Gside: Lmao. That's all. Nuff said. :D Electromagnetic CANDY!

*SERENITY SPOILERS***************
Just got back from it. was pretty neat. The thing that really bothered me tho was their manner of speaking. It just really really bothered me that they were talking like Oklahoma cowboys of 1850...but...they're on a spaceship. My friend who went with me said that its just part of the feel, but still...language evolves...and it doesn't really go backwards. It just didn't fit.

Other than that it looked sooo cool!

****END SPOILERS*****************

Jacob: whoa.. ok. cool.
As for CNN...I heard about the mass graves thing. They were talking about it too. I feel like they've been doing ok lately. *shrugs*

HoE> The really funny thing about this fundie thinking "Gargoyles" is Satanic and loving "Beast Wars" (which was also a very good show) is that "Beast Wars" promoted evolution... and usually people that fanatical think evolution mocks God or some shit like that.

I just came from amazon.com. Apparently, someone erased that fundamentalist's review. No clue how that might have happened, but as with most fundamentalists, there's still no shutting him up. The amusing thing is, he calls us cowards, and yet his Amazon profile contains no contact information whatsoever. Which is unfortunate, because there are a few more points I'd like to make to him, that just cannot be made in a place as public as amazon.com.

I am also surprised that he seems to love Transformers Beast Wars. I've never seen it, but I can just imagine from the name (like he's done with the Gargoyles DVD cover design) that it might be something containing Satanic imagery. Fundamentalists: most of them would be a lot funnier if they weren't so pathetic. Ah, what the hell, I'll laugh anyway!

*Spen walks in, tierd as Hades.*

I apologize in advance for any incorherancy in this post, I just got back home and really should be getting to bed now.

Lynati : "annoying newbies" Example: me.

Lady Mystic : "data was intentionally deleted" That could very well be it. After all, that was the week with the Rene/Satan buissness.
An additonal note: In the consalidated archive, the week of 1/31/05-2/7/05 is missing.

Dezi : "When/where was Wilma?" Congrats, you're now eligable to be the next Lemony Snicket.

In case anyones interested, a bit about my personal life : Tonight was the semi-annual "fiftes & sixtes night" at the Moose lodge. Surprisingly, I won the Twist contest.

*looks around* I think that's all for now, see ya.

Bzzzzt, wrawng! ;)
Wilma does not yet exist - the storm that will become "Wilma" it she gets big enough is still called Tropical Depression Twenty-Four and is hanging out straight south of Florida, moving west, and can be seen here (ooo, live satelite):
http://www.goes.noaa.gov/browsh.html
(this picture is updated every 1/2 hour so check the time of the post before you start yelling at me that it's a hurricane already ;))

As of now, you can see it's starting to develop some banding but lacks an eye. The predictions seem to be saying the storm will continue to move slowly west and strengthen into atleast a named Tropical Storm, which also might take a detour to the north. (Though also, it might not - apparently the steering currents are weak at this point so it's mostly just sitting around getting bigger and better organized before it decides where to go.)

However as Silvadel mentioned, it is true that the NEXT named storm that develops this season WILL have to be called "Alpha" and then "Beta" and so forth, because there are only 21 names assigned for each year. And, as far as I know, this is second time they've come this close to running out. I think this is the earliest formation of the 24th storm though, and official "hurricane season" doesn't run out until the end of November.
... Incidentally, the last Hurricane, "Vince" (the first named "V" storm ever) formed waaaaay the heck over on the other side of the Atlantic and made landfall, I think, in Spain, which is the first time that's ever happened too, methinks.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Vince

There are a few "tropical waves" on the go currently as well, but they don't seem to have conditions favourable to development rignt now - at least not that the NHC is saying anything about - so we may have to wait a bit for "Alpha" to make an appearence.

Dezi> CNN wouldn't really be on this because it's not really a story yet, and I also imagine CNN doesn't give much of a crap if hurricanes hit anyplace other than the States. I don't think the entire villages in Guatemala that they had to declare "mass graves" because they had been entirely wiped out by the flooding and huge mudslides caused by "Stan" were mentioned much either.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4326650.stm

All this hurricane information is from http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ - which I check several times a day (along with http://www.iris.edu/seismon/) because I find how weather and geological processes work so amazing that I think sometimes I should have chosen a different career path... :P

You want some off-topic banter? There is a tropical depression a little off the gulf that if it becomes a tropical storm as predicted will actually have the name Tropical Storm Alpha because they ran out of names for the atlantic hurricaine season...

***** TGS CR ARCHIVE UPDATE & COMMENTS *****

The 2005 TGS CR Archive has been updated to include the weeks of September 12, 2005 through October 10, 2005, for a total of four newly added files.

2005 Archive:

Framed Archive:

Consolidated Archive:

Again, please keep in mind that the framed and consolidated versions of the CR Archive are tentative. Please let me know which version of the archive (original, framed or consolidated) you prefer. You may post your answer in the CR or email me via the following webpage address.

Spen: Thank you for posting your opinion of which version you prefer. Thank you for informing me that the week of 12/20/99 - 12/26/99 is incomplete. I am currently trying to track down my old backup CDs to confirm what the original file entailed and to determine if data was intentionally deleted or if the forum was down due to server problems, the latter of which was common back then. I will post more on this matter as soon as I find my old files and old emails with TGS staffers. Thank you for pointing out this inconsistency.

"Gargoyles" hasn't come out with many new eps in much longer, and yet s8 is more active than here. People use the CR's to talk about more than the show, and yes, while the lack of TGS eps is- obviously- the main reason for the slow activity here, the fact that many of the posters no longer need this board to be the hub of their friend circles has added to the slowdown. There were days when people posted here discussing things that had nothing to do with TGS; the fact that TGS is not actively posting eps wouldn't keep them from continuing to post here on all such unrelated topics. They leave for all sorts of reasons...They've found better suited places to talk, ones that are less prone to annoying newbies and random flame wars. They've gotten board with the fandom and moved on to the next best thing. They've gotten to busy with their lives, work, and relationships. They come here, find they don't know any of the posters any more and don't know where to find the ones they did know, and they leave. Would having new eps here to discuss help? Probably. But not everyone who reads here, posts here.

Spen: probably not the only one, no. But Aaron, Mara, and myself all have them- along with a large number of gargs fandom people who haven't ever posted *here* on a regular basis. That's one of the reasons movement in the CR has slowed down since 2002-ish (certainly not the only reason, but definately one) - people now had a private forum to talk about their lives in that they may have either not been comfortable putting in a purely public place, or, like me, felt that they were spamming the room with constant accounts of daily life and got an LJ as a means to have a place other than the CR in which to post it all.

The Antarctic clan get a small role in "Black and White" as hosts to Arthur and his companions, but none of them apart from Cole get named in the story. (The one significant revelation that we made about them there was that a few of their number were eaten by the Fenris-wolf during the SUW, which doesn't much endear them towards the great grey wolf.)

Only episode where the Antarctic clan is referenced (as far as I could find it) is "The Council" (http://tgs.n3.net/garg/83.html and the next two)
We've got a Pendragon episode playing in Antarctica, but that one revolves around Fenris, and I didn't see any other Gargoyles (besides Griff) being mentioned.... Nevertheless, it's "Black and White" (http://tgs.n3.net/pend/49.html)

And a quick rant at four in the morning: I think all pharmacutical (sp?) companies should be shot and cut up and then buried in a very deep hole. They gouge the prices of their medicines so that only the richest can afford them...usually when the insurance company is in league to part you with your money faster than you can blink.
(Said rant comes from the fact that medicine I take costs me $75 a bottle...that's one month, folks...and that's a $75 co-pay negotiated through the insurance...)
At this moment I think I hate capitalism.

Woohoo! I too have an LJ...Mine's been going since around the year 2000 or so. (But not under the CR name of LA)
Spacebabie<<Kinda glad I wasn't reading CR when you posted spoilers. I came to Firefly really late in the game. Saw half ep when it was aired on FOX. My Bro-in-law recently gave us the entire series on DVD and my husband and I have watched it religiously (all the way through almost twice) and we were overjoyed that the movie actually came out at a theater near us! (Blessings be to Harkins Theaters that are NOT in Phoenix!) Our car's transmission is in it's death throws and would not sustain the trip, thereby causing us much weeping on the account of not seeing the movie and then --BING--it was magically nearby and all were edified.
The movie rocked. Cept I was pissed to lose a crew member. But I also think Joss Whedon is awesome for writing character deaths. I have A LOT of respect for people that kill off characters that fans love. Because it adds that horribly acrid realistic quality to the story universe.
[Thinking now of buying the 'Joss Whendon is my Master Now' t-shirt off thinkgeek.com. Like that it mocks Star Wars. Don't get me wrong, I like Star Wars but 'Serenity/Firefly' is a whole lot more fun. And it's the only Joss related shirt I've seen so far!]

Livejournals: Add me to the list. I've had mine for a while, like year and a half. My main reason for one is that I have a lot of friends from Illinois, from back home, from Chicago and sorts that I don't get to or can't afford to talk to on the phone. I don't get to go back home as often as I'd like, and when I do, my non-l.j RL family get in my way. So I post stuff in my LJ (sometimes stuff in a manner I wouldn't tell my gramma anyway) to my friends, and read theirs to keep up on life. That, and in RL, my friend made me get one cause she says I talk to much and too fast and this way she can figure me out at her own speed. :)

Spen: As far as keeping up with friends, I just have to click on my "friends" option, and all of their entries are listed in the order of creation. Everyone gets avatars, and you can assign different colors to their names and stuff, so you can tell at a glance who's who.

As far as CR people, Green Baron, Hellcat (who doesn't really post in here much anymore) and GregX are on my list. Others are welcome, if you feel so inclined to my weirdass personal life.

I don't really think it interferes with me, personally, posting in here. The stuff I type in my LJ is stuff that sometimes people won't get unless they are up on me all the time. Old friends, people I see alot, that don't have to have a lot of back story sometimes. My posts in here are either Garg related (and, to that end, alot of my friends on LJ wouldn't know Demona from Broadway). Or, if not Garg related, then current psuedo topic related. *shrugs*

Gside: Weeeeee! I'm thinking I wanna get some styrofoam or whatever and make my own one so it can sit on my table. That would be cool! ...hhhhmmmmmm.... But yeah, my pals and I have had some good conversations on the matter, like I love how he's in such an obviously alien world, but his words are so laced with earth pop culture. Or, for that matter, when the aliens try to repeat the pop culture. Those times I wanna die laughing! I want them to bring it back now! And I never even watched it when it originally aired! (I know, I'm a sinner). More Farscape!!

Oh yeah, and on a Garg note, my pals and I were looking at some series to indoctrinate each other on, now that we've finished Farscape and Tenchi OAVs, so I'm gunning for Gargs, especially since the second season is on the way....I'm trying to tie my pitch into World of Warcraft, since they're all hooked on that anyway, sooo...yeah. Got to get my pals away from that damned thing.

Spacebabie: Sorry, no Supernatural. I'm a total Smallville freak tho. When that dude that's now staring on Supernatural was on Smallville (played Jason, and earlier Eric on Days of Our Lives) I soooo wanted him dead. Sorry. But he came between Clark and Lana!

On the whole LJ thing... wow, of all things, this gets me to post.

I too have an LJ, so do a lot more former TGS posters than Spen listed, though aside from Robby, I don't read the rest of aforementioned LJs.

The best way I can think of to describe an LJ is as the "General Discussion" forum taken to the extreme. You can post about anything you want, ramble about anything you want, rant, vent, it's all yours.

And you can control who can and can't read your journal or individual posts, link to your friends as a way of keeping up with them, post responses to their journals, they can post responses to yours.

I've had mine since 2002 and I really enjoy it. I got to know a lot of people better through LJ than I otherwise would have.

Spacebabie : "Then there those who don’t have an LJ or don’t want one." Translation: Me.
"Cool. We may get Zombies." I hope not. We've had enough problems with undead in the past few weeks.

Tribun : "but what is that with this thing with a LiveJournal?" Um, I don't really know the spicifecs(sp?), but a Live Journal is a sort of online diary, in which you write down rants about your personal life, links to sites you find interesting (or in some cases, disturbing), political commentary, or whatever you feel like posting. Several CR posters have LJs, including Wilek, Pistoff, Sevarius Jr., Jan, Robby (I think), and several others I'm not aware of. The main downside to LJs is that usually the poster never has time to post in the CR anymore. Another downside is that unlike with a CR, it's impossible to keep up with all of them on a daily basis. I myself never got one, mainly because I can only think of one person who would be interested in my life, and she doesn't even know my Internet handle.
"Eh, is it now allowed to make here advertisement if writing a Fanfic saga?" It's always been allowed, just look through the CR archives. Doug used to talk about his fanfic saga almost every post. And Mandi Ohlin, Coyote the Bando, and Fire Storm, used to include their fanfic charactars in their Blase-isms. The only thing that's not allowed is to post an entire fanfic in the CR.

Harvester : "Could you give me that address for that store on Jefferson Davis Highway again? I'm afraid I haven't made it out there yet, and I lost it when the CR got wiped." 2852 Jefferson Davis Hwy. (I save last week's CR after the room is wiped.)

**L&O spoilers**

I felt the writers should have put a plug at the end of the episode about the importance of a writing a living will.

As far as how I feel on the issue, pull the plug. Don't keep me on artificial life support. And before anybody jumps on me saying I haven't experienced that, I have. Before my mom died, there was discussion about a living will. As far as I'm concerned, nobody should be kept on life support for over a year unless there is a sign on brain functioning. Honestly, I felt the reverend in the story was doing an injustice to the family, a severe injustice. My grandfather had alziehmer's disease for years. I had written him off emotionally because of his state. I'm saying the family should have let go. After 6 years, I'm sorry, it's time to move on and pull the plug on somebody on life support.
**End L&O spoilers**

I also believe that wearing a helmet on a motorcycle shouldn't be mandatory. You should have a choice: either agree to wear a helmet or sign a waiver keeping you or anybody acting on your behalf from collecting money on your behalf if you're involved in a motorcycle accident and sustained a head injury from not wearing a helmet. Ditto with seat belts. See I believe you have the right to make stupid decisions, as long as you sign a waiver keeping anybody else from paying for those stupid decisions you make.

And forgive the double post, but I just wanted to say to Spacebabie that there ain't nothing wrong with Zombies. "Odyssey and Oracle" is one of the top ten greatest albums ever (least I think it is). Unless you meant the other kind of zombies, in which case, there might still be a few lurking in the shadows of the CR from my failed attempt to play God a few weeks ago. I know the Balrog is still alive, unless someone else has killed it.

I was just watching "Star Trek VI" on HBO. I've recently started scouring the movies to find other actors connected with Gargoyles (from the movies as opposed to the various Trek series). So far, I've got Paul Winfield from Star Trek II, and until recently, I only had one actor from VI, and that was David Warner. But I just realized that William Morgan Shepherd is also in Star Trek VI as a Klingon (the warden on the penal asteroid where Kirk and McCoy are imprisoned).

Tribun- No, "Mecord's Cat" is Mecord's wife, Cat. Mooncat, when she posts here, usually does so under the name "MooncatX" and using a pic of Sekhmet- the woman with the lion head wearing a dred dress.

Spacebabie>>>Sorry if I appear a little unknowing:

but what is that with this thing with a LiveJournal? Sure I heared bits what such a thing is, but never actually bothered to deepen my knowledge on it. Also, what does a LiveJoural have to do with our particular case?

Eh, is it now allowed to make here advertisement if writing a Fanfic saga? To promote when a new chapter is out? (I'm asking because I would then use it too...)

Okay I know with the whole Live journal thing that not many of us post much here.
Then there those who don’t have an LJ or don’t want one. I’m going to post more about life, fandom and etcetera here at least once a week.

First a plug
New in the Archive: Goliath's dreams have been grating on his mind, causing him to lash out at his clan. Puck suggests that he take a little trip to learn more about the Dragon.

Takes place a few months after The Storm

Second: Does anyone else watch Supernatural? I know Mooncat does but she doesn’t post much here. Sometimes I think I need to go and get a few lassos, go to the Xmen sites and bring her, Princess Alexandra, Silverbolt, Calibos, and Summer Jackal back to the Gargs Fandom.

Spoilers for Supernatural
__________________________________________________

Interesting take on the Bloody Mary Story. In this version Bloody Mary does not always
Attack those who invokes their name, but rather those who were in the same building as the 3 time mention who felt guilty about a death they may or may not have caused.

Shades of The Ring Through out the episode and I hope Sam will eventually stop blaming himself for Jessica’s death.

Gside<<<Let's see if I can't get back in the groove.>>> You and me both.

Lynati <<<The Last Unicorn, definately. The animated version of The Hobbit. The Secret of NIMH, and the Black Cauldron. "The Flight of Dragons" stands out in my mind, too, but I can't recall just how good the animation was.>>> I believe I have seen the others except for the Flight of Dragons. I remember the animated Hobbit being my first taste of MiddleEarth.

<<<Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Pete's Dragon, the most well-known two (to me) combining Live Actors interacting with Animated Characters.>>>Especially considering the time period Pete’s Dragon was made.

Luminous Aphrodite<<<Someone else likes Serenity.>>> Loved the movie and the TV series…heck I believe I even posted spoilers for it in this CR back when Firefly was on Fox.

Todd<<< After rereading the recent posts about the alternate names of various mythological figures, I suddenly found myself imagining a gargoyle commenting, "And humans wonder why we didn't bother with names.">>> A gargoyle from the Dark Ages era probably.

Okay considered this as a plug for Kimberly Towle. A recent fic of hers has Hudson and the New Orleans Clan‘s record keeper( This was set in November 1996) When Hudson made a reference to a blue rookery brother he was asked: “Which blue rookery brother” after being asked “Which green elder” he understood why the modern day clans used names.

DPH<<<What animal is roughly the size of a raccoon, walks on all fours during daylight, and is tan-brown? Tail looks similiar to a raccoon's tail.>>>Might be what attacked our rental car when we were driving back from the Gathering.

Spike<<<Sounds a bit like a coatimundi but that's a south Texas/New Mexico animal.>>>That might have been what attacked our rental car.

Harvester<<<bumped into Central America and a race he deemed "primitive" and therefore easy to exploit.>>> Don’t forget Cuba and the other isles that is in the Caribbean.<<<Americans should start celebrating Leif Ericsson Day instead>>>Or Amerigo Vespuci day since he was the one who said: “Hey they found a new land and didn’t realize it” Although I wonder how Goliath’s clan would feel about a day honoring a Viking.

Actually all over the net, there is at the moment reduced activity from America. I think this is because in this time of the year, many seem to be really busy with RL, therefore don't have the time for the net. I experience that on several other sites as well.

Harvester of Eyes: Aww, thanks anyways; I'm in San Antonio. And lain wouldn't give me any internet turkey from the lovely RL one she spent the evening basting...said I'd have to come to Cannibaladia (or however you spell Canada) and visit her for it. *sigh* Texas is so far away from everywhere else. It's like living on Neptune, only really hot. Except that it got cold here two days ago; it's almost like being back home. (Yeah, I've been out here for a year and Kansas City for four prior to this, but Maryland is still home...)

Actually, I just caught my mistake. I'm not sure where Lynati is. I guess I just subconsciously grouped her with Gunjack and Lain since they're working together on something. But I'll still wish Lynati and all the other Yanks a "Happy Italian Imperialist Day."

Gunjack, Lain, and Lynati: Happy Thanksgiving! Don't forget to crank up Rush. "A Farewell to Kings" is always an ideal companion for a turkey nap. Least for me, anyway.

I also agree with my friend that here in the States, we should stop honoring a man who came west in the hope of reaching India so he could fill his ships with gold, and instead bumped into Central America and a race he deemed "primitive" and therefore easy to exploit. Last night we both agreed that Americans should start celebrating Leif Ericsson Day instead.

At least the restaurant did good business today, as it usually does on a federal holiday, and people were nicer than they were on Labor Day. I think I'm actually doing better than I was since they raised our commission due to gas prices. Funny thing is, I didn't even know it was Columbus Day, because the university I went to didn't observe it, and since I haven't gotten the day off on this day since high school, I'm afraid it's just lost all meaning.

spen - <it definatly sounds like a coatimundi.> There's a problem with that theory. I don't live in the right area for that animal to exist. That animal lives in Texas, not Arkansas. Furthermore, it's a tan-brown animal, and the only tan-brown coatimundi exist in South America.

I just need to pick up a digital camera, and I'll solve this problem of identifying this animal by getting a picture next time I see it.
