Greg> <<go to the Winchester>>: Hah, told you he kept it loaded, Shawn. Though I was somewhat disappointed with the movie; I expected more funny in the zombie killing, rather than the pervasive slow black comedy.

I would figure demona sleeps whenever it is convenient to sleep... I also think the season would have a very large part of it because during the summer when there are many more hours of daylight than night, she would easily be able to sleep during the day and not cause problems... In the winter however when there are very few hours of daylight per day I would figure she would be mostly sleeping at night.

HARVESTER - Yes, don't worry about the spoiler warnings. Everyone here has either read "Pendragon" long ago, or has no desire to do so.

I would have thought that Duval's identity would still be a surprise to you even if you had read Greg Weisman's plans for him, precisely because we made him Lancelot rather than Percival (who was Greg's choice). Admittedly, we only made him Lancelot because somebody had heard a rumor that Greg had said that Lancelot founded the Illuminati (and even repeated it in an uncertain manner, as "Didn't Greg say....?"), and we didn't confirm it. If we'd been paying closer attention to Duval's name, of course, we'd have probably figured out from the start that Mr. Weisman had intended him to be Percival (who fits the name "Duval" better than Lancelot does). Well, there's nothing that we can do about it now.

I'm glad that you liked "Iris, Lily, and Rose". That one went through quite a few rewrites from different members. One thing that I recall about the first draft of it in particular was that Mary came across as a little too much of a whiner, as in protesting when they have to climb a ladder to get away from their pursuers that it's all covered in bugs. While it fitted in with the way that we initially imagined her (a spoiled rich girl, a bit like Cordelia in the early episodes of "Buffy"), I realized while reading it that it didn't fit in so well with her introduction in "The Curse of Rivencroft", where she was portrayed as backpacking across the countryside by herself when she met Arthur and Merlin. Anybody who voluntarily engages in such an activity would have to be willing to "rough it".

Another name-element in "Pendragon", by the way: Norman Dent's name was a blend (on the part of Taleweaver, who came up with the character) of Norman from "Mighty Max" and Harvey Dent from "Batman: TAS", with Taleweaver seeing him as voiced by Richard Moll (who was the voice actor for both characters). As you can guess, the Norman of "Mighty Max" was a very strong influence on the characterization of the TGS Norman as well.

GSIDE> <<Of course it has to. Who wants jaywalking corpses?>>

They'll kill us all. Wait, I have an idea!

We take Pete's car, we drive over to mum's, we go in, take care of Phillip - "I'm so sorry Phillip". - then we grab mum, we go over to Liz's place, hole up, have a cup of tea and wait for this whole thing to blow over.

No, wait, that's bad. If we hole up, I wanna be somewhere familiar, I wanna know where the exits are, and I wanna be allowed to smoke.

Take car. Go to mum's. Kill Phil - "Sorry." - grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over. How's that for a slice of fried gold?

Jacob> <<Nakabyaski>>: Okay, where'd that come from?

Spen> <<who ever said that the CR was female?>>: No one. The girl bit is a quote.

HoE> <<Hey, the dead have no need for money, unless they're Greek>>: Or Roman. Or any other cultures that pays their way to the other side. Or just want to live it up on the other side (Egyptian, Chinese). And sometimes it's good for us if you don't want them staring all the time.

Greg> <<Steals the CR's pants and runs>>: Excellent. Pants are just an impediment anyway.

Todd> <<the law has to be obeyed, even by corpses>>: Of course it has to. Who wants jaywalking corpses?

hoe - In Greg Weisman's universe, Jade and Turquesa had left Avalon well before Ill Meet by Moonlight. In TGS's universe, they had not returned to Guatamela as of Re-Emergence. That's the only answers I can give. And yes, a current tgs staffer recognized said predictament a few years ago . . . that's all I can say.

And I really should start posting spoilers before my comments. But I think just about everyone here has read TGS, and the few people I've talked to that haven't read Pendragon don't have much of a desire to do so. Ah, well. They don't know what they're missing.

Something I've always wondered, and I don't know if Greg has ever addressed this. Maybe he has, but I figured I'd ask the CR first, since the last time I checked, Greg wasn't accepting questions, and the answers I'm always looking for are never in the most obvious part of the archives. So I always wind up asking questions that have been asked. Anyhoo, after Jade and Turquesa were taken to Avalon at the end of "The Green," did they go right back to Guatemala or did Avalon send them anywhere first?

By the way, I just finished "Iris, Lily, and Rose." I'd have to say it was better then the last story. I hope this is the start of a trend, but I'll let you know after I finish "Dark Passions." Truth to tell, I wasn't as shocked as I could have been about the revelation concerning Duval, having read on Greg's website the general outline he'd had for Pendragon. But it was still interesting. I think having Duval be Lancelot makes it more interesting for the purposes of TGS, given the character of Elaine. I hope this isn't the last we see of him. For once, it's good to see an immortal character who hasn't been motivated through the centuries by revenge. I hope Duval's immortality is addressed in another story, but the Illuminati are known for secrets.

One weak point in the story: Arthur seemed to get over the effects of the Mnemosine too quickly, and after it seemed like a big deal had been made over it. The dcotors not knowing when it would wear off, and Merlin's reluctance to try anything without knowing just what had been done. And after all that Arthur seemed to wake up on his own accord. Still, I suppose it was necessary to give Duval the proof he needed that the man really was Arthur Pendragon. And it raised another interesting point: certain members of the Society seem to act very impulsively. Despite the fact that Duval is supposed to be their leader, could any of the other Inner Circle members have their own agendas? Hmmmmm...

But overall, kickass story. Once again, I'd like to extend belated kudos to the TGS staff. Thanks for not making the Illuminati the Stonecutter wannabes that the Goliath Chronicles did.

Todd : "I don't think that there's any actual rule about being here for three months to become a member" Well, according to the member profiles, you have to make at least one post a week for three months to get a profile. Now, I probably will not be getting a profile, but it's the thought that counts.
"Any moment now it's going to get a ticket for indecent exposure" Now, do you really think I'd be stupid enough to kill the CR in a public place? (Don't answer that!) No, I killed it in private, and left the body in the basement of one of my enemies.

Coyote : Whoa, wasn't expecting that. Hmm, let's see if we can get someone else back in here. Everyone, repeat after me.

I think Demona gets sleep during the day personally. I believe Greg Weisman said that she can go with very little, like four hours a night. He himself apparantly has a similar sleep schedual.

That would be my answer as well. As the boss, she can go in to work whenever she feels like.

Hrm...I have a question: When do you guys think Demona sleeps? I was thinking about this (I was bored)and, well, her sleep schedule is kinda off cause she doesn't have the mandatory stone sleep anymore. She obviously would rather be a gargoyle, so on the one hand, she could sleep during the day as a human. It would be easier cause her wings might not go numb from being laid on funny (like if you don't move your arm or something for a few hours-ouch!)
But on the other hand, as "Dominique" she is more effective in the human world, and has kind of a "name" to uphold, a persona to keep up. So it wouldn't really do well to sleep in the day when you have business and stuff to attend to. So I'm torn. What do you think?

Spacebabie: I tried starting that discussion once. Didn't get any bites, though. But, I'm still game. One of my favorite quotes of the show comes from "Double Jeopardy." I just loved the fact that Xanatos, Mr. Cool-as-Ice, the man who had always radiated control, finally got a taste of his own medicine.

Owen: "You mean that creature is still out there, it has the money, it's as powerful as Goliath... And it's SMARTER than you?"
Xanatos: "Owen, I think I've created a monster."

And of course, the icing on that one was the superimposition of Thailog against the rising sun, I think one of the few times the show had a shot that involved a super. And speaking of which, while not as memorable, I also liked the exchange between Goliath and his clan in Act I of that episode.

Goliath: "I don't know what you're talking about. Surely you know I am not in the habit of playing childish pranks, or laughing maniacally in the dark."
Hudson: "Do you even know how to laugh maniacally?"

But the main reason I liked that is because the first time I saw the episode, I said, "Yes. Yes he does" (because he had in "Enter MacBeth"). Ten years later, I finally realized the significance of this, in that it showed that the staff for the first two seasons actually paid attention to even the smallest details (most of them). Thailog could laugh maniacally because one of his fathers knew how.

Wow, thanks for stopping by, Coyote. It's great to see familiar faces back again every once in a while. Thanks also for that bit about the Nelsons' surname; I'd either forgotten about it or missed it entirely during Breakdowns for Season Three.

While I'm at it, a few other sources of names for "Pendragon":

Henry and Minnie Watkins (a married British couple whom I had turn up from time to time as recurring background characters - I imagined them as almost a counterpart to the yuppie couple in "Gargoyles" as the civilian couple who'd frequently find themselves at ground zero during Arthur's London adventures) were named after Henry Crun and Minnie Bannister from the Goon Show, a decidedly oddball BBC radio series from the 1950's. They were a couple of supporting characters, who, while not married, generally appeared together. (One of my favorite scenes involving them was when Minnie was watching someone put up a lamppost outside their house and Henry was disapproving of her watching the man. Leading to this piece of dialogue:

MINNIE: Why are you so jealous, Henry? You're not the man I used to know.

HENRY (sharply) Who was this man you used to know?

MINNIE: It was you!

HENRY: You used to know me?

When Minnie replies in the affirmative, Henry promptly becomes extremely jealous.)

Aper (a wild-boar-like gargoyle in the London clan, slain in the Second Unseelie War) got his name from the Latin word for "boar". (Which does have the minor drawback that somebody could misread it and think that he should have looked more like an ape of some sort, but never mind.)

Brock's name was taken from a British "folk-name" for badgers, due to his badger-like appearance. The odd thing about it is that in T. H. White's Arthurian fiction, one of Merlin's friends is a very scholarly badger who helps him teach the young Arthur many things, and the two of them (alongside a few other animals) even have another tutelary session with King Arthur on the eve of the last battle with Mordred, in the badger's den (which is identified as the place where Nimue locked up Merlin). Now I'm wondering if Brock was subconsciously influenced by White's Badger.

Somebody else came up with Braddock's name (I forget whom - it might have been Foggy, who came up with him as the Gerard-equivalent for our "Fugitive" arc, or Kathy, who wrote the scenes introducing him in "Seeds of Change"), but I had an odd little creativity demon about his being descended from Sir Edward Braddock, a British general killed in the American colonies during the early stages of the Seven Years' War, who was a mentor to the young George Washington. Yes, it might seem odd to have a fictional character descended from a real historical figure, but "Gargoyles" had done just that with the Canmores - and, for that matter, "Babylon 5" had Captain Sheridan descended from the Civil War general of that name.

Just took a brief look at the CR that I haven't seen in a while. Good to hear folks are still enjoying TGS, and especially good when an ep that I worked on is appreciated ... thank you Spen. I might note, FYI, if you hadn't figured it out yet, that while yes, Henry and Jane were named after Henry VIII and Jane Seymour, their *last* name was taken from a more heroic figure of British history, Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson. (This was alluded to during "My Angel, Brianna" when Jane walks through Trafalgar Square on her way home)

Just thought I'd drop by. Back to married life ...

Spen: I think stealing a wallet (that conceivably contains a driver's license, social security card, or other pieces of ID) would ultimately be more incriminating. Besides, I didn't kill the CR. It was dead when I took the eyes out. That's the rule. Only harvest from dead people. Although, in the case of the Spammer, I was happy to break that rule. I would ask if anyone's run into him lately, but a more accurate question would be if he's run into them (heh, heh, heh).

SPEN - I don't think that there's any actual rule about being here for three months to become a member, but congratulations, anyway.

[I wasn't trying to start a debate about that, I just had a question about why the room cleared so early.]

I know. I was just commenting that once we'd finished talking about that, the room became dead due to a lack of topics.

[Well, there is a slight problem with that, whenever there's an interesting debate, it always turns into a flame war. So, for the safty of the room, it's necsesary to have boring one to two post debates.]

I don't think that it's inevitable that interesting discussions degenerate into flame wars. The problem stems, not from the inherent nature of such discussions, but because individual posters get too sensitive and lose their tempers. If we can stay calm during these talks and not start flaming each other, there shouldn't be any problem.

What probably helped kill the room was that the main topic after the Top Ten was over was about the room-wiping schedule, which didn't have much potential for a long-running conversation.

As I've mentioned before, the best way to keep the comment room going is to come up with topics that can last much longer than a couple of posts, and post about them in such a way as to encourage responses; in other words, come up with posts that have a "Hunter's Moon" quality about them rather than an "Angels in the Night" quality about them.
