**The Batman Spoilers**

Todd - Just because you're crazy, it doesn't make you stupid. There is *always* a method to the madness. The contrasts worked very well in that episode. But good stories require right motivations or they don't work.

GXB - The thing I like about this series is the choice of pov. This isn't a retelling of B:TAS. If the Batwave technology (and the Bat bot) were removed this series, I actually like it much more.

Also, if the joker is using this gas, why haven't the police and/or Batman spent time trying to track down where the Joker is making the stuff and/or where he gets his supplies. Treating victims of the joker after the fact isn't very time-effective; tracking down where the joker is getting his supplies would be a better use for Batman *and* establish his role as the world's greatest detective.

**End the Batman Spoilers**

Well, I'm a little pressed for cash at the moment. I noticed the Pretender Season 1 is available for rent. The episodes I wanted to see is the pilot and the season finale again. (I've only seen the pilot once).

The bad news is starting next week I got start paying a $25 a week to the district court to pay off some traffic fines. It will take me 3 months to do that.

DPH: I second that. I mean, there is only one voice for Batman, and that is Kevin Conroy. Just like there's only one voice for Goliath. Or just about every character on Gargoyles, for that matter. Anyway, I pulled up the cast list for "The Batman" on imdb.com (I'm assuming this is the cartoon that Greg Weisman is involved in in some form; if I remember correctly, he wrote an episode or two or is doing something else on it), and I don't think a lot of the voices they've found measure up to the voices the Fox cartoon used (although, they did use Ron Perlman in Batman: TAS, so I could see him voicing Croc).

And I also agree that you should buy the DVDs. You're in luck. Batman: The Animated Series Volume 3 was just released on DVD, which means they've finished compiling the Fox cartoon, which stylistically I always liked more than the WB cartoon. And honestly, Volume 3 contains a lot of the best episodes, such as the two-parter that introduces Batgirl, the episode introducing the Ventriloquist, another two-parter starring Ra's Al-Ghul (perhaps one of Batman's deadliest opponents in the cartoon), the final episode with the Riddler (I always loved John Glover's portrayal of him as this sophisticated intellectual as opposed to Jim Carrey just doing Ace Ventura in green tights), and one of my personal favorites, the one where Batman fights the robot clone of himself. Good stuff.

DPH - You're expecting rationality from the Joker?

(I found the episode a rather amusing one myself, particularly the Joker saying "This is a job for..." while dressed up as Clark Kent, and the Penguin's indignation over the Joker-as-Batman's foiling one of his crimes - "There's a reason why I don't interfere in your 'Gas Gotham City' schemes. It's called professional courtesy!")

HARVESTER - Looking forward to that.

HoE> <<it's the parents's fault for ASS-uming Lucas was joking>>: If they even read any interviews.

**The Batman Spoilers**

I watched The Batman today. One really dumb question I have. I couldn't quite work out the Joker's motivation for his actions.

I liked the nice contrast and enjoyed how the Joker had tuned into "Batwave", but then that presents a few good questions. 1)How in heck did Joker learn Batman was using "Batwave"? 2)How did the Joker tap into the signal? 3)Why can't the police tap into it as well? I admit that I am not very found of this Batwave technology. I felt it would be good enough to listen in on police frequencies to go after crime and save most of his high tech gadgets for his vehicles, remotes for the vehicles, and the bat cave.

Todd: Thanks. I actually am using my gmail account almost exclusively. In addition to having 2 gigs of storage, it also automatically quarantines Spam e-mails so they don't even show up in the inbox. And good call on the Demona/Vader parallel. Even their "creations" are the same. Both of them did what they did because they thought they were doing good. Oh, by the way, I haven't forgotten about "Pendragon." But I'm too tired for that tonight. Stay tuned...

Greg: If you really listen to a lot of the dialogue in the prequel trilogy, yes, it is bad. However, one thing I feel the original trilogy has that the prequels are lacking in is chemistry between the actors. There's a lot of great dynamics in the original trilogy. I think part of the reason is that George Lucas isn't very good at working with people. But especially in Episodes V and VI, the interplay between the characters is a lot better than anything you see in the prequels. Probably because for those two movies, other directors were working with the actors. The sense I get from watching the original trilogy is that a lot of the characters can't stand each other and are constantly at one anothers' throats, but at the same time, they'd be lost without one another. That's one of the things that makes the originals more enjoyable. The actors made the most of what they had. I don't think that's the case with the new ones.

Another thing that amused me about the "Empire" DVD: The gay-ass scream we hear from Luke when he plummets down the shaft in Cloud City (which was added in 1997) was taken out. The smartest thing Lucas has ever done, but a moot point, since he should never have put the scream there to begin with.

Patrick: I do recommend seeing Episode III. I can understand completely if you want to wait for DVD release (I saw it because my brother said it was really good, and I trust his judgment), but as I said, it is better than the first two prequels combined, because ultimately it's the story we've been waiting for George Lucas to tell. I've read some reviews saying that it's the best of the Star Wars Saga, and that Christensen and Portman actually give engaging performances. This is bullshit, but it's still a good movie.

While I've been sitting out the recent "Star Wars" discussion (having only seen the first movie - only now, I suppose that it's "Star Wars Part IV" thanks to the prequels), I will confess that I do have one thing to say about it. Jar Jar could actually turn out to be better for the world than you might expect. Think about it: everyone on the planet realizes that all of their differences in race, religion, and gender pale behind one thing that they all have in common: loathing for Jar Jar.

Well, one other thing - it's also tempting to wonder what Demona must think of a whole set of extremely famous sci-fi adventure movies which focus around a character falling into the darkness and then getting redeemed, partly through said character's offspring. Though I somehow have difficulties imagining Demona willingly taking time out from her hatred of humanity and scheme-brewing to spend a couple of hours in a movie theatre (which she could only pull off after "The Mirror", anyway).

Greg> <Leia was Luke's sister until the very last minute> That one he did have planned since the begining, or at least since Empire. My mother, who is one of the biggest Star Wars fans I know (she's also a trekkie among other things) Told be before we went to see Empire that they were twins, Vader was their father and that Vader wears the suit because he was "tossed" into a volcano during a battle between him and Obi-wan ("tossed" has always been interpereted loosely, since if he did get dropped into a vat of lava there would be little chance of saving enough to put into a midget vader suit). Talk about spoilers... I wish I knew where she picked up these kind of things. But she didn't know about Jar-jar, so I think he was a last minute thing.

Patrick and Greg, that was the story going around after the release of Return of the Jedi. The other one was Lucas was going to take a twenty year break from the story for two reasons: to give the original cast a chance to age so that they could play other parts in the prequels and to give a chance for film technology to advance so that he could do some things that weren't yet possible.

My personal opinion is that he had the story outlined in that he had done massive world building and figured that it would be easy to pull together a script. Then he procrastinated. The night before the big studio meeting he wrote the draft that became the shooting script.

Oh, and for fun I went to IMDB yesterday and read the trivia on all the Star Wars movies. There's some fun stuff. Amongst other things is Lucas was very fluid in his visualization of the characters. Luke for example was at one point female, a dwarf and named Starkiller, though not necessarily all at the same time. Oh and Han Solo was some kind of strange giant alien creature.

So far, the best thing anyone has told me about Episode III is "It doesn't suck as much as the first two." Hardly the kind of recommedation that makes me want to go out and drop $7.50 on it.

I don't believe for a second that Lucas had these things written or planned for thirty years. Yeah, he probably knew about Anakin becoming Vader, Palpatine becoming the Emperor, the fall of the Republic and rise of the Empire, Clone Wars, and the genocide of the Jedi... but probably in a really, really vague way. I doubt he had any details nailed down.

Hell, I'm not convinced he knew Leia was Luke's sister until the very last minute while writing Jedi... that revelations always came out of left field, I never liked it. I never thought it was handled well at all.

As for the TV series. I'm keeping an open mind on this one. His involvement will likely be minimal, and I heard the rumor of Kevin Smith being involved. We'll see.

Greg: One of the reasons why I feel that the TV series in the works has potential is because George Lucas won't be writing or directing it. I've heard he's directing the pilot, but after that, he's more or less through with Star Wars and onto all of these art films he's supposedly wanted to make for the last 30 years. I have heard that Kevin Smith will be directing a few episodes of the TV series. That might be interesting.

Really? He'd written everything at once? Well, I already know why he waited so long to make I - III. So, the big question now is: if he'd always intended for Boba Fett to be a clone, why not bring back Jason Wingreen for Episode II to do the voice of Jango when Jango has his helmet on? Unless, hold on, checking imdb...nope, still alive. Hey George Lucas: WHAT THE F***?!

Did someone say my name?

HoE> My thoughts on Episode III? Well, yes, I did hate the first two prequels. Hated them with a passion. Worst movies I've ever seen... well, no, that's a gross exageration, I've sat through plenty of worse movies. But that doesn't change the fact that they sucked.

As for "Revenge of the Sith". Honestly, I enjoyed this one. It was flawed. Terribly flawed. Natalie Portman was horrible, the dialogue was mostly terrible. But I re-watched the old trilogy, and honestly, aside from a couple performances, if you don't look at it through nostalgia colored glasses, the acting and dialogue was pretty bad there. Still, despite those flaws, I still managed to enjoy this one. Light years better than the previous two, and hell, I'm going to say it was better than "Return of the Jedi" as well... yes, I hate the Ewoks that much ;)

That being said, Lucas should have handed the outline to a better writer, and let a better director take care of it. If he did that, instead of "pretty good", I think this one could have been "great".

George Lucas still owes me $6.00 from Episode 1. How *any* movie 20 plus years in the making (allegedly the entire story was written during the time the first three movies was produced (at least that was the story going around back then)) could be that bad is unfathomable.

No, I'm not bitter.

On to happier thoughts... The Gathering is coming! Have you found your roommates, remembered to email staff at gargoyles - fans dot org (minus all the extra spaces and spelling) about attending the pre convention dinner at Excalibur and all that good stuff? Gside: And after George Lucas had said a few times that the movie wasn't for small children. Since the other two were basically kids' movies, maybe everyone thought he was joking. So I guess it's both Lucas's fault for making I and II kidfests, and it's the parents's fault for ASS-uming Lucas was joking. Ah, screw it. He's super-rich and I'm not, so I'm just gonna say that it was ALL George Lucas's fault. 100 percent.

Dezi: If what Greg X. said this past New Year's Day is any indication, he hates the prequels as well. At least, I'm pretty sure he hates Episodes I and II. I'm not sure what his thoughts on the third are. Despite having most of the problems of the other two prequels, storywise I actually enjoyed sitting through Episode III. Something I forgot to add yesterday (which might be a spoiler, but if it is, it's not really giving pivotal info away) is that that opening crawl is one of the WORST written things I've ever seen. Any respectable writer, if they ever wrote something like that, would then immediately shoot themselves. My theory is that George Lucas figured it was the last movie, so he didn't have to try anymore, but man, did that thing suck. It was painful, biblically PAINFUL to read that. You never, never begin something with an interjection, unless you're an asshole.

The disk clean up is not doing so and when I check the temp files it shows 0 but when accessed and opened they have files. some very old. If I try to delete these files they say they are system files so I haven't accutally deleted them. What would happen if I did delete these files? or should I find someone who knows more than I do?

Thanks

STAR WARS SPOILERS****

Harvester: Thank you. I pretty much agree with just about everything you said (even the bit about the dialogue, etc) but have found my self in such a location that if I actually voice those opinions, the people here won't just force-choke me, they'll stalk me, smother me with a pillow, and leave my body in a landfill. To mention those opinions even around some members of my family will get me written out of wills. And I honestly wasn't sure how the tone of this room was (even after coming here for like 2 1/2 yrs) so I just kept quiet. So thank you.

Also, since the posts appear the way they do, you might wanted to put a spoiler warning on the second part, just in case. Is cool.

Sorry, my hand slipped. Stupid taskbar.

Anyway, at first the movie looked like it was in danger of becoming Episode I or II. But then everything that happened after Grievous was slain was just breathtaking. In addition to me asking myself "am I really watching this happen?" mostly because of what I'd seen in Episodes I and II, I liked how the extermination of the Jedi was driven mostly without dialogue. Brutal as all hell, but I just couldn't look away.

And finally, after waiting six years, we get to see Nute Gunray die. Man, I hated him almost as much as Jar Jar. Speaking of which, I was also glad to see that Jar Jar didn't talk at all. I was hoping we'd see him get killed, but this movie confirms my worst fear: that voice shouting "Weesa free!" in that long shot of the celebration on Naboo at the end of the "Jedi" DVD is probably Jar Jar's. God damnit! This is why I'm not buying the DVDs: I'd rather watch the original trilogy without having to be reminded of Jar Jar, Jango Fett, and Hayden Christensen's portrayal of Anakin.

Anyway, I found the paralell actions between Vader's creation and Padme giving birth to be really cool, as well. As a friend of mine pointed out (and I agree with her) it would have been more ironic (and far cooler) if Anakin had literally killed Padme instead of Padme dying of a broken heart. I can see how he caused that broken heart, but still, it's not as ironic as him finishing the choking. Aside from that, I did like how a birth and a death was happening in each scene (literally for Padme, and metaphorically for Anakin). And I did enjoy that extreme close-up of the mask going on Anakin's face, and that moment of absolute silence before he took his first breath. When he really tries to, George Lucas can still impress people.

In the end, while it's still pointless to try comparing the prequel trilogy to the original trilogy, this was definitely better than Episodes I and II combined. You can tell it's the one he was waiting to make: the story of the rise of Vader and the fall of the Republic. Ultimately, I was entertained by it.

Guandalug: I've submitted my first synopsis through that link. I pared it down considerably, please let me know if it requires more paring.

Mecord: I like her outfit better than the outfit in the cartoon. Charlize Theron actually looks dressed for covertness. Plus her hairstyle looks sexier than the cartoon's.

WARNING: "REVENGE OF THE SITH" SPOILERS BEGIN HERE

While I understand that Lucas has the technology to do more in these movies, it only makes it harder to watch them in the order he intends, which is I - IV. The opening space battle looked like a video game (and let's face it, he no doubt wrote the script for this movie with several Lucasarts programmers in the room, just like when he did the Podracing in Episode I). Then, by contrast, you have the clunkier (but I think more realistic looking) battles in the original trilogy. Sure, the Imperial Walkers in Episode V are models, but they're real models, which ultimately makes them look cooler than a lot of the absurd CG spacecraft in the prequels.

The dialogue was still terrible. So I can't blame most of the cast for their sub-par performances. Except for Hayden Christensen. The scene where he helps Palpatine kill Mace Windu, and then sinks back and says "what have I done?" I didn't care that I was in a public movie theater, I shouted "Oh come on, you can do better than that!" at the screen. I think the guy on the other side of the aisle tried to force-choke me, but I make no apologies for recognizing one of the worst deliveries I've ever seen in my 24 years on this planet. And the interplay between him and Natalie Portman was painful to watch. Lucas could have cut half of their scenes and the movie would have better. The main reason I hate seeing him in Episode VI (aside from seeing revisionism as evil) is because I feel that Joe Piscopo could have played a better Anakin. However, I felt that Ian McDarmid was very good at actually making Lucas's shitty dialogue engaging. He gave perhaps the best performance in the movie, and it's a shame that most of the other actors in the prequel trilogy could not follow his example. He got a little hokey after he was scarred by his own lightning, but overall, I think he held the movie together.

Now for the high points: I was not expecting the movie to be as dark as it actually was. When I saw that child in the temple getting shot by Clone Troopers, I almost forgot I was watching a George Lucas film.

Greetings;

Just came across an interesting tid-bit. Peter S. Beagle has written a short coda to the Last Unicorn. It is being published as a limited edition hardcover (3000 in total, all autographed). It is being given away to those who purchase an audio version of the last unicorn through http://www.conlanpress.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc.

For those of you not wanting to purchase the CD or Mp3 format, the story will be published in a magazine in October. Since I have an autographed copy of the Last Unicorn, the choice was easy for me.

I was not impressed with any of them. I was more impressed with IV, V, and VI. It had it's good points, but being a romantic at heart the romance was indeed - cheap. If you're into special effects, this one had plenty. I want Obi wan's mount, but that's another story. :P I know, reckon I've rambled enough now. We've reformatted our hard drive, and reinstalled all the software, and so Adelphia put the plug back in. But they said that if they detect any unsolicited e-mails coming from the computer over the next 24 hours, they'll pull the plug again for another 30 days. So in the 90 minutes I have before I go to work, I'm trying to figure out what this kid did when he rebooted (he was my brother's friend from school), and seeing if he put Norton or any firewalls back in.

Todd: I was actually in the middle of reading "Giants In the Earth" when the tragedy struck. It was at the best part too, when Merlin and Mary had been grabbed. I'm aware that I skipped comments on the previous story ("My Angel Brianna," I think it was), so my plan had been to cover comments for both stories in one post after I finished "Giants in the Earth." Hopefully, if my computer passes inspection, I'll be able to read the rest of "Giants" this week. I do have plans to continue with them, though, because I know you like reading them.

Guandalug: "Future Tense" is ready to go. I don't want to e-mail anything in the next 24 hours because I'm a little paranoid, but you will have it before the week is up. I should also hopefully have "Avalon, Part III" typed out soon. And I figure that since I taped "Ransom" off ToonDisney last night, and will be watching it a couple of times (for research purposes, to get a basic idea of what did and didn't work, and what might be improved upon in this rewrite I've got cooking), I might as well type a synopsis of that.

Mecord: I would have liked to have checked out that website. Unfortunately, it required the installation of some new components for viewing, and as I said, I'm paranoid at the moment. For some reason, though, my gut is telling me Angelina Jolie would make a good Aeon Flux. Have they gotten as far as casting yet?

Finally, since I haven't been on AIM in a very long while, I haven't been able to speak to Gunjack or Lain. Does anyone know what the timetable is for the conclusion of "Hungry Shadows"? At this point, I'm thinking that in keeping with their theme, we might see Part 3 on July 4th.

And I was just wondering: has anyone here seen "Revenge of the Sith"? My brother saw it and said it was really good. He said the dialogue is still very clunky (and the fact that there's still very little screen chemistry between the actors makes it even worse), but that it's extremely dark. The general concensus I've been getting is that it was better than Episodes I and II, but I liked the Clone Wars miniseries on Cartoon Network better than Episodes I and II, so that's not saying much. I'm still upset over what George Lucas did on the "Empire Strikes Back" DVD (making it impossible for someone to watch it without being reminded of history's greatest wannabe, Jango Fett), but I've heard enough about Episode III to make me curious enough to see it on the big screen. Plus, I gotta free some space on my movie calender before "Batman Begins" comes out. If I'm still connected tomorrow, I'll let people know how it was. But as I've sat here, I've run two scans on two seperate programs, and no worms or trojans have been uncovered yet. So perhaps we'll meet again soon. See you all on the dark side.

*As Harvester finishes, and places the Spammer's eyes in his leather knapsack, Demona enters with her laser cannon drawn.*

Demona: "You talk too much, human. Now you'll pay the price for your insolence."

Harvester (points over Demona's shoulder): "Holy shit, it's Thailog! And he's French-kissing your daughter!"

*Demona's eyes burn red and she spins to look behind her. Harvester uses the opportunity to melt back into the shadows beyond the CR, smiling as he hears the Spammer regain consciousness and start asking Demona to turn on the lights.*

First!

And just a reminder: I'm still lacking episode summaries for a few episodes. Click my link, take a look, choose an episode, sum it up and send it to me (or choose an episode, mail be about your choice and send me the summary with two or three weeks). Come on, people - can't be THAT hard to get the last few episodes summed up.
