Lyanti - <Has anyone seen the TGS Edit Staff? I've heard rumors the Dreamer clan left it somewhere in the CR... > My sources had indicated that TGS Edits Staff was . . . beyond being an endangered species and had reached the point of extinction. There are unconfirmed stories that this species still exists, but generally those sources are delirious at best, completely hallunicating at worst, or is the other way around?

HoE> <<Hey, what can I say? Like my favorite gargoyle, I'm a veeeery slow learner.>> Yep, and with the Iraq war and mention of stoner Sadr, I could say you stepped into some deep Shi'ite :)

Vinnie> <<Actually Washington was very religious, more so then President W. Bush even. And Native Americans like the Iroqouis him 'the Town Burner'. So are you sure Sadr isn't an Iraqi George Washington in the making?>> Interesting info on the George W most Americans like.

The Iriquos were allies of the English, so they wouldn't like him too much, but I can believe he did some awful things back in his days as Colonel in the French and Indian War and even in the American Revolution (and they demanded independence over paying six weeks of their annual salary in taxes..man I wish I only had to pay that much to Uncle Sam).

I still see Sadr more like Pol Pot or Robespierre, but that is all a matter of opinion, and I would never speak well of the insurgent gangsters or their solidariats in any event.

Greg X> <<R.I.P. Saruman>> Yeah, the IDF totaled him with those missiles...oh wait, wrong robed villain :)

Dezi> <<I miss Josh. He's funny.>> He was, and so were SJ, Doug, Wilek, Jessie Feff, and even Pistoff, if he'd lighten up over stuff. I also miss Starsinger.

Gunjack> <<Independent sources often have both, while major media outlets (at least in the states) rarely have either. >> Some of those indie sources scare me a bit. Now, Ayn Rand Institute and stuff that links to free market.net are my kind of indy sources, and they have conflicting views (except for being strident capitalists and individualists) and are not in some lockstep unwashed solidarity.

<<Dunno if I agree about the greatness of Washington, but you get the idea. The people of Iraq believe in him.>> I won't argue that as people agreed with the Khmer Rouge and the Jacobins. I do hope for iraq's sake that Sadr is a washinton or that it is a rehash of Vietnam, cosndiering how relations are with Vietnam now. I'll gladly buy products from Vietnam, including catfish, and I oppose all protectionist measures aimed to defend uncompetitive American catfish farmers.

I also support abolishing all agricultural subisdies (for US farmers) and whenever we utilize food aid to a distressed nation, we shoudl buy from indigenous farmers at world market prices (or below if they sell for less), but that is a bit off topic.

<<Oh, I don't know. How many oil for food protests have there been in the streets? Which do you think the average Iraqi is more upset about; the UN oil-for-food scandal, or Abu Ghriab?>> Well, the US is more actively harming while the UN wa smore passively screwing them. I just see that a UN oversight will send a bad message. Bush's actions are not excused by Kofi's corruption, and Kofi sure as Hell isn't exonarted due to Bush...in fact Bush has stated support for Annan. Meanwhile his VA Secretary has resigned, now if only Rumsfeld would.

<<Nope, don't buy it. The arguement that the occupation has been a net Positive for the iraqi people, even in the most detatched, pragmatic terms, doesn't stand up to the evidence I've been seeing.>> I'm not selling any argument, just stating that we could be a lot better and we'd still be in the wrong as we need to be a hell of a lot better than we are right now. I stil stand by my original beliefs and I think this woudl eventually happen whether now or 20 years later or 50 years after Sadaam and his Marquis DeSade (another French Enlightenment philosopher freed by their disgusting Revolution) type sons were done with Iraq..and maybe my specualtion is completely off. I didn't vote for Bush ever and I in fact voted for an anti-war candidate. Right now, I'm conflicted (Andrew Sullivan sums up my views a good bit, but not completely as I refuse to ever see eye to eye with anyone). The Gung-Ho hawks are in denial and the otehr side that was merely advancing the status quo has nothing i wish to break bread with either.

<<What the heck's a "juicy girl"? o.O ...Wierd name for a hoochiemama, I guess. And yeah, public centers of intoxication are creepy.>> I do enjoy occasional ration free liquers and Christian Brothers with egg nog (like a tenth of brandy and the rest being egg nog), but I don't care for bars or clubs. At least no one below the rank of Sergeant First Class can drive in Korea (with some exceptions), and in Germany one beer puts you over the limit, so now to deal with the states (all in favor of draconian punishments for duis say aye).

Juciy girls refers to the fact that you pay $7.00 to have a drink with them and ten minutes of talk..soem are prostitutes an dsome are company for deseprate sodliers in areas with few female soldiers. Korea also 4x as many men as women puttinga demand on juciy girls. Now if I want a prostitute, I can buy some condoms from the PX and take a four day weekend in Phillippines where you can get it cheap (it was only $70 bucks for an hour in Bulgaria and the massage girl was half that) and Phillippines is even cheaper than Bulgaria, as are Indonesia and Thailand.

<<I was down with Dean. Pissed me off pretty bad when the "liberally-biased media" bushwhacked his campaign.>>

Kerry was more liberal than Dean, and I foudn Dean funny, though I differ with him completely on that healthcare thing, but Congress would keep those nutty ideas in check. Dean was pretty good as Governor of Vermont, though hopefully he wouldn't put some scuzzo liek Greg Craig or Ramsey Clark on the Supreme Court..well Senate woudl check that and hoepfully he'd appoint another Beyer or Byron White..or another Felix Frankfurter.

<<Check what's happening to the Dollar right now. It would be very nearly impossible to do worse by the economy than has already been done.>>
Carterite inflation and malaise come to mind though Jimmah seems even dumber as an ex-pres (but good at simple stuff like building houses). The lower dollar value is not as bad as it seems.

A) The dollar has dropped relative to the won..I get more money due to that :)

B) European companies like Siemens outsource to America (like their plant in South Carolina). American labor is cheaper for them (even overpaid union goombas), so they could increase hirings and help more Americans.

C) American exports are cheaper in many nations due to currency shift, plus purchases mean more money for those companies as the conversion makes for more dollars than before.

Now I just wished I invested in the euro right now.

<<I'd rather listen to the people I pay directly than to the people who are payed by the very interests I'm most worried about.>> I see your point, but I will still distrust any news given by a Government agent....shows like McLoughlin or good comedy I will watch, and I'll listen to NPR's music and PBS or CBC operas, as well as Rick Merecer's segment if i can see it :)

<<Look at the allegations against Kofi Annan, and then look at any ONE of the US Government's contacts with Saddam Hussien.>> Both are dead worng for that. Too bad Vaclav Havel, Lech Valesa, and Violetta Chomorro can't create a firm for international oversight with a private sector touch.

<<I was going to reply to this, but it's not really worth it. The defensive nationalist mentality that seems to be evident in your statement disturbs me.>> I remember Lain saying that the US should focus on their own problems before intervening elsewhere...his statement seems to be in the same spirit.

Not that I agree with Patrick's view, though. Christian Solidarity International (despite that name) is a great organziation that ransomes enslaved chidlren in the Sudan and worthy of a donation from me. It's also based out of Switzerland.

DPH> <<But you're right, the money we gave to fight AIDS in Africa isn't really about humanitarian aid, it's about bribery of certain governments and a means of trying to shut up the bleeding part liberals.>> Just check on charities and where the money goes. If you wnat to donate to anything, research is always important. There's no reason you can't get the most for your dollar when you're donating, is there?

Even on charity I take an investor mentality.

Gargoyles DVD> If I was in New Orleans, I'd take a bus to the new Walmart on Tchopitoulas (it is built on the ruins of a housing project so no complaints from me) to buy it, but I ordered it on Amazon with some other stuff including a book by blogger James Lileks bashing 70s interior decorating.

Now Target won't get much from me as they banned Salvation Army santas from their grounds..and while I am not that religious these days and not affiliated with the Salvation Army (beyond looking for clothes there and my mom getting good dresses with matching gloves from them), banning them is just a shitty thing to do. The SA does a good thing there and helps a lot of people. A real pity as Traget sells cheap underwear but so does Walmart :)

Tribun> I understand your pain, though instead I'd push for the Free Democrats to win big next Election leading to Germany becoming increasingly capitalist and thus leading to faster DVD sales in a more capitalist Europe, but that's too long term to affect the Gargoyles DVD :)

HoE> conservative media (and liberal and centrist media too) may try to hid Chomsky's Christmas specials but right-wing bloggers would buy bootlegged copies and fisk the hell out of it..they'd fisk it until it's as beaten up as Robert Fisk in an Afghan Refugee camp :)

and that's all folks :)

Just browsing the web when I came across this website... In a word, incredible! I was always a fan of Gargoyles, totally upset at its termination, but overwhelmingly encouraged that a fan-site of this caliber exists. Keep up the good work folks, I look forward to reading some episodes!

Gunjack> <<I'd imagine SHE still has a copy>>: As do I.
<<but damned if you're going to get it out of her>>: I didn't know if it had snuck out sometime and remained archived in some strange corner of the net.
<<It's a SER-KIT>>: Ah, you're building a bomb. Or maybe just a neat distortion box for whatever audio you'd want to distort.

Krista> <<They must all know like... everybody>>: I think the champ by now is Frank Welker, with 423 shows/movies and 82 guest appearances. And given how he tends to get multiple parts in addition to being "Additional Voices", he's probably done over a thousand roles by now.
<<my guess is that you'd have to copy and paste that link>>: Actually, for security reasons, the CR does not let anyone any html. In fact, it automatically translates command characters to just display the character. Hence why we get to use < and > willynilly without blocking out masses of text.

Funny how the subject of DVD reviews comes up. (well, not here, it was over at S8/gargoyles actually). I was just thinking we should add them over on The Strip our off-topic area at the Gathering of the Gargoyles Forum.

So why not? Leave your review, thoughts, comments and so on and encourage others to do the same!

Speaking of reviews: I picked up a copy of The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat - voiced by our own Thom Adcox. Hee-larious. My husband commented "I wonder what they were smoking when they came up with this show?"

If you haven't seen the show by all means check it out! We've got a link to it on Thom's Credits page.

And don't forget, early-bird registration prices end on December 31st.

After watchign the five episode comentaries I got the sense that Greg was having a good time and talking as much as he always loves to do, Frank enjoying the memories and trying to point out as much as he could technically, and that Kieth David had not seen the episods in a long time and was just watching them making the occassional comment.

the sound and color is better, especially if all you've had is old VHS copies that have faded over time from use.

Well, it's been very wet here the past two days, and I was out delivering pizza in both of them. Yesterday, it poured for four hours, and today, it was just very misty and drizzly. The last house I went to, I dropped off two large thin crusts. It was a Christmas Party, and the guy tipped me eight dollars because he was drunk. Score!

Anyhoo, with the ground being very wet from all the rain over the last two days, I tripped on a patch of mud and fell on the way back to my car, ruining my work pants. But I'd been tipped eight dollars, so I felt the two events evened each other out.

But anyway, I just got home from work with caked mud drying on my slacks, and what do I find? The UPS guy has been and gone, and he dropped off my Gargoyles DVD! So anyway, this officially makes the day, as a whole, rock. I'm putting my pants in the washing machine, then I'm cracking open a beer and watching "The Awakening" uncut.

damien: Indeed. I would go so far as to say that Greg Weisman has been the cartoon's silent partner since the early 90s. I didn't even know he was writing for Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go. Crazy.

I got excited when I first saw the name Batman in his credits, but some of that excitement fell when the date said 2003-2004. I guess that means he wasn't involved with the original Animated Series (although I know Michael Reaves, a writer for Gargoyles, was).

DPH: I sincerely hope we did. Two days ago, DemonaTaina informed me that the sales rank on Amazon.com for the DVD was down in the 400s at the start of the day. That evening, it had gone up in rank to 123, which I think is where it stayed until 12:00 AM Wednesday. I'd like to think we got their attention. Actions speak louder than words. And I'd say our actions on December 7th kicked ass. Now we need to find a way to pressure Steven Spielberg into putting "Freakazoid" on DVD.

Does anyone have the official MSRP on the Gargoyles DVD?

At Amazon.com, they were billing it as marked down from US$29.99 to US$20.99.

At Wal-mart, they had it on the rack for US$19.96. Knowing Wal-marts M.O. - that would indicate an MSRP of US$19.99.

Now someone here mentioned $25.00?

Bah, it doesn't matter that much to me, in the end. Got to get those Christmas presents into the mail. :)

Hmm. Did we get enough DVD sales to get the 2nd season released? Please tell me, yes.

I surived final exams . . 8am test = EXTREMELY bad idea, especially when the class normally meets at 10am.

I gotta do some re-vamping on dph's hologram - he probably won't like it. He needs an upgrade.

Sorry, I haven't gotten the chance to view the Gargoyles DVD I bought. (It was retailed at $25) Tuesday night, I had to go to my local water board about doing something about an upcoming $1400 water bill caused by a leak. That's the biggest one in my water district to date. Before that, it was $800 and before that it was $500. Trying to even go for an installment plan is ridiculous, because even at $50/month paying on it, it's still 28 months.

I've been eating supper with my brother, on the account that his wife is back in Louisana, so he doesn't get lonely or doesn't forget to eat. His job reading electric meters is getting stressfull because of the error rate.

I'm going to check my local Hastings soon to see if the DVDs cleared the shelf, despite the LACK of advertising. I understand this is a test, but still. It was put in the wrong department. (half of DBZ is located in Family/Children's area while the other half is located in Anime.) I swear if I find Cowboy Beboop DVD disc #6 available to rent, I'm going to grab as quick as possible. Heck, I'm tempted to send out a complaint about the lack of selection and the fact that that DVD is never available to rent should mean something.

Off to have incohorent thoughts . . . aka dreaming not normal stuff.

On my way back from my elective yesterday, driving along the Bedford Highway into Halifax, I noticed a familiar font out of the corner of my eye. So I turned my head (briefly! I was driving) to see that I wasn't crazy, that someone had posted a sign in their window using the Gargoyles title font.

So if you're ever in Bedford, Nova Scotia, driving along Highway 2, take a look out for "Doobie's Smoke Shop", and tell them you like their sign.

Wal-Mart might have had the DVD. I didn't go in there yesterday, but that's all I'll say, to avoid repeating the debate we all had a few months ago.

I actually went into my Best Buy last week. They had it on their website, but the lady told me it didn't look like they'd be receiving it. I don't know; maybe it wasn't on the New Releases rack. Maybe they had a table set up and I missed it. I nearly missed Aqua Teen Hunger Force Volume One that way.

*pokes head in*

I managed to find it at Best Buy, but I needed the help of one of the people working on the floor to do it. She checked the system and found that it was supposed to be relegated to the TV - Sci-Fi/Horror section (WTF?) but it wasn't there. I nearly gave up, but then she pointed out a table with some of the newest releases stacked that hadn't been put on shelves yet - and there it was! :)

It was nowhere to be found at Wal-Mart. But hey, I had a $2 gift card for Best Buy anyway.

I'm just so happy none of my interview got on the DVD. :)

Yeah, I also went to look for the DVD in stores today and it wasn't to be found. When is it suppose to be in stores, will it make it to wally world (have to go there, it's all we got out in the rural world), and is the store release any different on the west coast?

I think I'm going to go insane waiting for my copy becuse I can't get it online. It happens when you have no credit card and you live with your folks (i'm 18, not someone who can't function in society) and they go crazy when you have anything delivered to the house. But I'll get it by the end of December or somebody's going to get hurt when I vent for not having it...

Until then, the hunt continues, and I'll go back to lurking and watching for updates.

Hey, everyone...

I just watched the little "Gathering of the Gargoyles" documentary on the DVD. Very cool, and very nicely editted. They really did a great job of showing the fandom in a friendly, positive light. And in thinking about the whole fandom as family thing, I just want to publically give major kudos to Kathy, Zehra, Christine, Greg B., Aaron, Hudson, Riverdale, Whit and Stormy, Fan, Kanthara, and all the other people (I sort of lost count about halfway through) who provide such excellent commentary. Oh yeah, Greg Weisman and Keith David, too. ;)

I haven't watched any of the episodes yet, but from what I've seen of the menus and the clips during the documentary, I'm sure I'm going to be amazed by the crispness of images and the sound. I've never seen the playback look this clear and sharp before. Even without the extras, this DVD set would be well worth the money. I bet I'll never watch my first season VHS tapes from the Disney Afternoon again.

The DVD is up to #123. I don't know much about online shopping, but until someone corrects me, I'd say jumping up 11 spots in about six hours is pretty damn good.

Hi there.

Sorry if this is a repeat for anyone from Station 8, where I post on a semi-regular basis. I write articles for the animation website JimHillmedia.com. Being a Gargoyles fan, I really wanted to help promote the DVD release a little. So my current article is about the DVD coming out and the efforts of the fandom to help it sell. Click my name to check it out, and thanks for doings so.

Wow. All my local stores suck. I went to Suncoast, went to Best Buy, and then after I got off work I went to Border's. None of them have the DVD yet. So I just placed an order with Amazon. Hopefully, it will arrive on Friday.

Yggdrasil: I might answer this question for myself in a few minutes, but how do you check the sales rankings at amazon.com?

Concerning the DVD:

Is there any way to get out of the makers if they intend to also make a Code 2 DVD set for Europe? It would be damn unfair for the US to have the DVD, and us european fans not.
Since I have no clue how and where to ask, can one of you guys do it?

I just hope that they won't let us stay in the rain......

Patrick > It's a modest percentage, that increases to not half bad, depending on how much traffic we drive to Amazon. The good part is that it doesn't matter what you buy as long as you enter Amazon through one of our links.

I did all of my Christmas shopping there since I have to ship everything anyway and they've gotten to the point where it's a virtual mall. Thinking of ordering from Sees Candy, Hickory Farms, Harry and David, Target, JC Penney, Toys R Us etc, etc? Amazon reps them.

We probably won't get rich doing this, but if everyone participates we can make a difference that fans will see at the con.

Ah, yes. Ever since I learned about the upcoming DVD release, I've been telling anyone who will listen that December 7th, 2004 is a Day Which Will Not Live Forever in Infamy. I for one one will do what I can to see that that statement is justified.

By the way, does anyone know if an order has to placed anytime before midnight in order to count as being placed on December 7th? I plan on leaving for work early to swing by my local Best Buy, but if they don't have the DVD, my only other option is to order it from amazon.com with my check card.

...and we have liftoff of the Gargoyles Season 1 DVD. The spell is broken and they live again!!!

It's now December 7th here in the Eastern time zone, and there's really not much more I can say that's not going to be anticlimatic. You've seen Greg's comments. You've heard all the reasons why this is make it or break it time for the fandom. So let's get out there and buy those DVDs, and tell everyone you know to buy one, too!

P.S. - There are 234 days left until The Gathering 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada!

TOMORROW OR NEVER
Well, guys, tomorrow -- December 7th, 2004 -- is the big day. The GARGOYLES first season comes out on DVD.

I know I'm preaching to the converted, but I can't emphasize enough how important it is to the fandom that this DVD sells well.

Good sales on the first day, particularly a nice Amazon turnout, are important, but what's more important are PHENOMENAL SALES over the next month or two.

If you can't get it at Amazon, get it somewhere else.

If you can't get it tomorrow, get it soon.

But get it. And more than that get everyone you know to get it.

Get strangers to get it.

Yes, I know we're all a bit disappointed in the way Disney has somewhat failed to support the DVD with advertising. But as I've always maintained... the burden is on the fans. They need to prove to Disney that Disney needs to spend money to make money on Gargoyles.

They need to prove to Disney that the fandom is rabid and large and ready to support the property with actual dollars and cents.

A very small part of me feels bad about asking you to spend money. But keep in mind if this DVD doesn't do EXTREMELY well, it will be very difficult to convince Disney to support the property in other ways -- including a second season on DVD, let alone new and original material set in the Gargoyles Universe.

By the way, we did get a nice write-up here:

http://www.silverbulletcomicbooks.com/rage/index1.htm

Check it out.

But mostly, take advantage of this opportunity to demonstrate your love for the show. Again this is NOT just about money. This is about SPREADING THE WORD WITH RELIGIOUS FERVOR!!!

Good luck to us all.

- Greg Weisman

One day to go and boy are we excited over at G2005 HQ! Check out the website for all details, but here's a few quickie highlights:

The Tee Shirt Contest is now open! We're looking for a simple, yet bold design. So all you closet graphic artists - this is your chance to shine. March 1st is the deadline, so start sketching!

The Gathering Shop is Open!
This is the place to get great merchandise and support the Gathering! Right now we're featuring our puzzle "The Poker Party" which we can (postal service willing) promise December 23rd delivery if you purchase by December 9th.

We've also got music to put you in a ring a ding ding, holiday mood. "Christmas with the Rat Pack" featuring Frank, Dean and Sammy features holiday favorites with a Vegas beat.

And of course we can't forget tomorrow's the day to Spike Amazon with your purchase of "Gargoyles Season 1"!

Any purchase you make through a G2005 link goes to support the Gathering of the Gargoyles. So please think of us and click through the site before you get Mom that new waffle iron or Dad his subscription to SI at Amazon. Thanks!

We've opened up The Strip over on the Forum. A place to meet other Gathering-bound fans, to vacation plan, just shoot the breeze or get involved with one of our games like the new ROUND ROBIN or SCAVENGER HUNT hosted by our own Kelly Raptor. Come join in the fun!

And last, but certainly not least - get a preview of all the Gathering offers by taking a peak of our list of panels, seminars and activities. We're still looking for hosts and ideas, so if you'd like to get in on the act email us at staff@gargoyles-fans.org.

Whew! That's it for now. Only hours to go before the spell is broken and they live again!
