And to finish up my con journal.

But first about the hotel. Boy, those were low shower heads. When will they discover that things built for the average man are too small for half the population?

And I forget when, but at some point after a quick ckeck of the Othercon art, Benny Weisman decided to go for a peek. Luckily Greg Bishansky and someone else (forgot who) caught him, since I was being my usual oblivious self.

So, sunday. After checkout and breakfast, I decided to see if I couldn't spectate Win Xanatos's Money, but Aaron convinced me to take the pretest. Should be a used car salesman, that man. Surprise of surprises, I was in, against two fic writers whose work was the subject of some of the questions (Ellen and Alexandria). My strategy was to see if I couldn't figure it out from, see if they others' lack of answer would give me a hint, then take a guess. Managed to kill the Mulder question on a guess, chose a British name for another because of a spanner in the question, and the only one I killed by memory was on Norcumi. Went into finals with a $100 lead, and I was pretty sure I wouldn't get it. It turned out that no one wagered anything, so I won it. I probably should have put down something to let the better woman win.
After that was Creating Original properties, where Greg showed off a couple promos (one a repeat under another name from '03). Then I hung out in the art room (with Revel, Spacebabie, Emambu, Winterwolf, Dreamie, and a few others), helping to take hooks out of pegboard, except to check out how the bidding went on Thom's pants.
I don't remember much about Closing Ceremonies, but afterward Revel and Spacebabie let me come with them back to the main hotel (having handed in my room key already), where they had a little discussion that I was a slight sounding board for. Then it was off to the con suite where they had a little mating ceremony.
Nothing left to do after that but waste time until my flight out at midnight, arrived in Newark at 8, then the monorail to the train and the train back to Redbank (and a ride back home).

Took me long enough to finish. Let's see if I can't post more frequently without that hanging over me.

Na zdrorov'ya.

Spen: I can wait until your email calms down. And those lists are the sort I could use- especially objects. I'm trying to draw up a compendium of certain things, including books, magic objects, and magical books/scrolls/spells that appear throughout TGS, and the eps they appear in. Anything, no matter how minimal, is a help.

Guan: Has there been any thought to organizing a comic hub if SLG doesn't have local supply locations? Like, having one person overseas take in money for a number of overseas fandom orders, buying 20 or so of the comics, and sending the issues out to the individuals who bought them? I don't know if it would be cheaper; someone ought to do the math, but it seems like one package sent overseas would cost less than twenty individual ones. Of course, if there are overseas distributors, this is all moot...but it might be worth at least considering.

DPH: For college graduation, my mom got me a cannon powershot sd 300. its 4 mega pix and really small. but it takes sooo cool pics. she bought it online, at i think dell or hp's website (there was some sorta hookup there) and it came with a memory card of 256mb. the best part is i've gotten over 170 pics on that card, with room to spare. it has a usb cable that i just plug from the port on the comp to the camera itself and drag and drop the pics onto my desktop. easy pie. i think it ran maybe 300$, with the card, but those cards are dropping CONSTANTLY. its a compact flash card (the little flat ones) and there are the bigger ones (about 1 in. square) and the little ones (about half that). the little ones are more expensive, cause theyre new, but the bigger ones are really dropping so fast in price, and as the little ones get more common, then they will drop alot too. and i think, beyond the camera, the card is the next biggest expense (well, beyond printing, obviously). but like i said, it stores alot and i only needed one. the camera can also take lil thirty second movies, and takes way clear pics. you just have to hold still is all. but even then, ive gotten good pics without being stone still. it can also zoom 11x digitally, and still come out pretty focused.

anything by canon, i think is pretty great. the highest quality ones will obviously kill your wallet, but even these little cheaper ones are good too. :D good luck!

DPH:> If you just want it for uploading pictures to the web and you don't care about making print enlargements bigger than 8 x 10, most of the "entry level" digital cameras wil do. Many review sites are recommending the Cannon A510 for about $200. (click my name for a link to one of those review sites)

Yo, guys, just checkign in. I finished my summer session on Friday, the 12th. Ended up with a C in World Literature 1 and a B in Productions Operations Management. I bought a bunch of stuff off of ebay and am looking to pick up a digital camera now, but I feel . . out of my league. The big thing I want is the ability to upload the pics directly to my pc, and I don't want to spend a lot of money. Any suggestions on what I should be looking at acquiring?

Re: COMIC COSTS

It's a small price to pay, to have a piece of the new comic, I think... I mean, isn't Gargoyles in any format worth it? ^_^

Just FYI - I've posted two commentaries in my LiveJournal -- one on the first part of "Awakenings" and another one on "The Batman" series (considering Greg Weisman did some work on it, I had to check it out further!). I've also put in my latest post the makings of the start of a new contest thingy.

For a bit of fun, go over and take a stab at my Gargoyles Monthly Caption Contest! ^_^

Guandalug la'Fay>Actually, the SLG store was the first thing I checked out. Problem is, their minimum shipping cost is $4 per order. The comic is $3.50, which means a minimum cost of $7.50 per issue. That's almost prohibitively expensive on my income (I'm a college student who moonlights as a KFC worker. Believe me I feel every cent I spend.)

But then, it's only 7.50 every two months. Won't completely break the bank--just hurt a little. Like a stabbing pain in the wallet muscle.

"I'd like to see what you have in your encyclopedia." Umm, I'm not sure if that would be possible. My e-mail has been acting up a *lot* lately. Anyway, it isn't really anything more than a list of characters, places, and objects, and what episodes they appear in. It will have detailed entries later, at which point I will post it on my (hopefully)soon to be completed website.

The more I think about it, "Kingdom" actually serves as a great divider, particularly because of its ending. I don't know if they planned for it to be the halfway point of the 52 episodes of the second season, or if it's a coincidence, but it's still pretty cool. But Volume 1 basically ends with a great deal of maturing on the part of Brooklyn's character, and the clan resolving to keep hope alive until Goliath comes back. And then close to the beginning of Volume 2 (the second episode), we'll have Goliath learning the purpose behind the World Tour, and the resolution to stick it out.

I'm wondering how many reviews we can get on amazon.com before the release date. I think last year we broke 100, let's see if we can do it again. I'll probably be posting mine on my next day off.

Lynati : Thanks for letting us know about HS3.

While I'm playing "re-ask annoying questions that no one besides me are intrested in" Is Mr. Jaffe's first name Sam, or Ian? (I need to know for my TGS Encyclopedia)

Ed : Welcome back!

Todd : Well, I certainly never had the impression that you had to be an Arthurian scholar to work on "Pendragon" (heck, even if that was a requierment, I probably would fall under that catagory.) Anyway, I don't really think that "Pendragon" being about the London clan would really have made much differance. After all, "Dark Ages" certainly doesn't have a large staff, and it's about the Wyvern clan. So obviously, just becouse a series centers on a gargoyle clan, it won't necessarily have people rushing to write about it.

Harvester : "As I've said to a few people who are deliberately avoiding the series because it doesn't have Goliath, they don't know what they're missing." I feel the same way about "Dark Ages".

Starsinger : "For those interested in what would have happened if America had launched a version of D-day in Japan, the History channel will be airing that special tonight." Too bad I don't have the History channel.

This is an extra thought that I had about yesterday's discussion over the leading difficulty that we had working on "Pendragon" in TGS, though before I say anything more about this, I need to make a brief announcement.

*WARNING! SEASON FOUR SPOILERS BELOW - DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED READING THAT SEASON YET!*

That's for Harvester of Eyes' sake. At any rate, I remember getting yet another one of those responses when I was asking for feedback on the beginning outline for "Home for the Holidays", of "I'm sorry, but I don't know enough about King Arthur to help you out". I wonder now what sort of response I might have gotten if I'd replied to that with "Don't think of this as a story about Arthurian mythology. Think of it as a story about a young girl and her terminally ill boy-friend spending Christmas at her father's house." But I'm afraid that I'll never know the answer to that one.

HARVESTER - Thanks for your remarks on "Choices", and I'm glad that you enjoyed it.

Demona was a relatively late addition to the story, but (ironically) preceded the core concept of "Choices". Even before we officially began Season Four Breakdowns for "Pendragon", Bishansky and I were discussing ideas for it, and he brought up the idea of an encounter between Merlin and Demona, of rhe sort that you saw. I liked the idea, but then when we began working on "Choices" (which originated from the simple fact that a Grail Quest arc would *have* to include a visit to Glastonbury at some point), we developed the Arthur-Duval encounter which struck me as so close to Bishansky's Merlin meeting Demona proposal that I decided that we'd have to drop the latter to avoid it seeming repetitive. However, I still found myself liking the idea so much that I finally decided to salvage it as a sub-plot to "Choices".

The religious element of the Grail Quest was one thing that we always had to take great care with, to avoid alienating part of the audience. It may have helped that Ed and I (who were responsible for almost all of the Breakdowns and writing for that part of "Pendragon") had different enough attitudes as to balance each other out; I'm a Christian and he's an atheist. We therefore took a path of neither confirming nor denying the Grail's links to Christianity. (As a side-note, the earliest extant accounts of the Holy Grail make it just a wonder-working object with no specific religious connotations; the notion of it being the cup that Jesus drank from at the Last Supper came along later.)

Thank you for your concern, Todd. But as long as he remembers to put up a SPOILER warning, Ed can talk about them all he wants.

Ed might have noticed that I haven't really been doing the same for my comments, but that's only because I think I'm one of the few people in the CR who hasn't read the entire series and has an interest to do so. As I've said to a few people who are deliberately avoiding the series because it doesn't have Goliath, they don't know what they're missing. Great example of this is "Choices," which I finished earlier today.

Duval is certainly a complex character. As we saw in "Iris, Lily, and Rose," apparently not even he can keep the other members of the society from acting rashly at times. I genuinely believe it wasn't his intent for Arthur to get dosed with that mnemiotic drug. But by the same token, he knew what the Quarrymen were doing and he allowed the society to fund that organization. And again, I like the idea of letting the reader in on things that the characters aren't fully aware of. We know who Duval is, but Arthur still has his doubts, and those are well-founded, due to the fact that the actions of the organization run by Duval are hardly the shining example of chivalry that Lancelot was known for. Which made the fact that Arthur called Duval by his real name at the end that much more interesting. It should be interesting to see where this goes. I remember the story "Things Fall Apart" ending with the idea that even if you supposedly control the world, there are still some things that you can't control. But that's for another discussion.

I was surprised to see Demona, but at the same time, couldn't complain. I was honestly not expecting her to seek Merlin out. And now, since this story takes place after the Council, I can't help but wonder what other options she has left. Guess we won't know that until Gargoyles Season Four sees daylight (if it does). The thing I enjoyed most about this subplot, though, was the idea that even the teacher can learn from the student.

I'm not an extremely pious person, so faith is a touchy subject with me. But I liked how it was handled in this story, with Arthur's reflection upon the underlying nature of the Grail Quest, and how the main goal is to test a person within. But we weren't hit over the head with it. If I ever compile a Top Ten list for each TGS Series, "Choices" would definitely be a contender.
