Good Monday,

I had a thought I thought I'd toss out. It may create mroe work for the TGS web guru, but is there any thought to have a review page. Where people can post their reviews of certain episodes? True, the comment room is a great forum, but it seems only recently posted stories get any play. Many who are only know beginning the series miss out if a story was posted years ago.

Any thoughts?

Fire Storm> <<only because I have no experience with Pratchett>>: Shame.
<<Fill tennis balls with explosives and then fire>>: That'd take a bit of work to make sure they don't get jarred enough while firing.
<<That is NO excuse!>>: It's an excuse, it may not be a good one, but it's still an excuse.
<<Details, details>>: But it still explains why Ron Jeremy is a great man.
<<If it involves porn, the it is always all right>>: See above.
<<Portability>>: I don't generally think of image editing as something a person on the go would be doing.

Gunjack> <<That's harsh, man... Funny, but harsh>>: But temporary. He said he cut along one of the creases in her neck, so it probably won't be noticeable when it heals.
<<Maybe we can get that Ripley woman to ice him?>>: Is she really that good at icing? I always thought she worked exothermically.
<<Despair 1, Lust 0. I'm just lucky that way, I guess>>: But you forget, this is the internet, so lust has already pretty much won the game elsewhere.
<<Curiousity drove the cat into gibbering, non-euclidian insanity>>: Euclidian insanity is just as fun.
<<If by "hitler-type" you mean machiavellian, ruthless, brutal, and devoured by ambition>>: I meant more conquering and blaming one group for all the evils of the world. The rest doesn't necessarially mean military action.
<<might balanced out the power a little>>: I don't think it would've balanced it, but just tipped it to the other side.
<<I doubt this sissy Pratchett guy could match Jack's amazing powers of depression>>: He had the Death of Rats experimentally prove the malignance of the universe. And pretty much once every witch book, Granny Weatherwax pulls a good one (usually about her dealings with Death while on her job as a midwife).
<<today I'm switching to clockwork monstrosities>>: Steampunk?

Gside><<So now she looks vaguely like a cross between Frankenstein's monster and the office lady from Beetlejuice.>> That's harsh, man... Funny, but harsh. <<Fine then, right down the line of symmetry.>> Sold! But now he's moving again... Maybe we can get that Ripley woman to ice him? <<Did he used to be on slipshine?>> Dunno. I only saw a copy, but I think it mighta beena dead-tree submission or sommat... <<I'd prefer it if I could get the porn for free, while you'd pay for the depressing stuff.>> Despair 1, Lust 0. I'm just lucky that way, I guess...
<<You may be personally upbeat, but you are not politically or globally upbeat.>> Depends on your definition of upbeat and optimistic. I'm 100% certian that some day, sooner or later, the wheel will roll 'round, and justice will have its day. What a day it'll be, too...
<<Wise choice, not to ask.>> Curiousity drove the cat into gibbering, non-euclidian insanity. <<But if they won, they'd probably enforce the debt the other way around, and a Hitler type figure might have arrisen in England instead.>> If by "hitler-type" you mean machiavellian, ruthless, brutal, and devoured by ambition, then All the major players had one of those anyway. Churchill and Roosevelt didn't have death camps and crematoriums, but they weren't afraid to murder a few hundred thousand to make a point. Germany establishing itself as a serious power in Europe, and Mexico cutting the US down to size on this continent, might balanced out the power a little, and maybe prevented some of the horror of WWII... Or maybe it'd have made it that much easier for the chinese and russians to wipe out EVERYONE... *Shrugs*
<<Nope, you also have to assume a specific radius, too.>> I did. 0.30-Inch diameter.

FS><<Jack, only because I have no experience with Pratchett>> Me neither, but I doubt this sissy Pratchett guy could match Jack's amazing powers of depression... <<Fill tennis balls with explosives and then fire!>> That too.
<<In the application (steam engine part), it stored energy in it's mass to smooth out the power curve in a steam engine.>> Steam engine as in Train, or steam engine as industrial powerplant? in either case, Wow.
<<...Oh dear lord... and people regularly read this?>> You say that like it's a bad thing. Yeah, Independent media in general are doing quite well lately, mostly because people like their news uncensored. I get all my news from www.whatreallyhappened.com, and I heard about Abu Ghriab back when mentioning "US Soldiers" and "War crimes" in the same sentence was still considered treasonous.

If your incredulity was toward that SPECIFIC story, though, I'm curious. relying on the random AIDS facts I've picked up along the way, it sounded pretty accurate in its particulars...

Had enough of the cute asians last night, so today I'm switching to clockwork monstrosities. Good times, this.

Firestorm: (Plastic wrap) hehe. My crazy roommate when I lived in Chicago was from Waukesha. I knew there was something not right about that place.
On another note, we had a thing for saran wrapping the opposing team's school bus during homecoming football games in high school. Saran wrap is fun. My HS best pal and I had a saran wrap war where we would break into each others lockers and wrap all the stuff (the books seperately and individually) and then each others cars. We wasted alot of wrap. ahhhh. The good old memories.....
But it still proves it: Waukesha is one F***** up place. :D

Tharos><<At least older bands like Bad Religion have ideals.>> Heck ya! <<The only part that I disagree with is that those ideals include not knowing how to play your instruments.>> ZING! Actually, From the songs I've heard, they play pretty well. And sing well too. Los Angeles is Burning rocks my world. Now if ya wanna hear someone sing bad, get "something vague", by bright eyes... 'e's got a kinda bob dylan thing going on.
<<All that will do is jack up CD prices and get the band NO money.>> Me, I never have and never will buy music. Back before napster, I taped my tunes off the radio, and now I do the Kazaa thing... But artists or no artists, the record companies aren't getting a DIME off me. Now, artists might be a different story, and the smart ones should be tossing the labels and going online.

Gside - Yer mom was sick? o.O ...Whatsa deal?
<<I'll take the top half, you take the bottom.>> F U, Mon Capitan! The top half has all the yummy brains and innards, and the bottom half has the weebly bits and the excreetors! I wants da BRAAAAIIIIIINNNSSS!!!!

It's upbeat and about persistance.>> One of my favorites is "Mary Ellen Carter", which is about both Upbeating and persistosity. Heck, *I* am upbeat, and definately persistant.
Like second-gen nerve gas.
<<With tentacles.>> Where would they... um, never mind. << It wasn't really defeating Germany that made Hitler, it was the post war debt.>> No Versailes, no debt, yes? Winners rarely have meaningful debts, as they've often shot their creditors.
<<But there's still a minimum size you want, otherwise it won't be able to hold enough energy.>> Well, assuming a steel sphere, there's only one weight it CAN have. just gotta figure out what it is.
<<Lots of yak butter>> Ewww.
<<So you think mechanical voting machines were a bad idea?>> Yeah, Kinda. Anything that sacrificesintegrity for convinience seems like a bad plan to me.

I'm probably voting for Nader, j8ust cause he's the front-runner third-party man, and I want him to break through into federal funding this time... But as for people to actually clean up all this mess... There ain't many options.

Josh: <<If you're really concerned about the bands getting money, you'd send them cash directly instead of buying their music in stores. The average band's cut of an album is on the order of 5-10% (about a buck or two), and of course their contract stipulates that they must pay back the record company for the studio time, which runs $10,000 an hour or something rediculous. Artists don't make any real money until their albums go silly-platinum and they start doing 2nd and 3rd albums.>>
Actually it's even worse than you described - check out http://www.vai.com/AllAboutSteve/postcard_040220.html
And studio time isn't that expensive anymore. Many artists produce their own albums thanks to the leaps and bounds in digital recording software. And even if they go to a studio, $300 per day is more like it - and the process is much quicker and involves few perople than back in the days of analogue.

And, by the way, I bought Symphony X's full catalogue direct from their website, with ONE middle man, who happens to be a hell of a nice guy.

My question is: If the bands get very little money from each album sold in the first place, how does NOT BUYING IT AT ALL help this situation? All that will do is jack up CD prices and get the band NO money.

<<Perhaps you could explain to me how much money disney lost this year because of people making DVD's of gargoyles episodes? Oh right. None. Because disney doesn't sell their own DVD's of gargoyles episodes. When they do, that might be a different story.>>
Yeah, very different story. When the series is released on DVD later this year, Disney will lose money because a bunch of people will already have bootlegs of the series. And whoever SOLD the bootlegs just made money from work that they had no part in. That's what bothers me - not so much the loss to Disney, but the gain for some random bootlegger. And the loss to the fandom when the DVD sales don't do as well, which means we run the risk of season 2 never being put on DVD.

Well, I'm out for a week. Later, guys. And I'm NOT trying to start a flame war or anything, hope I didn't come off as being angry, this is just something I'm kinda passionate about, especially with the music.

Patrick: theft and copyright infringement are not the same thing, it is only media empires who would have you believe that (of course, the $150,000 fine per song shared is probably as painful as prison rape...). This argument has been done to death and is always flawed.

Theft (dictionary.com): To constitute theft there must be a taking without the owner's consent, and it must be unlawful or felonious; every part of the property stolen must be removed, however slightly, from its former position; and it must be, at least momentarily, in the complete possession of the thief.

Perhaps you could explain to me how much money disney lost this year because of people making DVD's of gargoyles episodes? Oh right. None. Because disney doesn't sell their own DVD's of gargoyles episodes. When they do, that might be a different story. And what does Disney lose when I sell a set of digital files of gargoyles episodes? Do they lose their originals? Uh...no. Now if I broke into their vault and made off with the original reels, that would be theft.

By the way, my car is at my house.

Unless this guy is gouging for it, I really don't see a problem. He probably put time and effort into making this thing, you're saying that's not worth a few bucks? Besides, no one is forcing you to buy it. Now, all that said, if Disney actually puts out their own version (which is supposed to be "real soon now" for the last 5 years), it would be a better idea to buy that.

Fire Storm: How about if I buy a CD-R and have you put some MP3's on it? Is that okay? I pay for access to such files, not the files themselves. Convenient, high speed, wide selection, etc. Is that okay?

Tharos: If you're really concerned about the bands getting money, you'd send them cash directly instead of buying their music in stores. On the filesharing issue: To tell you the truth, I used to be all for it, especially with MP3s. That is, until I got into a lot of bands who really do need the money. People in America bitch and bitch about these bands never touring around here... because the record labels don't know the bands have an American fanbase because people download the songs instead of buying the CDs. And when spectacular bands like Symphony X have to give lessons on the side because being in the band doesn't provide them with enough money, it makes my blood boil!

This may be my last post for a while. Tomorrow evening I leave for a week-long workshop on Audio Recording, then I'm home for two days only to go back for a week-long Guitar/Bass workshop. These had better rock, or I'll have wasted two weeks of Summer.

I'll try to get online somehow while I'm there - can't miss two weeks of CR action! Later, guys.

Here's how I stand on the whole ethical issue:

I don't see a problem with recording a show and distributing it for free. Selling it at the cost of the media... I am a bit shaky on welcoming that.

Charging for it? NO. Just flat out NO.

(Which explains my thoughts on WAREZ and MP3s. I won't pay for them, but I am willing to share with friends/family)

He had no part in making the series, and he's making a profit from other people's work. Bootlegging is one thing - tape the series and enjoy it. But selling it? That's another story.

Congrats, Patrick. You have devolved from wonder-twin to full-blown schill of the media industry. Assuming the offer is valid, there's nothing counterfeit about Adrian's offer. It is exactly what he's promising, a DVD of episodes compiled painstakingly from either cable or dish. The price will reflect the quality of the episodes, effort put into making DVD features, and cost of media. He's not promising the disney release. So stuff it. Go get a job sucking off Jack Valenti and Hilary Rosen.

Yes, bootlegging is illegal. But you make it sound like some sort of ethical issue, like people who are tired of waiting 10 years for a DVD are evil terrorists for making their own. The only ethical issue is the treatment of bootleggers by the media industries, who want to throw people like Adrian in jail next to drug dealers and rapists. You don't want it, don't buy it. People who care about quality will pay for it and wait for the real thing. If you really think that copyright infringement is the reason Gargoyles took this long to come to DVD, you are sorely mistaken.

Miss it dearly, I do. <<I laugh every time I think of a dumbass Newfie fisherman lighting a Canada flag.>> Heh... I remember watching some Quebecuois(sp) burning flags on "22 Minutes"... Only, in good canadian fashion, the flag refused to become inflamed. Sorriest flag-burning I ever saw.
<<They frigging annoy me. *eye and lip twitching*>> Hey, don't blow a gasket. Just listen to some Ozzy or Bright Eyes or sommat.

<<There's always the off chance that we could have wiped them out easily, and gone in a lot more experienced.>> Worht the gamble, and if it'd worked, we might have been spared Hitler.
<<But I did already use only 50.>> Yeah... it might be half that, or maybe even less. A conical has a LOT more volume than a sphere... Dunno, though. Suffice to say, I've got no clue how the power requirements work.
<<Patience and a very strong axle. As long as you don't accelerate it too much at any one time, it should be able to get there.>> I'd think friction would be a real problem wherever the spinning parts meet up with the parts that hold them up...

<<But of course, then you'd go on about what assurances you have that what you think is inside is what's really inside.>> What can I say? I don't trust the people in power. Not now, not ever. Electronic Voting is being pushed in the name of "efficiency". I don't want efficient. I want maximum resistence to fraud, and I want accuracy. Hard-copy proof is also nice, persuant to points one and two. The current system is resistant to national-scale vote-fraud, if only because so many different people have their hands in so many different parts of the process that it'd be impossible to buy them all. But a computer program, written by a private corperation, with no hardcopy backup, no ability to inspect the code, and no available avenue to question the results... That doesn't sound so nice to me.
<<And don't you want the person you're voting for be be strong enough to call foul?>> I used to. I still would, if I thought such a person existed.
Back in the 90s, the FBI gassed, shot, and burned to death 80 men, women, and children in Waco, Texas. Then they destroyed or hid all the evidence, and claimed they'd had nothing to do with it. Seven years later, the coverup fell apart, multiple senior FBI personelle got caught lying to and hiding evidence from Congress, lying to the Attorney General, and falsifying testimony in court for the better part of a decade. And the judicial, legislative, and executive branches worked TOGETHER to bury the whole thing again.
None of that is supposition or theories; it's court records and internal memoes. It was all done right out in public. Not to sound like a crazy, but after that waltz, why should I ever trust anyone in government ever again?

I liked Great Big Sea a lot way back in the day, but then again, I first heard of them when they first came out. (Just as soon as "Up" was released). They were the ones that got me back into the music of the East Coast (I'd been infected with American pop-crap before that) and for a while they were at the vanguard of a movement that made the music of my home region pretty cool. And when I found out that there was a thriving rock scene here in Halifax...well!!!

Nowadays, Great Big Sea has sort of lost its lustre. They've jumped the shark a bit, in that one of the musicians has left, and their newest album, while having a few catchy tunes to it (When I Am King is great, and the stuff written by Gordie Sampson is good, but come on, it's Gordie Sampson) is pretty average. Nothing like the magic that a very impressionable 15 year old felt way back in 1996.

BUT...I live in Halifax. And that means that all of the cool bands come here now. I'm into more of a rock/folk groove than traditional Celtic, these days, so if there is a new Great Big Sea out there I probably won't hear them first. At the same time, the bassist for the Super Friendz (a Halifax rock group that was as big as Sloan back in the day) is in my medical school class, and he knows all the cool kids, so I can go hear them any time I want.

Here's the list of bands I'm into lately...

1. THE JOEL PLASKETT EMERGENCY - Great rock band from Halifax/Dartmouth, with a lot of old-style, easy-going rock music that's just effing perfect for road trips.

2. THE TREWS - Another local group that is getting a lot of attention. Sort of radio-friendly, and their song "I'm Not Ready To Go" got co-opted as a hockey anthem, but still, a lot of good stuff.

3. MATT MAYS - With his band El Torpedo, this kid from Dartmouth could be one of the best songwriters out there, taking the mantle form people like Sam Roberts. Not many people could write a love song about Dartmouth (City of Lakes) and make it actually work.

4. ROSE COUSINS - Haven't got any of her CD's, but I saw her play live at the Khyber Club a few weeks ago. Folky singer/songwriter who absolutely blows you away with her gentle but unflinching honesty when she sings. She's also from PEI, so that gives her points for being from my home province.

5. BUCK 65 - This is hip-hop for artists. He uses the form of hip-hop to tell stories about people and characters, and he does it with none of the pretence and "bling" of the so-called artists who prattle on radio. Not bad for a white kid from Mount Uniacke.

6. THE WEAKERTHANS - Not from around here, but still Canadian; quirky rock, but honest and often disarming. Anyone with a cat will love "Plea From a Cat Named Virtue"; anyone from a small town (not necessarily Winnipeg) will feel the truth of "One Great Town!"

7. THE SUPER FRIENDZ - They don't make music anymore though they get together for the odd reuinion. They know how to party, one of 'em is in my class, and when they get together pretty much everyone in Halifax comes out to see them. Rockin'.

8. THE JIMMY SWIFT BAND - You kind of have to see them live to get the full experience, though they do have a CD out. They have the best drummer in all of HRM, if not Canada, and their music absolutely surrounds you and makes you lose yourself in you. I swear to God I was hypnotized when I heard them last.

9. GORDIE SAMPSON/BRUCE GUTHRO - I throw them together not because they collaborate, but because they show together what singer/songwriters can do. Bruce not only makes excellent music but is also an astonishing teacher, and chances are that if you haven't heard Gordie sing then you've heard one of the songs he's written. If you listen to East Coast music, I suppose.

10. This isn;t a band, but the ATLANTIC JAZZ FESTIVAL is going on right now. I caught five minutes of the jazz street parade on Spring Garden road and that was enough to hook me.

So yeah, check out more than Great Big Sea. East Coast music is just one more reason to add to the list of why "Gargoyles" should have been set in Halifax instead of New York. :-)

Dezi > Ah-ha! So YOU'RE the one who's hoarding them! ;)

I've got five tupperware bowls full of coins in the drawer at home... I should really count them before the Gathering to see how much spending money I have. And on the subject of coins... has anyone seen any of those Sacagawea gold dollars recently? I have ONE that I got ahold of when they first came out. I heard you can take it to the bank and exchange it for a real dollar... but it's shiny so I think I'll keep it for now. ;)

7 days left to reserve your hotel room at the Delta Centre-Ville (deadline is July 20 at noon).
7 days left to pre-register for The Gathering 2004 (deadline is July 20).
23 days left until The Gathering 2004 in Montreal, Quebec!

Oh I'm sorry I forgot to answer that. Newfoundland traditional songs...too big of a list but one of them is Cape St Mary's or Ise Bye. Umm...the ones I like are one that are sung without music. I forget the title. I find other songs like that are superior to the 'pop' GBA.

>>Nope, not kidding. [Besides they are from the eastern Newfoundland…] so, this is one of those east coast/west coast things, where you have to hate them if they aren't from your hood? I always thought that was a sort of silly thing. ; ) And they could be 300 pound hermaphrodites, all with a "Flock Of Seagulls" haircut and only one nostril, and I would still enjoy their music. A little mascara is hardly off-putting to one who has a close friend or two in the lighter edges of the goth scene. <<

Haha! Ah Lynati, let me explain. In Newfoundland history, the east coast were mainly merchants from Britian and the west cast was mainly Irish and fisherman who worked their asses off – the west got screwed over with the east. I find it very silly about having grudges for east but I meant that part to be a inside joke. Very good argument but I insist they still annoy me and I don’t find their singing appealing.

<<That depends on how public you get about it>>: If it's made by a private company, I'm sure they'd let people know.
<<Naw, good song. Real good>>: I might be, but you're still passing up a good filk opportunity.
<<What makes you think they're EVER ellected rationally?>>: Nothing much, just that it's a nice option.
<<that's no excuse for fuggering with the shreds of Soveriegnty we have left>>: As long as it happens before whoever's four years are up, the actual date of the election shouldn't be that important. Though as things are, with congress determining the day of elections, there'd no way they'd agree to move it fast enough and there's no way an amendment is getting made about it.
<<You wouldn't think so, wouldja? But judging from the problems they're having right now in the test-ground states>>: That's probably because they're trying to use already designed all purpose components that can do more than be absolutely stupid.
<<YOU are not. POLITICIANS are>>: And don't you want the person you're voting for be be strong enough to call foul?
<<Call me EXTRA paranoid>>: My point was more that with a secure enough box, it doesn't matter if everyone knows what's inside. But of course, then you'd go on about what assurances you have that what you think is inside is what's really inside. But then, how do you know that mechanical voting machines (which lots of people like to use) are what they say they are?
<<True Nuff. Perverts are wierd>>: Yes, I am, aren't I?
<<That would be because I am a moron>>: Can I borrow ten bucks? No, wait that's for memory, not intelligence. Can you change two tens for a five?
<<In that case, they definately should have gone for it>>: There's always the off chance that we could have wiped them out easily, and gone in a lot more experienced.
<<The 55-grain weight might be excessive, but not enough to account for the size of the difference>>: I don't know, the table gives energy needed per grain, so there's a multiplication in there. But I did already use only 50.
<<Howdja get the conversion from joules of energy in the projectile to watts required to impart that energy?>>: Watts is Joules per second. So I already had Joules per bullet, and bullets fired per minute, so multiplying those cancels out the bullets giving you Joules per minute, and multiply by 60 to get that in seconds.
<<I'm assuming this thing spins up large amounts of ammo at all times>>: But it's also firing out large amounts of ammo at all times, so it's debatable how much is on the wheel at any one time (can't be more than circumference of the wheel divided by the radius of the bullet).
<<A flywheel is just a disc that stores energy by spinning REALLY FAST, right?>>: Not so much. It stores energy by being something that's really heavy that spins rather fast. The equation for rotational energy is Er=0.5Iw^2, where I is moment of inertia (a spinning donut of stores more energy than a shpere of the same mass because more of it is farther out), and w (actually omega) is angular velocity (that's in radians per second).
<<How'd they get something that big to spin that fast?>>: Patience and a very strong axle. As long as you don't accelerate it too much at any one time, it should be able to get there.
<<And how do they impart energy to it?>>: Gears somewhere.

<<Or four.>> Where'd you guys get the power requirements, anyway? I looked the other night, but couldn't find it... In any case, my estimate of weight might be rather off, but wouldn't think by enough to make a difference... We'll see, I guess...
<<How long from the first practical one until we get a redefinition?>> That depends on how public you get about it.
<<If you just dump them on a flat spinning plate, there's nothing really to stop them from just spinning in place.>> I'm pretty out of my depth here... but what if the plate ain't flat? But yeah, I'm thinking it's the compartmentalized one... Again, we'll see, but if this thing can generate the rates of fire it listed with appreciable velocity and range, these'll be everywhere.
<< Shame.>> Naw, good song. Real good. << I think you think too highly of the people.>> Maybe so, but it's their choice whether or not to vote, not the Government's. <<Maybe not, but don't we want our officials elected under largely rational decisions?>> What makes you think they're EVER ellected rationally? I mean, heck, if you want RATIONALITY, I'm all for it. You grab Karl Rove, I'll grab James Carville, and then we lop their heads off in the nearest soccer stadium and declare a Crusade on Pundintry and Spin. The systematic destruction of rationality is probably the largest industry in America today, but that's no excuse for fuggering with the shreds of Soveriegnty we have left...
<<There's no way the program should be complex enough that such fraud wouldn't be blatantly obvious.>> *shrugs* You wouldn't think so, wouldja? But judging from the problems they're having right now in the test-ground states...
<<Are't you allowed to check current systems for tampering if the result is caused into question?>> No, YOU are not. POLITICIANS are, and after Florida 2000, I don't trust them much anymore.
<<The entire machine should be secure enough that worries about the security of the code shouldn't be necessary.>> Call me EXTRA paranoid, but the company that writes that code is going to be hired by either a republican or a democrat, and the only assurance of honesty I have is the democrat or republican looking over his shoulder. Since I don't really see a difference between the two parties, that isn't much assurance.
If electronic voting existed the way YOU describe it, I wouldn't mind. But from what I've heard, it doesn't.
<< It's the Vixen Controled Library.>> Noted.
<<It's just once you get over the furry thing, a lot of weird kinks aren't far away.>> True Nuff. Perverts are wierd.
<<Nope, and my searches for it are being blocked by E.A. Poe and Michael Poe (when I specify comics).>> That would be because I am a moron.
<<Wait for her to be gone a bit longer, then we'll see how desperate you get for your porn.>> Too many replies, too many possibilities. Too many, all wrong.
<<Probably not.>> I dunno, it might be worth it. Total immunity to visceral horror might be rather liberating, and it wouldn't be too hard to achieve. On the other hand, it might twist yer brain so hard that you start killing people for fun. So there's that.
<<I, so we're talking the Kaiser here.>> In that case, they definately should have gone for it.
<<Well, they'd probably not have to pay as much for hazard pay and tool replacement and repair.>> More money for urban renewal downtown. Not to mention that I don't think police budgets would be impacted that much by crime rate fluctuation. They patrol the same amount whether they're in a crime wave or a drought...
<<Then trduce it by a factor of 24 for the lowest value, and it's still 100,000Watts.>> Mmm. No answer for ya, 'mano. The 55-grain weight might be excessive, but not enough to account for the size of the difference. Howdja get the conversion from joules of energy in the projectile to watts required to impart that energy?
<<They can't weigh that much compared to the wheel.>> Composite rotor, loaded with a whole pile of steel shot? I'm assuming this thing spins up large amounts of ammo at all times...
<< But wouldn't you want to be able to remove it for whatever emergency might come up?>> Nope. Too heavy/unwieldy to make it worthwhile. Like most support weapons, it really isn't supposed to be "mobile", in the tactical sense. On the ground, the ammunition and batteries would be prohibitively heavy. The minigun suffers from the same problem; it's light enough to carry, but the ammo isn't.

FS><<Na, they would compound the problem. Each bullet would slow down the disk, and 10 in a milisecond would cause a very noticeable slowdown.>> Even if there's say, a thousand more in the rotor still spinning? <<Well, the "shrapnel" from this was several large fragments from this 20-30 foot diameter flywheel, so the answer is... yes! The way it failed basically made it explode.>> That would be about the coolest thing in the whole world to watch... Dang.
Okay, here's a question. A flywheel is just a disc that stores energy by spinning REALLY FAST, right? How'd they get something that big to spin that fast? What'd they mount it on, I mean? And how do they impart energy to it?

I always thought that was a sort of silly thing. ; ) And they could be 300 pound hermaphrodites, all with a "Flock Of Seagulls" haircut and only one nostril, and I would still enjoy their music. A little mascara is hardly off-putting to one who has a close friend or two in the lighter edges of the goth scene.
