LOL! Poor Fang, he may be loud and obnoxious, but he doesn't deserve to be assosiated with that guy

I could say the same about Talon in the station 8 room.

Yes, that story dated back to when we had the (misguided) notion of making "Pendragon" mostly a retelling of the original legends about King Arthur and his knights rather than about Arthur and Griff's modern-day adventures. Though "The Sad One" didn't have any unusual features about it; it was just a straightforward retelling of the story of Tristram and Iseult (the spelling that I customarily use for the characters) without any noteworthy alterations.

Tristram got a brief cameo in "The Last Enchantment Part Two" as well.

Well, I was waiting for today to start this topic, because I wanted it to correspond with the theatrical release of Tristan and Isolde. I recalled in the first season of Pendragon there was an outline called "The Sad One" that highlighted that very romance. I think it was dropped from a combination of duplication Tristan and Isolde are a lot like Lancelot and Guinevere and lack of interest from any of the writers. This was one of the flashback episodes.

I'm sure Todd remembers it well. He can give you more of the skivvy on that forgotten episode.

Man, the one thing I love about spammers is they help me meet my quota. Anyway, I too have a link to offer. I can't believe I didn't come upon this before now. It's easy to come up with broad reasons of why the Star Wars prequels aren't very good, but this guy went through them scene by scene and came up with quite an impressive list. I mean, I was entertained by Episode III, but if one looks at it really objectively, it is still horrendous filmmaking. Plus, he gets even more cool points for tearing into the revisions that George Lucas made on the DVD release for the Original Trilogy. Be well, and hate George Lucas! ( ;

*goes off to return Macbeth's lightning gun so he can borrow something messier for the Spammer's eventual demise*

Here is something amusing. With all the religious wackos about, this one is both a bit scary and rather amusing. Cick on my name to hear about that guy with the John 3:16 signs at sporting events.

I've been somewhat lax in posting lately. But I haven't had much time to access a computer as of late. After Christmas, the family went up to Delaware. And this year, I was able to stay there for New Year's Eve (nice thing about where I'm working, the center is closed December 24-26, and December 31-January 2). Then a few days after we got back into Fredericksburg, my older brother flew out from the West Coast (he was on leave from Italy, but he had spent Christmas with his wife and her family out in Oregon, so we didn't see him until after New Year's). So needless to say, all the excitement has left me with very little time to myself, and that time is largely devoted to reading the Silmarillion or hunting for a new job.

Hope everyone had a good holiday. I finally found the time to sit and watch Fritz Lang's "Metropolis," something I'd been meaning to watch for some time. Visually, it looked very advanced for 1926. And for something completely silent, it manages to hold your attention for the entire 90 minutes of it.

WARNING: "KING KONG" SPOILERS.
Saw this movie with my uncle and cousins when I was in Delaware. Wow. About the only question I have is just what the hell Peter Jackson could do next that might possibly top this. I think it's an embarrassment to George Lucas (the man who brought about most of the computer technology we see in films today) that Jackson manages to actually make the CGI components work for his film, and not let them bog down the storytelling. Case in point, a lot of the most compelling scenes were the ones that involved interaction between Naomi Watts and the gorilla. The scene between the two of them on the frozen lake didn't even make me yawn, despite the fact that at that point, the film had been going on for almost three hours. I was actually quite captivated by it. Likewise, the scene where Kong takes on four T-Rexes with mostly one hand didn't leave me shaking my head. For a largely computer-generated action sequence, it actually grabbed me.

And while I did feel that the constant encounters with giant animals on Skull Island started to get a little redundant, it didn't seem out of place. It was clearly an island that was like a window into the past, and everything back in prehistoric times was larger. But I still thought Adrien Brody's encounter with the giant bats was a little much. At this point, I was thinking, "okay, we get it. Everything here's large." I'm not sure just how much of what happened on the island was taken from Cooper's original film, since I've never seen it start-to-end (but I know enough about it to appreciate the reference to it that Jackson slipped in at the beginning). I know that Peter Jackson put the scene with the giant bugs back in (left out of the 1977 remake, but honestly, those people weren't even trying; I mean, Jesus Christ, the monkey in that one not only undresses Jessica Lange, but they also found an excuse to get her wet), and I like how he made it almost a representation of a descent into hell, reinforced by the way that this is really the scene where Jack Black's character starts to lose it.

Speaking of Jack Black, I at first questioned just what he was doing in the Carl Denham role. I mean, he's a good comic actor, and an okay singer (for what he sings, which is meant to be satirical). But I went in giving him the benefit of the doubt, and I have to say that in the moments when he wasn't acting like Jack Black, he was quite good. There was a moment when he was arguing with the film execs at the beginning that I thought "okay, where's Kyle Gass?" But when he gave that little speech to the crew of the steamer right after he had knocked Kong out, I figured out why Jackson had chosen him. Plus, Jackson gets extra brownie points for ending the film with the same line Denham used in the original.

All in all, this film had some trouble areas (at times, it was awfully loud, louder than the Nazgul's dragons in LOTR), but was still quite an experience. I think Peter Jackson is a filmmaker who is doing what filmmakers like George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg were doing in the 1970s, which is making people look forward to going to the movies again. The ironic thing being, the two filmmakers I just mentioned have lost their way today. Maybe it's time for the torch to be passed yet again.

END SPOILERS

I read through the previous weeks, even though I never found time to post, and I know that I owe quite a few reviews at this point. Hopefully next week, when I'm back from my Great Aunt's memorial service, I can find some time to get cracking on those. I might have to skim through "The Godslayer" again. I read that one about a month ago.

Happy New Year, everyone.

Eight!!!

Bah Humbug and a Happy New Year. Hopefully this new year will not leave me a disaster refugee, although it will probably make me a combat veteran :) But considering my comments in the past, I say bring it on!! :) Plus the extra $800.00 a month will be nice.

I ordered Gargoyles II i and was watching Awakening yesterday. Now I shoudl set some time up to reading fanfic.

Hmm..New Year's resolutions so far:

1. Get my driver's license
2. Read at least one book a month (or more, but I've been slacking)
3. Read at least one fanfic a month, as I have fallen behind and I should read some more.
4. Don't get killed when I go to the desert.
5. Stay a bachelor through 2006 (this will be renweable every year) :)

Any others?
