Damien: The other one is Station Eight (www.s8.org) well, follow the site, and you'll get there (dont have the link right now).

About the Gathering announcement: If Friday was the first, but the other days were weekends, why not make it be on Thursday (still a weekday) March 31st (not april fool's day)? Just suggesting... *shrugs*

BTW The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is the weird movie I've ever seen. Its REALLY REALLY weird, but, quite enjoyable. :)

The announcement will be made on April 1st because that day is a normal work day (a Friday), whereas the 2nd and 3rd are not. Weekends are bad for making announcements because by Monday they get lost in the shuffle for the people who do other things on the weekends.

That said... DPH, is there a reason you're being so snarky in both the CRs?

193 days left until The Gathering 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

[What's G2198? ] Gargoyles 2198 was one of Greg Weisman’s planned spin-offs, focused on the attack of the space-spawn in that year. http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/archives.php
Scroll down to the “Gargoyles 2198” link to see some anwsers to questions on this topic.

[Is there a mascott for this year already (I know you helped me with that, Lynati, but was one of the ones you sent me this year's? And, out of curiosity, houw did you get my email address? MGC?)] You posted your email here several posts prior to the one I finally responded to. I didn’t send one of this year’s mascot because I assumed you already had seen it; the main two that exist are both on the site where Kathy pointed you to. The one at the top of the page is by Siryn, the one on the flier by Hecate.

[What's Deviant art?] uuhhh…Deviant Art is a free sign-up gallery site; artists can post their artwork their and have it viewed. It’s similar to the Elfwood galleries, if you have every heard of them. Originally deviant art was created in answer to Elfwood’s “PG only” ratings for its submissions, but since devart got popular they’ve really toned down what they’ll allow. The main site is here: http://www.deviantart.com/
And example of a Deviant Art Gallery is here: http://artemis-prime.deviantart.com/
(and no, it isn’t mine, I don’t have one.Yet.)

One stupid question: Who's idea was to email the winning bid team on April 1? April 2 would be a better date, just because of what April 1 is. Nice job of establishing the deadline for bid submissions!!

Mecord's Cat: Apparently, that episode of "The Simpsons" wasn't stretching the truth. I've heard of people calling tech support lines and asking where the ANY key was located.

Here's something funny I read. I never saw this commercial during the 2000 Olympics, but I think the first line of the essay alone says it all.

Tharos: Sure, I'd love to do a trade sometime. Perhaps I can send you a few Jethro Tull tracks in return? I'm working tomorrow from 1-9, then Monday and Tuesday from 11-7. Let me know when you'll be around.

Actually, I have no problem imagining people with computers without CD-ROM drives. That's just lacking new hardware. I find it much harder to fathom people who think it's okay to break something to get it to work. The idea of people running around (in corporate management!) without those basic common sense connections in their brain scares me.

I just wanted to share a link to a website with stories about stupid clients. Most of them are for IT, web design, or graphic design jobs. They're hilarious.

This is a sample excerpt that was really funny:

I work for one of the largest ISP's in SA. My boss walks into a meeting one morning, puts his head in his hands and shouts "THAT'S IT! All of us should give up now, let's go to the beach instead"

One of our members had been calling help desk, telling them that the start up CD wasn't working. After sending the customer 2 new ones, the tech dept. thought that a major bug had been found etc...

What eventually came out was that this member didn't have a CD drive... and was 'tracing' the shape of a stiffy disk onto the CD and cracking bits off to fit the 'new' shape into the stiffy drive...

HOW DOES THIS PERSON EVEN MANAGE TO USE A TV REMOTE CONTROL?!

I'll IM you if you want a few good Rhapsody songs to check out, I have their discography except the first album, which I have heard in its entirety. Another band I obsess over.

Tharos: I can be a goon as well. I went so far as to write obscene things on the cover of Jethro Tull's 1980 album, "A." Which I actually regret doing, because the cover design was really cool. There were a few good songs on it, though, most notably "Black Sunday" and "Flyingdale Flyer." But I bet I'm probably speaking Greek to anyone who's not a Tull fanatic. By the way, I recently got a few Rhapsody songs off Kazaa. The one I remember best is "Emerald Sword." I liked the drumming; it reminded me of Metallica from their "Ride the Lightning" period. However, I felt that overall, the song had a feel to it similar to Europe's "The Final Countdown." Maybe I just downloaded the wrong songs.

Gside: Even after two surguries on his spinal discs and treatment for prostate cancer, my grandfather's still been in better spirits than anyone in my family. Crazy Irishman. ( ;

Yet I'm still able to sit and have a Guinness with him. So we're both blessed.

The real problem with parents is they don't always realize how their attempts to 'protect' you can be interpreted. The person I went to my senior prom with and knew since jr high, died this March. My mom, in her infinite wisdom wished to tell me in person. Unfortunately, that was two days after the funeral and she knew several days earlier and couldn't let me know over the phone because I 'might' get upset. It will always be something between us that she didn't give me a chance to really say good bye to someone I cared about. And truthfully, she still doesn't understand how deeply this hurts.

Harvester: EVERYTHING else that Dream Theater has done is more elegant than Six Degrees and that POS that was their latest album. "Images and Words" and "Scenes from a Memory" are spectacular, their best in my opinion (along with ACOS), and definitely some of the best in the genre.

...I just feel bad for them, since they made that weak Overture on the beginning of the second CD in Six Degrees that sounds like it came from Starfox 64. The same year, Symphony X released "The Odyssey," which blew DT away when it comes to orchestration. And since the two bands are compared a lot (for some reason), I would've been quite disheartened as a DT member to be absolutely destroyed at my own game. :) In case you can't tell, I disliked the latest Dream Theater stuff to the point where I'm almost personally offended. Ha, I can be such a goon with this stuff.

I'm double-posting because it just seemed insensitive to include casual conversation in with condolences.

Tharos: I suck at life more than you. Oh, by the way, I got "A Change of Seasons" in the mail the other day, and listened to it at work last evening. I wanted to change that comment I made the other day. I should have said "it's the best song in excess of 20 minutes I've heard since Rush's '2112,' since '2112' came out after Pink Floyd's 'Meddle.'" But it is still very good. Much as I love the musicianship on "Six Degrees," the production was overblown at times (there was one point during "Glass Prison" when it felt like it was turning into hip-hop). This was a hell of a lot more elegant. The covers were pretty good, too. "Funeral for a Friend" is an interesting song to cover. Plus, I was reading the musicians who performed with them at the concert, and nearly pissed myself when I saw Steve Howe's name. The band also said in the notes that they hoped this tided fans over until their next album. Was that "Awake"? In any case, I'm looking forward to hearing "Images and Words" and "Scenes From a Memory."

As someone living in California, the storms aren't too cool. I grew up on the East coast where you go to bed by thunder and lightning. Here, you don't get much of it. There were a few flashes of lightning yesterday and that was it, for the entire time I've been here. Then it just rains and fogs. Fog, I think, is a sentient being. It loves to aggravate my morning commute ;)

As for there being room here; there's plenty in the middle, but if you want a life, you have to be in So. or Nor. California, where there is definitely little room (or lots of room with high housing prices and a bum job market). Otherwise, it's great ;)

Gside: You asked a couple weeks ago about how my life was going. It's going fairly well. I share an apartment in the Bay Area of CA with two others and I have a job. It's a heinously long commute (45 miles but without traffic), but the job pays well, I get to design, I'm near cities and i have health insurance. Which, considering my knack at tripping over things that aren't there, is a godsend. Trying to do more art on the side. Current hobby; trying to sell my silly myriad of final fantasy and anime cards on eBay. Heheheheheheh.

Thank you for the condolences. We had time to come to terms with it, but he didn't linger. First there was pneumonia, which he recovered from, then he came out here, and when he got back he wasn't looking good,he went to the hospital and they found fluid in his lungs. After a few surguries (to remove the fluid, then an abcess, then a lobe), they found a fungal infection, which is very bad news. The time in the hosptial played out in just under a month, I believe.

So, who out there has gotten recognized for their appearance on the Gargoyles DVD?

A couple weeks back, while working I got recognized by a customer for my little appearance, someone I've never met before.

And earlier today, my brother Alex (who was on it also) got recognized in Wal-Mart (I wasn't there) by someone he went to High School with and he hasn't seen in a couple years.

So, who's been identified by people? And telling them in advance that you're on it doesn't count.

Damien: Lucky!! I want mine so bad! My friend said he was getting it for me for Christmas, but he hasn't ordered it yet. lol. Typical Josh for ya. And you're also lucky you have three grandparents left. I have one, and she's an idiot. She's a mean old coot. But I guess I still love her. I mean, what choice do I have? She's my Dad's mother. When she wants to call my dad, she calls him on his cell phone because shes afraid we might answer the phone and she'd have to talk to us. Straight after my parents' wedding, they went over to her house and my Grandmother showed my Mom pictures of my Dad's old GIRLFRIEND and kept talking about how she had been perfect for him. That's just a sample of how stupid she is.

Gside: I am very sorry for your loss. I know how it is to loose a Grandpa. I lost mine last year. I just wish I coulda known him like everyone else did. I knew him very briefly before he was bed-bound. You see, I'm really young and my parents old, so I never got to know my Grandparents before they got old and worn out. California may be getting floods, but we're getting all the snow. We're expecting to have three feet by tomorrow. The storm started around saturday night. Plus there's another storm expected thursday. And of course they didn't cancel classses today until about 4:00 (after my classes are over) when they realized that if they stayed any longer people might not be able to get home. and they're still not sure if they're going to cancel school tomorow. I don't know why their putting off that decision. One look at the forecast and it's a foregone conclusion. But it's like DPH's logic problem. Some people have to pick B every time. To top it all off my landlord has plowed the parking lot only to shove a large pile of snow (we're talking four feet of packed snow, ice, and gravel) directly behind my car. So now I'm snowed in with a large stack of homework to do. Man, this day just sucks.

Gside>> My condolences. I'm lucky enough to have all four grandparents still alive, though how much longer they'l stay that way....

and a belated congrats to the newly weds. I don't know who said it but "the only thing better than being young and in love is being old and still in love." Or something like that.

Gside - my condolences, the only grandparent I really lost was my mom's mother because my dad's parents died when I was younger and my mom's father had alheimer's disease so emotionally I let go of him before he had died.

I need to pick the mind of somebody even more logical than me. (That might be difficult to find somebody more devoted to logic.)

Here's why. Trying to work out the best decision, in a given set of outcomes.

50% of the time, choosing option A gives me better results, with the added bonus of 50% of those involve less work.
37.5% of the time, choosing option B gives me better results, even though it is always more work.
12.5% of the time, it doesn't matter which choice I make.

Which option is better to choose: A or B?

Hi! Um, I was wondering if you guys could help! I can't seem to find any of the Gargoyles Gathering mascotts except for 2004's. Could someone kindly tell me where I could find all of the former mascots or send them to me? Please! Thank you! Your help is much appreciated!

Fifth!

I've never posted this early before. Of course, I usually work from 11-7 on Monday when the CR is being wiped. But today, I needed to take the day off in order to get new brake pads and front rotors. I could technically still go into work if I wanted to, but I already called out, and it's such a nice day, I might as well bag the leaves in my backyard and clean the inside of my car. On the way back from Firestone, I finally acquired the 12-Disc Special Edition Box Set of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy from Best Buy. I'd been waiting for them to get that in for almost a month. Of course, they also just now got a shipment of Gargoyles DVDs. At least I think they do. The website said the store in my area did, but I did not see them in there.

Quick question: anyone here watch "24"? I missed the premiere last night (forgot to program my VCR), and it doesn't seem they're showing any encores. Ah, well. I can still watch it tonight. It's only the first two hours. I missed the first two hours of the second season, and still understood what was going on.
