This message is for Tharos, because he doesn't seem to be online at the moment. I found out that the Legendary Guitar Players series is doing a few concerts at a venue in Glen Allen this fall (near where I live). The October 7th concert is going to feature Genesis alumnus Steve Hackett. I don't know if you've had the pleasure of hearing any of Hackett's Genesis work yet, but I'm quite glad he's coming to my area. Hopefully, I can make it down there.

Ok, so I was wrong 'bout the lot boys. *Makes a mark on a chart* That's only the 6th mistake of the year.

I'm sitting here wathing my fiancee sleep, at almost 11am, and I still don't get it. How can people sleep this much? I can't stand sleep. I only sleep because I have to, and only enogh to be effective for two days *in case i get very little sleep between the two days*. This usually ammounts to about 6 hours a day. It's been nearly 13 hours since we went to bed, and I've been up for the last 5 hours. I just don't get it. what's the big attraction with sleep? I mean, if you get paid for it, then great. but to just....sleep....seems pointless. Anyway....

OH well, I'm going to go find something to get all worked up about.

Alright, everything's sorta normal (sorta normal because I'm not sure if things ever were normal) by now with my pc. Why wouldn't they be? I "upgraded" my os to xp home edition so that I can install vb.net so I can do homework at home for my vb.net class. I barely meet system requirements (I had bare bones ram) so I bought 256 meg of ram. Unfortunately, despite bringing my pc to the store, I had to return the initial ram I bought for my pc and exchange it for ram that worked. What's funny is I specifically asked the salesperson if the ram I was buying would fit my pc and my pc was nearby to make sure. [All this occurred at office depot; I don't trust WalMart to buy computer parts and, unfortunately, in my city, Office Depot has the biggest computer accessories and software inventory.] [What does it take to make sure you buy ram that will fit your pc the 1st time if bringing your pc with you won't work or should the salesperson, to answer my concerns, have asked me to open the case of my pc and examined the memory slots to make sure I didn't have a return?] Oh yea, I should have mentioned something. I could afford to do these upgrades thanks to financial aid money arriving yesterday. The aforementioned upgrade in my os cost me my saved internet cookies and I had make my browser find my old bookmark list. I also bought a 512 megabyte jump drive, mainly to help with my database class and aforementioned vb.net class; it's a pain being limited by 1.44 megabytes of data at a time. I'm looking to buy a digital camera, now that I have the money; I'm tempted to "draft" one of my college professors to help with that purchase because I don't have confidence in makign a good decision.

My schedule stinks. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, I have *1* class at 12 noon. Tuesdays and Thursday, I have 3 classes: starting at the stupid hour of 8am with a break from 9:15 to 10:50, then going on to 1:30pm. Needless to say, talking with me on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the next few weeks may result in extremely incoherent conversations. Next week it gets worse as I will be required to be observed spending 5 hours per week studying on campus. All the while, I'm trying to balance out so I have time 2-3 times per week to spend ~2 hours working out.

Meanwhile, I'm still faced with the uncertainity of knowing exactly how many classes I have to take until I can graduate. I can't do my spring schedule very well until I know for sure what I have left to take to graduate. Also, I can't do my spring schedule without knowing for sure what's going to be offered during which summer sessions.

Yes, I will rant on this from tiem to time until I get answers. Hopefully next week I can get in touch with somebody who can give me answers to my questions.

As I type this, I'm doing the required "upgrades" after installing Windows XP home edition. Yesterday, I think I had a grand total of 4 hours of sleep and it showed. When I got home and stopped messing with my pc, after eating, I slept for 6 hours, waking up ~12:30am. Then I stayed up some more, trying to fix my pc, getting more to eat and settling down to sleep ~3am. I slept virtually non-stop from then to 10am. One thing is on my mind this weekend: sleep . . and getting those damn upgrades accomplished as fast as humanly possible. If you've tried emailing these past few days, there's probably a good reason why in heck I haven't responded.

What else is new? I don't remember if I've mentioned this, but my county sbc campgrounds have taken in over 150 . . . (I don't like the word refugees, get to that later in this post) displaced residents of Lousiana.

What's with me and the word "refugee"? Up until now, I always associated refugees as people overseas who left an area because of political/military conflicts. To say we have refugees in America . . it just doesn't feel right. To say "victims of Hurricane Katrina" feels too broad. In a sense, hurricane katrina touched all of over lives, regardless of where we lived. We felt it at the gas point when prices ridiculously sky rocketed to $3.00/barrel. We feel because federal money is continiously being poured to repair the damage. (contrary to misconceptions, federal money doesn't magically appear out of nowhere; either we pay taxes to pay for it or the us government borrows money to pay for it.)

I'm not watching the giant fundraiser, because, frankly, I don't have any money to give. I'm already sick of the daily coverage of how we're dealing with the aftermath of the hurricane. Not much will change from day to day. I'm only interested in notes about progress reports going on for big items.

Meanwhile, my guaranteed parking at uca went *poof* as I discovered my high school student congress (who was working at the college abs) got a job in El Dorado as a pastor. So much for being able to park on the grass when all else fails without getting a ticket.

I got a question about sending my money for the gathering. Is it ok if I send either a money order or a cashier's check? I'd rather not send a personal check as it will drive me nuts when I suddenly see my bank balance drop. I guess that answers the question about whether or not I plan on attending the gathering. I might bring with me a burnt cd of the tgs theme songs and the official gargoyles music I have downloaded.

Let's see. I have posted enough for now? Probably not. It's off to eat and work out more stuff to type in this post.

Nevermind, this is a good place to end this post.

On the same note, there are several Ask Greg posts complaining about not being to find the Mayan temple on a map.

As for "Tempation" I always though Demona told Brooklyn to take his time out of "politeness". She still needed him to consider her his friend. After all, she dropped that pretty quickly once it wasn't neccessary to manipulate Brooklyn anymore.

My point was that "Ussex" sounds more English than Scottish; it would be like giving a made-up English village or shire a very Scottish-sounding name (or Welsh-sounding or Irish-sounding, for that matter). (Not to mention that giving a fictional Scottish region a very English-sounding name could offend a lot of Scotsmen.)

Aaand I was just saying that since "gargoyles" already has a number of "made up" places in its continuity (Castle Wyvern, Avalon, Atlantis) that one more that sounded as though it belonged in the UK was understandable. I never said it was correct.

Greg> The "Ussex" discussion started with Todd talking about that particular line sometimes being misheard:

Ussex?

Um, I believe Xanatos's line in Awakening was "I first learned about the castle and 'you six' from an ancient book that recently came into my collection."

I don't believe there is such a place as Ussex even in Gargoyles continuity.

Todd: Ah yes, but the non-existant "Ussex" could have been the region in which "Castle Wyvern" was located; after all, Wyvern isn't any more real. To anyone without a deeper knowledge of England beyond the fact that London is a city there, it comes off as believable if mis-heard that way.

HARVESTER - While Demona is scarcely a model of honesty, I've generally gone by the theory of "If a character says something in 'Gargoyles' and it isn't explicitly contradicted by the end of 'The Journey' then it's most likely true". Demona might have been lying about the real reason for why she wanted Brooklyn to take his time, but that was never confirmed, the way that other lies in the series (such as Xanatos claiming that the eggs were all gone or Demona claiming that she'd been under the Magus's spell of stone sleep) were proven to be false. And it *does* fit in with what Greg's said about magic in the Gargoyle Universe being extremely complicated and tricky to master.

Re the Cloisters line: Yes, I forgot to include that bit. (I also forgot to say anything in the Tidbits section of "Awakening Part Two" about some viewers misinterpreting Xanatos's addressing the gargoyles as "you six" to believe that Castle Wyvern originally stood in a place called "Ussex" - which doesn't make sense, because the only regions in the British Isles whose names end with "-sex" are ones in southeastern England, such as Essex, Sussex, and Middlesex, far from Scotland.) Maybe I'll revise those sections later on, once I've gotten the whole thing done.

I was surprised, incidentally, to discover that people had misinterpreted that remark of Brooklyn's in such a fashion. It always struck me as obvious that he was alluding to the gargoyles' origins in 10th century Scotland, since the Cloisters is a museum dedicated to medieval art. Had those people in the audience really forgotten about the series' opening set in 994? Or did the word "world" throw them? This is another fan-misinterpretation that simply doesn't make any sense to me.

Todd: I read your comments on "Temptation." I was always under the impression that Demona told Brooklyn to take his time in bringing Goliath so she'd be able to peruse the Grimorum and find more spells that might be useful to her future plans. Before it wipes back to the castle, we see her flipping through the book, and then of course later on she tears some pages out of it.

Granted, she probably was counting on her plan in that episode succeeding, but she has been around for over 1,000 years and in that time probably learned the importance of having a contingency. If I had to guess, I'd say at least two of the spells she took were the one that she and Xanatos used to resurrect Coldstone, and the one she used to summon Puck.

One interesting fact about what Brooklyn said to Goliath about the Cloisters being like the world they came from which I'm surprised wasn't in the tidbits section was that the line was one of the things fueling the internet rumor (which Greg has said is nothing more than a rumor) that gargoyles are from another planet.

Harvester : "I'm surprised George Bush didn't fly into the Superdome a few days ago and announce "Mission Acomplished!" But I bet if he did, he'd have been shot at." Yeah, he probably would be. Which wouldn't be a very good thing, since then we'd have three years of president Cheney. *shudders*

HARVESTER - I'm glad that you liked "Dinas Bran". The core concept was influenced by "Outfoxed", incidentally, with Arthur and Taliesin in the roles of Goliath and Renard respectively (though Surtur's role as antagonist does feel to me now a little more artificial than Fox's role was in the Gargoyles episode). And, yep, I couldn't resist including the revelation at the end over the true fate of Bran's Cauldron.

It's harder to answer your question about Rory, except that the notion of his berserker side didn't get brought up until Season Three Breakdowns, after "The Darkest Hour" was written, so naturally we didn't address it anywhere in Season Two. (I wonder if you noticed the line about "Why couldn't his alter ego have been Thor?" That was one remark that I just couldn't resist including - or, for that matter, Merlin's confrontation with Surtur being designed as, in part, a parody of Gandalf versus the Balrog in the Lord of the Rings).

One point about Macbeth hating the Shakespeare play: that's strictly a TGS (and fanfiction in general) idea, though based on an assumption that seemed reasonable to us at the time. However, Greg Weisman's own comments on the subject are that Macbeth was amused, rather than offended, by the play, and that Shakespeare was even a friend of his (though Macbeth never revealed his true identity to the Bard). Indeed, the fact that Macbeth uses an alias borrowed from the play - Lennox Macduff - suggests that he can't have disliked it so very much.

Bad day today. Today was one of my days on at the pizza place, and I think everyone forgot that it was a holiday. That, or they could be trying to conserve their money in light of the gasoline shortage. But I think this unlikely. There are cheaper places than Pizza Hut that they can call to have deliver (and order something of much better quality). Anyway, I delivered about sixteen orders in eight hours, and the average tip I got for each house was two dollars. There was one nice guy who gave me a five and said he was sorry I had to work on Labor Day. He ruled. Ah, well, things could be worse. At least I managed to hear about all the relief that some people have raised so far on my local news station. Which reminds me, I have to see if that truck is still parked in my shopping center, so's I can drop some shirts off. I've had my Emperor Palpatine T-Shirt for almost eight years, but it's time he got a new apprentice. Speaking of the dark side, I'm surprised George Bush didn't fly into the Superdome a few days ago and announce "Mission Acomplished!" But I bet if he did, he'd have been shot at. No, wait. I don't bet. I know.

I don't know if anyone here likes Rennaissance Fairs, but the one in Maryland (just outside of Annapolis) is very well done. I've actually been going to it for a few years, but missed it during the 2002, 2003, and 2004 seasons. So it was good to be back this year. The fairgrounds are sort of half-in, half-out of a wooded area, so the setting is quite nice (and helps add to the mood). They have a couple of different stages and a few taverns, so you can get a program at the gates and basically plan what acts you want to see. One of my personal favorites is this troupe of comedians called Shakespeare's Skum, who basically put on satirical performances of Shakespeare (in half-an-hour). The act I particularly got a kick out of was "Macbeth in 20 Minutes or Less." Though I couldn't help but wonder what the Macbeth of the Gargoyles universe would think of such a production (he already hates the real play). Another thing I discovered from my four-year absence was that this band of Scottish bagpipers called the Rogues had lost one of their original members. His name was Brian the Belligerent, and apparently he was too good at his job, as my cousin put it. The group still sounds good, but I will miss the way Brian constantly slammed the English. Ah, well. Still a good time. I might have to make two trips next year (it is pretty sizable; you really have to pick and choose, and seeing one show usually means missing another you want to see).

Todd: I finished reading "Dinas Bran" about a week ago, but everyone's life has been crazy lately. It's funny. I remember Arthur questioning in a previous story whether or not he'd be worthy to achieve the Grail, given the sins he committed during his reign. But the first step to redemption is knowing you've sinned, and experiencing sorrow within your heart because of that. While the past is the past, amends can be made in the present. I enjoyed how that idea played out between Arthur and Taliesin, but without the reader being whacked over the head by it. Also enjoyed that little note at the end, about the Cauldron, for the fans. There is one thing I'm not clear about. This is the second time Rory has turned into Cuchullain and gone into a berserk rage. When he was aiding Arthur in the Unseelie Conflict in "The Darkest Hour," had he not completely changed during that battle? Because if he had, it would have seemed like an ideal time for rage to overtake him. But if I remember that story correctly, whenever we saw action in London, he was described as being halfway between Rory and Cuchallain, and not entirely either one. Just something I noticed. Anyway, I'm in the process of reading the next story. Hopefully, it won't take me as long to post on that one.

Here we go again: Another update - and again, it's new stuff by Todd Jensen. To quote him: "Four new episode commentary/reviews as a Labor Day present for the GFW." - it's "Leader of the Pack", "Metamorphosis", "Legion" and "A Lighthouse in the Sea of Time". Additionally, I added the missing Overviews (3 of those lacked an overview). As a rule, I'm going to add an overview whenever I upgrade a story page without one from now on, so there'll be no more mentions of new overviews (unless one of YOU does them, of course :)
