HARVESTER - Yes, I've got to agree with you there. It was neat the way that it worked out.

Todd: There was one historical reference that I really liked, and that was Alain's surprise that Arthur wasn't planning on reclaiming his throne in England. Because if there was a king it needed reclaiming from, Edward II would have been a good contender.

A few addenda on "Fata Morgana".
When I first came up with the idea, I very briefly thought of having Arthur and Mary "transported" via Morgana's spell to Camelot, though then discarded it as too close to "Iris, Lily, and Rose". Though it would have been fun, in some ways: I'd like to have seen Guinevere's response to her husband's new squire - and whether she'd have been ready to accept Mary as a stepdaughter-of-sorts.
Morgana's mention of a gargoyle having saved the life of her son Owain is a reference to a legend about Owain having befriended a lion which then fought by his side in many battles (you can get the details in the Mabinogion's account of Owain, or in Chretien de Troyes' "Yvain, the Knight of the Lion" - Yvain being Chretien's version of Owain). My idea was that the lion was really a lion-like gargoyle of the same variety as Leo (maybe even one of the ancestors of the London clan). That would have made for a fun flashback story.
And the mentions in there of the history of the Knights Templar, the belief in medieval times that the English had tails, Richard the Lion-hearted giving a sword believed to be Excalibur to the King of Sicily, and Marie de France's story about a werewolf knight are all based on historical fact.

HARVESTER - Thanks for the review. I'm glad that you liked "Fata Morgana". It's one that I still have a soft spot for, and which I definitely enjoyed writing.
One thing that I thought was particularly fun about it was having Mary experience a little bit of medieval life alongside Arthur (even wearing a squire's "uniform"), and growing closer to him. Plus I gave her a proper confrontation with Corbie, something that I thought that "Dark Passions" had failed to supply. (The idea that I had was that Mordred and Corbie were present as appropriate "translated nemeses" for Arthur and Mary; I've even thought cheerfully that if Elisa had been present in the microcosm with them, Mordred's forces would have been aided by a local Italian or Sicilian bandit leader or robber-baron named Antonio Dracone whose second-in-command would have been a Moor wearing a very early pair of spectacles!)
Another bit of fun that I couldn't resist was Griff fighting the skeleton of Polyphemus the Cyclops. That was inspired by the oldest extant legends about griffons, which portrayed them as at war with a race of one-eyed people called Arimaspians.
And one thing that occurs to me about the big confrontation; there's something almost reminiscent of Goliath versus Thailog in Arthur's interaction with Mordred, including Mordred's bitterness over Arthur's attempt to drown him at birth being a parallel to Thailog's bitterness over Goliath initially calling him an abomination. Mary and Corrinne even play the parts of Angela and Delilah (except that, unlike the latter in "The Reckoning", their battle is on stage). I don't think that I had that consciously in mind, but it could have influenced me sub-consciously.

I just had an interesting encounter. I'm at a traffic light when this guy in a white van in the lane to the right of me starts shouting that he's got a system of surround speakers that he'll sell to me for practically nothing because his manager's just gonna throw them out. He keeps ignoring me when I tell him I'll pass, so finally I tell him I'll meet him in the Best Buy parking lot after the light changes, so I can look over what he's got. I hope he's not still waiting there for me. But on the plus side, it is almost 60 degrees out and the sun is shining, so it's not like he'll be miserable while he waits.
Todd: Ask and ye shall receieve.
I'd have to say that "Fata Morgana" did an exceptional job of maintaining a difficult balance. Even after we know what's happened to Arthur and Mary, we're still finding ourselves gripped by the struggle they're in. And it's not just because the danger that they're in is real. For some reason, their dialogue also became more interesting once we found out that they hadn't gone back in time (because they still thought they might have).
Wonderful character moments close to the end between Arthur and Mordred (I like how Mordred continues to somehow torment Arthur even after he's dead. Guess those weren't just pretty words at Camlann). As well as a revelation that might have a significant impact on the rest of the series. I don't know whether I should be kicking myself in the head, but I never really noticed that the relationship between Arthur and Mary might be developing that deep of a bond. And speaking of Mary, I remember you had said recently that part of her character development is that she really starts to take her task as squire very seriously. I especially liked seeing her in action here (and a nice little bit of humor from Merlin when he's watching her fight Corinne).
I didn't mind that I was able to predict the ending. Towards the beginning of the story, when Morgana doesn't notice Mary going into the mist, I just knew that that would come around to bite her. Morgana's reaction also struck a good balance. Much as she loves Mary, she just can't put those feelings over her revenge. Hopefully, we'll see another confrontation between the two of them.
For me, the weakest moment in the story would have to be the solution that Merlin came up with for freeing Arthur and Mary. Although there was a nice little bit of humor to it, as well. It reminded me of a scene from one of the "Naked Gun" movies, where Leslie Neilson is trying to disarm a bomb, can't seem to do it, gives up, and then in fleeing the scene trips over its cord and unplugs it from the wall (thus finally disarming it). Likewise, Merlin spends most of the story searching the book for a solution and finds that the simplest answer was staring him in the face the whole time.
Overall, I'd say that this was definitely a candidate for my Top 5 List (which I'm going to compile when I'm done reading the series).

HoE> Wish I knew :) I've only taken the site and gave it a (desperately needed) face-lifting, but all the images were actually here. From what I can see, I'd daresay the pictures are mostly (if not all) taken from screen-caps.... and guessing from the age of some of them, they're from the first, maybe second airing.
My suggestion: Use them, reference the GFW as main source and declare 'em as screen caps.... it's most likely the truth (NONE of them came from the DVD, that much I CAN tell)
As for the promised things: I'm waiting as fast as I can :)

Harvester : Best bet would be Live Journal. Almost everyone in the fandom has one, including many people who used to be regular posters but aren't anymore. (ie: Wilek, Jessie Feff, Mandolin, Siryn, etc.) Since I belive you said that you have a Live Journal account, you might try searching by interest for people who are interested in Gargoyles.

Quick question for Guandalug: in light of recent events, I've decided to start a group on Facebook to promote awareness of Gargoyles. I was wondering where the pictures on the fansite came from (actual pictures and graphics from the show). I would like to use some sort of picture just to provide people with a visual aid to better illustrate what Gargoyles is, but don't know if there's any legal red tape I'd need to find a way through.
And you'll get something I owe you by next Friday. I swear.

GXB - honestly, the low sales aren't suprising to me for a different reason: we didn't seem to put as much effort into getting the word out as we did for the 1st dvd release.

This is going out on a limb, but I like to sweep the corners: does anyone know any way of contacting people who used to be regular posters, but have been scarce for a year or more? Other than that, I'm racking my brain (but I'm gonna start with a few announcements on Myspace).

Do you want Gargoyles Season 2 Part 2 to Come Out?
Greg Weisman writes:
Tough Love
I've been informed that the Season Two Volume One Gargoyles DVD has not sold as many units as the Season One Gargoyles DVD did. That's not particularly surprising, since it has a higher price point. But let's be honest, the lower sales are putting the release of Season Two Volume Two at risk.
To be clear, I'm not asking anyone to spend money they don't have and/or need for things like food, shelter, education, etc. But if you've just been lazy and have been putting off buying the darn thing... well, pal, help us all out by ponying up sooner than later.
And ALL OF YOU -- PLEASE DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO SPREAD THE WORD!!!!
It is NOT a given that Season Two Volume Two will come out!

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!
Now that the room's cleared (a day and a half late), I'm hoping that you can share more of your "Pendragon" comments, Harvester. I assume that you've gotten to "Fata Morgana" by now?
