The Banshee

THE BANSHEE: This fay was a member of Oberon's court until shortly after the Gathering. However, even before the Great Expulsion, she had gained a bad reputation as a trouble-maker, and had even ravaged Ireland for a time before Cu Chulainn managed to defeat and expel her. In the 1990's, the Banshee discovered that Cu Chulainn had been reborn as Rory Dugan, and decided to ensure that he would not discover his true heritage and challenge her again. Using her human alias of "Molly", she led the young man astray, urging him to waste his time in petty thefts rather than uncover his true identity. In the meantime, however, she became aware of how close it was to the Gathering, and had no desire to leave Ireland and return to Avalon. When Goliath, Elisa, and Angela arrived in Ireland during the Avalon World Tour, the Banshee believed them to be Oberon's agents come to capture her, and promptly captured them, determined to force a confession of his intentions towards her if she had to destroy them in order to do it. Fortunately, Bronx encountered Rory while trying to rescue his friends, and served as the catalyst in Rory's realization that he was Cu Chulainn reborn. Armed with this knowledge, Rory (with a little help from Bronx) encountered and overthrew the Banshee, rescuing her captives thereby.

Shortly afterwards, the Weird Sisters came to Ireland on Oberon's instructions, captured the Banshee, and hauled her back to Avalon to stand trial for her open defiance of him. After the Banshee got into a brief and inconclusive fight with Odin, Oberon pronounced judgement upon her, placing a metal stopper over her mouth as punishment for her disobedience. The Banshee did not take this punishment well, and now wants vengeance upon him - and upon Oberon's court laughing at her disgrace. This makes her open to Madoc's recruitment drive. In "A Call To Arms," she is sent by Titania to get Rory Dugan to join King Arthur's neo-knights, but she defects to the Unseelie rather than return to Avalon and her punishment.

Voice: Sheena Easton

The Banshee has two major powers. She can emit a song known as a keening, which can do terrible damage to humans and gargoyles - it is said that a keening can actually kill humans (and the wail of the Banshee has long been viewed as a death-omen in Ireland). The other is to take on the form of "Crom-Cruach", the Death Worm, a sort of gigantic insect larva with enormous mandibles.

The Banshee soon befriended Umbriel, but like him was branded a traitor. She fled after Madoc murdered him, hunted by both sides. She made her way to London, and joined up with Rory Dugan once more, and is now an ally to King Arthur and his Neo-Knights.
