonna be a freaking marathon! I'm worn out thinking about that.

I am now much less hairy than I was yesterday, and I have a braid well over a foot long lying on my desk. I think I'l start petting it, but what should I call it?

NO NONO....
no...
remember that an egg is a contained system... the limit on size is How big the creature will be when born.....
the egg cannot expand, becaus the fetus/chick/garglet would run out of food, once they reached the size of the layed egg.... so it makes sense tolay a larger egg, it allows the body to store up the food for the chick/baby/garglet
EVen though that 10 year thing makes me shake my head
To myself: and on the # of egs in their life is 3 or 4 tops... which still is a little low for a viable species

hey yall...
wow i missed the countdown and all of monday. hmm good job to me. *smacks forehead*
i hadnt thought about the eggs being flexable like that. that would make a bit more since than trying to pass the egg full sized trugh the...area... and i know nothing about kiwis. although the eggs would have to be more or less solid and less flexable...dunno snake and turtle eggs are flexable and more like leather than egg. it is possible that they are flexable in the begining and then harden up in a few days or hours even. ((sorry i liked ur comment but i forgot ur name)))
well thats all for now

Kathy > The lenght of time between mating and laying has always struck me as odd, too. The size thing has never really bothered me, though. Nature is anything but consistent on that aspect. Just look at the size of the egg the kiwi lays in proportion to its own body mass.
So if everybody brought a plastic egg, then what? We could pelt Greg with them at opening ceremonies? :P
Sing along now, everybody.

Christine > Yep. His name is Deacon, 'cause I found him across the street at the church testifying. <g> Actually, he was yowling for his mama who had evidently taken her kittens on an outing and forgotten to count and make sure she had them all when it was time to go home. I don't think I've ever heard such a tiny (he's was about 4 weeks old) cat make such a noise. I'm not sure I'm keeping him we've already got a dozen cats, but the question is tabled until he's old enough to place into a new home.
Another thing that's always bugged me about the egg thing. The size. The idea that a gargoyle would go through the equivalent of pregnancy and labor and then lay an egg is silly. I dunno, the whole thing is both upside down and backwards no matter how you look at it.
Oh! Egg prank. A thought. It's close enough to Easter still that the Dollar and other discount stores would probably still have plastic eggs. If everybody brought a plastic egg...
The Gathering. It's like "ASK GREG" without the two year wait.
