HoE> Well, the room is supposed to wipe automatically now, like the S8 room does. Dunno why it didn't this week.

Anyway, I'll do it manually sometime today, after I check on why it's not wiping on it's own.

Aaron: I think it would be better to not give any warnings about room wiping.

Wow, why hasn't the room wiped? I guess I'll do that in a bit. But first...

Hey, Carolynn Marie, cool. I love your fics. Any chance we'll find out what's going on with Brooklyn and the walking dead in New Orleans any time soon?

Rodlox> <<maybe Kansas et al should try this>>: I rather like the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Have you been touched by his noodly appendage?

Gunjack> <<Aren't you?>>: I wouldn't mind some extra credit card numbers.
<<Stress induces a performance advantage?>>: Nah, going through the trouble of getting the high techhead to show him what's not working, and then it works fine.
<<The bleach ones have been good, but I'm sure yopu've already got those>>: I want to know why Hazel Fernandez hasn't done anything over here, Rie Fu is a linguistic genius, and who doesn't like happypeople?
<<Or are you going for the more poppy stuff?>>: Poppy, Jazzy, Funky. I've got Soul'd Out from Yakitate, Suite Shoujo from One Piece (and I've been thinking of picking up the next end as well), I prefer Orange Range's Naruto end to their Bleach work, and the bit of horn work got me to get Sato Hirumi's Guri Guri.
<<Does Doki have local DLing?>>: Nope, but there are links to AMV.org, which does.

Damien> <<Its not dead its sleeping>>: Pining for the fjords.

Na zdrorov'ya.

SPEN: Haha, wow, I don't even remember the last time I was here. Surprises me to see that other people do! Thanks for the warm returns.

I was thinking recently how much has changed. I still have all of the VHS tapes in my closet from 1997, when I was a wee freshman in high school and would dutifully get up at 6 every morning to tape Gargoyles before heading off to school. I never ever dreamed they'd finally put out the seasons on tape or dvd. I don't even know what to do with all of these tapes now.

I found something quite by accident: it's a website dedicated to <A HREF="http://www.stonecarver.com/gargoyles/" Target="content">photos of gargoyles from around the world</A>. I took pictures of the front facade of Notre Dame de Paris when I was living in that city, but I never got the gargoyles on top and I never thought to.

We never got as far with ideas for the main Bonfire Night storyline, but several obvious options were out there for the main story. What was interesting to me as a political buff was to do a big story inside Westminster -- Nigel investigating Camelot House, OFSTED (the school regulators) wanting to get a grip on whatever radical curriculum Arthur might be teaching. And it would likely have been the first encounter between Nigel and Mary after "Carbonek".

ED - Ah, yes, thanks for reminding me about those plans. I still have fond memories of that plan about pitting the Green Knight and the Headless Horseman against each other - now that would have been a real crossover event! (It would obviously have been the Halloween story; I can't remember now what we'd been planning for a Bonfire Night/Guy Fawkes Day story.)

Carolynn Marie : Welcome Back! Ye gods, you havn't been around here since december of '01.

Todd : Thanks for telling us about that proposed ep, I'm currently working on a fanfic series that will include some eps that are of the same time period as Pendragon season five would have been, so I'll keep that one in mind, if it's okay with you and Ed.

Todd: I thought of that, as well. I think it would have been a great, emotional episode for Griff. I came across my notebook with Season Five plans recently and it made me feel quite nostalgic. We also discussed that it would come at the end of a sequence of 'theme' episodes for the weeks of Hallowe'en, Bonfire Night and Remembrance Day, which would have included the Bercilak v Headless Horseman story.

TODD: Thank you, sir! Your help is most appreciated.

On a strange, unrelated note, I found an old old email I'd saved on my hard drive, dating back to 1997, when I was still on TGS and you'd given me a quick baptism by fire on English coinage. *Meeeeemories ...*

CAROLYNN MARIE - One of the best non-fiction authors on the matter of King Arthur (relating to the issue of "Was he based on a real historical figure or not?") is Geoffrey Ashe, who has written a number of fine and enjoyable books on the topic. Three that I can particularly name are "The Quest for Arthur's Britain", "The Discovery of King Arthur", and "Kings and Queens of Early Britain". (The last one covers British history from prehistory down to Alfred the Great.) I've also recently (a few months ago) read another good book by him (one of his first, if not the first) entitled "King Arthur's Avalon", which studies the history of Glastonbury, including Arthur's involvement with it.

Wow. You vanish for a couple years, and you miss out on a lot, apparently. Just a quick scan of Todd Jensen's post was enough to bring back memories ... is the TGS comment room dead? My goodness!

I actually have a question for the floor: can anyone recommend to me any good reading regarding the following topics? Ancient Britain, particularly on Vikings and the various Celtic tribes. Arthurian lore (studies of it, not bits like Sir Tomas Malory). There are so many books out on these topics, and many of them quite frankly are a waste of time. I need something informative and good, and I trust the people here on that.

Actually, I'm looking more in Todd's direction than anyone else's, but I'm quite curious to see what anyone else has, if they do :)

Back when Ed Reynolds and I were making preliminary plans for Season Five of "Pendragon" (before we discovered that there wasn't going to be one), we thought of doing a Griff-focused story set on Remembrance Day (the British name for Veterans' Day) and involving his service during the Battle of Britain, maybe even involving an appearance from Clive, one of the RAF pilots in "M.I.A." (The main RAF pilot in that episode, Douglas Bader, passed on in the 1980's, and so wouldn't have been a present-day character for that story, alas.)

Hey, Lain: If you and Gunjack need me for any of that Beta stuff in the future, I might be able to help now that my work schedule has become a bit more predictable.

And now for a bit of Polling Center-related amusement: I called one number the other day and got a message from a computer that said "this number does not accept calls from telemarketers. If you are a telemarketer, please remove this number from your calling list. If you are not a telemarketer, please stay on the line." Well, I stayed on the line because we're not telemarketers. But it reminded me of this episode of "The Critic" (I don't know if anyone remembers that animated show). There's a scene in an episode where one of the characters is buying a handgun from a vending machine. After he inserts his money, a light underneath the slot lights up and they're greeted with the message ARE YOU A CRIMINAL? They have the option of pressing YES or NO. Anyway, my point is, those people I called need to get something that doesn't go by the honor system. I would say that for most of our race, humans and honor are like two positively charged ions.

Intelligent Design/Evolution:

I really don't see why people get so worked up over this issue. I've always seen evolution as tool that God chose to use during the ongoing process of creation, not as a conflicting theory on the origin of life. Therefore, it should be sufficient to teach evolution by itself, as anyone raised in a religious home should be able to recognize the Hand of God at work behind the process. Those who were raised in secular homes would then be free to believe that life just popped up at random and accidently developed into what it is today.

Not that I'm a strict church/state separatist, mind you. I just think that science classes should focus on science. God is so far beyond the scientific world that there's really no point in trying to explain his role in creation during a class devoted to the study of the natural world.

As for all this "intelligent falling* crap, that's just misguided people pulling things out of their a$$.

Well, time to go do my civic duty. I haven't had time to do much reading on either candidate, but I do know this: we've gotten three phone calls from people soliciting for Kilgore in as many days, and zero from Kaine's supporters. So I'm voting for Kaine out of principle: I don't know if his people have solicited anyone else by phone, but we've gotten zero phone calls from him over the last week, while Kilgore's supporters keep calling us. So Kilgore makes my own job even more unbearable. I had one guy last week hang up on me because he was sure we were calling with some political agenda. Not to mention the fact that fifty percent of the country is on the Do-Not Call List (those people are amusing; they ask us why we're calling, and then they don't even wait for the answer. One of these days I'm going to tell one of those people what they want to hear: that I'm a pro-Bush sexual predator who wants their credit card number. But that's a subject for another post).

Anyway, I've gotta go now, so I have time to make it to the polls before work. Although, it is my last day at Pizza Hut, so there's not really hell to pay if I'm late.
