Egypt

Sun and the Serpent, parts 1 - 4 - from 6074 BC to 6071 BC

This is Brooklyn's second visit to Egypt from his point of view.   Brooklyn timedances into ancient Egypt.   He was accused of stealing the Aten because he possessed a fragment of it.   Thankfully, Thoth recognized Brooklyn as the timedancer.   Brooklyn met Harthoth, a servant of Thoth.   Brooklyn met Meryt before she was named because she was assigned to guard Brooklyn.   Actually, Uraeus, high priest of Isis, stole the Aten for Isfet.   Ra was the ruler then and gargoyles were called sphinxes.   The next day, Thoth, through use of magic, proved Brooklyn did not steal the Aten.   Brooklyn was permitted to help find the Aten.   Brooklyn learned that the land was ruled by a council composed of 2 members of the fair folk (Lord Osiris and Lady Isis), 2 sphinxes (Shu and Khnemu), and 2 humans (Tem and Khepera).   Above the Council's power lies Ra.   Isfet tried to steal a scroll from Thoth's temple but failed due to interference from Brooklyn and Meryt.   Brooklyn ensured that Isfet didn't get the scroll she was looking for.   Brooklyn met Khensu when Khensu rescued him from Isfet.   Isfet was trying to steal the scroll for Apep.   Brooklyn met Ra when Ra gave Meryt her name in return for defending the House of Life.   Ra returned Brooklyn's stuff to Brooklyn.   The Phoenix Gate reacted to a fragment of the Aten.   Brooklyn learned that the nobles and Ra tithe to each god to provide food.   Brooklyn convinced Harthoth to let Geb help them find the Aten.   Harthoth sought out Nuit serving Isis and Ammut serving at the Temple of Anubis to help them find the Aten and got their help. Harthoth picked up Ammut, a gargoyle beast.   Meryt joined the group with Nuit, a female gargoyle at the temple of Isis.   Before the group could start the search, they were summoned to the Council.   Ra gave the group leave to find the Aten.   First, the group went to the Marketplace to find the Aten.   Then, they went to Sekhmet, upon the suggestion by Brooklyn of looking up the nearest bad guys.   Sekhmet didn't have it, so the group returned.   Brooklyn and Meryt spotted the Aten being used to bring back Apep.   Brooklyn fought both Isfet and Apep and was knocked unconscious.   When the Egyptian gods showed up, Apep quickly trapped them.   Isfet grabbed the Aten and used it to remove other threats to her and Apep.   Brooklyn knocked out Isfet and was attacked by Apep for doing that.   When Isfet recovered, she started to go after Ra, but Brooklyn stopped her.   Brooklyn threw a scroll to Ra, which was used to defeat Apep.   After Apep was defeated, the Aten was recovered and sent to Isis's house for safeguarding.   Three uneventfull years passed.   Brooklyn had fell in love with Meryt and was having problems with that because of his timedancing.   Brooklyn decided to settle down in Egypt and that made Meryt happy again.   Uraeus poisoned Ra during a council meeting.   Isis stole Ra's power to try to save him from the poisoning.   Ra died shortly afterwards.   After Ra died, Isis became ruler over the council.   Thoth was placed in charge of praying a pyramid to bury Ra in.   Brooklyn had brought his suspicions about Uraeus to Thoth's attention and Thoth brought them to the council, which cost Thoth's seat on the council.   Uraeus freed Isfet so she could help him.   Uraeus stole the Aten.   Isfet went to Thoth's temple to steal a scroll.   Khensu tried to stop her, but was knocked unconsciousness.   Isfet set fire to the scrolls.   When Brooklyn arrived, he rescued Khensu and learned that Harthoth and Khensu.   After sunrise, Brooklyn learned that Harthoth created Khensu to do things that Harthoth couldn't do because he was a gargoyle.   Uraeus created an eclipse so that Isfet and Uraeus could release Apep.   Despite having Ra's power, Isis could not harm Apep.   Isis willingly let Uraeus have her powers so he could defeat Apep.   Uraeus defeated Apep and then attempted to gain control over the council.   Brooklyn tricked Uraeus into heading inside Ra's pyramid to defeat him so that Harthoth could defeat him.   Meryt, Brooklyn, and Isfet fought Uraeus to give Harthoth the time to cast the spells to defeat Uraeus. Unfortunately, when Uraeus was defeated, Meryt was dying.   Harthoth made a deal with Apep to save Meryt's life.   Brooklyn timedanced out of Egypt with a fragment of the Aten.

Sun and the Serpent, part 2 - Between 1290 BC and 1224 BC

Meryt's clan reunites under the reign of Ramses II. However, the clan eventually dies out with the passage of time.

For Old Time's Sake - 1891

This was Brooklyn's 1st visit to Egypt from his point of view.   A man found the Aten and dropped it when he saw Brooklyn.   Brooklyn picked up a fragment and the man left with the rest of the Aten.   That man sold to another man who sold it to Khensu Haravash.   Brooklyn ran into Meryt who helped him out of a predictament and Brooklyn gave Meryt the piece for safekeeping.   Khensu sent Isfet to retrieve that fragment from Brooklyn.   Isfet brought Brooklyn to Khensu for interrogation about the location of the fragment.   When Brooklyn wouldn't tell Khensu the location, Khensu let Isfet have Brooklyn.   Isfet nearly succeeded in killing Brooklyn except Brooklyn had help from Meryt.   Meryt brought Brooklyn to where she had placed the fragment and Khensu arrived there to get the fragment.   Khensu managed to acquire that fragment and hold Brooklyn back.   After listening to Khensu for a while, Brooklyn finally was mad enough to break free of the hold.   In a fight with Khensu, Brooklyn managed to acquire another fragment from the Aten and timedance out.   All this was a ploy to ensure that Brooklyn had a certain fragment from the Aten when he arrived in Egypt the next time.

Sun and the Serpent, parts 1 - 4 - July 23-25, 1952

This is Brooklyn's 3rd visit to Egypt from his point of view.   Brooklyn and Sata timedanced to Egypt and met Khensu Haravash.   Khensu Haravash offered Brooklyn and Sata temporary sanctuary and Brooklyn grudginly agreed.   Khensu, Brooklyn, and Sata ate a meal together and chatted before Khensu talked about business.   Khensu wanted to trade the fragment of the Aten that Brooklyn had for knowledge about Brooklyn's future timedances.   Brooklyn declined.   As a result, Khensu sent Isfet to get Brooklyn's Aten fragment.   Brooklyn and Sata managed to escape from Isfet thanks to Meryt.   Meryt and Sata met each other.   Meryt tells Brooklyn and Sata that Khensu wants the fragment so Khensu can complete the Aten and bring Apep back.   Brooklyn, Sata, and Meryt took a train to Alexandria.   When they reached Alexandria, Brooklyn told Sata that the Aten is like a magical battery and with it and the right spell, almost anything can be done.   Meryt led Brooklyn and Sata to the location of the Aten so they could steal it to prevent Harthoth from using it.   When they reached the location of the Aten, Meryt was captured and we learn that Khensu and Isfet were waiting on them.   Khensu and Isfet captured Brooklyn.   Sata thought Meryt set them up and they had a fight about it until Meryt convinced Sata otherwise.   Khensu used Brooklyn's fragment of the Aten to make the Aten whole again.   Khensu told Brooklyn about the first unseelie war to try to convince Brooklyn that Brooklyn was a slave of the Wierd Sisters.   Khensu left Brooklyn alone with Isfet.   Meryt arranged a meeting to talk with Harthoth to learn Brooklyn's whereabouts.   Isfet and Brooklyn started to fight and Brooklyn was injured severely, but healed by Khensu when Khensu returned.   Khensu and Isfet left afterwards.   Meryt and Sata found Brooklyn and Meryt left.   The next day, Brooklyn and Sata took a train back to Cairo.   On the way to Cairo, Brooklyn told Sata of his adventures in ancient Egypt.   When Brooklyn and Sata caught up with Harthoth and Isfet, they saw that Meryt had been captured.   Brooklyn and Meryt fought Harthoth and Isfet to give Sata time to enact Brooklyn's plan to stop Apep.   Sata used light from a jeep to defeat Apep.   Brooklyn and Sata timedanced away.   Apep was in the world, but lacked substance.

Grief - Between January 22 and July 9, 1996

Goliath, Angela, Bronx, and Elisa arrive in Egypt near a sphinx.   They spot Coyote going inside and head inside.   David Xanatos has hired the Emir to secure immortality for David Xanatos through capturing Anubis.   The pack (minus Dingo) is there to assist the Emir in case things go wrong.   The pack manages to subdue the gargoyles   The Emir manages to hold Anubis hostage and attempts to get his son back.   When Anubis refuses, the Emir tries to become an avatar for Anubis, but Jackal pushes the Emir out of the way to become Anubis's avatar.   Then Jackal destroys a nearby town, destroys Coyote, makes the rest of the Pack younger, and severely ages Goliath, Angela, Bronx, and Elisa.   With help from Goliath and Angela, the Emir manages to become the avatar for Anubis and undoes most of the damage caused by Anubis.   Goliath and company escape before the Emir destroys the building to keep Anubis's power safe.   Presumably, the pack escapes.

April 29-30, 1999

The Unseelie acted Egypt during this time frame, but were driven off by several humans with latent magical talent and a golden female gargoyle. [Note: those humans were probably Apep worshippers.]

Re-emergence, parts 3 - Early June 1999

Supplies were dropped off at Egypt to help with the relief effort after the Unseelie attacked.

Doomed, February 27, 2000

King Arthur, Merlin, Mary Sefton, and Griff head to Egypt to search for the Holy Grail. Some of Sekmet's werecheetahs overhear that and capture the group. Merlin and Mary are brought to Sekmet's chamber, but that does not chear Sekmet up. The werecheetahs bring King Arthur & Griff a book from the Knights Templar so they can use the book to find the Holy Grail. Looking at the book, King Arthur & Griff note they are looking for a pyramid in the sand. Sekmet has a talk with Merlin and laughs when she learns Merlin is going to rely on the Holy Grail to cure him of his poison. Sekmet's werecheetahs walk in to tell Sekmet that they send King Arthur and Griff to fetch the Holy Grail for them and tell her that the warriors will be put through great pain and tests of endurance. So Sekmet magics the were-cheetahs, Mary, Merlin and herself to a vantage point. She makes sure that she's unseen though. Arthur and Griff meanwhile are brushing away the sand to reveal a series of symbols in the ground. They press them in accordance to the diagrams in the book, and they feel the ground quake beneath them. The pyramid rises, and they find themselves clinging onto it as it emerges from the ground. As they note that they can be pleased with their progress so far, the part of the pyramid on which they are standing gives way, and they fall into the dark. They soon engage in a duel with armed skeletons bearing shields with the symbolism of the Templar Knights. They pass into some kind of passage filled with all the standard traps - arrows, snake pits, collapsing floors; skeleton knights leap down on top of them as they try to move from room to room. As Arthur and Griff are in the thick of battle. Sekhmet is laughing her head off and watching the proceedings. She hasn't had this much fun since the war, if not longer. At the end they reach a magical barrier that will disintegrate unworthy characters: Griff calls out something to the effect of, "couldn't you have done this one first?" They pass through. They enter an empty hallway, and encounter a skeleton wearing colours that denote some prestige. He acknowledges the bravery of Arthur and Griff: ordinary mortals would not have come this far. He is the guardian of the treasure of the Templar Knights, and now finally one has evaded the traps and can break the seal and open the treasure. He has been waiting for centuries to see the secret of the Templars before he was released from his guardianship: his enchantment always prevented him from touching it. Arthur opens the box, and it contains not the Grail but a thin leather-bound book. "The complete and absolute knowledge," breathes the skeleton knight in some amazement. They open the book, and it contains - nothing. The pages are blank. They look closely at it, try talking to it, but nothing is written there. The knights believe that Molay must have conned them - this was never the real source of knowledge. Cursing, the skeletons crumble to dust. Arthur and Griff consider that they should probably return to Sekhmet's base, if they can find it. But Sekhmet removes the invisibility spell and appears before them. She says that she doesn't care about some blank old book, but she just loves the pyramid - she thinks she'll keep it as her holiday home. She'll be wanting some new were-cheetahs to get working on it though, it's a shame that Mary's already a wolf part-time. On the matter of the prisoners, Sekhmet supposes that they helped her realise that her days of grand plots and futile schemes are over: allying herself with losers has done nothing for her, and all this petty evil is just so... well, petty. She's become used to being a menial flunkie for some cracked totalitarian, or chasing her younger days which have gone forever that she's forgotten something - she's really a Goddess. From now on, she says, looking after number one is her prime concern. She concludes that in light of this, Arthur might as well have his allies back, and Merlin and Mary are thrown to the ground before them in an off-hand manner. Sekhmet tells the foursome to get the hell out of her temple, and although they aren't quite sure about Sekhmet's propensity for further mischief and malice, they decide that they had better get out while the going is good. The book is a riddle that they will have to decipher later, but it seems that it is a red herring in their search for the Grail, although possibly it is as precious. They decide to make their way to the nearest town, Griff carrying Merlin on his back. In an Egyptian hotel the following night, Merlin lies on the bed weakened and says that the rest should leave him. Sekhmet was right: this quest is futilely putting the people he cares about in danger. Mary was caused great pain at the hands of Sekhmet, and they all would have died if she had not become so disillusioned with the Unseelie Court. What if it had been Surtur or the Morrigan in her place? Mary becomes angry with Merlin, and tells him to get over his ridiculous self-pity and try to think of where the group might turn next. But Merlin is serious: he is the son of the Unseelie lord, and it is clear to him that he can never hope to achieve the Grail. He's doomed. Mary points out that the only people who are saying that are Sekhmet and Morgana - people who are hardly qualified to speak about morality. Mary leaves, angry and upset. Arthur turns to follow her, but pauses at the door. He tells Merlin that he's wrong - they will find the Grail yet. Merlin is a good person, not just the son of a bad faerie. He tells him to spend the day learning to move on from his current depression so that tomorrow they can focus their attention on the Grail once more. Merlin is left alone, and inspects the book that was retrieved. He finally concludes that it must be from around 930BCE, the time of King Solomon - around far longer than the Templars. He feels something in the spine and pulls out a simple ring. He looks at the engraving, and starts to smile: he's found the complete and absolute knowledge. The engraving on the ring is from the Hebrew of three millennia ago but he has read about it: 'Gam zeh ya'avor' which means 'And This Too Shall Pass.'

Nigeria

Mark of the Panther - Between January 22 and July 9, 1996

Goliath, Elisa, Angela, and Bronx arrived in Nigeria.   There, they run across Elisa's mother telling a story about Anansi the spider.   Elisa reveals herself after the story is finished and her mother starts asking where Elisa Maza has been.   Poachers attack, trying to kill a ceremonial panther.   Goliath, Elisa, and Bronx show up to intervene.   Tea, one of the poachers, is stopped by Fara Maku.   Fara Maku collapses and transforms into a panther and Tea goes after him.   The gargoyles capture the rest of the poachers and go after Tea.   Goliath grabs Tea and Tea transforms into a panther.   Then, Tea continues after Fara Maku.   The gargoyles and Mazas track Tea with the help of Bronx and find the city of Karadiji. They split up to track Tea with Goliath and Elisa's mother going together and Angela and Elisa going together.   Goliath, Elisa, Angela, and Elisa catch up with Tea and Fara Maku.   Goliath asks Tea why she is hunting Fara.   Tea responds that Fara marked her so that every time she gets angry she turns into a panther.   Fara responds it was to keep Tea in the village because he loved her.   Elisa's mother responds that isn't love; it's selfishness.   Elisa asked who makred Fara.   Anansi responds that Fara actively searched for Anansi to keep the old bargain.   Fara wants to renig, but Anansi refuses and wants all of them to hunt for him.   The Mazas, gargoyles, Fara, and Tea start fighting Anansi, but start to lose the battle.   Angela comes up with the idea of shredding the web to reduce Anansi's mobility and the group does so.   Angela hands Goliath a spear, and Goliath plunges it into the belly of the spider, which explodes in light and vanishes.   With Anansi gone, there is no hope of removing the curse.   Tea suggests that Fara and Tea use their curse to protect the jungle as penance. Goliath, Angela, and Bronx turn to stone and Elisa takes the time to tell her mother the truth.

Darkest Hour, parts 1 & 2 - April 29-30, 1999

The Unseelie attacked because of two people's connection to Anansi.   Fara Maku and Tea fought against the Unseelie with help from game wardens and former poachers.   Fara was hurt during the attack.

Re-emergence, parts 3 - Early June 1999

Relief supplies were dropped off in Nigeria and Fara Maku and Tea were leading the rebuilding efforts.
