That's the main reason I'm holding off on any further comments concerning TGS stories. I'm waiting for the room to clear.

Everyone's probably waiting for the room to clear. (Just why it hasn't cleared yet, I don't know; presumably the person whose job it is hasn't been accessing the Internet lately.)

hmm. Thanks to the one person who wished me a happy birthday. I don't want to think about how old I really am; I wanted to be much further along in life than I am right now. Mentally, I view myself slightly less than 10 years younger than I really am. Yet, that causes me a problem; I'm unable to truely come to grips with my actual age without feeling sad.

Hey, folks! Some Gathering-related stuff and reminders:
The deadlines for submissions to the GRIMORUM ARCANORUM ANTHOLOGY are fast approaching! We are looking for stories and art on the theme of the Grimorum, with the winning entries being included in a trade paperback novel available at the Gathering. Deadline for stories is March 31, for art is April 15th.
Full guidelines here: http://www.gatheringofthegargoyles.com/g2006/anthology.html
I'm also looking for input on what kind of fan-run panels and workshops you'd like to see. Anything having to do with the fan side of things, from writing and art to costuming and cosplaying, filking, con survival, gaming ... anything! Tell me what you want, and let me know if you'd be interested in volunteering to be on such a panel or host such a workshop. This is YOUR con, so we need YOUR help and input to make it great!
I'd like to start hammering out a rough schedule soon, so please send me your ideas pronto!
E-mail submissions, panel ideas, volunteer offers or any other questions to me at: christine@sabledrake.com

HARVESTER - I'm glad that you enjoyed "The Dragon's Treasure". I found it an entertaining story to write, including Darien Montrose getting humiliated and some fun characterization for Quetzalcoatl.
It was partly designed (in a general way) as a good-natured take-off on "The Hobbit" with Darien in the role of Thorin and Quince/Quetzalcoatl in the combined role of Gandalf and Smaug; that led to the map at the beginning and Darien having twelve henchmen. (And maybe also Merlin's line about stealing a cup, though I can't remember now if that was inspired by "The Hobbit", by "Beowulf", or by both.)
I couldn't resist incorporating the visit to Roncesvalles, once we set the story in the Pyrenees. It doesn't really add much to the main story (except maybe on the philosophical side), but I simply could not resist the opportunity to have Arthur pay tribute to one of the best-known incidents in non-Arthurian chivalric literature, namely, Roland's last stand.
And, yes, I do think of Darien as almost a Western version of Taro.

Okay, here we go, as promised:
Perhaps one of the things I liked the most about "The Dragon's Treasure" was the way that Quetzalcoatl was firmly established as a character in such a short time. What I mean was, I felt that we really got to know him. I especially liked his little comment to Mary about how every race was made up of individuals, and the note that he left Arthur with, about his motivations for seeking the Grail. It succeeded once again to alluding to what the Grail is, but in a secular manner. It's never described as being the cup consecrated by Christ, but the manner in which Quetzalcoatl describes the purpose of Arthur's quest does that nicely (if one chooses to interpret it in such a fashion). I also liked the fact that at the end, Quetzalcoatl hasn't made any clear resolutions, but instead is just pondering that perhaps he should get out more. For some reason, it reminded me of the end of the Gargoyles episode "The New Olympians," which leaves us with the inhabitants of New Olympus on the fence. Taurus says to Boreas that soon they might have to reveal themselves to the world, but there's no clear decision. I know they seem like two completely different scales of things, but for some reason, I was still reminded of it.
Once again, I liked the incorporation of actual history into the ficverse (once again utilizing the idea that all things are true). I mean, I like reading about the histories of characters. But one of the things I have noticed about the later seasons of "Pendragon" (as opposed to the first) is that the history aspect is incorporated in such a way so that it won't be boring to someone who doesn't take a particular interest in history.
And I don't know why, but I just love watching Darien Montrose get abused. What happened to him here was probably the best thing that's happened to him since "Lethe" (of course, I'll have to check back through the archives. It might be the only thing that's happened to him since then). Here, the line that he leaves us with is particularly amusing. After what happened to him here, I might start thinking of him as a Western version of Taro (in the sense that his plan to get rich resulted in him being ridiculed). I have a few more things to say later, but for now, I've got to go to work.

Spen: That will be fine; no problem. Send the file to me anyway. (My email address is displayed on the page linked from my name.) I'll edit the code to make it work like the other archived CR files on the TGS website. I'd rather have the data for that week, even if it needs to be modified to work online, than no data at all. THANK YOU!!!

HARVESTER - That's a good comment on the change in Brooklyn's status between the "Vinnie's motorcycle on fire" scene and the "warehouse on fire" scene; I certainly hadn't noticed it. Thanks for pointing it out.
I had noticed Lexington's echo of "The Mirror" at the end, but forgot to include it when I was writing up the commentary.

Todd : Thanks for the info.
Lady Mystic : I'm afraid I have some bad news. The week of 1/2/06-1/9/06 that I said I have a copy of was saved as a web page, complete. I seem to remember you saying that you can't take files of that kind. Any ideas on how to work around this problem?

Todd: I'll have more to say either tomorrow or Wednesday. For now, I just wanted to say that I was reading over your reviews of the "Hunter's Moon" 3-Parter, and found the list of parallels between those episodes and earlier things and events in the season to be quite interesting. There were a few that I already knew about, such as Jason's remark in Part 2 when he finds the clawmarks. But most of them were new to me. I felt that a few of them really helped to mark the passage of time, and some of the changes we'd seen in characters. In Part 1, for example, when the warehouse catches fire towards the end, and Brooklyn asks who's going to tell Goliath, both Broadway and Lexington point to him, and you can't blame them. In the time since "Awakening," Brooklyn had become second-in-command, so it was basically his responsibility.
But there was one line at the very end of Part 3 that really stood out at me, because it's almost an exact copy of something Lexington said in "The Mirror," shortly after the gargoyles had discovered that everyone in Manhattan had been transformed. The original line was "It's too weird. Kinda fun, but weird." I think they changed a few words of that in the "Hunter's Moon" episode, but for the most part, it was the same (even Thom's voice-tone sounded similar).

SPEN - Hesperia and Ausonia are the Atlantean-era names for Spain and Italy respectively. As for Atlas, I'm afraid that we never worked out exactly when his reign was.

***WARNING! THIS POST CONTAINS POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR "THE DOWNFALL", AN EPISODE OF TIMEDANCER SEASON TWO I DON'T THINK HARVESTER HAS READ YET***
Todd : I was re-reading The Downfall earlier, and was wondering something: in the story there was a map of Atlantis and it's colonies. Most of the places had names I recognized, but a couple I didn't. Where exactly are Hesperia and Ausonia located? Also, do you have any idea when approxametly Atlas became king of Atlantis?
