Revel> <<they are just too drunk to care>>: Sounds about as stereotypical as proliferation of corned beef.
<<people will be buying lots of charcoal for their grills>>: It may be heresy, but we've got gas, and it's served us well over the years.

G-side- Nah, they are just too drunk to care. Just like even the slightest chance for a sunny weekend in Texas means people will be buying lots of charcoal for their grills.

I've been wondering, does Ireland temporarially turn Methodist or something if St. Patrick's day falls on a Friday?

I just finished reading "Mercenary" (from Pendragon, Season One). It was good to see a familiar character again, but one thing I couldn't figure out. When Arthur, Griff, and Cavall first meet MacBeth at the university, it says that that was the first time MacBeth had seen Arthur since he'd tried to usurp Arthur's throne (which I assume was when he tried to take Excalibur in the Gargoyles episode "Pendragon"), but in the story "The Return," Arthur and Griff meet with MacBeth in London. Was that just a little indiscrepency that got overlooked during the revision process?

In any case, I hope we'll see more of MacBeth in Seasons Three and Four. He and Arthur already have a great deal in common.

*a group of leprechauns drag a hogtied Bronx into the TGS comment room, and proceed to dance around him in a circle while he glowers angrily at them, eyes glowing white. Todd walks in via an experimental Blaisism, glances over at the dancing leprechauns for a moment, then speaks. *

HARVESTER - Ah, yes, thanks for explaining that to me. I'm glad that you didn't get too much of a spoiler-effect towards Season One of "Pendragon" that way. Things improve greatly in Seasons Three and Four; there are still some flashbacks, but I like to think that we handled them better in terms of incorporating them into the main story, and there's a stronger focus on the present-day events.

*Bronx suddenly breaks loose, and charges at the leprechauns, who scatter and flee out of the comment room. Bronx charges after them. There is the sound of a scuffle off-stage, after which Bronx re-enters the room looking full, coughs up a leprechaun's cap, and curls up into the corner to take a contented little nap. Todd glances at him for a moment, then says, just before he exits: *

I really don't want to know.

"Come with me to the winged isle/ Northern father's western child/ Where the dance of ages is playing still/ Through far marshes of acres wild!" -Ian Anderson.

I know my choice of text color is unoriginal, but this is a very rare moment where it's fun to follow the crowd. Guinness is in the fridge, and we've got assorted members of Clan Ballantine dropping by for dinner tonight. Anyone here who lives in Northern Virginia, feel free to drop by and have a pint. Irish never discriminate.

(Reno, you might want to stop reading this now. I'm going to give things away).

Todd: Not really, no. I was already involved in the plot of the main Gargoyles story, and I really got more into the way the Unseelie conflict served as this wonderful unifier between the events in each series. There were things that got revealed, but I was able to push those aside because I was enjoying the way Madoc's goal of self-preservation really tied the stories of the London and Manhattan clans together (and of course, eventually brought all the clans across the world together into a battle for survival; I have a feeling that despite the fact the two stories totaled over 150 pages, you guys still had to edit it down from a lot more). Of course, the first season of Pendragon still held a few surprises. I especially liked how "Visions" finally explained just how the hell the Weird Sisters were involved in the events of "Two."

Besides, judging from what I've read in the main Gargoyles series, there are some things in Timedancer I can already guess at. I assume that in one of the stories, Lexington is going to save Brooklyn's children, and the only reason he's able to do this is because of his implants. I'm also guessing that he's seen something else in Demona's future, something that happened between the events in "Consequences" (Gargs, Season 3) and "Requiem" (TD, Season 1). So anyway, this is all a roundabout way of saying that I didn't mind.

(Okay, Reno. You may resume).

Patrick: I recently discovered that Genesis albums are even cheaper at cduniverse.com. I ordered Nursery Cryme earlier this week, and it was only 8 bucks before shipping. Of course, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway still costs a arm and a leg.

I find it interesting that when the Clash originally released their fourth album, Sandinista!, as a triple LP, it only cost as much as a single LP. And today, the two-disc CD costs about 25 bucks. I guess they finally were sucked into the same coporation they sang warnings against.

Happy St. Patrick's Day, everyone!

HARVESTER - Something that I've just been wondering. You mentioned having read Season Two of "Pendragon" (when it was joined with "Gargoyles") before Season One. Did you ever find it a bit odd reading the second phase of Arthur's adventures before the first phase (especially since you'll now know what form Merlin has taken on before Arthur even finds him)?

To celebrate today, I was going to drive all the snakes from the comment room. With gasoline prices as high as they are, however, I've decided instead just to buy them a bus pass.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Sorry I was gone so long. Been moving here and there, and I'd thought that, if I didn't have anything (major) to contribute, that I'd refrain from visiting.
Well, I still don't have much, if anything, to contribute...but I thought to say HI!, let you all know I'm still breathing.
Have fun.

Norman Dent struck me as being a lot more Norman than Harvey Dent; the only thing evocative of Two-Face that I could think of about him was his surname. (If he was ever shown flipping a coin, I must have missed that bit.) But he definitely felt strongly evocative of the Norman of "Mighty Max" in the tone of a taciturn, staunchly loyal, formidable protector.

Delurking>

Harverster I can answer that question. I found the pictures in an out-of-the-way website about Bamburgh Castle, some tourist board sight I think. I wish I could remember things more clearly from the days of yore. I do remeber being a fresh faced newbie to the TGS team and wanting to make a good impression. I had this nasty habit (and I still do) of starting with a short story and spinning out an epic.

I remember in the early days, all the stories were being crafted concurrently, so it was impossible to know if another author would cover they same bit of flashback as you were writing. This lead me to focus more on Lancelot than Arthur, Lancelot and Guinevre. I'm glad you liked how it turned out.

As for the Indiana Joens reference. I was toss anything that seemed a good idea. Elaine's bodyguard, Norman Dent, was an amalagm of animated characters voiced by Richard Moll, Norman from 'Mighty Max' and Harvey Dent from 'Batman: The Animated Series'.

Todd: I have noticed that about the first season. Is the original project head the one responsible for all the pictures in "The Ill-Made Knight"? (By the way, I loved the Indiana Jones reference in that one).

So far, I would have to say the best stories are the ones that are largely character-oriented (my favorites thus far are "Into the Woods" and "Visions"). And as I said earlier, the way we left Arthur and his knights at the end of Season 2 should make for some interesting stories.

HARVESTER - Yes, a big problem that we had with "Pendragon" in its first season (and, which I believe crippled it thereafter) was that the original head of the project was almost obsessed with it being primarily a means of educating people about the legends of the British Isles with storytelling coming in second - which resulted in most of the first season episodes being more about information and flashbacks than anything else. When he realized the impact that this attitude had had on the project, he resigned at once.

And the Lia Fail was a real object rather than something that we made up, though opinion is divided as to whether it and the Stone of Scone are the same thing or not.

Speaking of Pendragon, I just finished reading "The Stone of Destiny." Was there ever (or is there still) such a thing as the Lia Fail? I imagine details were fudged a bit for the sake of the story, but does such a thing, or something similar, exist?

By the way, one critical point: the last flashback, in which the Stone was taken to England by Edward I felt out of place at the end, especially after the climax we had just read. I imagine why it was put there, due to the conversation between the Scottish priests, but it also felt like it could have fit at the beginning, as well, almost like foreshadowing. By the way, is that riddle that the Stone tells an original riddle?

MURAZOR - Thanks for your compliment on the finale for Pendragon Season Four (which was also the series finale), assuming that that was the one you were talking about. It had quite a few complications to sort out before it was finished, but I still felt proud of it by the time that it was completed.

Well... Finally, Pendragon is over. And the finale rocked big time. Word of advice for all those who read this, yet having finished the stories yet: Read'em all (let's hope that this bad Pokemon pun won't be noticed by the copyright owners).

Now, returning to business, where can I send a few of my ideas once I finish with them? I have a few in the drawing board and a couple of them are already in the assembly line and I only need to do a little bit of extra research, just to be sure that I am not mistaking my facts.

First!

And I figure that since it's a brand new week, I'll ask this question again. I asked it last night, but the CR's been wiped. Anyway, I'm borrowing from the troll's idea of quotable quotes, and turning it into a question more relevant to the CR, that might hopefully fuel some discussion. So, the question is, do people have any favorite quotes from Gargoyles? It is rather quotable, for something that's supposed to be a kid's cartoon. See my last post from the previous week for one of mine. ( ;

Well, time to go to work.
